Warrenty Question: Itouch 2nd Generation

Back in November 2008, I bought the Itouch 2nd Generation for $399.99 and I also bought with it a two year warranty. Now two years later i noticed the receipt but i bought the Itouch on 11/28/08 so it ends today, or since its 12:15 now, yesterday. Now my question is i heard that you can extend warranties after you got it in the first place so I'm wondering if i can still get my warranty extended and if so would i be able to exchange my now probably discontinued 2nd generation itouch for the 4th generation one?

BTW, even if it was still in effect, there would have to be something wrong with it, and it would be sent out for Rapid Exchange, which gets you a refurb in 7-10 business days. The refurb would be a 2G.

If you want to transfer app dat you need to restore the new iPod from the backup of the old iPod.  Restoring from backup will result in your new iPod being just like your old iPOd except you will have to reenter keychain items like passwords since those only get restore to the same device upon a restore.

  • How to get Itouch 2nd generation to connect to Itunes.

I am giving my Itouch 2nd generation to my daughter.  I haven't used it in a couple of years.  I did a complete reset to erase all of the content.  Upon finishing the reset an icon appeared on the screen to connect to Itunes.  I have tried connecting to Itunes to finish the restart but Itunes won't even recongnize that it is connected.  I have tried several of the online troubleshooting ideas with no success.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

  • ITouch 2nd Generation (32 GB) will not sync anything on Windows Vista

I bought a used 2nd Generation iTouch June 2010 on eBay, and have never had a problem with it until now. For some reason, I will get one of several error messages
"The iPod "iPod name" cannot be synced. The required disk cannot be found
    or
"The iPod "iPod name" cannot be synced. An error occured while reading from the device
    or
"The iPod "iPod name" cannot be synced. An error occured while writing to the device
It does not give me an error code number so it makes it harder to look for help on this matter on the Internet. Everything is up to date (I believe) and I have reset all the settings on my iTouch. I've tried connecting it to the different USB ports on my laptop, but still to no avail, as well as restarted my laptop. My last resort is to completely restore it, requiring me to have to repurchase everything I've already gotten from iTunes and I'd rather not do that if this is fixable.
My iTouch has version 4.2.1 (8C148) on it and my iTunes is 10.4.0.80. Someone please help me. I'd be very grateful for it

    - For the first error try deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder. For its location see:
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
    - Try that first.  If still problems firt try resetting the iPod.  Nothing will be lost:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring the iPod. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • PLEASE IGNORE LAST QUESTION RE:  2nd Generation IPod Shuffle Connection

Let's try that again. I currenty have a 2nd generation ipod shuffle that works on my laptop just fine...most of the time. My roomate, however, is having a lot of problems trying to get her's to work on her desktop pc. I need to know if she can use my laptop with her IPod Shuffle as well. I think she can, I just do not have a clue how to do it. Any help with step by step instruction would be great! Normally I Know just about everything with Windows. This one has me confused. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

You select one or more songs in the Music library. Then you click-hold-drag the song(s) and drop onto the shuffle under DEVICES. If you don't see the shuffle under DEVICES, click the little triangle to drop down the list.
The easier way to put songs onto the shuffle is create a new Playlist. Name it "shuffle songs" or whatever you want. Put the songs you want on your shuffle into this playlist. Then connect your shuffle, go to the shuffle's pane in iTunes, and click on the Contents tab. At the bottom of that tab is the Autofill controls. Select to +Autofill from+ the playlist you just created and populated. Click the Autofill button to sync.
This is better because you can decide what to put on the shuffle the next time without the shuffle connected, AND when you sync, it's done all at one time, instead a few songs at a time if you do it manually.

  • Itouch 2nd generation+update ios 4= FROZEN

this is a brand new itouch..i plugged it in itunes it recognized it..it was fine until itunes opt to update to ios 4..28 mins to dwnld and now my itouch is completely frozen with the usb and itunes on screen..I did every trick of the trade; a hard reset and updating my windows and now my pc is asking for a driver software disk and itunes isn't picking up my itouch...sooo maybe I shouldn't have updated it in the first place..help!!

I realize that it is the constant upgraded technology that makes the previous obsolete. Even though the app developers may be to blame, I still blame Apple as a whole. I bought my iPod when it was new and now that they have something better, I feel they are doing a poor job at keeping customers with technology only made a couple years ago happy. Those who snicker at this now will understand in a year or so when the iPod Touch 6th generation comes out.
This can all be solved easily if they would just release something that would sort updates in the 'App Store' based on the generation of the iPod Touch being used by the user. (Hint, hint, Apple)
Since that's way to easy to solve, it probably won't happen. So this then begs the question:
(This is also the TL;DR part) Is there still no workaround? If not, is there some way I can trade in my old iPod Touch for a discount or something on a newer one? Because they have by no means lost a user. They have just made a user very unhappy at the moment.

