Warning: Failure to calculate super-latch promotion threshold.
Hello Mates,
I am frequently getting this error messages recorded in the error log and its observed on the systems where SP2 has been installed.
anybody have an idea on how to mitigate it? Is there any CU available to resolve these errors.
SQL Version is - SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2
Thanks.
I found an old thread about this message:
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/73335952-859f-43b6-b0cf-052416263712/warning-failure-to-calculate-superlatch-promotion-threshold-appears-in-sql-server-log?forum=sqldatabaseengine
At the end, the original poster says that according to Microsoft, the message is harmless.

We are running SQL Server 2008 R2 and have just applied Service Pack 2 to our QA environment.
Today we noticed this message in the SQL Server log:
Warning: Failure to calculate super-latch promotion threshold.
Can someone please tell us what this means and how to fix whatever it is?
There is no associated error message number.
We believe this message is new with Service Pack 2. Can someone tell us for sure?
This entry has occurred in the middle of the night when nothing was running that we could see and during the day.
Environment
SQL server 10.50.4000
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Service pack 1
Server has 4 processors, 8 Gig of Ram with 4 Gig set for SQL Server. Usage is generally light as it is a test environment.
KDIts just a warning message about super latch .
Since SQL 2005 SuperLatches have been introducted which can enable increased performance for accessing the shared pages in the database for a multiple concurrency workload which intrun requires worker threads require SH (shared) latches. No need to set or
enable any configuration this is performed automatically/dynamically based on the mutli-CPU configuration to promote a latch on a page to be a super-latch. Then this SuperLatch partitions the single latch into array of sublatch structure per CPU core.
Super latches are way of promoting a latch for entire NUMA Node to reduce contention.

Hi,
I am trying to upgrade one of our SQL Server Enterprise (2008 (SP2)) to 2012. I am using the upgrade option but it gives me the following error:
Error Code 0x85640002: There was a failure to calculate the applicability of setting LICENSEPATH
We have downloaded the image from our Volume Licensing account. Also, the same image was used to install SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2012 R2 servers without any issues.
Below is the install summary.txt. I have tried everywhere but no go. Would really appreciate any assistance.

This appears to be the root problem. It seems that the regional settings on this machine is messed up. 0x0C00 is an unusual LCID, they do not normally not end in two zeroes.
is there a custom culture installed on this machine?
Review the regional settings and also check the System locale. If it looks spooky, set it to Arabic - U.A.E. if this is where you are located.

Server Startup - log4j:WARN Failure in post-close rollover action
Hi,
Could anyone kindly help me to fix this issue??
We are Migrating Weblogic from 11g 10.3.2 to 10.3.6
After starting the server and checking the log, it keeps on prints "log4j:WARN Failure in post-close rollover action" in the log for several time.
It would be very helpful if you give me a solution to solve this issue.
Thanks

hi
In our SAP portal server's default traces and application logs we are constantly seeing warning messages as follows

could you guide on how do we get rid of this warning messages as this is filling up the filesystem
Thank you
Jonu Joyhi
When i stop this application from NWA - tcwebadministratorsolmandiag
which is a part of LM Services Patch 15, i do not see the warning messages any more in my j2ee application logs and default traces.
Thank you

