Wake on lan using Artigo A1000

Hello everyone,
I have an VIA Artigo computer.  I loaded Arch Linux on it and I wanted to use wake on lan.  I followed the instructions on the wiki page for wake on lan, but it would not work correctly when I tried to wake the computer using wol.  It would only work if I had hibernated the computer using the pm-hibernate command.  If I tried to wake it after turning the computer off by either using the halt command or shutdown command it would not respond to the magic packets.  I tried doing some searches for this problem but I couldn't find anyone using Arch Linux with a similar problem.  I broadened the search and found that others had experienced this problem in other distributions using similar hardware.  According to them, the problem was that when the computer was being shutdown it was taking network offline, which would prevent the system from recognizing the magic packet being sent.  Their advice was to prevent the OS from doing that at shutdown.  Unfortunately, their specific solutions didn't seem to apply to Arch Linux, I'm not sure if it has to do with their distros using sysv scripts vs Arch Linux's BSD style scripts or if it was my cluelessness.  I was able to get it to work by editing the /etc/rc.d/network file and commenting out the line that reads /sbin/ifconfig ${1} down >/dev/null 2>&1 in the ifdown() function.  Doing that has resolved my wake on lan problem, now the system will respond to magic packets sent using the wol command after I have shut it down using the shutdown command.  My gut feeling tells me that it might not be the best way to fix this problem, I'm concerned that I might update a package some time in the future and this configuration file may get wiped out.  Is that a valid concern?  Is there perhaps a better way of fixing this problem?
Please let me know.
Thanks!

  • Wake on LAN using get-cmdevice ?

Is it possible trigger the WoL feature that is used by SCCM to deploy apps and updates using a Powershell command?
    I'm thinking of something like:
    get-cmdevice -devicename xyz | do-CMWakeOnLAN
We have WoL functioning but sometimes it is useful to be able to wake up a PC without deploying anything.
    Any thoughts?
    Neil
PS I know there are 3rd party WoL tools but they don't use the information that SCCM has collected about a device

  • Wake on LAN on WRT54GC

I am attempting to send Wake on LAN packets using a website like http://www.dslreports.com/wakeup to turn on my home PC via my Linksys WRT54GC from my workplace.  I attempted to use the port forwarding functionality to forward UDP port 9 packets (as menioned on www.dslreports.com) to 192.168.1.101.  Of course, because the home PC is not switched on the router does not know on which interface to forward the data packet.  Is it possible to add a static route on the WRT54GC? Further to this I attempted to add in a subnet broadcast address in the port forwarding table to attempt to broadcast the wake on LAN packet to all interfaces but the WRT54GC would not accept 192.168.1.255 as a valid IP address (error 12).  Has anyone else ever attemped wake on lan using port forwarding on a WRT54GC?

    Hello,
It's very simple. Follow the steps:
    1. Start Firefox instead of IE
    2. Go to the "Port range forwarding" page of your WRT54GC
    3. In Firefox, go to Tools > Options
    4. Unselect "Enable JavaScript"
    5. If you use the default subnet, set 192.168.1.255 as network address
    6. Go again in the options of Firefox and select "Enable JavaScript"
    7. Save settings on your router
Remark: on the "Port range forwarding" page, of course you also have to set the UDP port on 7, if you use wolcmd.exe or on 9 if you use WOW from a web page. Don't forget to enable the rule.
I have tested and it works perfectly => firmware 1.03

  • Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too

  • Wake on LAN/Keyboard wake for a K8N Neo Platinum - how do I use this?

I've got a K8N Neo Platinum motherboard that I am using in my home theater PC and I was hoping to enable either the wake on lan or keyboard wake functions so that they could be controlled via a remote control. For now disregard what the overall outcome I want to achieve is... what I want to know is if enabling the WOL and/or keyboard wake function will allow me to turn on the PC from a completely powered down state as opposed to just powering up from a sleep/hybernation mode. I have read people with other motherboards have been able to power up by using their keyboard, mouse or even WOL when the computer is totally shut down. I'm trying to avoid leaving the PC in a sleep/hybernation mode due to electricity usage. Does this motherboard have the ability to power up when the whole system is shut down?
Also, what key on the keyboard is used to wake up the computer? The manual and bios instructions say nothing about what key needs to be pressed to wake it up.

I know you can set various wake options in the bios. Check there!
You can wake up the computer by wriggling the mouse or pressing any key, if the options are enabled in the bios.
    Hope this helps

  • H55M-E21 LAN off (LED off) in S3 state, can't use wake on LAN (WOL)

    I'm using H55M-E21 and Win7.
I can put PC to sleep mode (S3) and can wake it up by PS2 keyboard. Now I want to try remote desktop to wake up and connect to the slept PC. I can't connect to it.
The LAN link is down, the link LED from the back of PC is off.
In BIOS -> Power management -> ACPI on, BIOS on, ACPI Stanby state = S3, EuP2013 diabled
In Wakeup Event -> Resume by PCIor PCI-E device enbled.
    Please help.

