VTP between CAT3750-X and CAT4500-X

Hi,
I have a 3750 and a 4500 that are trunked together to share vlan 10 and vlan 100 through a VTP domain - test. The VLAN 100 on my 4500 has an IP of 192.168.3.1 and the VLAN 100 on my 3750 has an IP of 192.168.3.5. Is this do-able? For some reason I can't ping itself 192.168.3.5 locally from my 3750, but I could ping it from my 4500 or any other workstations on vlan 100. I can ping 192.168.3.1 (4500) from 3750.
Why is this the case?
I have created VLAN 10 on the 4500 with an IP of 192.168.2.249/30 so it can be an interface to connect to the next hop of 192.168.2.250/30 to my inside interface of my firewall. Again, I can ping 192.168.2.249 from my 4500, but I can't ping it from my 3750.
Any help or pointer would be greatly appreciated!
thank you!

It's up to really as to how you do it.
There are two main options -
1) have everything in vlan 100 and use the firewall as the default gateway.
The 4500 and the 3750 do not need to do any L3.  You can create SVIs for them in vlan 100 and give them IPs and if you want set the default gateway to be the ASA.
All clients would use the ASA as their default gateway.
Any traffic between clients and servers would not go to the ASA because they are all in the same vlan/IP subnet.
or
2) leave it is as it and set the default gateway for all clients to be the vlan 100 interface on the 4500. The 4500 needs to have routing enabled and a default route pointing to the ASA.
The ASA needs a route back which you have
The 3750 does not need routing enabled and can just be configured with a default gateway the same as the clients ie. the vlan 100 interface IP on the 4500.
You don't need vlan 10 on the 3750, only vlan 100.
If you are going to be creating more vlans in future it makes sense to go with the second option.
Otherwise it doesn't really matter to be honest.
Really it's up to you as either will work.

  • VTP Between 3750 and 2811

    Hey All,
I'm attempting to create a trunk between a 3750 and a Cisco 2811 router (with a 16 port switching module NM-16-ESW). I'm using an etherchannel trunk between the two. I'm trying to configure VTP on the 3750 (server) and make the 2811 a client. Below is a copy of the configs and output from relevant commands. Any clue why I'm not seeing vlans on the 2811?

    Hey All,
Thanks for the input! I was actually able to solve the issue. It appears that "sh vlans" is different on an IOS router than an IOS switch. On the router it shows sub-interface ISL/dot1q trunks to a switch. This is obviously different for me as I have a switching card. In order to see VTP in action on the router and verify it was working I actually needed to view it through the VLAN database. See below:
    MPLS-TEST#vlan database
    MPLS-TEST(vlan)#show

  • Waas and Cat4500

    Hi,
I have the Cat4500 and I'd like to use WAAS for TCP optimalization. I can use only WCCPv2 for traffic redirection. I don't know which mask I have to set. I wrote that for Cat4500 is only one mask supported.
I'm sending you the WCCP configurations of WAE and Cat4500 for WCCP. Are these configs right?
    WAE:
    wccp router-list 1 10.4.238.249
    wccp tcp-promiscuous router-list-num 1 l2-redirect mask-assign l2-return
    wccp version 2
    Cat4500:
    ip wccp ver 2
    ip wccp 61
    ip wccp 62
    int vlan 1
    desc „LAN network“
    ip wccp 61 redirect in
    int vlan 2
    desc „WAN network“
    ip wccp 62 redirect in
redirect exclude in - is not supported on Cat4500.
    Thank you.
    Roman

