VTx on MSI P43-Neo3 FR (1.0) and Intel Core 2 Duo E7400

Good day guys...
I was trying to develop (beginner) on Android and I was using this machine for it. Well, the Android SDK has the Intel HAXM bundled with it, it's for VTx-feature of Intel.
Now, I know Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 is on the list that has VTx, but when I run the Intel HAXM installer, it detects that it was not supported. After a few clicks on google, there is somewhat a setting on the BIOS that would enable the use of VTx...
And that's why I asked here, is there something in P43-Neo3 that makes VTx disable or was it not supported?
*BTW, using XP Pro SP3 on this machine...

Good day guys...
A good day to you, too.

I know Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 is on the list that has VTx
It kind of depends on the exact version:
http://ark.intel.com/products/36500/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E7400-(3M-Cache-2_80-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB)#ordering
Intel says: "See SPEC Details" which forces is to look here:
http://ark.intel.com/products/36500/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-E7400-(3M-Cache-2_80-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB)#orderingretired
Three versions of the E7400 are mentioned:
LGA775      65 W   BX80571E7400   SLB9Y   VTx: No
LGA775      65 W   BX80571E7400   SLGQ8   VTx: No
LGA775      65 W   BX80571E7400   SLGW3   VTx: Yes
We need to make sure, that you have the third version first.
What is your current BIOS Version, by the way?

    MSI P43 Neo3
Kingston HyperX 2 DIMMs at 1GB each.
    Geforce 8500GT
    Antec TruePower 350W

I am just wondering what should I do to fix this...

Can we known better details about memory sticks used and the CPU
Verify that memory sticks and VGA are filled very well into slots.

  • Get a MSI P43 NEO3-F?

    Hello.
I am thinking of getting a $100 MSI P43 NEO3-F (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=P43_Neo3-F&class=mb ) since I am upgrading my current Windows XP Pro. SP3/gaming system (see http://alpha.zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt for the full details) to a faster setup, and moving most of my old hardwares to my Debian/Linux box after Christmas 2008.
Currently, I am planning to get an Intel Core 2 CPU (dual 8xxx or quad Q8200 -- undecided at this time) with an Andy Sycthe Master 120mm CPU fan or something (don't like the loud fan noises when spinning high especially when my room is over 85F degrees during the heat waves and gaming!), ATI Radeon HD 4850/4870 video card, 2 GB of RAM (dual channel 800/667), two 7200 RPM SATA HDDs (one new and one old), a SATA DVD burner, etc. I still need IDE for my old DVD-ROM drive (like having dual DVD/CD drives especially when copying and being lazy), 3 PCI slots (old SB Audigy 2 ZS + 2 TV tuner cards), still use PS/2 mice and keyboards due to my old KVM box (USB types are too expensive), still need a serial port for my old USR Sportster 33.6k dial-up modem for emergencies, Windows XP Pro. SP3 (bah for Vista), etc.
I do not overclock my stuff. This upgrade is mainly for gaming. If I didn't game, then I would still be using my single core Athlon 64 system.
    Thank you in advance.

I believe that Seasonic isn't half bad. It's def. not a "recommended" PSU, but I believe you'll have a good chance it'll make it.
If you'd be OC-ing, I would recommend to get something else straight away. CPU OC + Graphics OC = quite a stong increase in required power.
But since you will not, I bet it'll be ok.
I had a old LC power 650W PSU, which is now also happily pulling a HD4850x2 + Intel E8500 (stock, ahh, what a waste), and that one had 20A, 18A, 2A 12V rails. However, Everest 4.6 reports that the 12V rail is doing 8,96V while gaming. (near failing that is) BIOS (idle reports 10,88) However do note that these are just indications, not emperical measurements you should trust.
And that said about the PSU - The P43 Neo boards are great value, especially if you don't want to OC, if don't want / need to go over 400Mhz FSB. RAID, Crossfire (8x/8x) and OCing are the only reasons to go with a P45 or X48.
Heh, I had the motherboard up since 12/27/2008 with the old SeaSonic PSU. It seems to work.

