VPN IP POOLS

Have an 1812 with 4 interfaces. 1-Internet, 2-VPN (attached to 1, no NAT, no split), 3-PUBLIC(NAT to 1), 4-PRIVATE (no NAT). Each with its own IP addressing and all works great with one exception. What headaches will I if I set the VPN to use same addressing as used in PUBLIC interface. VPN users just need occasional access to network equipment in 3-PUBLIC to maintain and monitor it. Nothing more.

This document contains the most common solutions to IPsec VPN problems. These solutions come directly from service requests that the Cisco Technical Support have solved. Many of these solutions can be implemented prior to the in-depth troubleshooting of an IPsec VPN connection. As a result, this document is presented as a checklist of common procedures to try before you begin to troubleshoot a connection and call Cisco Technical Support.

  • VPN IP Pool error

I just recently changed the IP pool for my VPN clients from class B to a class C.
I assinged 192.168.1.1-253 for the range.
I have a VPN client who is wireless and his netgear assigns him 192.168.1.2. He can validate on the VPN but cannot resolve names or IP's. I have other clients who have no issues.
Is it because his IP is the same net?
I also tried changing the IP pool to a different subnet. but then no one can connect.
    what am I missing?

    I am talking about a PIX 506E.
we had an internal IP scheme that was a public address range (130.1.X.X). We changed it over this prior weekend to a private 172.16.X.X address range.
The original IP Pool for the VPN clients was 172.16.0.1-253. We decided to seperate them to avoid any confusion. Since the change no user has had an issue but this one . He has connected before, but with the old VPN IP Pool addresses.
I asked him for an Ip config/all and noticed that his NIc was the same IP as the cisco VPN, and thought that was the issue. I also relized that any other home user with a router/access point will probably have the same problem at some point due to the default settings of those devices. So I decided to change the IP for the pool to 192.168.99.1-253. But this did not allow anyone to connect. I cannot resolve names or IPs until the pool is set to 192.168.1.1-253.
I do not have that command in my PIX. I am not a very PIX savy person. since we rarely touch it except in occasions like this.

  • Can ISE 1.2 Virtual Appliance assign VPN address pool like ACS does?

    Dear friends,
I have observed that Cisco ISE Virtual Appliance (VMware) can act as a RADIUS server in the same manner as ACS does, but I cannot find the way of assigning an IP address to a remote VPN client (only assigning a VLAN).
At this point I don't know if it is strictly necessary to have the IP address assignment for the remote VPN clients done in the external firewall (i. e. Cisco ASA) in this case.
Is there any way of defining an IP address pool in the ISE itself for VPN clients authenticated against that ISE?
If the answer is not, which ones could be the options for that assignment other than the ASA pool assignment? Could it be possible defining the corresponding address pool in an internal DHCP server that could provide the IP address to the VPN client after successful authentication through ISE?
Any help would be really appreciated to clarifying these questions.
    Thank you and best regards.

Please find the link below for the may help you to get the answer related to comparision and even for deployment.

  • VPN - reserving Pool addresses

      Hello there.
I have created a PPTP VPN on a cisco  3745 router, and a pool of addresses for the VPN clients. Now i want to find a way to reserve the addresses in the pool for specific machines,  for example,  if machine A connects to the VPN it should always be given the IP address a.a.a.a and that address should never be assigned to any other machine even if machine A is not connected to the VPN. Please help.
    Thanks.

you can reserve the ip address for a particular user in the ACS. and you will have to authenticate for vpn via ACS. i have done this and it works perfectly.

I did not try to ping 4.2.2.2. I just know I can not ping comcasts dns servers. I have updated the firmware on the router and it did not work. The computer was able to access the internet until about a week ago, I don't understand what could have changed that I would now need a static DNS.

