I have a tree which is acting as a menu and by deafult which nodes are collapsed. Now what I need is I want to select a tree node(which node value or node label is known) by clicking a button. Pls help me. Bye.

Hi there,
Given a TreePath object, I need to know how to programmatically select a tree node on a JTree.
Here's the situation:
I have a simple text editor project which has a JTree on its interface representing the local file system. The program has a SaveAs dialog box which also has a duplicate JTree as the one on the main interface (directories only). As the user selects the directory in which they wish to save the open file in the SaveAs dialog box, I need somehow to programmatically cause the JTree on the main interface to correspondingly select the same directory. How is this done?
The whole point of this is so that I can then add a new leaf node to the tree at the specified directory location. I've tried simply setting the jTree1.setSelectionPath(...) method and even tried to call the valueChanged(...) method of the TreeSelectionListener object as you can see from the code snippet below, but none of these approaches have been successful.

Yes, I've tried setSelectionPath(TreePath path) numerous times, but it does nothing to select the node on the tree! You can see from the code I submitted that it is there commented out.
Ordinarily, when you click on a node on the tree it becomes the "active" node, evident because it becomes highlighted. But when I use setSelectionPath(TreePath path) method, giving it the path it needs, the node on the tree doesn't become the "active" node, therefore, not selected! Furthermore and subsequently, the rest of the code in the method createLeafNode() doesn't add a new node to the tree in the location specified by the TreePath object!
If you have used setSelectionPath(TreePath path) before successfully I would be interested in seeing a small sample program demonstrating its use. It would have to prove to me that you can select a node in the tree without physically clicking on any node in the tree with the mouse cursor, and add a new child node to that selected node.
I submit to you a small test program I put together that demonstrates the "typical setup". It requires the user to physically click on a node of the tree, then click on a button that adds a new node in the location of the selected node. If you can alter this program demonstrating that you can add a new node to the tree without my having to click on any node of the tree with my cursor, then I'll assign you the Duke Dollars and be forever humbled by your programming prowess.
Thanks for keeping on top of this thread as I've tried everything I can think of to try and make my program work. If you need to ask any questions please ask away. Perhaps there is something about my program that I've not explained yet that you're not aware of that I should have included. At this point I can't see the forest for the trees.

Start Editing an Tree-Node programmatically

Hello there!
I have a JTree which the user can edit by clicking on the nodes three times. This I did setting "tree.setEditable(true);". Now i want a selected node to switch to editing-mode when the user clicks on a menu.
So how can I programmatically start editing?

How to highlight a tree node programmatically

Problem

Just like a typical management software, I have a navigation tree presenting a list of objects (let's say toasters) on the left panel. The content panel on the right side presents the details of a toaster, when the user selects the toaster on the navigation tree. On the toaster details panel, I would like to have a hyper link referring to another toaster - associated to the selected toaster. On clicking on the hyperlink, I would like to display the details of the associated toaster and the navigation tree node for the associated toaster being highlighted.
For example, BUI presents the following now:

toaster1 is selected on the navigation tree. The contents panel displays Toaster 1 details, which has a hyper link for toaster3.

I got some tips from this forum (cannot find thread at the moment) and implemented the treeHandler.selectedToaster method as follows:

This seems to work most of times except when I refresh the contents details panel using partial page rendering.
I get NullPointerException on the call to rowKeySet.removeAll().
Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.model.RowKeySetTreeImpl._selectAll(RowKeySetTreeImpl.java:459)
at org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.model.RowKeySetTreeImpl.removeAll(RowKeySetTreeImpl.java:146)
In my observation, this NPE happens when rowKeySet.size() returns 1 but rowKeySet.iterator() does not return any entries.
I suspect this is a bug on RowKeySetTreeImpl but not sure.
Help Need
=======
1. What is the reasonably right way to highlight the tree node for my problem?
2. If my trial is one way to do it, how can I get around the NPE? I cannot change ADF Rich Client library at this point.
Any help/suggestion/advise would be appreciated.

WD ABAP: selecting a tree node from program and scroll to it

I am using a tree in Web Dynpro ABAP. I would like to select/highlight one node from the coding, without user interaction. Is it possible? I couldn't find any (obvious) way so far...
If it is possible, then let us go a little bit further. Suppose, that the tree grew so big, that cannot fit in the container. Suppose, that you can scroll the tree up/down to see all the nodes. Now, if you mark one tree node from the coding, is it possible somehow, that you scroll the tree automatically, so that the selected node is visible?
I am interested in any solutions within WD ABAP.
If you can only answer one of the questions, that is also appreciated!

thanks for the advice, it works, I have already tried it. The tree node in the lead selection appears highlighted.
The scrolling doesn't work, though. I have tried to put the tree in a scroll container, and I have also tried it without (relying on the browser to scroll). Neither of them worked, it doesn't scroll to the selected node, it remains offscreen. Can you think of a way, to bring it automatically within the visible range? Ideas, anyone?
Actually we would like to implement a search function in the tree, and show the result within the tree (highlight the node, expand, if necessary, and bring it on the screen, if off-screen)
A negative answer is good enough for me, so that I know, that I can stop looking for a solution. Thanks in advance.