  • MSI P43 Neo3 will not boot

    CPU: Intel C2Q 9300 @ 2.5Ghz
GPU: eVGA 8800GT KO SLI 650/950/1620
    Mobo: MSI P43 Neo3
    Ram: OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB)
    Sound: SB X-Fi Gamer
PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
I put this all together, and it simply will not boot. Hard drives fire up, all my fans spin, optical drives try to read but I get no post to the screen whatsoever.
Also, I would like to add that I had two GeForce 8800gt's since I was the proud (sarcasm) owner of an eVGA 750 Sli FTW.  I also own an MSI Radeon 1550 graphics card. All three were tried, system would post with none of them.
Any help you guys might be able to give would be extremely helpful, thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    please do this:
    1) Take the board out of the case and test it on a non-conducting surface in barebone configuration.
    2) Barebone configuration means:
    - CPU (reseat CPU & heatsink, check socket for bent or broken pins)
    - video card
    - one stick of RAM (test both modules seperately in all memory slots)
    - Keyboard
    - power connections (Board: 4-Pin +12V CPU and 24-Pin ATX, Video Card: 6/8 Pin +12V PCIe)
[Remove all hard drives, optical drives, add-on Cards (X-FI), case wiring, additional USB Devices, Card Readers etc. from board and/or PSU]
    3) After Hardware changes clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU.
Did all of that, even checked with my with coolermaster 600w PSU with 2 12 volt rails. No difference.

  • MSI P43 NEO3 with Xeon E3110

I have a P43 NEO3 with 8 Gb RAM and a Xeon E3110 processor. I want to set up an MSDN test box at home running Windows Server 2008 Datacenter with Hyper-V. I don't see any option in BIOS to turn on the virtualization features in the E3110. I'm running Windows XP 32-bit at the moment and everything runs fine. Before I set up the Datacenter OS, I wanted to know if the motherboard is automatically accessing the virtualization routines in the E3110? Or (more likely), the P43 NEO3 isn't set up to take advantage of those virtualization features and I should be looking for a different motherboard?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Quote
I'm suspecting that MSI only enables the virtualization routines on server-class boards, not desktops.
On what ground are you basing that suspicion?  I have a P45 Platinum and Virtualization is automatically enabled (and there is no special note about that anywhere either (the fact that the BIOS shows no information about Thermal Protection does not mean that the CPU will not clock itself down when it gets to hot.  It is a feature of the processor and supported by default).
I believe there is a tool somewhere that will check if Virtualization Support is enabled.  Let me check.

  • MSI P43 Neo3-FR loses time in Windows?

    Hello,
I have a couple of months old P43 Neo3-FR mainboard with the latest bios 1.7.
It's running fine, except the fact that my Windows time is lagging. This lagging is about 1,5 second per hour.
So when I leave my pc on for about 8 hours (when I'm away), the clock lags about 12 seconds...
It happens in Vista x64, as well as 7 x64.
But the weirdest thing is, when my pc is off, the clock seems to keep up perfectly fine.
When I synchronize before I turn my pc off, and I turn it on again the next morning, the clock is still in perfect sync.
I know I can synchronize via regedit with SpecialPollInterval hourly or shorter... but it still bothers me that it can't keep up time on it's own.
So, to rule out a couple of options:
    - I replaced my CMOS battery with a new one, no difference
    - I don't have anything overclocked, my E8400 is running stock speed at 3,0 GHz
    - I switched HPET, EIST and C1E off and on, no difference
    - I have tested this on clean installs of both Vista and 7, both show the same aberrance, so no spyware or viruses
    - It has happend on all bios versions I tried (1.4, 1.5, 1.7)
Is there something physically wrong with my motherboard, like some sort of broken 'clock crystal'?
    Can someone please enlighten me?

Does it happen running xp? if you still have it, load it on a spare harddrive and check its clock. Vista does strange things... maybe it warps space and time in your rig! (ha-ha).
Well, I don't think it has to do with Vista, since Windows 7 shows exactly the same annoyance (also about 1,5 seconds per hour). So I can only assume Windows XP does the same...
By the way, my parents PC has also Vista, but their clock runs fine at the second, on or off (on an Asus P5QL Pro board). Also, my laptop (Toshiba A200-13J) with Windows XP is running fine at the second.
But I don't understand why it doesn't lag when it's turned off, or in the bios, but it starts to lag when in Windows... The only explanation I can find is that Windows reads the clock from something else than the CMOS battery, am I right?
Some people say that Windows manages it's own time, but then why the hell does Windows (and probably XP too) lag ONLY on my P43 and not my parents PC and laptop?

  • MSI 975x PowerUp Edition and Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 overclocking

As subject says, BIOS ver. 7.40, board rev.2.1, CPU works on other boards up to high 3GHz+ and on this one not even a megahertz over standard 200...
Memory is not a subject, A-DATA Extreme, known to work up to 1GHz, cooling by TT Big Typhoon an PSU by Antec, case CM Wave Master...
No matter what I do, I can't OC the CPU!
    Any clues?
    Wait for BIOS release?
Or grab the hammer and smash the thing apart...

