Want to pull data from multiple sheets by lookup (I think...)

Hello All,
I have been tasked with determining benefits which some employees are entitled to receive, however, the eligibility data comes from different sheets. I'd like to request help in automate data collection from several sheets within the spreadsheet to create a final top level data sheet. Here are the steps I'm trying to automate in some fashion:
Each employee has an employee number. On the top sheet, each employee is listed by number. I need to search each employee's number on a lower sheet which lists their number and 2011 earnings in a row. Rinse and repeat for 2012 earnings, which are on a third sheet in a row. Rinse and repeat for address data on yet another sheet in a row.
I am no spreadhseet wizard, hardly even a novice. Is there a tutorial or explanation which will help me to automate searching for a cell with the employee number and retrieving data from other cells within that row?
If this were a couple of hundred employees, I would probably slog it out and cut and paste until my fingers bleed. But this time it is 4000 people, so I really could use a hand trying to automate this clunker a bit. Otherwise, I will never see daylight again, being chained to my desk in a windowless room (and missing the deadline, too.)

It was actually simple, though finding the information was difficult because I lacked the correct terminology.
Essentially, the [LOOKUP] function allows you to select a field and one sheet, search for it on another sheet, and when it finds a match, you can select which cell within the row from which to pull data. So, in my case, I had employee numbers on each sheet. Select the employee number, then head to the sheet you're searching and select a column to look within, then select the data you want when there is a match. Easy peasy!
There are tons of free videos on the subject, so I won't bore everyone with my exact method and cell references- just search for "lookup function in numbers (or excel)" and you'll receive far better instruction than I can provide.

    Hi Shailendra,
    Your requirement is a huge activity with multiple tasks which can be done in multiple ways.
    Some basic points:
    1. You can read data from your Third party application using
    a. Native SQL or
    b. a middleware as PI or
    c. using connectors based on the platform of the Third party application (VB, .NET, etc.)
    2. Data can be sent to portal using
    a. Middleware as PI or
    b. Creating RFC's
    c. BAPI's.

    Hey,I have an issue with the WEBI reporting.I have a data source that has multiple columns say ( month1, month2, month3, month4,.....month 12, month 13, ....month24) with the sales data for each month.Now say I call the month 1 to month 12 as "current year", and call month 13 - month 24 as "previous year".I want to put a prompt in the report which allows  me to select between "current year" and "previous year".Based on the prompt value we get a graph of the sales vs month ....as in if we select  "current year", then we get a graph of the sales Vs time( remember that the sales data for each month is in a different column.)and if we select  "previous year" then we get a graph of the sales Vs time for previous year..( sales vs time for Month 13, month 14, month 15....month 24).I am not able to pull data from multiple columns into a single object that I can use to populate the graphs.Any help on the same will be appreciated .

    I want to display data from multiple document libraries into one list view webpart(custom i have created)

    I need to pull some news stories located in a list on a separate sharepoint site on a separate server. I will also be filtering the stories pulled using a custom column on the list on the source site. Can anyone tell me what would need to configure

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you want to pull data from a second SharePoint site that is on a different server.
    If the two servers are in the same domain, you can enter the site url in the brower directly.
    If the two servers are in the different domains, you need to create a trust between the domains.

  • Generic datasource by function module to fetch data from multiple tables?

    I'm writing a function module to fetch price, for generic datasource.
    At first, extract test is OK. But InfoPackage never stop  when loading data to PSA in BW.
    And I find the example codes:

    I have a requirement in which I want to load data from 13 tables to 13 respective sheets of single excel file using SSIS.

    In your case you need to use loop to iterate through tables
    First get list of tables in a object variable created in SSIS using INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES view
    Then add a for each loop based on ADO.NET variable enumerator to iterate through tables and inside loop follow method as in the above link to create the sheet first and populate it.

  • Multiple BW Systems pulling data from one R/3

    Does SAP recommend multiple SAP-BW systems to pull data from the same R/3 system?
    If so then how does delta get get handled in such a scenario?

    I have a similar question.We currently have one R3 system connected to one BW system.
    Now, we have to connect another BW system and start extracting data for 2LIS_03_BF and 2LIS_03_BX.
    The delta loads are already happening for the existing BW system for these 2 datasources.
    I intend to follow the following steps :
    1) Lock all Material postings
    2) Transfer data from existing Extraction queue and then the Delta Queue for the 2 Datasources
    3) Delete SetUp tables
    4) Fill SetUp tables (MCNB and OLI1BW)
    5) Initialize Delta in new BW source system
    6) Unlock Material postings
    a) If I don't run the job for emptying the extraction queue, will ther be duplicate entries in the new BW system whenI run delta after Init? Which leads me to my second question, when data is transferred from extraction queue to delta queue, is it done for each target system?
    b) Can this whole process disturb the existing delta flow in the existing BW system.

    Is the error happening when the cell value is #NULL or #NA only?
    Sometimes these errors occur because of an ActiveX object mismatch. The version of the ActiveX object might have changed or been updated since the VI was created. The VI tries to use an earlier, incompatible version of the ActiveX object.
    To solve the problem, you need to link automation refnum terminal to the correct ActiveX object. To do so, right-click an automation refnum terminal and choose Select ActiveX Class»Browse from the shortcut menu. From the Type Library pull-down menu, select the latest version of the library you want to use, such as Microsoft Excel Object Library. In the Objects list, select an ActiveX object, and click the OK button. Link ea
    ch automation refnum terminal in the VI and its subVIs until the run arrow is not broken. Also, you might have to replace some or all of the Invoke Nodes and Property Nodes for the ActiveX objects.
    Also, I came across this Knowledgebase. The error number is slightly different but it is always good to check it out and make sure it is not your case.

  • Selecting data from Multiple Partitions in a single select stmt.

    Hi all,
    My Database is very large & my tables are partitioned.
    My question is:
    1) If my data is spread across multiple partitions, is there any way to select data from multiple partitions in a single query?
    If we dont mention partition name also it works fine, but perofmance wise it will be very slow. (Using EXPLAIN PLAN)
    (Note:I dont want to make use of Union concept, i want to do it in a single select statement)
    For ex:
    qry1.sql:
    select empno from emp_trans partition (P012000)
    This above query(qry1.sql) will work fine.
    qry2.sql:
    select empno from emp_trans partition (P012000,P022000)
    The above query(qry2.sql) will return will return the following error:
    ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended
    If anybody has any solution for this, pls mail me immediately.

    All my queries are dynamically generated. All my tables are also indexed partition wise based on date field. My question is, if i want to mention multiple partition names at the time of generating my query(select), then with parformance will be good. I have refered some books, inthat what they say is to use UNION concept, i dont want to use that, instead i want in a single select statement.

    I have to upload the data from an excel sheet present in the local system(not on the server) to the table using webdynpro.
    i donot want to upload the excel file
    if it is necessary to upload the file then it should be on temporary basis and it should be deleted automatically.
    i can get the data from excel sheet which is present in the km using HSSF api but how to do the same if it is in local system?