There are a few things you should check.  Go into device manager and open the properties for the NIC you are using for this remote connection.  First click on the Power Management tab and make sure the options are checked to "Allow this device to wake the computer".  I would uncheck the option to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" if it won't work while it's checked.  You should also check the magic packet box.
Click on the Advanced tab and enable the option for "Wake on Magic Packet" and "Wake on pattern match".  I can't recall if the "Shutdown Wake-On-Lan" option is supposed to be enabled or disabled but try enabled first.

  • Can I use Wake-On-LAN with P1606dn Printer?

I have a P1606dn laser printer which is remotely located and the power is remotely switched.
When it is first powered up, the button on the front has to be pressed to cajole the printer into life .  It lights up green and we are good to go.  After this, even if it has dropped into power saving mode, sending a print commnad wakes it up and network printing works fine.
However, I want to do away with the walk to press the button when it is first powered up.  I've tried using a Wake-On-LAN command to the IP and MAC addess of the printer, but nothing happens.
I realise I could leave it permananetly powered but don't want to do this because there are other devices on the same supply that need to be turned off at night.
How can I get it to wake up remotely?
    many thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Whenever power is first applied to the P1606dn, that has been in a no-power state, the unit is turned Off. The unit's power light may be on, but the unit itself is off. Whenever you press the button, then the unit goes through the power up and obtains the IP address to function.
    Hope this helps.

    Hy ,
My mac pro (SL 10.6.8) wakes up every minutes when I use wake on lan and I share one of my Hard Drive.
When I unplug the ethernet cable it doesn't wake any more so I suppose that some thing wakes it up on my network ( 1 printer canon MP620, 2 mac books, 2 iPads, 2 IPhones and 2 time capsules !) ...even when all these devices are "sleeping"
    Any idea?

  • Using the Wake On LAN feature

I use software that allows me to turn off the computer, and then have it come back on if I "activate". I believe this feature is called WAKE ON LAN. My questions is what do I have to do to the MAC to get it to do this? Is there something in the OS that I have to say "wait for signal, then start up"
Any help with this would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Chaz

You need to plug that Mac into the network(wireless won't work), enable the feature from the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, and then use a tool on another computer to send it a magic packet.

  • Using verizon wifi fios router - need to wake on lan mountain lion

There is a lot of discussion about this issue, but other than using apple routers, I haven't seen a way to get this to work: I want to wake up my local macmini w/ mountain lion from my other macs.  I have the settings set up to do it on the macs, but it is not getting through the network.  Probably has to do with a setting in the router, but I need help to know how to do that.  Thanks.

If it's useful, here's a write-up on wake on LAN and related topics from a while back, with links to various other documents, tools and mechanisms.
Various of Apple's wireless devices provide what's known as a sleep proxy for the target system.  That is, the wireless devices mimic "being" the target device, and will wake the target device when there's activity determined to be necessary.
For the wake-on-LAN stuff, all of the intermediate routers have to support the traffic, and they almost certainly won't...  As an alternative, get a firewall with a VPN server, VPN to that, and have at.
If you're particularly inclined, there are various fairly affordable network-connected power strips, or (more expensive) network-connected battery-backed power supplies; remote-managed less-interruptable power supplies.  These can be used for controlling power, once you're connected to the VPN server on your LAN.

  • Does ZCM use Magic Packets for Wake On Lan?

    Hello,
not sure if this is the correct forum...
can someone please refer me to the technical documentation of wake on lan from ZCM or tell me how Zenworks has internally implemented Wakeonlan - is it simple Magic Packets or is there some other mechanism?

  • Wake on Lan not working properly?

So as far as i'm aware Windows 8 supports wake on lan whilst the device is either in sleep or hibernate (not completely off) and so far it works fine when in sleep mode (no randomly turning on like lots of people have been saying) but nothing happens when in hibernate. Is there any particular reason why this may be?
    Lenovo G780
    Windows 8.1
Using unified remote (full) to control power options (tried in both administrative and not)
Qualcomm Atheros AR8162/8166/8168 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30). Set to recieve packets
and i think i've made all of the nessasary changes to BIOs and my router (Belkin) to allow WoL (seeing as it works when sleeping)

    Hallo Forumreaders,
WOL (Wake On Lan) works only through a router when it is capable to forward to broadcast LAN-IP-adres.
In my consideration only the good old BEFSR41 is capable to forward to the broadcast adres for example 192.168.1.255 (SM: 255.255.255.0)
Because there is no IP-adres in powerless PC's the "Magic Packet" (which WOL realy is) MUST be send onto your LAN by means of the broadcast-adres.
Other routers are  NOT able to sumit a adres like 192.168.1.255 in a subnet of 255.255.255.0 because they are NOT allowed to use any broadcast-adres.(they can get trouble by means of a broadcaststorm!!!)
So do not get rid of that old router you have!!
    More info;
The "Magic Packet" contains the MAC-adres of your recipient host and wil trigger the powersupply of that PC.
For Internet WOL, try http://www.dslreports.com/wakeup, submit your IP-adres of your home, your MAC-adres of your PC and klick on "Wake up".
Looking for an application for on a USB-stick, download the small tool; http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-gui.aspx
    Hope I helped,

  • Wake on Lan works on my MacBook Pro, not on my iMac...