Guys, thanks a lot for your effort...
    Now, where I am now!
7.1B6 works for me only a day, then suddenly rebooting machine caused full stop...no move, no sign of being alive! Hard reset few times kicks in, but not as for the first few hours.
Flashed v7.4B3 which recognized my CPU, thank god and locks me back in the 200MHz FSB range... so all this for nothing!
I did manage somehow to raise to 225MHz, but that's it!
That device is still there unrecognized and still poking my eye out. No Realtek (1.61 by the way) solved UAA HD device, not this one. That is some mystery! I played with BIOS, turning on and off, that's where I come across reboot problem, but no avail!
As I am IT pro, I know you are amazed where all this comes from me, and also need to run WinXP X64, I did believe however that I will go across mapping issues, hope you got some experience. At the moment I am still on W32 partition and still fighting my fight with that nasty board!
I did used AMD systems in the past and I know that timings are all about that platform, but also Intel required decent timings otherwise you experience that wool effect on your desktop alone!
Using Ryan VM prepared copy of WinXP, which worked flawlessly anywhere, using all my knowledge I am close to give up. Nice looking board but that's where everything stops!
When I mentioned that magic speed of 333MHz, I am talking about my b/f machine where only difference seems to be motherboard, and he opted for Gigabyte 965P DS3P, and as you know, this one doesn't come with another 8X PCIE which I will need. Also there's no active cooling on anything, and there same, very same CPU I got worked at 400*9, with very same RAM without a hiccup!!!! For about a month and a half! No reboot prob, no prob recognizing CPU, no unknown devices and so...
I know solution would be to get rid of this board ASAP, but then I should turn to new set of problems however and probably new set of friends across the globe! All the drivers are reinstalled gazillion times, and being a new driver freak, yes I do used all the latest!
What a tough nut! I believe if MSI read this sooner or latter they will point out that even Intel on their own motherboard support overclocking as this is part of their global plan widespreading their technology. You must know that only OC helped AMD raise, and now very same story work for Intel as well!
    Guys, help me!

Speancer, what was the BIOS version yours shipped with?
I got a GAMING 5, according to MSI Support it's V1.0, since I don't have a spare LGA1150 chip I'm really curious if 4790K is going to work as it is. My build is from entirely new parts, so if somehow it fails to POST, I can't know for sure if it's because of the outdated BIOS or something else, It would be great to know if it's actually going to work or not on 1.0 .
Anybody tried 4790K with 1.0 BIOS? Does it work?
It was 1.0  Like I said, it works perfectly ouf of the box on MSI Z97 Gaming 5 with i7 4790K CPU. After installing system and most of my softwares like it was before format, I noticed that I could not enter BIOS, but system was working normally. Then I flashed BIOS from 1.0 to 1.3 in Windows and it worked again and has been working ever since.
Good luck with your new rig

  • MSI H61I-E35-B3 Mini ITX and Intel Xeon LGA1155 Cpu ?

    Hi,
I've bought MSI H61I-E35-B3 Mini ITX board, it supports LGA1155 processors, core i3 / i5 / i7. My question is - have anyone tested this board with Intel Xeon processor ? For example Intel Xeon E3-1235 3.20GHz LGA1155. I've read in some other Mini ITX LGA 1155 boards descryptions, that they suport this cpu's. Maybe this one can also support it.

It's not in the supported list;  http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/H61I-E35--B3-.html#/?div=CPUSupport
Recommend to confirm with MSI Tech Support; http://support.msi.com

  • P43 Neo3-FR + Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 freezing

Hi guys, I'm building a new comp
    The specs are:
    MSI P43 Neo3-FR
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
    4 x 2Gb Kingston KVR 800Mz HyperX DDR2
    Coolermaster  550w PSU
    Samsung Spinpoint 500Gb Hard Drive
    LG DVD drive
    Asus 8800GS graphics card
    Windows 7 Home premium
The problem is it keeps freezing, when I try to reload the programme, when it loads to the desktop, at totally random times!!
It'll go on the internet fine then it'll freeze!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    I've probably missed looods out