    Hello Fahad,
    Please see my inline responses.
1)I have some questions, does this 5500 Series of ASA firewall also have IDS(Intrusion Detection System)?
You can have an IPS module if your ASA model supports it.
    2) My other question is that the configuration and troubleshooting of SSL VPN technique is  same on all ASA models?
    Yes, pretty much the same
    Regards,
    Jazib

  • VPN Clients cannot access remote site

    Hey there,
I am pretty new in configuring Cisco devices and now I need some help.
    I have 2 site here:
    site A
    Cisco 891
    external IP: 195.xxx.yyy.zzz
    VPN Gateway for Remote users
    local IP: VLAN10 10.133.10.0 /23
    site B
    Cisco 891
    external IP: 62.xxx.yyy.zzz
    local IP VLAN10 10.133.34.0 /23
Those two sites are linked together with a Site-to-Site VPN. Accessing files or ressources from one site to the other is working fine while connected to the local LAN.
I configured VPN connection with Radius auth. VPN clients can connect to Site A, get an IP adress from VPN Pool (172.16.100.2-100) and can access files and servers on site A. But for some reason they cannot access ressources on site B. I already added the site B network to the ACL and when connecting with VPN it shows secured routes to 10.133.10.0 and 10.133.34.0 in the statistics. Same thing for other VPN Tunnels to ERP system.
What is missing here to make it possible to reach remote sites when connected through VPN? I had a look at the logs but could not find anything important.
Here is the config of site A

The crypto ACL for the site to site vpn should also include the vpn client pool, otherwise, traffic from the vpn client does not match the interesting traffic for the site to site vpn.
    On Site A:
    should include "access-list 107 permit ip 172.16.100.0 0.0.0.255 10.133.34.0 0.0.1.255"
You should also remove the following line as the pool is incorrect:
    access-list 107 permit ip 192.168.10.0 0.0.1.255 10.133.34.0 0.0.1.255
    On Site B:
    should include: permit ip 10.133.34.0 0.0.1.255 172.16.100.0 0.0.0.255"
NAT exemption on site B should also be configured with deny on the above ACL.

  • ASA 5505 site-to-site VPN tunnel and client VPN sessions

    Hello all
I have several years of general networking experience, but I have not yet had to set up an ASA from the ground up, so please bear with me.
I have a client who needs to establish a VPN tunnel from his satellite office (Site A) to his corporate office (Site Z).  His satellite office will have a single PC sitting behind the ASA.  In addition, he needs to be able to VPN from his home (Site H) to Site A to access his PC.
The first question I have is about the ASA 5505 and the various licensing options.  I want to ensure that an ASA5505-BUN-K9 will be able to establish the site-to-site tunnel as well as allow him to use either the IPsec or SSL VPN client to connect from Site H to Site A.  Would someone please confirm or deny that for me?
Secondly, I would like to verify that no special routing or configuration would need to take place in order to allow traffic not destined for Site Z (i.e., general web browsing or other traffic to any resource that is not part of the Site Z network) to go out his outside interface without specifically traversing the VPN tunnel (split tunneling?)
Finally, if the client were to establish a VPN session from Site H to Site A, would that allow for him to connect directly into resources at Site Z without any special firewall security rules?  Since the VPN session would come in on the outside interface, and the tunnel back to Site Z goes out on the same interface, would this constitute a split horizon scenario that would call for a more complex config, or will the ASA handle that automatically without issue?
I don't yet have the equipment in-hand, so I can't provide any sample configs for you to look over, but I will certainly do so once I've got it.
Thanks in advance for any assistance provided!

    First question:
Yes, 5505 will be able to establish site-to-site tunnel, and he can use IPSec vpn client, and SSL VPN (it comes with 2 default SSL VPN license).
    Second question:
Yes, you are right. No special routing is required. All you need to configure is site-to-site VPN between Site A and Site Z LAN, and the internet traffic will be routed via Site A internet. Assuming you have all the NAT statement configured for that.
    Last question:
This needs to be configured, it wouldn't automatically allow access to Site Z when he VPNs in to Site A.
Here is what needs to be configured:
    1) Split tunnel ACL for VPN Client should include both Site Z and Site A LAN subnets.
    2) On site A configures: same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    3) Crypto ACL for the site-to-site tunnel between Site Z and Site A needs to include the VPN Client pool subnet as follows:
    On Site Z:
    access-list permit ip
    On Site A:
    access-list permit ip
    4) NAT exemption on site Z needs to include vpn client pool subnet as well.
    Hope that helps.

