WAP551 stops passing DHCP

Hello
I have 4 WAP551s at one of our sites, and I have discovered a problem whereby they stop distributing/passing through DHCP addresses to clients. This happens roughly every 2 days, at which point I simply reboot them all and magically the clients get addresses again and everything is OK for another couple of days.
I don't think it's the DHCP server (Win 2012 R2) since it still gives out addresses on wired clients when this problem occurs.
I have upgraded them all to the latest firmware and tried running them in a cluster (single point setup mode) and separately with the same SSID. Problem occurs in both modes.
If I give my wireless interface a static IP, I get full network access, so I don't think there's any routing/switch config issues.
Any ideas please? They're under warranty but I have no Cisco technical support contract. I could try get them all replaced but it seems unlikely to be a hardware fault with all 4.

Sadly this issue is not resolved. I am on site today and could not get an IP address when trying to connect to the wireless network. This was affecting 2 of the 4 WAPs on the site. The one I normally have the issue with is working OK.
I then plugged directly in to the LAN but still couldn't get an IP address so I suspected a DHCP server issue or rogue DHCP server on the LAN. I stopped the DHCP service on my server and did not get an IP address, so I don't think there is a rogue.
I started the DHCP service and still couldn't get an IP address (wireless or wired). I then opened the DHCP console and noticed the server address was '169.254.x.x'! Never seen this before, so did a quick bit of research and this led me to disable all the NICs not in use on the server and restart the service again. This seemed to fix the issue and the server name came back up in DHCP instead of the 169 address.
I could then get IP addresses on the wired connection only.
I could not get IP addresses on wireless until I restarted (pulled the plug) the 2 WAPs.
Really puzzled with this one but it seems as though everything could be a knock-on effect of an issue with the DHCP server.
Anyone come across similar behaviour before? Although I don't suspect an issue with the switches, I will post the config here anyway (please see attachment). Maybe someone will spot something strange in there.
You will see the interface that the DHCP server and WAPs are connected to in the interface descriptions.

  • Switch port in dot1x multi-auth mode stops passing traffic

    Dear All,
I am experiencing a problem on a Catalyst 4510 (cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-53.SG.bin) with 802.1x configured. Client PCs are connected via a mini desktop switch to a Cat 4510 switched port in multi-auth mode. The configuration of the port follows:
    interface GigabitEthernet2/34
    switchport mode access
ip arp inspection limit rate 30
    authentication host-mode multi-auth
    authentication port-control auto
    authentication periodic
    authentication timer reauthenticate server
    dot1x pae authenticator
    dot1x timeout tx-period 5
    dot1x max-reauth-req 6
    spanning-tree portfast
    ip verify source vlan dhcp-snooping
    end
It happens from time to time that the Cat 4510 port stops passing traffic. Reconnecting the mini switch recovers the communication. Client PCs connected to the mini switch seem to be authorized at the moment when the problem occures. The RADIUS Termination-Action attribute is set to RADIUS-Request. The problem is not present if "authentication periodic" is disabled.
Did anyone experience a simmilar problem? Any advice?
    Thanks.
    Mirek

  • E1200 stops serving DHCP all of a Sudden (affects both wireless and wired)

     Greetings All,
I have a 2 year E1200 router that has given me very good service uptil now. Now, it appears to suddenly stop serving DHCP at least once daily. This results in a situation where all my devices (3 over wifi, 2 directly wired) suddenly all cannot talk over the local LAN or reach the Internet (WAN).
This issue started about a week ago when the build I live in had an issue with its network - they won't give a full explanation of what the exact issue was but somehow some media gateways were requesting MAC addresses (ARP?) from every single device in the building constantly. Since then, my E1200 gets into a funk daily, typically at night when it is idle, though I have seen it get into this condition during the day when I am actively connected to a VPN at work.
My network consists of 3-4 wireless devices, 2 wired devices connecting to the E1200 (wpa2-psk) and the E1200 is connected to a Digital-to-Analog GW that converts fiber input to 100Mb Ethernet. I have the latest firmware on it.
I realize this is very scant information to begin a hypothesis so any suggestions on whether this is a know problem and if so, how to rectify it? If it is not known, I'm all ears on how to debug it.
So far, my work around has been to reboot the E1200 and that clears up the issue but clearly that is not a good long term solution.
    Thanks,
    H