L2 redirection will redirect packets us Layer 2 MAC rewrite vs. Layer 3 GRE.
As sessions are redirected to the WAE, the original sessions source will be that of switch interface. Upon return the it will be converted back to original source MAC.
    WCCPv2 TECHNICAL DETAILS
WCCPv2 group membership is initiated by a WAE when it transmits a WCCP2_HERE_I_AM message to each defined network device (or multicast address) in the configured router-list. This message includes details about the WAE, including IP address and service groups that the device wishes to participate in. Upon receipt of the WCCP2_HERE_I_AM message, the network device will respond with a WCCP2_I_SEE_YOU if the device meets group membership criteria (as specified by shared-secret MD5 authentication password or access-list). Upon receipt of the WCCP2_I_SEE_YOU message from the network device, the WAE must respond with another WCCP2_HERE_I_AM message with the "Receive ID" field matching that of the network device message. At this point, the WAE becomes active within the service group and usable, and the network device can begin redirecting traffic to it based on service group assignment. WCCP2_HERE_I_AM and WCCP2_I_SEE_YOU messages continue to be sent every 10 seconds as a service heartbeat. The WAE is directly queried for responsiveness after two missed heartbeats and removed from the service group if a third is missed.
WCCPv2 is designed to forward traffic to an available WAE using either layer 2 redirection or GRE tunneling (default). One of the components of the WCCP2_I_SEE_YOU message is the advertisement of supported forwarding mechanisms. If a method is not listed, it GRE tunneling is used by default. Redirection assignment is done per service group. A WAE and a network device can use different redirection mechanisms for different services. Layer 2 redirection specifies that the redirecting router will rewrite the Ethernet addresses in the Ethernet header and forward the frames to the WAE. With Layer 2 redirection, the WAE must be adjacent to the network device (attached to the same subnet). GRE tunneling specifies that a GRE tunnel will be established between the network device and the WAE, and the original frames will be encapsulated into this tunnel and delivered to the cache. With GRE redirection, layer 2 adjacency is not required (the WAE can be attached to a different subnet).
To preserve connection and data integrity, the WAE will only optimize TCP connections or protocol sessions that were redirected from the beginning of the establishment attempt. If a TCP connection or protocol session was previously established from the client to the server before redirection was enabled, the WAE would recognize this as an existing connection or session and simply return the redirected traffic back to the router without applying optimizations. This is a function of the "packet return" capability of WCCPv2. The WCCPv2 packet return capability is also negotiated per service group, per WAE, at the time of joining a service group. This is also a function of the WCCP2_HERE_I_AM and WCCP2_I_SEE_YOU messaging. In the event that messages are redirected to a cache that didn't service the initiation of the connection or session, the WAE will return the messages back to the router within a GRE tunnel for normal handling.
WCCPv2 provides load-balancing and high availability through a built-in load-balancing mechanism that distributes load amongst WAEs within a service-group. The most common method of load-balancing with WCCPv2 is enabled by use of hash tables. A hash table is a 256-bucket table that is used to define the distribution of traffic amongst applicable caches. The hash table can be built based on a number of items including source or destination IP address.

  • Fast EtherChannel between Catalyst 3750 and 2821 Router

    Hi Guys
I'm trying to setup a Fast EtherChannel between a cat3750-smi and a 2821 router that consists of only 2 links.
    I am following instructions per TAC, but I'm getting an error along the way;
    On the cat3750:
    interface port-channel 1
    no switchport
Command Rejected: Not a convertable port
    Can anyone help???
Also... do the IP Addresses for the EtherChannel need to be the same for both port-channels? Or do I assign the switch like 192.168.1.1 and the router 192.168.1.2 ?
    Thanks!
    Adam

    Hi Adam,
The ip address cannot be same but it should belong to same subnet. So one side 192.168.1.1 and other side 192.168.1.2 will work fine.
Its better to convert your layer 2 port as a layer port fist so what you do the port which you want to be port channel go that that interface and convert with "switchport" command
once it is a layer 3 port configure with channel group and automatically layer 3 port channel will be created and you can sssign an ip address then.
Just give a try and update if it works.

