Warehouse Management pros and cons

Dear WM Gurus,
Can somebody care to please help me in creating my first and ever WM feasibility study for my company? Below are the requirements for which I don't know where to start.
Would somebody answer each inquiries with their own opinion?
1.)Explore the functionality of Warehouse Management in SAP.
2.)Submit a report on the feasibility of implementing WM in Company BSS (pros and cons)
3.)Research on the configurations of these feature thoroughly.
4.)Thorough and proper Documentation on functionality and Feasibility of the above is required.
Hoping that somebody can guide me on this... Thank you.
Best Regards,

  • Window manager - pros and cons

    Hi!
I do like the discussion about the file managers in the forum and just want to start one about window managers.
Which window managers did you try or work with? What do you like or dislike with those window managers?
Which feature is important for you, which "feature" don't you like? And finally: Which one are you using now?
Please, don't write things like "xyz is the best!", we know that everyone has the best wm - for him or her...
It is more interesting to see the reasons behind your decision ;-)
I'll write some of my experiences, too, but I have not enough time at the moment.
    Greetings from good ol' germany,
    Thomas

Murray_B wrote:XFCE:Cons: Well, yes, there are some things I am missing. A menu-editor, display the properties of multiple folders and files in thunar, that only the background of a panel is getting transparent and maybe a nice login manager (slim is no real replacement for kdm/gdm, these ones are just the best.)
1.) A menu editor is supposedly in the next release, and possibly proper transparent panels and xfwm4 window decorations.
    2.) For a transparent xfce4-panel right now you can try the cairo-patch: http://www.cooptel.qc.ca/~pggervais/xfc … tch.tar.gz
You can use the old PKGBUILD from the AUR to build it using the new patch and the new 4.6.1 source: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=22081
Then to change panel colors and transparency levels, edit the patch before you build the xfce4-panel (takes one minute to edit the patch, one minute to build the panel).
change these 4 ALPHAs part of the patch to anything from 0.1 to 0.9 for different transparency levels:
    +#define ALPHA 0.2
and, for different RGBA color change this part:
    cairo_set_source_rgba (cr, r, g, b, ALPHA);
to something like this (makes it a clear black color that is best with ALPHA = 0.7):
    cairo_set_source_rgba (cr, 0, 0, 0, ALPHA);
3.) Slim can be made to look nice, but I prefer starting xfce4 from my inittab with this:
    x:5:once:/bin/su "YOUR_USERNAME" -l -c "/bin/bash --login -c startx >/dev/null 2>&1"
One of the reasons I stick with xfce4 is because I'm on a notebook and it would seem like a waist to install a nice tiling window manager like xmonad. I would really want to use xmonad if I had a nice desktop with a few monitors, and if I used a few more console apps other than nano, vim (learning), mc, mpd + ncmpcpp, rtorrent.
Right now I'm using "terminator" for a tiling console (along with devilspie to embed it into my wallpaper), so all of my console apps can run on my wallpaper, and my gui apps like firefox take up the whole screen.

  • Pros and Cons of Turning CE On or Managment Of Global Employees.

    Hi Guys,
We have a requirement where we have to deal with the employees those holds two jobs, those can be in a different country or within the same country. We have a option to go with concurrent employment or we can go towards the old functionality of managment of global employees concept. My Question here is very specific to what are the pros and cons in both the scenarios. If some one can elaborate it a little or any documentation is available to compare both the plans.
Any answers would be highly appreciated. Thanks
    Regards.

    Hi Hassan,
We are currently working to implement Management of Global Employees (MGE).
    Check out http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/22/e15a287d14f74c853f4bf8ab5fd4b1/frameset.htm and http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/a8/3300b1e299cd4c9fa78c8ad4aab007/frameset.htm
    for details.
Remember, before implementing by activating CCURE GLEMP or CCURE MAINS, you must contact Michael Wulf at SAP via an OSS Note.
MGE is the functionality to handle various assignments between countries for employees so that the employee could be paid and/or have benefits in each country.  It also enables additional infotypes to track the preparation and process of the global assignment.
Concurrent Employment (CE) is designed so that one individual can have multiple assignments within one country, with different pay rates, benefits, etc.  Example is a school administrator who works 40 hours and then at night is an adjunct instructor for the school.  If concurrent pay is activated, that individual could be processed in two different payrolls at different pay dates, but the system knows it is one person for taxes, SSN deductions, etc.
So really CE and MGE are two different functionalities to meet different requirements, but they each utilize the same foundation - the Person ID and an individual having more than one PERNR.

  • What are the Pros and Cons of Using Batch Numbers over Serialization

    Dear SAP Gurus:
Will someone please give me the benefits of using Batch Management over serial numbers in this case scenerio, or vice versa:
Client wants to trace all the components of an assembly in a BOM.  Even the Raw material.  The client sends the material out today and has the vendor assign serial numbers to the individual pieces, the client gives the range of serial numbers to use.  We are looking at using batch numbers to accomplish this and issue one material and batch number to a production order.  Then use MB56 batch where used functionality to view history.  I am wanting to understand the benefits of this.  Please advise and points will be awarded as always.
Also, in this scenerio, can you issue multiple material/batch numbers to one vendor op that has its own production order?

