Expander passes DHCP info but no internet

I have a SMC 7908VOWBR router and 2 WRE54G range expanders (a v.1 and a v.3). The v.1 has been working fine with the router but has a different SSID than the router. The new v.3 must have the same SSID as the router so that's what I did. I use WEP
The router shows both expanders as connected through WDS. Both the V.1 and the v.3 show two blue connection lights but when I connect any of the laptops through the V.3, I get an ip address and a gateway (router IP) from the router but that's it.
After the ip address has been obtained, I can ping as far as the v.3 (10.0.0.12) but not further. When I connect straight to the router (10.0.0.3) I can't ping the V.3 and vice versa. There must be a connection because I get an ip address through the V.3
The V.1 does everything fine and the only difference is a different SSID.
Any ideas? It frustrates the hell out of me.

Thanks for the advice but I flashed the firmware (even before starting the thread) without result. I do have an update on my first message. It is different than what I initially thought.
When I plug the expander in the power socket, everything works fine for about 5 minutes (DHCP, ping to router, internet and all)
After this time, the connection between the router and the expander stops. A ping to the router fails and DHCP doesn't work anymore. The expander still shows 2 blue lights and the router show the expander as connected through WDS but nothing seems to work.
Basically, the connection between router and expander lasts for about 5 minutes.

I am stumped on this one.  I have a PoE 2960 that connects a few phone/workstation pairs to the network.  All of them work correctly except for one...
For example, the good / working configs look like this on the interfaces:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/45
     description _X211
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 52
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     queue-set 2
     priority-queue out
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip trust
     spanning-tree portfast
    And.....
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/38
     description _X208
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 52
     srr-queue bandwidth share 10 10 60 20
     queue-set 2
     priority-queue out
     mls qos trust cos
     auto qos voip trust
     spanning-tree portfast
The port that is not passing DHCP info onto the client is this one:
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/12
     description _X209
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport voice vlan 52

What am I missing?  This worked fine until last week when this site was connected via a trunk to another site (they used to connect via IPSec tunnel, but now have a dedicate link).  As far as I can tell, that should not have effected this...and if it did effect this why didn't it effect any of the other ports?

    I removed the line:
     switchport trunk native vlan 16
From that port, but I am still not receiving DHCP info on the client.
As a workaround I have set a static IP on the phone.  I am still unable to get the workstation (in this case a laptop) to get on the network even setting a static address.  I put it onto the wireless for now to get them up and running.
This is quite odd.  Any idea what I could try to adjust on that port?

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6

  • The wi-fi on my ipod touch is connected but the internett is not working! Help

Soo annoying, it's connected but the internett is not working. I don't know what to type in or what to do, so I need help.

Are you 100% positive you are connected?  Head to Settings - Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to?  What is listed for an IP address?  If it's in the 169.x.x.x range, it means your iPod did not properly receive a valid IP address via DHCP from your modem/router. So the 169.x.x.x address is a self-assigned one.
This can usually be resolved by a reboot of your router.  You can do this by unplugging it for about 30 seconds.  After it powers back up, try reconnecting it.  It wouldn't hurt to try a reset of your iPod as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • JetPack 4G LTE connects but "no internet access" message

    Would appreciate any help.
My JetPack 4G LTE mi-fi connects to the internet (3G or 4G) and shows that my devices are connected to it.  However, I cannot get on the internet.
    1)  I have three different devices - two laptops and a smartphone.  All three have the same problem.
    2)  I have a Sprint Mi-Fi that I use for a different business.  All three devices can and do connect to that device and work properly on the internet during the same sessions in which they cannot connect on the Verizon JetPack.  So it is not the devices I am trying to connect with.
    3)  The exact same thing has happened several times over the course of about 4 days and in two cities and two states - all three devices unable to connect via JetPack but connect fine through Sprint Mi-Fi.  So it is not location or local network issue.
    4)  LED display on JetPack, in all instances, show a strong 3G or 4G (depending on where I am) signal and also that all three devices are connected.
    5)  Message on laptop wireless area shows connection but says "no internet access".
    6)  Under the wireless status or details, it says (on the list of info):  "IPv4  no internet access" and "IPv6 no internet access".
    7)  I have done a battery pull with no effect.
    8)  I have done a factory reset (power up, remove cover, press reset button until long green light and short green light) with no effect.
    9)  After both battery pull and factory reset, I still show connected to 3G, all three devices connected, no internet access, and all three devices then work on the Sprint mi-fi.
    10)  Symptoms started about 4 days ago and have not changed since - it is not a come-and-go problem.  It is not working at any time.
I am hoping to gosh to avoid a long ordeal with tech-support at Verizon.  This is a company-issued device, so I could ask my company to take it up with Verizon, but I work remotely and access to the IT department is not that simple either.  thought I would see if I am missing something simple.  I hope I've given enough info for someone brighter than myself here can spot something I could do.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for your response.  I am having trouble logging back into this site to respond (I never created a User ID and don't know my cell phone number as it is a mi-fi and not a cell).  I reregisterd for the forums only under a slight ID variation and will continue to do so for this dialog.  Thanks very much.
The back of the Jetpack says SSID: "MiFI4620L Jetpack 89B4".   I am currently using the device (since the problems began last week) in zip codes 49504 and 49503 - same symptom both places.
    Thanks again.

