P43 Neo3-FR + Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 freezing

Hi guys, I'm building a new comp
The specs are:
MSI P43 Neo3-FR
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400
4 x 2Gb Kingston KVR 800Mz HyperX DDR2
Coolermaster  550w PSU
Samsung Spinpoint 500Gb Hard Drive
LG DVD drive
Asus 8800GS graphics card
Windows 7 Home premium
The problem is it keeps freezing, when I try to reload the programme, when it loads to the desktop, at totally random times!!
It'll go on the internet fine then it'll freeze!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
I've probably missed looods out

Yes I've done that and it was no different.
So I had a bit of a play with the RAM/Northbridge voltage settings, basically upping them a bit, it got a bit better i.e- it stayed on for longer 2 hours managed to download Mozilla, Avast and MSI Live update. Ran the MSI Live which said the BIOS was v1.3 and the online BIOS was v1.A0??
So closed it down last night with no probs, then tried it this morning and it froze. So I upped the aformentioned voltages and it eouldn't even boot. I tried various voltages with no joy, so I went back to what worked last night and, again, it was fine, until I tried to rate the computer in System properties. A box comes up with Running the Direct3D 9 Aero Assesment, at which point it gets about 1/20th along the bar and freezes. Re-boot it and it seems fine but try that and it goes.
These are the current figures:
MULTISPEED OC BOOSTER - DISABLED
D.O.T.  CONTROL - DISABLED
INTEL C-STATE - DISABLED
ADJUST CPU FSB FREQUENCY - 200
ADJUSTED CPU Ratio - 9
ADJUSTED CPU FREQUENCY - 1800
FSB/DRAM Ratio - AUTO
CPU Voltage - Auto
DRAM Voltage - 1.848
VTT FSB Voltage - Auto
CAS -AUTO
tRCD - AUTO
tRD - AUTO
tRAS - AUTO
I downloade CPU-Z which gave me these figures for the RAM :
CAS LATENCY (CL)- 6 CLOCKS
tRCD                   - 6 CLOCKS
tRD                     - 6 CLOCKS
tRAS                   - 18 CLOCKS
tRFC                   - 52 CLOCKS
COMMAND RATIO 2T
So I take it when I was told to put the RAM timings to 6-6-6-18 its CL-tRCD-tRD-tRAS???????

  • G31M3-L V2 and Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 freezing only on restarts

I have had the stated computer for less than a week now. The first day I had it I installed a PCI Wireless Card which caused nothing but troubles. The system would constantly freeze, always requiring a hard shutdown/restart. In the process of installing new drivers for this card my computer started freezing when I went to restart it as well(Note, I was also installing several programs and catching up on the Windows Updates, but after all the troubles with this card I used system restore to go back to before anything new was installed). It would shut down normally but once it began to boot up again it would immediately freeze at the very first screen that pops up, almost exactly like this one http://img167.imageshack.us/i/x38d19fw4.jpg/. If I manually shut it down from this frozen state and attempted to power it on again within 10 seconds it would freeze the same way once again. If I waited 15+ seconds it would start up normally.
I have since scrapped the Wireless Card and uninstalled the drivers but I am still having the issue with the restart freeze. Keep in mind I installed 3 different sets of drivers for this card in attempt to get it working, possibly they were not all removed? If I shut the computer down, wait a few seconds and turn it back on it goes normally, it only freezes when it is attempting to restart, there are no other ill side effects that I can see.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit.
    Any ideas?

Sorry about the cluttered post,s.  I have figured out what my issues are with  g31m3-l v2 motherboard . I have ran mem test on memory,, memory checks out OK, and runs good. The main problem was the  CORE 2 QUAD  Q8200 INTEL CPU M1 .  The CPU caused compatibility issues with the chipset drivers. the g31 chipset drivers. According to Intel the g31 chipsets are not compatible with the  Core 2 Quad  q 8200 m1  CPU.  I have ruined 2  new hard drives from this combination CPU and motherboard due to what i suspect  incompatibility issue with the q8200 m1 and the g31 chipset  located on the  g31m3-L v2 motherboard.  Looks like i will need to step up too at least the 35 Intel chip set  controllers on future motherboards. Oh yeah i slipped my old Prescott 630  single core CPU lga 775 socket CPU in this motherboard and it works pretty darn good . One more thing,  I switched OS systems to--- --- PC Linux OS 2009.1---- . AND I HAVE NO MORE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH ISSUES. I have been working on this motherboard set up with win xp and win xp pro for about 18 days due to issues with g31 chipset [before i read specs about g31 chipset will not work ] and  windows software  reactivation issues due to me re loading the OS system over 17 times from system crashes . Good old microsoft froze my software license from so many installations . Thank you  microsoft you  -S.O.B.'S.