    Yes it is a subcontract.
Example:  This is the solution but need the pros and cons of doing this scenerio
Sheet of metal sent to vendor to make lets say 1800 peices of material number nas5703-01.  All 1800 pieces come back and issued to a production work order using one bacth number for one material item so that batch number can be traced in history in MB56 and a fit up report.

  • Same SID for QA & Prd systems - pros and cons?

    We have the foll systems:
    1. Enterprise Portal 7.0
    2. NWDI 7.0
    3. NW 7.0 (with XECO - Ecommerce)
    4. TREX 7.1
    5. Content Server 6.40
    6. ECC 6.0
Currently the QA and Prd systems have the same SID and system/instance no, although they are on different hosts.
We would like to know what are the long term pros and cons for keeping the QA and Prd SIDs the same for all systems.
We are already making a list, so thought we might as well get more inputs from the community too.
We already have this arrangement for the past 3 months and have not faced any major issues.
    A couple of cons though:
    1. Cannot use solman as it cannot distinguish between the diff servers with same SID
    2. ABAP transports from QA to Prd have to be manually done (cannot use STMS)
    Thanks
    Prasad

    Hi Manoj,
Changing the SID of java systems is a very tedious procedure. Hom sys copy is just a part of the SID change...there are a whole lot of configs to be done after that...the task is eq to a new setup of systems
For once, the efforts put in are huge..you can see there are 5 systems..besides, it will involve coordination from all teams - basis, development, functional, project management.
Here are a few advantages that we know of:
    1. No efforts reqd to change back to original SID
    2. During disaster recovery, we just have to restore the production database on QA and change the hostname, whereas its not so in case of having diff SIDs
    3. For end-users this will be transparent because they will be using the hostname in the URL which is anyways different
We have the same SIDs for the past 3 months and have not seen major issues, but we also would like to know from the long term perspective if there are any risks that we have not foreseen...hence we seek help from the community.
    Hope its clear now
    Thanks for your response

  • Pros and cons of EPM and Classic Application.

    Hi All Experts,
can any one tell me what are the pros and cons if create EPM Application
and pros and cons if we create Classic Planning Application
this is really urgent we have to submit this to our client as soon as possible

    Hi,
The main difference between using of classic and EPMA is I think hidden in the first letter of EPMA. EPMA is for Enterprises where multiple performance management applications are considered applicable. When you have an HFM application, a planning application, a performance scorecard application, a couple of essbase cubes around and lots of reports pulling data from all these, sharing data and metadata becomes crucially important. And no mistake, classic planning is as good as EPMA planning and easier to handle, however, if your company or client is thinking of having a total EPM solution in place, then EPMA is the right choice. However, since you can always convert your classic app to EPMA but you've got only one bullet to fire, it might be wise to stick with classic application until your client/company starts imagining that sort of ambitious goal.

  • Pros and cons in setting AD domain trust into my AD domain for more than 10+ AD domain and some with same FQDN or label ?

    Hi,
Can someone please share what is the pros and Cons of trusting AD domain for more than 10 different AD sites into my existing single domain forest let say ParentCompany.com ?
At the moment I only have one single forest AD domain with the Domain and Forest functionality Windows Server 2003. The main domain controller FSMO role holder is in the Data Center spread across three different VMs running on Windows Server 2008 R2.
The main/parent company has acquired smaller business chain of 15+ offices in which they have their own Domain Controller and also their own domain, sometimes they also got the same AD domain between them (no trust or whatsoever in those 15+ AD domain).
Sounds crazy but yes, there is no standardization in them or whoever manage their IT infrastructure previously.
I'm now considering what are the benefits of creating the AD domain and trust versus importing those AD objects into my domain and then decommission them.
No need to worry about Exchange Server since all of the user in those sites connecting to the RDS to my ParentCompany.com terminal servers.
My requirements or goal are as follows:
    1. Simplify the AD domain structure & maintenance
    2. Try to avoid the disruptions of the user in terms of downtime and selecting multiple different domain everytime they login to their PC or SharePoint sites.
any kind of help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Can someone please share what is the pros and Cons of trusting AD domain for more than 10 different

I think you mean 10 AD domains.
Managing multiple domains can be difficult for administration. I usually recommend using a single domain in a single forest with OUs to separate resources whenever it is possible.
However, if you can't do that then you can simply create trust relationships between your domains. The advantage is that you can enable access to resources to different domains. I do not see cons here.

I would recommend consolidating your domains into a single one. ADMT is a migration tool that you can use. The advantage would be the ease of administration. Also, by having multiple DCs for the same domain across sites, you will take benefit of High Availability
    of your and DRP.