I purchased a used 2008 iMac. And although the previous owner said he deleted all of his information, his iCloud account is still the primary. I don't have a clue about what to do about it. I signed him out and logged in with my info, but still no go. Is there any way to eliminate his iCloud account and make mine the primary without rebooting it back to factory settings? There was an update, I believe, that I couldn't install because i didn't have his password that is what made me aware that his acct. was still active. I don't know what to do. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Before buying a second-hand computer, you should have run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, whichever is applicable.
The first thing to do after buying the computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You—not the original owner—must do that. Changes made by Apple over the years have made this seemingly straightforward task very complex.
How you go about it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
It's unsafe, and may be unlawful, to use a computer with software installed by a previous owner.
    1. If you don't own another Mac
    a. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller—not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine is very old and has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
    b. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for a MacBook Air. You should have received the media from the original owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To start up from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then restart the computer and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
    c. If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should start up in Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    d. Some 2010-2011 models shipped with OS X 10.6 and received a firmware update after 10.7 was released, enabling them to use Internet Recovery. If you have one of those models, you can't reinstall 10.6 even from the original media, and Internet Recovery will not work either without the original owner's Apple ID. In that case, contact Apple Support, or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to have the OS installed.
    2. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to prepare a USB device, then start up the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can start from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    3. Partition and install OS X
    a. If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
    b. Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the  Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
    c. An unusual problem may arise if all the following conditions apply:
OS X 10.7 or later was installed by the previous owner
The startup volume was encrypted with FileVault
You're booted in Recovery mode (that is, not from a 10.6 installation disc)
In that case, you won't be able to unlock the volume or partition the drive without the FileVault password. Ask for guidance or see this discussion.
    d. After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
    e. Run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.
    4. Other issues
    a. If the original owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
    b. If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
    c. When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an iCloud account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. The setup limit doesn't apply to Apple ID accounts used for other services, such as the iTunes and Mac App Stores, or iMessage. You can create as many of those accounts as you like.

  • Can connect to skype but not internet, running snow leopard

Moved to new house; was able to connect to internet with firefox first day; after that can get on Skype but not internet. Is it my computer or the wireless router in the house? what should I do?

This is all I could find on the topic, but it doesn't resolve my issue:

  • Not picking up DHCP info from Windows wireless network

    Hey all,
I posted once before and received zero replies, so here's hoping the second time is the charm.
I have a building using HP ProCurve 420A wireless access points. There's a primary SSID that Powerbook users can see properly using Airport. The security is WPA-2 with a public shared key.
The Windows XP and 2000 users can see the network, authenticate and receive DHCP information to access the network.
The Mac users can see the network, "seem" to authenticate (the Aiport utility says it is connected) but never receive DHCP info (the Powerbooks always show 169.x.x.x values, as you'd see in factory defaults). If I play with this and plug a static address into the Powerbooks, they hop on the network through the HP access points. If I remove the static address and try to obtain network info via DHCP, I've had it work exactly once....despite scores of attempts (if it works once we're hopeful we've overlooked something obvious, right?).
The wireless access points are at the most current version firmware and the test Mac I've been using is at OS 10.4.7
Does anyone have experience with this issue, know of a solution or conversely, know if it's an issue that hasn't been succesfully solved?
I respectfully note in advance that folks suggesting "buy Apple wireless access points" won't be helping me much. There are budget constraints to go along with this issue that don't allow replacement of access points en masse.
    Thanks,
    Scott

"I was hopeful this might do it for me...but if I understand the OS X firewall properly, it's only configured in Sharing to allow access through a particular Mac to it's own shared resources for other computers to see and use. Firewall was turned off (in Sharing) on the test Mac I'm using.
Am I misunderstanding this feature? Is there another built-in firewall utility that's more analogous to the Windows XP firewall that actually limits the workstation's connections to all external resources, as opposed to only limiting shared resources to other computers from the machine being configured? If so, I haven't found it."
well id hardly say its analgous to windows firewall utility as thats more liek the dumbed down versio of the firewall you find in the sharing preferences. And yes thats all there is to it from a GUI interface (at least out of the box). Simply turning it on or off here whould disable or enable it and checking/unchecking the various allow options in sharing should add or remove the appropriate rules.
However there is MUCH more to OSX's firewall. Its jsut accessed from the command line via ipfw. This is a full featured software firewall typically found on most *nix distrobutions. if youre interested in it further you can open up terminal and type:
    man ipfw
    youll get an eyeful

  • Have wifi connection but no internet?