  • Replaced Itouch 2nd generation LCD and now it won't charge

Hi everyone and thank you for the warm welcome to the forum!
I feel bad but i have to ask for help already
I recently purchased a 2G itouch from my friend because half of the LCD didnt work and he got a new one
I ordered the replacement LCD and it arrived and while attempting to take the front panel/digitizer off, none of the clips would pop so out of frustration i basically just pryed it open, breaking the panel/digitizer
This wasn't an issue for me, however, because there were a few scratches on the front that I wanted to see gone anyway so no sweat
Later, though, I continued disassembly and while unattaching the LCD ribbon, I managed to clip the home button conductor (the actual button beneath the panel button) and it came off. Nothing is wron with it except that it is no longer in place
Through all this dismay, I managed to keep my composure because I got the new LCD installed and I plugged it into my computer and it powered up with a very crisp, beautiful display. But once again, that wasn't the end of it. After unplugging it a few times, it now wont read that it is charging, or that it is plugged in at all for that matter. I know the cable and usb port are both good because I attached a co-workers itouch and it charged just fine.
I guess through all of this, I have 2 main questions:
    1) Can I solder the Home button conductor back onto the place where it belongs? (I can see the part on the board where it attaches)
    2) Is there any possible explaination as to why it wont charge now, other than my awesome luck may have made the dock connector happen to go bad at that very moment?
I just wanna thank everyone in advance for the help and I know that through everyones commbined experienece and expertise, we can get this problem fixed

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use. Also, iOS 7 seems to make the iPod more sensitive to bad cables.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Parental controls for the itouch 2nd generation

How do you go about setting up parental controls for an itouch?

I know this is not helpful at all
But if your kid has half a brain he'll (or she'll) be able to get past parental locks.
Instead of ignoring and blocking something you think is a problem how about you talk to them about it.
    *Does a load of good.*
but if your INTENT on doing this, you can easily find the parental control options in the touch's settings. But i assure you they will be able to get past it.

  • Fring, Skype, iTouch (2nd Generation)

I just downloaded Fring with Skype Out capability from Apple's Apps store. Knowing that Apple will "soon" release a new in-ear headphone with built in mic. Do you suppose....??
I can't wait to try it out. If it works as I suspected, then it would be great news for I'm a Skype subscriber. Using Wi-Fi, connecting to Skype...making international call using iTouch.
Then again, for you tech experts out there, I might be wrong.
    Patrick

That put the icing on the cake for me, plus another couple of ideas.
It suddenly dawned on me that, where I am, the Skype system has to go through a number of connections, even to place a call within the country. I also compared what I did with Skype on the computer.
For dialing a number, I add the country prefix (in my case +66 -- the 0 key doubles as the +) then the full number, so for Bangkok number 02 becomes +662, then area code and number.
On occasions I noticed that the Skype button was not green, while on others while green there was the instant termination that others experienced. Persistence may be the key here: trying it two or three times finally got it to dial out and connections were made. I tried this on both Gen 1 and Gen 2 iPod touch, although neither has a microphone (I was more concerned with the experiment). Both were able to make it through to a phone ringing.
Using the G2 one and headphones, I could hear myself although there was clearly some delay.

  • Forgot my passcode to iTouch 2nd generation. How do i get it to work again?

I entered my passcode wrong too many times and it says "Connect to iTunes" but i cant get in to iTunes because of the unknown passcode/ ability to type it again. What do i do?
    This is what i tried:
    - Recovery mode a few times, it doesnt work.
    - Holding both "sleep" & "home" button until it restarts, doenst really do anything.
    - Shutting it off, holding "home" button, then plugging it into the computer: it went black with a picture of a USB saying "Connect To iTunes". So i did. I clicked restored. It took about 20 min to download. Then my iTouch shut off, woke up again, and now im back to where i started :/
What i dislike most about this is that i plug it into iTunes but my iMac cant read it because i "cant enter a passcode" when i dont even have an option to enter one anymore.
By the way, its been disabled for about a year. I recently found it while cleaning my house. I owned this since 8th grade. So thats about 4 years. Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Mahalo (:

Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
You might have to try more than once to put it in recovery mode, it can be tricky.

  • How to update older itouch 2nd generation?

i have an older ipod itouch gen2 and i try to get new apps but says i have to update it first but there is no update options on it.

If the app requires a later version of iOS than 4.2.1, then I'm afraid you won't be able to use that app since the 2G iPod Touch cannot be upgraded past iOS 4.2.1. Sorry.