Warning Email gets triggered before it reaches threshold.
Hi
In our scenario the total size allotted to site collection is 30600 MB and warning email is configured to trigger when size exceeds 29000 MB, however mail gets triggered before it reaches the threshold. Can you help me in this regard?
Also I can see total size around 34000 MB in storman.aspx page.?
Please suggest. You said in store man it is 34000 MB but your site quota is 30600 MB. their is some wrong with the site collections.
Could you please check from central admin as Nikhal Mentioned the link his email " http://<centraladmin_url>/_admin/sitequota.aspx"
if possible then share the screen shot of that page.
One side note, try to clean up your site recyclBin.
Please remember to mark your question as answered &Vote helpful,if this solves/helps your problem. ****************************************************************************************** Thanks -WS MCITP(SharePoint 2010, 2013) Blog: http://wscheema.com/blog -
SCCM 2012 database issue /question
Hi All
We have 2 recurring errors on our Primary Server (SQL locally installed so a local database).
We have recently updated SCCM 2012 RTM -> SCCM 2012 SP1 (no CU), and we have upgraded SQL 2008 R2 (CU6) to SQL 2008 R2 SP2.
We have exactly the same issue in our TST environment.
Both errors are related to SQL
We checked the SQL server log,
The fist error:
Warning: Failure to calculate super-latch promotion threshold.
I don’t now where to search for this error also google did not provide me with some useful help, I hope someone here can help me with this one.
The second error:
This one has something to do with the stored procedure DRSMsgBuilderActivation
The activated proc '[dbo].[spDRSMsgBuilderActivation]' running on queue 'CM_XXX.dbo.ConfigMgrDRSMsgBuilderQueue' output the following:
'ERROR: Sync of type Configuration Data failed, see previous messages for details.'
And the previous message is the following :
The activated proc '[dbo].[spDRSMsgBuilderActivation]' running on queue 'CM_XXX.dbo.ConfigMgrDRSMsgBuilderQueue' output the following:
'ERROR 3961, Level 16, State 1, Procedure spDRSSendChangesForGroup, Line 1, Message: Snapshot isolation transaction failed in database 'CM_XXX' because the object accessed by the statement has been modified by a DDL statement in another concurrent transaction
since the start of this transaction. It is disallowed because the metadata is not versioned. A concurrent update to metadata can lead to inconsistency if mixed with snapshot isolation.'
I did some checking and there is no problem with the tempdb
Also with this error I hope that someone can help me
Perhaps someone has had the same error
Regards and thx in advance
Johanhi, one thing I did not understand is, what is the effect on the non technical side of this error?
On the technical side you can find some information in error logs. This it's what I understood.
Is your sccm server working? Or is it not even possible to finish the sccm installation? -
Concurrent mode failure triggered by a full permanent generation?
Hello
I've read various forum posts and blogs on concurrent mode failures and I'm aware why such failures occur (small old gen, promotion guarantee failure, fragmentation) in the old gen and some options (increase heap size/old gen, use CMSInitiatingFraction, explicit System.gc() at quiet hours for compaction, etc.) that may be used to alleviate the problem. In fact, thanks to these forums, I used some of these options to effectively deal with concurrent mode failures on a SPARC system (Solaris 9). However, with my current JVM tuning exercise, the following GC log snippet from a JVM 1.4.2_10 running on HP-UX 11.23 (ia64) leaves me in doubt.
346179.949: [GC 346179.950: [ParNew: 419022K->27014K(491520K), 0.1540543 secs] 976980K->585383K(1474560K), 0.1542645 secs]

Question: When using CMS, perm gen collection is turned off by default and a serial Full GC collects the perm gen. Could this have led to the concurrent mode failure seen above causing classes to be unloaded? i.e. when CMS collector needs to clean up perm gen via a serial STW GC, it generates a concurrent mode failure?
I doubt the concurrent mode failure could be caused by a full promotion guarantee failure or fragmentation given the available free heap and the fact that this was the first GC in the old generation since server startup.
Note: We do have a perm gen memory leak caused by spring/CGLIB. While we are fixing the class loading issue, we increased MaxPermSize from 256m to 512m to buy some time. With MaxPermSize=512m and -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled, we had very frequent CMS GCs (every 5 seconds) and I read that this happens because the CMSInitiatingthreshold is the same for both old gen and perm gen. So, we removed -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled and the CMS GCs are no longer frequent.
Thanks

IDS signature for login Failure
Is there a signature that detects login failures where you can set a threshold for like 3 logins failures and if this is attained, someone will be alerted?
Seems pretty common, right?
ThanksIMHO, this is better accomplished using a tool that monitors host logs. The sensor can't do much for encrypted protocols like SSH and HTTPS.
However, there are signatures for a couple protocols:
3127-0,SNMP brute force
5606-0,6255-0 SMB auth failure
6250-0, FTP auth failure
6251-0, telnet auth failure
6252-0, rlogin auth failure
6253-0, pop3 login failure
6256-0, HTTP auth failure -
Unable to install Windows Identity Foundation on Windows 7
Following installtion guide titled "Setting Up the Development Environment for SharePoint 2010 on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008".
I am installing SharePoint Foundation 2010 on Windows 7 Enterprise 64 Bit. Following the guide above, I was able to install all of the prerequisites except for the two hotfixes: KB976462 and KB974405. Ater some research I believe KB976462 is
to be installed after KB974405 so I am troubleshooting this item before. I've downloaded the MSU file (Windows6.1-KB974405-x64.msu) and during the installtion for KB974405 it reports that the installation failed. When I go into the Windows
Update history and check the details for that update attempt it indicates Error Code 80070643. This seems to be a generic failure so I'm having trouble with solving it.
I've searched as best as I could for the solution but the solutions for others I've seen online didn't work for me. I've double checked the prerequisites for the hotfix and have IIS 7.5 as well as .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. I used the .NET
Framework Setup Verification Tool and did not see any issues. The other potention issue I saw was that in the Windows Update screen it says that "Some settings are managed by your system administrator" and automatic updates are turned
off. However, I was given a username and password that has local admin rights and that's what I was able to use to install all of the other items in the guide. Therefore I don't think that would be the issue. I'm really stuck and not sure
at all how to proceed at this point.
When I tried installing SPF 2010 dispite that error, during the wizard I recieved the error "Failed to load dependency Microsoft.IdentityModel of assembly Microsoft.SharePoint". Based on that I saw that KB974405 couldn't be ignored.
Edit: Please see complete error log below.Below is the complete error log of the installation attempt:

Main live 2008 R2 server (on AWS) has stopped applying updates
Hi all,
Hopefully someone can help me - I can't believe I'm the only one experiencing this issue.
Our main live server is 2008 R2 (x64) running on Amazon Web Services. Until recently it had been working fine, however now it won't accept ANY updates - they all continue to fail, no matter what (up to 32 updates
outstanding so far).
After trying various suggestions prior to this I ended up trying every single proposed solution in KB article 2509997 - "Unable to install updates
in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2" Nothing worked. The only thing I couldn't try was a checkdisk (being a VM), however sfc failed to find a problem (from memory).
Below is hopefully the relevant bits of WindowsUpdate.log

Unable to install updates in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2Hi Benjamin,
Before going further, would you please let me know if you fix that memory problem firstly which find by using
SFC? If you download and install update manually, will encounter the same issue?
Please refer to the following article and check if can help you to solve this update issue.
Can’t
download any updates on windows server 2008 r2
By the way, when I check the log that you post, it seems that you install Internet Explorer 10 in the Server
2008 R2. Please check if install correctly. There is a KB that you can refer to.
Can't install Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 7 or
Windows Server 2008 R2
Hope this helps.

Hi Folks,
Runnning Forefront TMG build 7.0.9193.500

Description: An error occurred during an attempt to check for, download, or install definition updates on the server ServerName.
The failure is due to error: 0x80240022"
When looking in the windowsupdate.log file, it appears that there is a permissions problem encountered during the update process (WARNING: ExtractUpdateFiles failed with 0x80070005)

Since it seemed to help some folks that were having trouble downloading the NIS updates, I have also tried downloading the updates with (winhttp) Proxy authentication on and off.
I have also tried recreating the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder (Stop wuauserv; Rename folder; Start wuauserv; Folder recreated)
Still no luck. Any help or direction you can provide is much appreciated.
Cheers,
John
Hi,
Thank you for the post.
I did some research regarding error “0x80070005”, you may perform the following steps and see if it helps:
Step 1: Verify DCOM security
1. Click Start, click Run, type Dcomcnfg, and then click OK.
2. Expand Component Services, and then expand Computers.
3. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
4. Click the COM Security tab.
5. Under Access Permissions, click Edit Default.
6. Verify that the following accounts are listed:
7. If any one of these accounts is missing in the Access Permission box, follow these steps:
a. Click Add, click Advanced, and then click Locations.
b. In the Locations box, click the Local_Computer_Name, and then click OK.
c. Click Find Now.
d. Press CTRL, click the required account names, and then click OK two times.
e. In the Group or User names box, click an account that you added, click Local Access in the Permissions for Account_Name box, and then click to select the check box in the Allow column.
f. Repeat step 7e for all the accounts that you just added, and then click OK.
Step 2: Verify DCOM default properties
1. Click the Default Properties tab.
2. Verify that the following configuration:
• The Enable Distributed COM on this computer check box is selected.
• In the Default Authentication level box, Connect is selected.
• In the Default Impersonation level box, Identify is selected.
3. Make any required changes, and then click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

then the partition gets mounted as RO. Seems bcache works with btrfs though, and I should wait for that3.10 is in [testing] already. Also, as of 3.9 there has been the inclusion of dm-cache (which obviouisly utilizes device-mapper). From the user benchmarks that people have done (though the methods were criticized), they seem to offer some pretty similar performance.

}Hi, floppit. For sending emails, I used the JavaMail API. Here is some code I wrote where I used JavaMail. The most relevant lines are in bold.
/* File: ListenNotifier.java
* Author: Fabricio Machado
* [email protected]
* This utility is based on the "Listen.java" tool from the Tiny OS
* java tools package, in /tinyos-1.x/tools/java/net/tinyos/tools/.
* The original application has been extended to convert raw packet data into
* a more meaningful representation of actual photo sensor readings in
* lux.
* The application checks the readings against a user-defined
* threshold, and sends email notifications when readings break the
* threshold, and also when readings dip back below the threshold.
* Currently, the code is only fit to handle packets from the Tiny OS
* nesc application OscilloscopeRF.nc. The code gets the packet data
* by connecting via TCP to a Tiny OS java tool called "Serial Forwarder."
* "Serial Forwarder" takes packets from the base station, and forwards
* them to TCP port 9001.