I have an Airport Extreme (version 7.6.4) in bridge mode as main network, this is connected via ethernet to an ADSL router (this allocates the ip addresses)
I then have 3 airport express extending teh network to improve the signal in different parts of the house. All the ip addresses are 10.0.0.x.
I have internet connectivity on my iMac (10.8.5)  connected to the wifi network, however my Macbook Pro (also 10.8.5) and all my iOS devices (iphone 4s on iOS 6.1.2 and ipad 2 iOS 7.0.3) whilst having strong wifi connection do not have an internet connection. When I launch AirPort utility on the macbook pro and iOS devices it shows the network but the internet reflects as disconected, whereas on the iMac the internet is connected.
Any ideas what is causing this?

I have an Airport Extreme (version 7.6.4) in bridge mode as main network, this is connected via ethernet to an ADSL router (this allocates the ip addresses)
Since you have a router "upstream" from the AirPort Extreme, the Bridge Mode setting on the AirPort Extreme is the correct setting.
As you know, when the AirPort Extreme is set to "create a wireless network", the AirPort can be setup either in Router Mode or Bridge Mode.
This avoids a situation where you have two routers on the same network, with both of them are trying to provide DHCP and NAT services.  Conflicts would be certain with two routers competing against each other.
I then have 3 airport express extending teh network to improve the signal in different parts of the house. All the ip addresses are 10.0.0.x.
Can you clarify whether the Expresses are "extending" the network wirelessly?  If they are, then they are already in the correct Bridge Mode setting.
Or, are the Expresses "extending" by connecting back to the AriPort Extreme using wired Ethernet connections?
We need to do some more troubleshooting starting with one Express at a time.....but first need to understand how you have the Expresses connecting to the AirPort Extreme.
We assume that each Express is either the A1264 version or the current A1392 version. Is that correct?

  • Configure DHCP Server options for Internet Sharing?

    Good morning, all.
I have a Sprint (Sierra 595U) AirCard internet connection, which I'm sharing over my AirPort (using OS X's built-in Internet Sharing) to several Windows clients in my office. I see that when Sharing is enabled, en1 takes on the address 10.0.2.1 by default, as well as the role of default gateway/router and DHCP server for the Windows clients.
My question is: Can I configure the IP addresses and DHCP options for Internet Sharing to another address/mask scheme?
Just like I changed my home wireless network away from the default 192.168.1.0/24 for security reasons, I'd like to do the same here.
    Thanks and Regards,
    BrooklynWalker

Yes, of course security paranoia can be cultured. like yogurt
    I googled.
    This might help:

but from what I just read, changing away from the default net & mask might be putzy. Some other discussions for you:

  • Airport network connected on full bars but "no internet connection" and missing lock icon!

    this is really frustrating!
I'm using wireless in my house. when i click on my network it connects and it shows perfect connection which is full bars.
on Network Preferences it says that i'm connected to the Airport but when i go to Safari it shows "You are not connected to the Internet" so i click on Network Diagnostic where the 3 network status on top has the green indicator but the ISP, Internet and Server show red and failed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection since I'm able to go online using my sister's computer and also on my iPhone.
There's also usually a Lock icon/symbol next to my network's name but when i'm connected to my network the Lock icon seems to be missing but it still shows full bars connection. I really don't get how it's possible to be connected to a network, but no internet connection, while i can access the internet on other devices.
Please help me out here. I've tried ways like going to library>preferences then put the system configuration into Trash, and going to Network Preferences and removing the Airport service and creating a new one.
and one more thing. all mentioned above are when i clicked on Advanced on network preferences then i clicked on TCP/IP and changed the Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually. When i'm back to using DHCP there's an exclamation point over the airport icon on the top bar and it says no internet connection.

Got my own question answered by a colleague.
He had me create another "Location" in the network pane of System Preferences, then choose it and click Apply. I created a new location which I called 'Airport', chose it and clicked Apply and sure enough, an IP address showed up and all is well.
Justin said it's a network bug in Leopard.

I don't know about Growl as I've never used it. But I'd remove anything that might involve your internet connection. To remove Growl: http://growl.info/documentation/growl-package-removal.php
In my earlier post I asked do you have any Anti Virus software installed?
Do you have access to another computer so you could download another browser, perhaps onto a USB stick and then install it on your Mac just to see if the problem is Safari specific:

  • Passing user info into precompiled flex2 .swf

    Hello all,
Using flex builder to precompile my .swf how do I then pass
client info to the SWF when a user accesses it? I have information
like profile_id and user_id that need to accompany all of my remote

Thanks inlineblue. that is exactly what i was looking for.
Although now am curious if there is any way to pass an object into
the swf. My guess is no...not on the init, but if anyone knows how
    to, that would be great.
I know how to pass objects through remoting, just not on the
init. I could loop over the struct (it is really a named array) and
create name value pairs, but I was hoping to avoid that.