  • Pros and cons of using disksets for SUNW.HAStoragePlus

    Hi,
untill now we were usign disksets for SUNW.HAStoragePlus for installing HA Oracle on both Sun Cluster 3.1 and 3.2.
On the article ( http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/features/articles/cluster3.1_oracle10g.pdf ) with the title "Installing and Configuring Sun Cluster 3.1 Software for Oracle Database 10g HA" the author prefers using just the disk devices for SUNW.HAStoragePlus.
What are the pros and cons of using disksets for disks you'll use for SUNW.HAStoragePlus?
I think that if you do not need to add more than one disk to a diskset there's no need to to use disksets. So, you can eliminate a problematic layer such as SDS. What do you thnik and which option do you prefer?

    some more details :
On " Chapter 4 . Configuring SolarisVolume Manager Software" of "Sun Cluster Data Service 16 for Oracle Guide for Solaris OS"
(http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2980?l=en&q=Sun+CLuster+3.2 ) SDS disksets we use for HA-Oracle installations is explained in detail.
Our procedure to create diskset to locate Oracle files is attached.
After reading the article, I realized that using disksets is not a
must for filesystems to be mounted as SUNW.HAStoragePlus. If yes, I
would prefer using the disk devices directly instead of putting them
on disksets so that I can eliminate one for layer which is the problematic SDS layer.

  • Pros and Cons of Clustering switches

Can someone tell me the pros and cons of clustering switches? It sound like its just for managing multiple switches or is it more trouble that its worth?
    TIA

    Hi,
well it has advantages as well as some flaws imho.
    Advantage:
    - Very scalable at low cost. You can add a lot of models onto a stack, ranging from 12port to 48 port, from 100Base-X Uplink to 10Gig-Uplink, with or without PoE with just the buying of a new switch. In modular switches, you have to buy the chassis and then add modules on it which might not come as divers as standalone-switches.
    - A somewhat higher redundancy. Spread the uplinks onto different switches in the stack and you'll have nearly no single point of failure (enviromental errors such as power not considered), whereas modular switches always have the backplane as (very rare) spe... and, if your not rockefeller, is the single supervisor engine.
    - You can spread a stack (with 3750) over some distance, at least more than on a modular switch. That gives you enough room to implement some cable-routing facilities inbetween the switches.
    Disadvantages:
    - surely the need for more power outlets, one for each switch
    - management, as stated on previous post (well, it's quite similar to modular switches but not exactly, just have a look at snmp, it's a mess on stacks :-( )
    - heat dissipation (not really checked on that). X powersupplies generate more heat than Y, if Y < X...

  • Pros and Cons for single sales organization and multiple sales organization

    Hi!
Does anybody have a good data of Pros and Cons for Single Sales Organization vs. Multiple Sales Organization.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Actuall it all depends on the business process.
I will explain the answer to you through a practical example
like Ford, it has sales and services all across globe.
It is not advisable to manage all of its activities under only one sales organization, say Ford Inc.
So what it does is de-centralises the whole process according to the country, region so that the whole process is divided and hence can be managed more effeciently.
Hope this helps you in understanding the basics.
One sales org always provides you with very less data to update and maintain, while many sales org makes the scenario more complex.
One sales org always gives you the flexibility to bring any changes to the current scenario, while in multiple sales org to bring a change its a tiresome job.
These are some of the advantages and disadvantages of one to many sales org.
    regards,
    Siddharth.

  • Pros and cons Demand Planning in APO or ECC

    Hello,
is there a paper/pdf out there describing the pros and cons of DP in APO and ECC. We are planning to implement demand planning and are in an evaluation face whether to go with an APO solution or not. The financial aspect is not an issue. We already have the licensing in place for APO and ECC.
Which solution provides better flexibility and usability? Have any of you guys got experience with implementing demand planning in a non-manufacturing orgnisation. That is we are looking for a tool to forecast/plan external and internal procurement.
    Any suggestions are  welcome.

    Hi ,
Definitely APO DP have many advantage over ECC.
=> More Flexibility than ECC demand management
=> Complex statistical tool can be used for forecasting
=> Complex macros can be build as per the business need
=> Easy visilbility & maintenance of the data
=> Advance Demand planning functionalities like Promotional planning, LCM, Management decisions, etc can be incorporated easily.

  • HT204053 What are the pros and cons of 1) choosing to use the SAME Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or 2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides

All is in the title, so I repeat it below with a better identation.
What are the pros and cons of
    1) choosing to use the SAME
Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and
purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or
    2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides"?
    P.S.
I have loads and loads of free podcasts in iTunes in my iMac, that are certainly more thant the 5 gigas the iCloud provides for free, so I don't want those to go to the cloud. But this is perhaps a different question...
Also need to mention that I have itunes on a mac, a pc and an iphone.
Sorry to look so silly with this question, but I don't get the "big picture".

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.