Hello everyone, with all these threads about the problem, I wanted to start a new one to make it clear, with all information you may need in order to help me out.
I've got a MacBook Pro '15 and an iMac 21.5', both are running (clean install) OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2, both are up to date with the latest updates, both have the same apps, both have the same settings in "system preferences", and of course the same settings in "sharing" options.
My iMac is connected to my 5GHz network from my Time Capsule while my MacBook Pro use the 2.4GHz network.
Before going to bed, I leave both my Macs turned on, after 10min they go to sleep automatically. In the morning I can wake up my MacBook Pro from my iPhone or iPad with a screen sharing app.
The iMac doesn't respond at all. It stays in sleep mode. I can leave my MacBook Pro asleep for a week, it always responds. The iMac responds after a few hours but after 6 or 8 hours it seems to be completely asleep and doesn't respond to anything. If you think it's about the iPhone/iPad's app, when I try to wake the iMac from my MacBook Pro with "Back to my Mac" I have the same results.
I tried to connect my iMac to the 2.4GHz network: same problem.
OF COURSE "WAKE ON LAN" is activated in my system preferences.
I made a reset of the PRAM, the cache and the SMC on my iMac: same problem.
I type sudo periodic daily weekly monthly in the terminal and sudo dscacheutil -flushcache: same problem.
I tried everything I may have found in the forums or on this Support from people having the same issue: same problem.
I even tried to set the iMac with the same sleep mode as my MacBook Pro: same problem.
    PLEASE HELP ME!

I'm connected with the WiFi of my Time Capsule (bridge mode). I have this configuration since Snow Leopard, and no troubles...
I understand that, but if your router is not an Apple AirPort Base Station then it introduces an element of uncertainty. Apple has implemented many changes related to wireless networking recently.
You are complicating matters by changing networkoversleep:
networkoversleep - this setting affects how OS X networking presents shared network services during system sleep. This setting is not used by all platforms; changing its value is unsupported.
Solving problems like this requires that you simplify your network environment and eliminate its unknowns. Using third party routers and making unsupported changes runs counter to simplification.
The iMac stays connected to the Time Capsule about 6 hours during sleep. Then it dissapears...
The iMac wakes periodically (every few hours) to inform your router of its network presence for Wake on LAN demands. Try changing your router's DHCP lease period to something longer than a few hours. For a home environment, a few days is more appropriate. This may not solve the problem, but it is better than making unsupported changes to your system.

  • HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi MFP Mystery Wake on LAN

The printer wakes unexpectedly, and unpredictably on the network. I cannot determine what, if anything, is waking it. The printer wakes and goes into calibration without any users on the network and without any print jobs. Mystery wake on LAN.

The HP drivers won't load on my 10.10.x (10.10.1 thru 10.10.4) OSX macbook pro.  The install says the version of OSX isn't supported even thought I've tried 1.5.0 dmg file which is for 10.7 and greater.  I did the math and I believe 10.10.x is greater than any version of 10.7.  I also tried HP Easy Scan and it doesn't even see my scanner.  Printing works fine, but I scan a lot of paper.  Also, I've found that the Mac OSX version of the HP software (when it still worked) creates obscenely large PDF files.  I can get around this by opening Adobe Acrobat Pro and re-saving the file as a reduced file size with the same name.  I can take a 25 MB file HP creates and get it down to about 300KB or so.  I found a way around all this but you won't like it.  I've loaded Parallels (installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit) and installed the windows client in my parallels image.  The windows client works fine.  Not a solution I prefer, but this is an HP issue not an apple issue .... HP hasn't put out a driver for this printer in the better part of 3.5 years.  Lastly, I'm not hooking up a USB cable to my printer/fax/scanner .... what's the point of having a dhcp network capable printer if I have to hard wire to a PC? I've used HP printers since the mid-'90s, but I guess it's time to find a company that supports OSX.

  • T500 Wake on Lan (wireless) does not work.

    Hi,
I set up T500 (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit) for wake on lan,
    1) Enable Bios WOL
    2) Enable WOL in power manegement tab of Intel WiFi Link 5300 AGN property in device manager.
But WOL does not work. Sending magic packet from a PC in the same WiFi segment does not wake up sleeped T500.
Are there any setting for WOL in lenovo tools ?
Does anybody use WOL(WiFI) on T500?
    Thanks,

    Is the T500:
Associated with an access point at the time it is put into standby/sleep mode?
Connected to AC power for the whole time it is in standby/sleep mode (in otherwords the whole time it is in a low power state) when you are attempting to use WoWLAN?
If not, that may be at least part of your problem, as it is a known limitation on WoWLAN operation.
You also need to have the laptop "set up" to the master workstation, and the WLAN configured to handle braodcast wireless frame, but I am presuming you have already done that side of things.
    Cheers,
    Bill