  • Remote access vpn issues

Hi all, I have been having issues with my remote access vpn, I can connect but cannot ping anywhere, I have enabled ipsec over nat-t, but still does not work, I noticed that when I did an ipconfig on my machine, I get the ip address assigned by my asa, 10.120.50.2 /32
but the default gateway is showing as 10.112.50.3, is this correct, I thought it should be the same as the interface address ?

    Hi Carl,
Can you make sure you have the following in your config:
    isakmp nat-traversal
Can you also ensure your internal network has routing in place to cover your VPN client pool.

  • Remote Access VPN strange behavior

    Hello all,
    I have a problem with remote access VPN on a ASA5505 (8.2).
I can establish a VPN connection and can ping the ASA, but nothing else on the network! Not only ping isn't working, I've also tried RDP, HTTP, and file access.
Additionally there is a site-to-site VPN to this ASA, which is working perfectly.
I have another ASA5505 which is almost configured the same and there it's working, so I really don't know where the problem is.
I hope you guys can help me!
    Many thanks in advance!
    Here's my config:

I note in your config that the pool of addresses for remote access VPN is a group of addresses included within the range of addresses on the inside interface. I have seen situations where this caused problems and so have a couple of suggestions:
    - do the devices connected on the inside network have routes to the vpn pool of addresses?
    - if you change the vpn address pool to use addresses that do not overlap with your inside network, does the behavior change?

  • Problem with traffic over Remote Access VPN (Cisco ASA5505)

    Hi
I've changed the VPN IP pool on a previously functioning VPN setup on a Cisco ASA5505, I've updated IP addresses everywhere it seemed appropriate, but now the VPN is no longer working. I am testing with a Cisco IPSec client, but the same happens with the AnyConnect client. Clients connect, but cannot access resources on the LAN. Split tunneling also doesn't work, internet is not accessible once VPN is connected.
I found a NAT exempt rule to not be correctly specified, but after fixing this, the problem still persists.

I've checked all the debug logs I could think of and tried various troubleshooting steps. Any ideas?

    Hi
The bulk of the devices are not even routing through the ASA, internal devices such as IP phones, printers, etc. There is also large wastage of IP addresses which needs to be sorted out at some stage.
Outside IP address is 196.215.40.160. The DSL modem is configured as an LLC bridge.
Here are the debug logs when connecting if this helps at all. Nothing is logged when a connection is attempted though.
    Regards
    Lionel

  • One VPN connection at a time.

I have an issue with the Cisco 4.01 VPN client connecting more then one connection.
I have it set to connect to the remote sight using the following parameters
    Group Authentication
Transparent Tunneling with IPSec over UDP (Nat / Pat)
I have also selected allow local LAN access
I am connecting to the remote network through a Sonicwall firewall to the remote Cisco device.
I have no problem getting connected to the remote network. All connection attempts work.
If I have a VPN connection connected and active the next connection that is made disconnects the first one. This is repeatable and constant. So each connection is successful but it always disconnects any session that is active from that location.
Multiple sessions are possible as long as they don’t originate from the one site. In other words workers working from home do not affect workers working from the main office.
Any Ideas as to what may be causing this?

just wondering what sort of cisco device we are discussing here.
the issue maybe related to the vpn client pool.
e.g. the pool should start with x.x.x.1, not an entire subnet.

  • Static-nat and vpn tunnel bound traffic from same private address?

    Hi guys,
    I have site-to-site tunnel local host @192.168.0.250 and remote-host @172.16.3.3.
For this local host @192.168.0.250, I also have a static one-to-one private to public.
    static (mgmt-192,outside-50) 216.9.50.250 192.168.0.250 netmask 255.255.255.255
As you can see, IPSec SA shows end-points in question and traffic is being decrypted but not encrypted host traffic never enter into the tunnel, why?
How can I resolve this problem, without complicating the setup ?
