VRML files in PDF?

I'm new to the forum and Acrobat 3D in general.
We have an application that creates VRML files on the fly. The same report later generates a report of the apps findings in a PDF file (using iText). We'd like to include the VRML file in the PDF, but I'm not quite sure how to go about it. Acrobat 3D seems to be an interactive application and I've only seen real mention of U3D files.
Is there a way for our program to embed the VRML files into the PDF? Can Acrobat 3D do this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David,
I don't know if you're still looking for answers on using color in vrml and the problem with Acrobat 3D toolkit. If so, after trying a few things with our models I determined that the use of the DEF and USE keywords to define objects seemed very important. If I did not set a certain Appearance and Material using the DEF and then just tried to used it again by recreating the same way things when bad using Acrobat.
However, if I used DEF to define the Appearance and Material and then used USE for any similar objects later in the file things where consistent.
I'm very new to this stuff, so I may be incorrect, but below is a small model that worked and looked the same in both a vrml viewer and Acrobat 3D tool kit.