    Hi,
If you have time, you can try to perform a hardware reset on your E1200 then reconfigure it back manually. Since you are running on the latest firmware, there's no need to reflash that. You might still have the same issue if there's really a problem from your gateway.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • 1 port on 2960 wont pass DHCP onto client

I am stumped on this one.  I have a PoE 2960 that connects a few phone/workstation pairs to the network.  All of them work correctly except for one...
For example, the good / working configs look like this on the interfaces:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/45
     description _X211
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 52
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     queue-set 2
     priority-queue out
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip trust
     spanning-tree portfast
    And.....
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/38
     description _X208
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 52
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     queue-set 2
     priority-queue out
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip trust
     spanning-tree portfast
The port that is not passing DHCP info onto the client is this one:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/12
     description _X209
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 52
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     queue-set 2
     priority-queue out
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip trust
     spanning-tree portfast
What am I missing?  This worked fine until last week when this site was connected via a trunk to another site (they used to connect via IPSec tunnel, but now have a dedicate link).  As far as I can tell, that should not have effected this...and if it did effect this why didn't it effect any of the other ports?

    I removed the line:
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
From that port, but I am still not receiving DHCP info on the client.
As a workaround I have set a static IP on the phone.  I am still unable to get the workstation (in this case a laptop) to get on the network even setting a static address.  I put it onto the wireless for now to get them up and running.
This is quite odd.  Any idea what I could try to adjust on that port?

  • 5505 stops passing traffic with 9.1.3

I have a 5505 setup in my home office.  It generally works well but I noticed when I upgraded it to 9.1.2.8 it would stop passing traffic after a few days.  I figured this was just the interim release blues and waited until 9.1.3 came out.  However, with 9.1.3 the problem is even worse.  I'm actually not exactly sure what's going on.  Here's what I've noticed:
I get a lot of DNS connections with the "h" flag (H.225 traffic) set.  This seems like it might have some relation to the problem:
    UDP outside  216.218.130.2:53 inside  192.168.234.146:50705, idle 0:00:18, bytes 534, flags h
I also get these in 9.1.2 (which works fine), but far fewer.  When traffic stops passing on my ASA, I notice that I have tons of these connections in 9.1.3.
When traffic stops passing, the ASA itself can no longer get to the Internet.  I can't ping my Comcast router (actually in my office, L2 adjacent to ASA).  I also have some SLA probes going to the Internet which fail.  If I do a clear conn all, then everything starts working again for a while.  The BTF (dynamic-filter) feature seems to make it worse.  If I remove it (remove dynamic-filter-snoop part) then it takes a lot longer before it stops passing traffic:
    policy-map global_policy
    class inspection_default
      inspect dns dns-ipm dynamic-filter-snoop
What's really strange, is even if I remove all service-policy commands, I still get connections with the "h" flag.  I don't believe that should be possible so perhaps a bug?
    Ideas?

  • Logic stops passing audio after a few hours

    Here's the setup:
    iMac G5 1.9Ghz, MOTU 828mkII, Logic Express, 10.4.4 (i think)
I am using logic to process audio for a theatrical production. I am using two channels in and two out. The problem is, when a track has been record enabled for a long time (several hours to a day or so) it stops passing audio. Ideally I would like to just leave it as is for the run of the show (about a week) but currently the tracks need to be rearmed before each show. Is this a normal limitation in logic?
The only thing I can think of is that it might be caused when the screen goes to sleep (although it doesn't happen every time, only when I come in the next day.) I do not want to leave the screen on for a week straight if I don't have to. Any ideas?

If you've had it less tha 90 days, contact Apple support. If you have Applecare, you can talk with them for up to 3 years, but hopefully that's not needed. In the US call 800-275-2273.