Yes I've done that and it was no different.
So I had a bit of a play with the RAM/Northbridge voltage settings, basically upping them a bit, it got a bit better i.e- it stayed on for longer 2 hours managed to download Mozilla, Avast and MSI Live update. Ran the MSI Live which said the BIOS was v1.3 and the online BIOS was v1.A0??
So closed it down last night with no probs, then tried it this morning and it froze. So I upped the aformentioned voltages and it eouldn't even boot. I tried various voltages with no joy, so I went back to what worked last night and, again, it was fine, until I tried to rate the computer in System properties. A box comes up with Running the Direct3D 9 Aero Assesment, at which point it gets about 1/20th along the bar and freezes. Re-boot it and it seems fine but try that and it goes.
    These are the current figures:
    MULTISPEED OC BOOSTER - DISABLED
    D.O.T.  CONTROL - DISABLED
    INTEL C-STATE - DISABLED
ADJUST CPU FSB FREQUENCY - 200
    ADJUSTED CPU Ratio - 9
    ADJUSTED CPU FREQUENCY - 1800
    FSB/DRAM Ratio - AUTO
    CPU Voltage - Auto
    DRAM Voltage - 1.848
    VTT FSB Voltage - Auto
    CAS -AUTO
    tRCD - AUTO
    tRD - AUTO
    tRAS - AUTO
I downloade CPU-Z which gave me these figures for the RAM :
    CAS LATENCY (CL)- 6 CLOCKS
    tRCD                   - 6 CLOCKS
    tRD                     - 6 CLOCKS
    tRAS                   - 18 CLOCKS
    tRFC                   - 52 CLOCKS
    COMMAND RATIO 2T
So I take it when I was told to put the RAM timings to 6-6-6-18 its CL-tRCD-tRD-tRAS???????

  • P43 Neo3 ICH10R Setup Help

I have a new P43 Neo3 that I cannot get into the intel RAID config at all.
I reflashed the BIOS per technical support and reset to optimized defaults, I ensured the on-chip sata controller was enabled and the RAID option was set to AHCI. I am using two unused, unpartitioned, blank 1TB SATA drives and have a third so I need to use ICH10R in order to set up a RAID5 for data redundancy and hot swap failover protection.
CTRL+I during post does not work.
I verified that switching to the JMICRO ports and pressing CTRL+J works for the JMICRO Raid controller, but I wanted to use the intel chip to support more drives. Am I just confused and this board really doesn't have both Intel and JMicro Raid chips, the manual indicates that both are available, and that the intel chip will support RAID devices on SATA ports 1~6, JMICRO on SATA ports 7~8
Ive been a network engineer and a PC support technician for 12 years and this is the first time something I've focused on has completely stumped me. Any help and relief from feeling like a moron would be greatly appreciated.
Hardware details below, I've removed all extra devices to minimize confusion and eliminate the possability of compatibility issues.

    Seagate 1000GB SATA HDD
    Nvidia Quadro FX 3500 PCI-E

It would appear my problem is that the labeling/marketing of the P43Neo3 system wasn't very clear. Even AFTER reading the manual (before posting this thread in the first place) I was under the impression that the model I purchased included the ICH10R raid chip, obviously it doesn't wich kind of Sucks, but I was able to get at least RAID0 set up from the JMicro Raid chip which is no this board.
All in all, its been a rough upgrade process, I've also never seen a system that requires timing entries for RAM to operate normally, Fail safe defaults and Optimized defaults all resulted in bonstant windows bsod shortly after boot up, but then I've also never upgraded to 8GB of Ram.
Once I figured that trick out, I'm cruising...

I just got a p43 neo3-f board and have been dissapointed to find it only allowed 417 fsb, after which nothing but bluescreens and lockups on entering windows occur.my chip will definitely go beyond 417, and is able to get to that point with low volts 1.26 and runs cool.Increasing cpu volts, mem, vtt,or mchhave zero effecton this wall..Ive tried  bios version 1.0,1.1,1.2,1.3,and 1.4.It seemed that more options available in 1.3 and 1.4 but they were even worse for stability and none break beyond 417 fsb. It would seem very underwhelming for a p43 or p45 chipset to do so poorly.I wish more bios were available. anyone know where to look? links?,are the bios for the platinum series or other p45 models interchangeable? Any help appreciated, ive spent days trying every concieveable options in the bios and cell menu to no avail. No, you should under no circumstances try to flash a BIOS that was released for another P4x board unless you want to kill your system.

When I give it power all of the fans come on (including video card), but nothing else happens.  I've tried it with just CPU, 1 stick memory, video card and only the power switch hooked up to board - same thing happens.  I've also tried using a different video card (old ATI that's regular PCI, not PCIe).  I've checked that the cpu is mounted correctly with not bent pins and the fan is properly seated (looked at the back of the board).  All of the standoffs are mounted correctly and there is nothing that could be shorting the back of the board (like a standoff in a wrong place).
I'm not sure if this board can beep without an external speaker ( I saw a header for one, but I don't have a cpu speaker), so I don't know if I'm actually getting a POST code or not.  Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,
Have you triple checked all power connectors:
    - 24-Pin ATX
    - 4-Pin +12V CPU
    - 6/8-Pin +12V PCIe (Video card)

Can you check the sSpec number of that processor to find out if it is the C0 or the E0-Revision?
Please have a look at the board's BIOS Chip to find out the factory BIOS Version:

You can only find out when you actually connect a speaker to the pin header's speaker pins.  Doesn't your case have an integrated speaker that you can hook up to the pins?