  • Communication between MDS C9134 and C9222i

    Dear Support,
need your help to fix my setting.
I have bought now the good 10GBFC Module for connexion between MDS C9134 and C9222i. the trunking is OK between the 2 switches.
But we have Vsan with zone on each MDS but they cannot communicate.
Please find in attach my setting.
    Waiting for your feedback urgently
    Best Regards

    Hello Omer,
Yes, you got it right, LANs are very different from SANs. VLAN concept is similar to VSAN, but there are a few differences. First of all, there is no concept of LAN's VTP in Cisco's SAN-OS (NX-OS). You need to manually create VSANs on all switches. Secondly, "inter VSAN routing (IVR)" is not automatic. You have to configure IVR vsan-topology and IVR zones+zoneset. But in your case, maybe you could just put all devices into the same VSAN and simply control communication between devices using zones. Yes, you could use only VSAN 1 to solve it. Place everything into VSAN 1 and configure zones in VSAN 1 on one of the switches. Place zones into zoneset, activate it, and active zoneset will automatically propagate in VSAN 1 to the other switch.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

  • What is difference between sy-tabix and sy-index.

    SAP Seniors,
Can you please let me know what is difference between sy-index and sy-tabix.
I read the SAP help, it is confusing for me. it looks like both are same from help. please help me.
    Thank you
    Anitha.

    HI,
Here is a brief description of difference between SY_TABIX and SY_INDEX and using them with several conditions.
    SY-TABIX
Current line of an internal table. SY-TABIX is set by the statements below, but only for index tables. The field is either not set or is set to 0 for hashed tables.
APPEND sets SY-TABIX to the index of the last line of the table, that is, it contains the overall number of entries in the table.
COLLECT sets SY-TABIX to the index of the existing or inserted line in the table. If the table has the type HASHED TABLE, SY-TABIX is set to 0.
LOOP AT sets SY-TABIX to the index of the current line at the beginning of each loop lass. At the end of the loop, SY-TABIX is reset to the value that it had before entering the loop. It is set to 0 if the table has the type HASHED TABLE.
READ TABLE sets SY-TABIX to the index of the table line read. If you use a binary search, and the system does not find a line, SY-TABIX contains the total number of lines, or one more than the total number of lines. SY-INDEX is undefined if a linear search fails to return an entry.
SEARCH <itab> FOR sets SY-TABIX to the index of the table line in which the search string is found.
    SY-INDEX
In a DO or WHILE loop, SY-INDEX contains the number of loop passes including the current pass.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,
    Pavan.

  • What is difference between sy-index and sy-tabix and where both are using ?

what is difference between sy-index and sy-tabix and where both are using ?

    hi nagaraju
sy-tabix is in Internal table, current line index. So it can only be used while looping at the internal table.
sy-index is in Loops, number of current pass. This you can use in other loop statements also (like do-enddo loop, while-endwhile)
    SY-INDEX is a counter for following loops: do...enddo, while..endwhile
SY-TABIX is a counter for LOOP...ENDLOOP, READ TABLE...
Here is an example from which you can understand the difference between sy-tabix and sy-index.
Itab is an internal table with the following data in it.
    id Name
    198 XYZ
    475 ABC
    545 PQR.
loop at itab where id > 300.
    write :/ itab-id, itab-name , sy-tabix, sy-index.
    endloop.
    My output will be :
    475 ABC 2 1
    545 PQR 3 2
Sy-tabix is the index of the record in internal table.
sy-index gives the no of times of loop passes.
So, for the first record in the output (475 ABC), 2 is the index of the record in internal table and as it is first time loop pass occured, sy-index value is 1.

  • Select query differences between oracle 9 and oracle 8.

    Hi,
I have a problem using the select query between oracle 7 and oracle 9i I don't have the same result :
    ex:
    With oracle7
    SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
    'CHAMP 'CHAMP
    champ1 champ2
    With Oracle 9
    SQL> select 'champ1','champ2' from DUAL;
    'CHAMP1' 'CHAMP2'
    champ1 champ2
So Can someone tell me how to solve this problem ? Is there a parameter in oracle 9 to set?
    Thanx.