  • Wifi stops passing traffic on original ipad and ipad 2 running ios 5.0.1

I actually just started having this issue with my Original iPad and my iPad 2. From what I'm seeing is not a loss of signal but a loss of connectivity, they just stop passing traffic. When this is happening its sometimes to both iPads but not always. And both our iPhones do not experience the issue while the iPads are having the problem. (all devices running ios 5 and connected to the same AP). Wired devices also do not have any issues wile this is happening to the iPads.
What I have tried so far:
    1. Changing Channels on the AP to a less congested channel (didn't help)
    2. Shutting wifi off on ipad, then turning back on, solves issue for a random amount of time, then it happens again
    3. Rebooting ipad, sometimes does not help at all until you turn off the radio on the ipad, then back on
I was ready to get a new router/ap but after reading some other comments, this may be an issue with other people.

I have exactly the same issue on my brand new iPad2 running iOS5.
I have also changed the channel, tried different settings, etc. to no avail.
It tends to happen when streaming video - Skype, YouTube. Also during movie downloads.
My pc does not have this problem.
We're you able to find a reliable solution?
    Thanks!

  • Bridged router doesn't pass DHCP request

(I've posted this request on other networking boards. Hoping the Macmaniacs can help!)
I have three wireless routers configured using the same SSID. Two of the routers are bridged off the main one and act simply as wireless access points. This allows me to wander around my house and always get a strong signal. The bridged routers have their DHCP turned off. I've found that when I try to access the LAN from my laptop after it's gone to asleep, I occasionally end up with just a self-appointed IP address and no amount of turning off Airport or renewing the DHCP gets me a new address. I have to turn off Airport, go to a spot where I'm fairly close to the main router, get an IP address assigned, and then I'm fine until it refreshes the DHCP, at which point I'm hosed. Anything I should look out for in terms of router settings? As it turns out, all three routers are from different manufacturers: D-Link, NetGear, and ActionTec (the latter being the default device you get with Verizon FIOS and it's the "main" router in my network). I've tried manually designating just the address; fully configuring every option manually (subnet mask, router, etc.); just leaving it with auto DHCP--no change. I've also even made the IP address static from the router. Any thoughts?

The resolution involved my turning off the MAC-level security that I had set up in every router. When I changed their operation to WAS (bridged mode), I had assumed that the security would continue to function by passing through eligible devices. This was not the case. I turned off the security at the nodes and let the main router handle security.

  • WET200-WET200 Bridge not passing DHCP Requests

    Hi,
We have setup a bridge between two of our offices using two WET200's in adhoc mode.   Everything is connected fine and the signal strengh is good.   All traffic pass's over the bridge correctly but DHCP requsts/replys seem to be failing to traverse the bridge.    Our DHCP server is hosted on site A and the computers on site B fail to obtain thiers IP's from the dhcp over the bridge requiring us to use static IP's.
    Firmware is currently the latest.
Has anyone managed to resolve this issue?
    Thanks
    Nick

    Mr. Muir,
What version of firmware are you running on the wet200's?
If the latest, have you downloaded a fresh copy of the 2.0.3.2 and backed up your configs/ reflashed the firmware/ factory reset the device/ and reloaded the configuration.
I would try this on both devices and let us know if your still having the same issue.

  • Expander passes DHCP info but no internet

I have a SMC 7908VOWBR router and 2 WRE54G range expanders (a v.1 and a v.3). The v.1 has been working fine with the router but has a different SSID than the router. The new v.3 must have the same SSID as the router so that's what I did. I use WEP
The router shows both expanders as connected through WDS. Both the V.1 and the v.3 show two blue connection lights but when I connect any of the laptops through the V.3, I get an ip address and a gateway (router IP) from the router but that's it.
After the ip address has been obtained, I can ping as far as the v.3 (10.0.0.12) but not further. When I connect straight to the router (10.0.0.3) I can't ping the V.3 and vice versa. There must be a connection because I get an ip address through the V.3
The V.1 does everything fine and the only difference is a different SSID.
Any ideas? It frustrates the hell out of me.

