Vsftpd root dir

I wan to set the root dir for the ftp server to /srv/ftp instead of the home dir of that user and want to allow anonymous access. I want to run a local ftp server for testing some app. Is there a easier alternative to vsftp.

I think vsftpd is a perfect mix of simplicity and possibilities.
Look at the entry in the Wiki and you see some hints. The options:
- create a unique user
- make that user the sole owner of /srv/ftp
- in the vsftpd.conf set it to chrooted and define the name of the user
To allow anonymous access isn't an issue. What you have to decide though is whether access includes rights to create directories and upload files (to upload anonymously is probably not such a good idea, if you don't implement some kind of quota).

  • Root dir of ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream

    Hi,
    I'm using
ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("my.properties") to load a property file in JVM. Could
anyone tell me where should I put the file. I have tried
many locations, the root of all the classes, the dir of
the project file (I'm using JBuilder4.5), and the dir of jre.jar, but still can not read the file in.
    Thanks a lot.
    Jim

I place the properties file into the project root folder (one level above the main package folder) and use
    ClassLoader.getSystemClassLoader().getResourceAsStream("my.properties");Hope that works for you,
    Kurta

  • Reflow installation creating strange ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4 folders on the root dir of my secondary drive.

    Some background info:
    Win7 Pro, x64
I just got Adobe CC and did an install of a lot of the software on my C: system drive, which is a small SSD. The D: drive is a separate physical HDD. I then created symlinks for a lot of the software (besides PS, Illustrator, InDesign, and the smaller ones like all the "Edge" software) and moved those to my D: storage drive. Once again, to clarify, Edge Reflow and Photoshop are both still on the C: system drive where Adobe CC installed them originally.
After I installed Reflow, three folders got created on my D: drive, named: ps1, ps2, and ps3. Their folder structures are almost, if not completely, identical to each other:
A quick system-wide search of "reflow.generate" also identified another identical folder sitting inside my Photoshop CC directory at:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Plug-ins\Generator\reflow.generate
This folder has the same file/subfolder structure as the above.
I am wondering what the ps1, ps2, ps3 folders are and what they are doing sitting in my root D: drive directory. I tried uninstalling Reflow, after which those folders disappeared. I then reinstalled Reflow and they appeared again as p1, p2, and p4 (instead of p3). The other folder, within the Photoshop plugins folder, is back again also, as can be seen here:
I understand that these folders are part of the Adobe Photoshop / Edge Reflow generator plugin that I have watched a video of. What I do not understand is why I am getting these extra "ps" folders on my other drive. The only other thing I can think of that might help is that I have Photoshop's scratch disk set to the D: drive. Edge Reflow has not been ran at all since its own installation, however.
Are those "ps" folders safe to delete?
    Thank you.

    Hey Chris,
I just installed Edge Reflow Preview (CC), and I already had Photoshop CC 2014 installed, on Windows 7.
    Reflow installed to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Edge Reflow CC Preview
The plugin installed itself correctly to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014\Plug-ins\Generator\reflow.generate
    And the installer also created:
    D:\ps1\Generator\reflow.generate
    D:\ps2\Generator\reflow.generate
    D:\ps4\Generator\reflow.generate
Looking at the installer log in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\Edge Reflow 1.0 08-21-2014.log.gz

Taking a wild guess, I suspect the installer is looking for four Photoshop plugin directories, thus "ps1" - "ps4":
    ps1 = PHOTOSHOP_PLUGIN_DIRECTORY
    ps2 = PHOTOSHOP_PLUGIN_DIRECTORY_32
    ps3 = CC2014PHOTOSHOP_PLUGIN_DIRECTORY
    ps4 = CC2014PHOTOSHOP_PLUGIN_DIRECTORY_32
I only have Photoshop CC 2014 installed, so likely its plug-in directory is "CC2014PHOTOSHOP_PLUGIN_DIRECTORY", and thus there is no "D:\ps3" directory created.
And if that's the case, the other plugin folders do not exist, so for some strange reason the installer decides to install ps1, ps2 and ps4 to D:\
    Again, just a guess.

  • Any restriction on Mac that binaries running from root dirs like /usr/libexec/ cannot load dylib's at run-time?