Whenever you are posting anything over internet forums like this - you should be very careful about not just posting the details which requires to solve the problem - also should be sensible about your question.
This is not at all desired when you are posting such question. It may be because - you may not well aware of the fact.
My suggestion is -> First Go through the basics Of SQL in general.
Then go for any specific product like Oracle/ SQL Server/ Sybase etc.
And, finally learn the advanced commands of that DB.
You asked it - may be you thought the difference in output in terms of lines. But, that is not your actual output. That is the graphical display part only.
    Anyway,
You can get the quite familier output by first type the following command ->
    set lin 310Regards.

  • The difference between photoshop eps and illustrator eps

Before installing snow leopard, Quark Xpress could distinguish between photoshop eps and illustrator eps files when a file needed to be modified. Now all it does is open files in only one item of software (depending on which you have told it to open files in). It's very inconvenient
    Anyone got any ideas?

It sounds like you may have assigned EPS files to open in a particular app. That causes anything ending in .eps to open in that app, and the OS ignores the rest of the UTI (Uniform Type Identifiers) data.
About the only way to fix it is to clear the LaunchServices database. Close all running applications. Open the Terminal and copy/paste the following line and press Enter:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
Close the Terminal and immediately restart. The OS will build a new database based on the installed applications. EPS files created by a particular application should now open in that app.

  • The difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers

Does anyone know what is the difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers? I can not find anywhere on Google. Also in the tutorials I have seen, suggesting DVD Studio Pro markers, but it did not mention the chapter markers.
    Thanks,

"Adding Chapter and Compression Markers to Your Sequence
Once you have your edited sequence or program finished, you can add markers to the sequence for use on DVD. Markers are reference points you can place within clips or sequences that identify specific frames. There are two kinds of markers you can add that directly relate to authoring a DVD—chapter markers and compression markers.
    • Chapter markers allow DVD authoring applications to create a navigable chapter list for your exported QuickTime movie. Chapter markers force MPEG keyframes (known as I-frames) at their location, since the DVD specification requires an I-frame at each chapter point.
    • Compression markers identify areas of abrupt change and include two types: those that are automatically inserted by Final Cut Pro at all edit points, and those you manually place in the clip or sequence. Like chapter markers, compression markers force I-frames at their location, although in this case it is for better quality encoding, and they are not used to create a chapter list.
Note: When you export a QuickTime movie, you have an option to export various kinds of markers, including compression, chapter, or DVD Studio Pro markers. *When you choose to export DVD Studio Pro markers, Final Cut Pro actually exports chapter markers and all compression markers.* This includes compression markers you set manually, as well as ones created automatically by Final Cut Pro at edit and transition points."

i want to know if the difference between an iphone and an ipod touch is just that the iphone is like a phone that has internet and is a phone. or what else is it?

The iPhone includes the same as an iPod Touch but also includes a phone, a camera, and a GPS radio.
In addition to having internet access via wi-fi, the iPhone also has internet access via the cellular network, so as long as you have cellular reception with the iPhone, you have access to the internet in addition to having access via an available wi-fi network.

  • The difference between system restore and last good known configuration

    hi,
what is the difference between system restore  and last good known configuration.
in which situation you use system restore ,and in which situation you use last good known configuration.
very short answer wil be enough.
    thanks
    johan
    h.david

Last Known Good Configuration deals only with Starting Windows eg. a bad registry or incorrect driver is preventing Windows to start. It recovers the registry settings of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet
While System Restore uses restore points to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time without affecting personal files. Restore points are created automatically every week, and just before significant system events, such as the installation
of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually. You can undone system restore but there is no such option in Last Known Good Configuration.
Last Known Good Configuration is disabled in Windows 8 or,Windows 8.1 by default.
Try using Last Known Good Configuration if you can't start Windows, but it started correctly the last time you turned on the computer.
Try using System Restore to return the system to an earlier point in time when things worked correctly.