  • P6N SLI Planitinum & Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield

I just bought my new Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield cpu and after installing it, my PC would not boot. I oput my old cpu (Intel Core 2 Duo) and it booted fine.
After some search I found out that P6N doesn't support Q9550 Yorkfield (unfortunately).
Is there a way to make my new cpu work or is my only way is to buy a new mobo (keeping my new cpu)?
    My PC specs:
    - Windows Vista 32-bit SP1
    - GeForce GTX 260 896MB
    - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66GHz (new: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield)
    - 8GB RAM total (even though only 6GB is showing)
    - MSI P6N SLI Platinum
    - Antec 900 case

    Quote
then I guess I'll buy a new mobo (and I make sure it's not MSI).
Well, then you need to make sure that your new mainboard does not come with an NVIDIA 650i Chipset which is  used on the P6N SLI Platinum.  This chipset does not suppport 45nm Quad Core Processor, no matter what manufacturer.  Here is the CPU Support List for an Asus P5N-E SLI for comparison, which uses the same Chipset as the P6N SLI Platinum:
    http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P5N-E%20SLI&product=1
Do you see any Q9xx0 Processors in the list?  Exactly, they are not supported, because the chipset is not up to the task.
    Quote
    This is really messed up.
Sorry to say, but when you are building your own system, it is your responsability to make sure the parts you want to use are supported.  It is not like the CPU Support Lists are a secret.  Like Daloona said:

  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550@2.83GHz slower than Core 2 Duo E4600@2.40GHz

    Hi all,
I have got 2 Intel Core 2 systems with the following components:
    System 1:
    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
GPU: nVidia Corporation GeForce 9800 GT (rev a2)
    RAM: 4 GB
    Disk: ATA Hitachi HDP72505
    Mainboard: ASUS P5QL-EM
    System 2:
    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40GHz
GPU: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8400 GS (rev a1)
    RAM: 4 GB
    Disk: ATA Samsung HD252HJ
    Mainboard: Intel So. 775
On both Arch64 is running with almost the same software installed. Installation and Configuration of both were without any problems.
The problem is that System 1 with the Quad CPU obviously is slower than System 2 with the Duo CPU. For instance converting a video from H.264 to XVID4 with Avidemux takes about 70 minutes on System 1 while it takes about 50 minutes on System 2.
CPU load on System 2 is much higher than on System 1. Load during conversion on System 2 is at approx. 75% and on System 1 at approx. 50%.
So it seems like System 1 is somehow throttled.
I did some benchmarking with the benchmarking suite of linuxuser.de with both systems and hardware seems to be fine on both. I.e. all components of System 1 are more powerfull than System 2, if I do not misinterpret the logs.
Here are the logs (on archlinux.de):
    System 1 / Quad CPU > http://forum.archlinux.de/?page=GetAttachment;file=1183
    System 2 / Duo CPU > http://forum.archlinux.de/?page=GetAttachment;file=1184
I would appreciate any ideas of getting a grip on the problem.
    Thanks & Regards

    Here's a discussion about multithreading on avidemux's site http://avidemux.org/admWiki/index.php?t … ithreading
Note what they said about multithreading performance varying with different codecs. Maybe the ones you're using are wasting the resources of the quad core in attempting to run four threads. You might experiment with conversions that make use of different codecs to see if the same CPU load underuse happens with the quad core.

  • [SOLVED] (Arch)Linux and Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 ??

    hey everybody,
i just bought a new pc, a core 2 quad Q8200 and i have problems to get it work - even with other distros. I instert the install discs, i get the first screen where i can select Boot Live CD blabla, then i just see its unpacking the kernel and after that i just get cryptic errors. then it stops.
On arch i tried the ftp-i686 and ftp-x86_64 isos, both with the same result. i even tried other distributions. GRML: the same. Debian Installer: the same again. (just that the screen stays black on the other dirstros and i see nothing else).
could anyboy help me, please ? i think i used the correct isos, didnt i?

  • MacBook Pro 17" with Intel Core 2 Duo startup freeze with 10.6.8?

With my MacBook Pro 17" with Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz startup freeze with 10.6.8 - I had problems after several SW upgrades. Startup ends every time in a freeze or a crash, nothing is running, i am not able to type in the password. it starts in beginning with thin colored disrupting lines on the display and this get more and more and than freeze the system.
"Save Boot", startup with shift shows no problems, display is ok, no freeze. So something must new in the video-driver. Is there any driver what I can delete or any new software to help in this issue?

try to boot off the cd installazzione, when the screen appears to follow thePACKING screen viewing. If you've already looked in the manual are your problem?