    Hi all,
Is there any restriction on Mac OS X 10.6/10.7 that binaries running from root directories like /usr/libexec/ cannot load dylib's at run-time using dlopen() or NSAddImage()?
I am trying to run a binary like "sample" from a directory inside /usr/libexec/ which tries to load a dylib like "sample.dylib" which is present in the same directory as "sample".
It resulted in a segmentation fault with the following error and stack-trace.
Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory.
    Reason: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at address: 0x0000000000003430
    0x0000000000003430 in ?? ()
Using gdb, I could find out that the program crashed inside dlopen() (the path passed to dlopen() being a simple filename like "sample.dylib").
The dlopen() at the top of the stack-trace pasted below gets called around 10 times; it does not crash during this 2nd level dlopen() any-time.
    #0  0x00007fff81be9e93 in dlopen ()

After this 2nd level dlopen() gets called 10-15 times, the stack will unwind from map_images_nolock () till  __dyld_dlopen (). But when it tries to finish all the instructions inside  __dyld_dlopen () and step out of it, the program crashes with the EXC_BAD_ACCESS signal.
Please find below the final stack-traces obtained during debugging when I put breakpoints for AAA() and dlopen() and went on stepping inside till the program crashed.

    To summarise:
For some reason, a user wants to install a product and its binaries under /usr/libexec/.
This binary tries to dynamically load a dylib using dlopen("sample.dylib", RTLD_LAZY | RTLD_LOCAL).
It looks like, the dynamic linker then opens dependent dylibs and runs module initialisers. Then crashes when returning (which sounds like a trashed stack).
Can anyone please tell me whether there is some OS-imposed restriction or OS bug which can explain this type of behaviour?
(Note: The crash does not occur if the binary and dylib are installed under a normal user's home directory and run from there.)
    Many thanks,
    Vinay

The otool output for the binary and dylib are pasted below.

You probably need to read http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
You need to describe in details what is you problem, how you start a terminal? You question dont make sense (where in the world is gvim a virtual terminal???)

  • SAXParserFactory attempting fetch of services file from httpd root dir

Background: I have a small applet that uses the java plug-in. This applet displays a navigation tree for my intranet site. The applet is archived in a jar file. The applet fetches an XML file from the hosting server and then uses JAXP SAX2 parser to convert the XML data into the tree. My parser factory creation follows the examples on this site:
    SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
According to the documentation on SAXParserFactory, it looks in four places for the concrete class to use for the parser factory:
    - Use the javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory system property.
    - Use the properties file "lib/jaxp.properties" in the JRE
    directory.
    - Use the Services API (as detailed in the JAR specification), if
available, to determine the classname. The Services API will look
for a classname in the file
    META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory in jars
    available to the runtime.
    - Platform default SAXParserFactory instance.
I let the platform default be selected and the applet runs fine.
The problem is that with every access to the page, I get the following entries in the access and error logs for my apache server (with JRE 1.4.1_01 and 1.4.2):
    access:
    xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx- - [27/Jun/2003:09:06:43 -0700] "GET /META-INF/services/javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory HTTP/1.1" 404 258
    error:
[Fri Jun 27 09:06:43 2003] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] File does not exist: XXX/meta-inf/services/javax.xml.pars
    rs.SAXParserFactory
I don't have a services file in the jar file for the applet because I wanted it to use the platform default.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Is there a workaround without having to hardcode a concrete class path into a services file embedded in the jar?
    Thanks in advance,
    Paul

It's looking to find out which SAX parser you want it to use. You can specify that any number of ways (system property, service provider, etc.).

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation Media Root Directory location for XP SP3?

Where is the SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation Media director?  This question asks during a 'new installation or add features to an existing installation'.  The installation media root directory is not indicated under 'options'.  I trying side-by-side
installation next to SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.
It appears that C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2 (where 1033_ENU_LP, Resources, and x86 dirs are installed) is the installation media root directory, but is is not a valid folder.
Also tried copying the 1033_ENU_LP, Resources, and x86 dirs from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2 into a directory that I created in c:\2008R2installationDir, and then running setup.exe, but still do not have
an installation media root dir specified under options.