Thanks for the advice but I flashed the firmware (even before starting the thread) without result. I do have an update on my first message. It is different than what I initially thought.
When I plug the expander in the power socket, everything works fine for about 5 minutes (DHCP, ping to router, internet and all)
After this time, the connection between the router and the expander stops. A ping to the router fails and DHCP doesn't work anymore. The expander still shows 2 blue lights and the router show the expander as connected through WDS but nothing seems to work.
Basically, the connection between router and expander lasts for about 5 minutes.

  • WLC not pass DHCP past bridged units

I have a WLC 5508 with LWAP 1242 with wireless bridges connected to the APs I cannot get DHCP to pass through the bridge to the PC connected to the bridge.

Some third-party WGBs need  to operate in non-DHCP relay mode. If problems occur with the DHCP  assignment on devices behind the non-Cisco WGB, use the following  commands:
    –config dhcp proxy disable
–config dhcp proxy disable bootp-broadcast disable
The default state is DHCP proxy enabled.
the above commands introduced from 7.0.116.0.

  • Random Services Stopping (DNS, DHCP, SMB, etc)

    Hello,
I have been trying to wrap my head around this, but we have a single Xserve 10.5.4 and it runs the the majority of the services here in the office, like DNS, DHCP, AFP, SMB, Web, Software Update, Open Directory, and more. The problem I've been having is that over the weekend some of these services just stopped. Not all of them, and in the most recent case SMB, DNS, DHCP, and Software Updates stopped. The server was up the whole weekend, people were in the office saturday working just fine but not on sunday. So where do I even begin to look on this? Some other things you might want to know is that we are dealing with an internal packet loss issue due to cabling, we have been troubleshooting out various bad lines in this office and preparing to have these lines repaired, but to be honest, I can't see how packet loss would cause services to stop on this machine. What do you think?

This is what shows up in the log. I have not seen this in the log before as I have been digging through it to troubleshoot the issues here (I'm new to this company and have been trying to wrap my head around their issues)
I checked into where that MAC address belongs and I have found that it belongs to the server itself, which seems strange that it's reporting that the duplicate IP is being sent from the server that's reporting this error, it shouldn't be reporting itself as a duplicate correct? I feel like I'm reading that wrong, but in looking there are no DNS errors like the ones you mentioned. I turned up the log reporting for DNS to be more verbose, hopefully that will turn something up.
Thank you for responding so quickly.

  • Passing DHCP through L2tpv3

    Dear,
we have two routers CISCO881-K9 and we have established l2tpv3 pesuduwire between two routers
P2P Ip addrsses done over the WAN port f4 while the xconnect over the LAN port f0.
Although the l2tp established but we are unable to pass the DHCP from router A to router- B.
    any help.

use ip helper-address on the interface of the stations needing to use dhcp.

  • Access Points Not Passing DHCP to Clients

I have a 50+ access point deployment, all in a single VLAN (DMZ), across a dozen buildings. We recently experienced wierdness of the following sort. Clients would request DHCP request, DHCP servers would forward requests, which would not get passed from the AP to the clients. We could verify that DHCP and all other parts of network were fine. I had to cold boot each AP to clear the condition. I could find nothing in this mix of 350s and 1200s or the spectrum that would indicate an obvious attack... Couldn't find where to start looking for any tables that were full, or any real place to look for some other reason for this. Yet after cold boot- all is well.
Any thoughts, in case it happens again?

    Hi Guys,
I am having a similar problem to you, however i can get authentciated via LEAP, but dont seem to get an IP adderss from the radius server.
My setup is very simple as i am at the design stage. We have a Cisco AP 1200 (2.4 and 5.0 GHZ) and we are using FUNK steel belted RADIUS server. LEAP authentication works fine and i can see the association on the AP. The wirless client (HP W400 integrated Wireless cards) shows that it has been authenticated successfully too. However no IP is being received. We have a IP Pool configured on the SBR server and the SBR server shows that it has issued an IP address.
Next step was to place a sniffer and capture the packets. The capture shows the radius requests and challenges and in the very last ACCEPT packet we can see that the SBR has issued an IP address.
I am confused as i cant see anything on AP that would block the IP address. There are also a few attributes showing as "unknown" in the sniffer trace, so im not too sure wgats going on.
Can anyone help. The IOS is 12.2 (13) JA