The above lines are showing that when we select the node it is invoking "demo-test.jsp". Whether it is possible to select multiple nodes similar to JTree(Swing) functionality?

I am sorry, I cannot help in another way than looking at the documentation, because I have currently no JDK available here. If expandPath(...) doesn't work, you can try to get all the nodes of that path and expand them from the root node downwards, perhaps that will work.

gets the "Label" of the tree node not the value of the selected nodei tried both but nothing retrieved...!
i thought that the value is the serial of the node and the lable is the text displayed on the tree node no ?

just query the master table and the detail table will automatically be filter through the relationship?i did and it works filtering through the company_id, But what i wanna do is 2 filter the data displayed in the two block Master-Detail according 2 the selection of the tree

JTree - Sometimes tree node is not selected, while clicking it using mouse

I'm sure that it is a very rare scenario.But ,sometimes i couldnt select a tree node on mouse click.It happens very rarely and simulating the behaviour is not possible.If anyone have gone thru this,plz repond.

did you try debug with a breakPoint on mouseListener->mouseClick event, and see if the selectionModel changes?

Programatically select a different tree node.

I have constructed the tree using ChildPropertyTreeModel. How do I programatically select another node in the tree? Also, after programatically selecting the tree node, does the model get reflected so that model.getRowKey() returns the newly selected node?

In order to programatically select another node in the tree, you can use the following:
tree.getSelectedRowKeys().clear();
tree.getSelectedRowKeys().add( newKey );In order to have the tree point at the newly selected node, use the following:
tree.setRowKey( newKey );If you do this tree.getRowKey() will point to the new one. If you don't do this I'm pretty sure tree.getRowKey() will just point at whatever it was pointing at before. Also it's important when you make changes like this to refresh the content of the tree, which can be done using RequestContext.getCurrentInstance().addPartialTarget( tree ).

Let us begin our discussion with the Tree Component.
Tree Component
You can drag the Tree component from the Palette's Basic category to the Visual Designer to create a hierarchical tree structure with nodes that can be expanded and collapsed, like the nodes in the Outline window. When the user clicks a node, the row will be highlighted. A tree is often used as a navigation mechanism.
A tree contains Tree Node components, which act like hyperlinks. You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page. You set Tree Node properties in the Tree Node Component Properties window.
* If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages.
* Events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
Initially when you drop a tree on a page, it has one root node labeled Tree and one subnode labeled Tree Node 1. You can add more nodes by dragging them to the tree and dropping them either on the root node to create top level nodes or on existing nodes to create subnodes of those nodes. You can also right-click the Tree or any Tree Node and choose Add Tree Node to add a subnode to the node.
Additionally, you can work with the component in the Outline window, where the component and its child components are available as nodes. You can move a node from level to level easily in the Outline window, so you might want to work there if you are rearranging nodes. You can also add and delete tree nodes in the Outline window, just as in the Visual Designer.
The Tree component has properties that, among other things, enable you change the root node's displayed text, change the appearance of the text, specify if expanding or collapsing a node requires a trip to the server, and specify whether node selection should automatically open or close the tree. To set the Tree's properties, select the Tree component in your page and use the Tree Component Properties window.

Tree Node Component

- Note: If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages. In addition, events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
* If you select the image in the Tree Node, you can see that its icon property is set to TREE_DOCUMENT. If you right-click the image on the page and choose Set Image, you can either change the icon to another one or choose your own image in the Image Customizer dialog box. For more information on working with an image in a tree node, see Image component.
- Note: The image used in a tree node works best if it is 16x16 or smaller. Larger images can work, but might appear overlapped in the Visual Designer. You can right-click the component and choose Preview in Browser feature to check the appearance of the images.

One challenge I had experience was to make the tree
always expanded on all pages (I placed my tree menu
in a page fragment so I can just import it in my
pages).Did you solve this problem. It would be interesting to know what you did.
To expand a node you call setExpanded on the node. Here is some code from a tutorial that a coworker of mine is working on.
In the prerender method:

It would also be great if I can set the tree
readonly where the user cannot toggle the expand
property of the tree (hope this can be added to the

How to get Value of tree node without Reload Page

i worked with apex 4.2 and i created Tree and tabular form to retrieve the date according the value of tree select node the code of tree something like this

and i put Selected Node Page Item: P40_SELECTED_NODE . the tree worked good and retrieve the data into tabular form according to tree node value
my Question :
1- i want to retrieve the data without submit the page where each time i select value from tree make page reload to update the tabular form with new value ,there is any way to pass the value of tree node to P40_SELECTED_NODE item and refresh tabular form without page reload .
2- i want when selected from tree run page process according to value of tree node i tray to create Dynamic action with *(jquery selector : div.tree li>a)* but the Value of node incorrect.

JSF Tree Node -Removing Green Patch

Dear Everyone, Anyone, Someone
I want to remove the green patch from the jsf tree component, it appears whenever we select the tree node, if we have given link from treenode, Can anyone suggest me some way.

want to remove the green patch from the jsf tree componentas u said ,, it is COMPONENET so this is a pre-made creator component that u cant chnage its attributes ,,
instead u can extract Theam.jar file and change the icons ,, u i didnt do it before ,, but u may be find what u want there,