Your specific processor does not appear on the CPU support list.

Suggest you contact >>How to contact MSI.<< MSI technical to check if there is any intention to do this. I doubt that they would do any further work on a BIOS on a discontinued MB.

I have a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac.  The updates download but when the mac tries to restart to complete the process the screen is just grey with a tool bar across the top System Updates, however the imac is completely unresponsive and will not even force quit.  I have even left it overnight on a couple of occasions in case it is due to the size if the update but to no success and have to turn the machine off manually.  It operates and functions during use but freezes when shutting down.
Any one have any experience of this or suggestions please?

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

    Hi Mohammed,
Did you ever get a resolve to your query about using SpeedGrade CS6 on a Core 2 processor?
I have a similar configuration and don't want to invest too much into my current computer hardware until next year when Intel rolls out their new micro-architecture wth SATA Express support.
So I am just wondering if you tried it and what the performance was like.

  • Will Core 2 Quad Q9650 work on M58p 7484-AHU

I have ThinkCentre M58p 7484-AHU which came with "Intel Core 2 Duo E8400" processor.
I see the following information in the detailed specifications doc:
        System Board:
Supports Intel Core 2 Quad processor with 4MB or 6MB L2 Cache
        Processor:
            Intel Core 2 Quad processor
        Cache:
512KB to 12MB cache, processor dependent
On another document where it lists system service parts, it lists this processor:
        Intel® Core 2 Quad Q9650 Processor 3.0GHz 1333MHz FSB 12M L2 cache
    So I am bit confused.
And I am hoping this Q9650 will work even if this processor has 12M L2 cache.
Above spec says only the those Core 2 Quad processors with 4MB or 6MB L2 Cache is supported.
It didn't mention or list 12MB L2 Cache in spec.  But on the Cache section of spec, it mentions "512KB to 12MB cache (processor dependent)".  I am not sure if this statement makes Q9650 processor with 12M L2 cache as a supported processor.  And again, the service parts documents does list Q9650 processor.
Which kind of makes me think it should be supported, but I am not certain.
Does anyone know if Q9650 processor which has 12M L2 cache should be supported?
Is there anyone who actually has this processor in their M58p system?
    Please help.
    Thank you.

I did not know that any desktop computer came with that SLOW of a drive... but, of course, I do not know every computer there is

  • Core 2 Quad Q8400 Problem (P6N SLI Platinum) [FIXED]

Hello, I recently bought an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 with the understanding that my P6N SLI Platinum will support Yorkfield cores, given I have the latest BIOS. I updated my BIOS to 1.6, yet it just hangs on the MSI screen and will not POST. I just want to know if I indeed do have the latest BIOS, and if so, if there's anything I or MSI can do to remedy this problem. I really don't have enough money for a new mobo or CPU, and I'm going to be extremely irritated if I just wasted $170 on this... Thanks in advance.

I'm here for help and complain, no msi is not supposed to know what will be intel releases, but  i think they can fix the problem by releasing a new bios or simply put on the boxes models when writing that it support this or that technology
if you searched a little on msi.com you would have ended up here:
    www.msi.com/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1140&maincat_no=1
here it says what  CPU 's the board can run.
so MSI does say, what you can use, but it doesnt say on the box, cause it changes all the time, so they keep an online list.
and no, they cant write a new BIOS, its a chipset limitation from the NVIDIA chipset that cant be overcome by BIOS update unfortunatly.
I would go for a cheap P45 board, they can almost run all s775 CPU's and its newer then the P6N.

  • Request GX620 C2Q (Core 2 Quad) bios mod

Hi everyone! I just got my powerful gx620 and I love the performance.
But I was wondering if there could be a bios mod to allow core 2 quads such as q9000,q9100,qx9300. I know that there is an edition that supports the core 2 quads the msi 1651 id2 the one that uses DDR3 ram modules, I currently have the one with DDR2 modules. I know that this machine could be able to handle a C2Q processor, it has a nice and powerful heatsink and fan!, I easily OC this machine using a P9500 to 3.03ghz!!.
So PLEASE I would like to have an even more powerful machine!! , a machine with C2Q and perhaps OC options for it like processor OC, memory OC.
Im aware of the risks! but I would like to give it a try!.
Thank you MSI I love this machine, I would recommend this machine to all my friends!!.

If you look at the GX620 MSI page  http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=135&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1529 On the top right hand corner you will see "• Intel® Core™2 Quad processor, with Intel® wireless technology" even though all of them are sold with Core 2 Duo. So that means C2Q is supported,
These 2 CPU's are included in the AVL list for the GX620 (1651) meaning they are supported by the machine :
    Penryn Core 2 Quad Q9100
    Penryn Core 2 Quad Q9000
MexicanSnake, are you saying that the two above do not work?  If that is what you are saying, contact MSI to see if it's your machine or that a mistake needs correcting on the webpage.