There is no DVD; SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU.exe was downloaded.  This problem occurs when setup.exe is run, after running *ENU.exe to download the files.  Specifying the directory where the
    SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU.exe doesn't help.
    >>It doesn't seem like any instances have been installed, yet.  Nothing shows up under Administrative Toos | Services.  Under Start | Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 , there are two choices:  Configuration Tools and Documentation&Tutorials.
    Hello,
What seems to me that you have downloaded SP2 for SQL server 2008 R2(SQLServer2008R2SP2-KB2630458-x86-ENU.exe ).And as you say you dont find any thing under SQL 2008 r2.So i guess that is why SP2 installation is not moving
ahead. Can you download SQL server 208 R2 setup again and install database engine and ither fetures with client tools. And then you can move ahead with SP2 installation

  • [SOLVED]Root file system changed

    I'm currently using ArchLinux
I'm not sure what went wrong, but now when I login as root and "cd" I don't see the root file system. Instead i see
        [root@aspect ~]# ls -al
    total 36
    drwxr-x---  7 root root 4096 Apr 13 16:29 .
    drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Apr 13 08:18 ..
    -rw-------  1 root root 2849 Apr 13 16:27 .bash_history

    drwxr-xr-x  3 root root 4096 Apr 13 10:35 .local
    drwx------  3 root root 4096 Apr 13 16:29 .nv
If I cd to ".." I can see the root file system from there.
Also When I drag files into terminal, it can't locate them. I Used a java folder I had in downlaods as an example. But it's like this everywhere.
[aspect@aspect ~]$ file:///home/aspect/Downloads/jre bash: file:///home/aspect/Downloads/jre: No such file or directory

Sometime today a hidden directory containing kde files was created in the /root being owned by root.  That's how
So the problem here is I came from debian. And aparently there when you cd as root, it will bring you to the atual file system.
    Fair enough.
I was told to edit /etc/passwd and change the root dir to just / from /bin/bash
Now I can no longer login as root. I will try to boot recue mode and chroot into the system to fix the file.
That would be the way to fix it.  You may not need to actually chroot, just mount the root partition at /mnt and edit /mnt/etc/passwd.
As to not running desktop environments as root -- it is a pet peeve of mine.  I am not saying this about you, you understand the issue;  but I have had arguments with people in the past about not running GUI DEs as root, and them insisting on it being their machines and they can do what they want.  They are absolutely correct.  But they can also fend for themselves.
Edit:  If you do have another user in wheel, and if wheel can gain root privileges, just log in as that user and use sudo to fix it.
    Yeah it's a security risk.
I've fixed the file. But I'm just not sure why I can't drag and drop paths anymore. It apears as though it's not a common thing anyways.

In my root file system ./proc incresing after some intervals. My root dir going to full. Tell me any solution to resolve this problems.???

Uh, no. /proc can't increase in your root filesystem because /proc is not part of your root filesystem. 'du' descends and crosses filesystem boundaries by default.
    Run this:
    du -dk / | sort -n > /tmp/root_du.sort
The bottom few lines of that file will show the largest directories in the filesystem. You may find some sort of log file or some hidden directory you were unaware of. What are they?

  • Installing an air application directly to user root directory or C:\

I am compiling an AIR file for Flash CS 5 and the filed for install  directory gives me a place where I can put a value for install location  but this install location is
inside the program files. I want my app to install directly to the C: drive on users computer how can I do that.
For example: if I put a value in the field as "my app"  the install location of this app will be C:\program files\my app\
but I want to install to C:\my app\
If I put the value as C:\program files\my app\  then it does not compile
If I put the value as <root dir>\my app     then it doe snot compile
Any work around would be appreciated.

I just tried and was able to install my app to the root of the C: drive with no problem. Do you have the proper permissions on your machine to allow you to install to that location? I recorded a quick screencast to show you the steps I took:

  • Can I deploy an application as ROOT url?

I have an application, which the linking and redirection urls use the absolute link. So, if i deploy it, I must deploy it as ROOT for runing. but in the Oracle9ias I can not find out how to do, any one can help me? thanks a lot.

    Hi,
Amazingly enough, I'm stuck with the same problem! Chech the thread that I've started:
    Re: Count(*) doubt
At this point I have one question: are you using the standalone oc4j or the 9iAS?
I have troubles with deploying my application in 9iAS under the root dir. For an unknown reason, the opmn.exe (oracle process manager) crashes completly.
Note that I took the exact steps as you did in order to mount my application. The only difference probably is that I have a servlet in the fromt that intercepts all the requests. See the thread that I've pointed out for more about this.
Please tell me if you have had any problems (crashes or anything unusual) deploying your application under ROOT.
    Thanks a lot!