  • P35 Platinum/Q6600 Intel Core runs HOT! (I think)

    Hi,
    I Just bought and assembled:
    2GB Corsair DDR2 pc6400/800mhz
    700x Toughpower Thermaltake 700w PSU
MSI P-35 Platinum MainBoard / Intel Chipset
    Intel CoreDuo2 Quad Q6600 CPU (2.4)
    Nvidia 8600GT 512MB / DDR2 GPU (Pci-ex16)
CM 690 Coolermaster Mid ATX Chassis (Case)
    WINXP (Service Pack2)
Three120mm case fans  (I think they are only connected to the PSU)
1)Raptor WD SataII 74 GB for apps and OS Hard drive
    2) Western Digital SataII 500 GB Internal hard Drive for Storage
    OK.
Now after putting everything together and it seemingly is working well, does anyone have any idea what the average Intel Core Duo2 Quad (Q6600) 2.4CPU Temperature should be running at?  I have a MSI (Microstar P-35 Platinum Mobo) that came with DualCoreCenter Utility to monitor temp, system temps and
    settings in the Bios.
I went to the BIOS and noticed that the CPU Temp was running at 61 c / 141 f !    That sounds pretty high to me. The System Temp was 29 0 / 84 f.
The Fan speed was1775 RPMS.    Which one? It did not say,but I do have a front case 120mm,and a rear 120mm fan, and a 120mm side case fan, ad they are working.
In Bios, the System Fan #3 and #4 is Disabled.  Could that be that my friend hooked up the Fans directly to the Power supply and not split them to the mainboard?
Is there website on Normal operating temperatures for the INTEL Processors?
If anyone has the MSI P-35 Platinum Mainboard, and has installed the DuoCoreCenter utility, How do you change the temp settings for the Fans and the CPU?  I've seen the DOT Utility to change the OC settings, but I do not want to OC.
I installed the DualCoreCenter Temp monitoring software from the P-35 MSI (Micro-Star) Mobo Utility Disc and I also downloaded yet another software >CORETEMP (v0.96) software to see what B gwan'on, and it shows that all four Cores are listed,
    frequency is 2402.43 MHZ,
    Platform is LGA 775,
    VID is 1.2375v
    and the following temps:

    CORE #1   138 F /  59C
    CORE #2   126 F /  52C
    CORE #3   124 F /  51C
INTEL CoreDuo2 Q6600 2.4 Kentsfield Quad   The Stock Q6600 CPU heatsink Fan that came with the CPU only had three strips of adhesive on the bottom. I'm sure when I seated the CPU/HSF they were tight! Can I still try to tightned the posts without removing the HSF?  or get a better Fan along with that ArdticSilver 5 Thermal paste?
     Thanks again!

    Hi you all! :ohyeah:

If anyone has the MSI P-35 Platinum Mainboard, and has installed the DuoCoreCenter utility, Do you pretty much set at default? I am not going to overclock.
I installed the DualCoreCenter Temp monitoring software from the MSI (Micro-Star) Mobo Utility Disc and I also downloaded CORETEMP (v0.96) software to see if it's mirrored or not.

A few peeps told me that check to see if the Stock Intel Fan is seated..That the HSF or the CPU is not seated correctly and to remove and clean 91% alchol and apply Artic Silver5 thermal paster.
I looked at the leg pins and AhHa! One was loose, I tightened it up and now it's a few degrees cooler. Do I want to go with the coolest I can get so long as it does not go past the 212F MAX?
I let the beast cool overnight and upon startup, I checked the Coretemp and it read the following >
    CORE # 0 > 136 F
    CORE # 1 > 133 F
    CORE # 2 > 120 F
    CORE # 3 > 120 F
Well, I could remove the piece of crap Intel HSF,clean off the contacts,re-apply the thermal compound and see if that works...OR  remove (throw away) and replace with a new 3rd party HSF that sits on top of the board like the Intel does, OR remove the MoBo to install the HSF brackets, and find a heavy duty HSF, the paste, and put together.
I wish there would be a dependable, not too heavy, and not real expensive HSF I could place on top w/o removing the Mobo...lots of cabling, wires, cards, etc. to deal with.
Can anyone tell me what the highest temp possible to run without causing damage to the CPU, and the GPU?
Does anyone feel these are still too high of temps?     Do I DISABLE the Smart fan?  Can I do anything to chnage the temp in the DUALCORE CENTER?
    Thanks again!
