Waveform editor feedback noise

I am using STP 2.02 and working through the Soundtrack Pro book by Mary Plummer.
When I load a file into the waveform editor (page 32), it immediately starts making a horrid noise, it seems that it is picking up feedback from the built in microphones.

If you look at the Recording tab in the upper right pane and switch the output to None it should solve that problem.

For my part I don't quite see why it would be designed so that one is armed for recording in the Editor window, but whatever.

Reading Waveform (.hws) files from Analog Waveform Editor into LabVIEW causes read errors

Hi Gang,
In my application, I want to create files Using the Analog Waveform Editor and then, through LavVIEW, play them out through an D/A.
I've not been able to read the .hws file into LV. I've tried two methods:
Using the Read Waveform VI in the Waveform palette, yields Error -1821.
I looked in the knowledgebase and found the article "Using the Analog Waveform Editor and HWS Files with Multifunction DAQ Devices" That recommended using the HWS VIs that are a part of the FGEN driver. I tried that and get an Error -21515.
The file I want to read is quite small, only 20 samples. Is there some limitation on .hws files or the Waveform Editor I'm not aware of?
I've attached the file if anyone is willing to experiment. I had to change the extension from .hws to .txt to be able to attach it.
All responses will be appreciated.

Interesting. I tried to look at your file with the low level read .hws file vi's and I too got error -21515. So I tried the NI-HWS express load.vi and it looks like it worked. I'm not familiar with the analog waveform editor...does it store using the dynamic data type? Oh I converted the dynamic data to 1d array of waveforms using the convert from dynamic data.vi.

Clip looping not working correctly unless I edit clip in Waveform editor (CS6)

I record a short clip
I use the, razor, slip or time selection to trim the clip to the exact length I want it to be.
I rt-click the clip and enable looping
I go to the right edge of the clip and stretch the clip to make it loop one or more times.
Problem, the clip loops but not at the begin and end point I expected based on #2 above.
I eventually went into the wave form editor and just deleted the dead air at the beginning of the clip (but not at the end) and now the looping feature works as expected.
Am I missing something? Is this the correct behavior? Do I have to edit a clip in waveform editor to make it loop correctly?

Very bad is that 3 point editing only works when "nested" is activated. Again, very bad!

I think I know what's going on. The behavior you describe happens when you try to edit back into your original sequence. Can try making a new sequence to cut your selects into? See the page in help for details: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/edit-sequences-loaded-source-monitor.html

Feedback noise from iOS4 upgrade to 3GS

Dear Apple marketing folks, we appreciate your developers, but please get us a patch for this iOS4 issue ASAP. Think of the bad (and very public) experiences that are now happening daily with iPhones randomly making loud screeching noises in work places, cafes, buses, subways, etc.. Talk about bad word-of-mouth marketing. Ouch. The Android marketing people are going to have a field day with this one if it does not get fixed quick.
The recent upgrade to iOS4 on my otherwise great 3GS is causing random, loud, high-pitched, feedback noises to emit every time the phone makes a noise for anything else (reminder ding, etc).
A phone call with tech support only got me a suggestion to do a Restore via iTunes and confirmation that they know this is trending up. The Restore did not work.

I have had the same issue following my upgrade to iOS4. In my opinion these issues are uncharacteristic of Apple. I have had no issues with this phone or any other Apple product that I have used until I made the upgrade to iOS4. I agree with the other posts that something needs to be done about this (and other iOS4 issue) ASAP. PLEASE post any tricks that you have found (besides restores, and reboots which I have already done without lasting success)to work on a more permanent basis.

Waveform Editor Grid Lines in Audition 5.5

Hi,
Anyone know how to turn OFF the grid lines (vertical and horizontal) in the Waveform Editor view in Audition 5.5? I'm on a try-out version at the moment, but have used Audition 2 for years - I loved the way the display was completely customisable. The grid lines in Audition 5.5 are very heavy, and it feels as though they get in the way of me viewing the waveform properly. It may seem like a small thing, but when you're editing thousands of files, sometimes sitting for 4 hours or more at a time, these small things can make a HUGE difference!

Flex 2 - Persistent Feedback Noise

Hi everyone,
I've had my Flex 2 since about December and ever since I opened it there has been this recurring high-pitched feedback noise emitting from the computer whether I'm running things on it or it is simply idle (i.e. at the desktop). It is also persistent whether the laptop is charging or on battery power. Anyways, I sent it in to Lenovo about a week after opening the laptop and they sent it back saying the issue had been repaired with the motherboard being the cause of the issue. As soon as I turned on my laptop, the noise was still there. However because I needed it for school, I couldn't send it back in til Spring break. They then contacted me saying that they couldn't identify the problem I had stated and even after describing to them in detail the issue, they could not identify the problem. At this point, I needed my computer back for the new school quarter and so had to request that they return my computer to me "unrepaired". The feedback noise is still persistent and annoying as ever but it seems I'm out of luck with trying to get Lenovo to help me with this issue. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Also, the noise comes on and stays on whenever I go to configure the microphone properties in control panel. As soon as I close out of that, the noise switches back to being an on-and-off noise.

No proper fix. Workaround is to uninstall the Realtek driver and use the generic Windows driver.

Edit Pop in Waveform Editor and File Editor

After downloading the current update for Logic Pro I have found several bugs in Soundtrack Pro. The most disturbing is an audio pop at the edit point in Soundtrack Pro when you delete audio in either the Waveform Editor or the File Editor. And, yes, I am using zero crossings. This has not happened before and has now rendered Soundtrack Pro unusable as an editor for my projects. Has anyone else had the same problem? Is there a work-around or some other solution? This is happening on muptiple and varied systems and has not happend before.

Still having the same problem and a few more. I have come to the conclusion the problem is bigger than first thought. Finally resorted to do a clean install of the OS etc. and all the updates and start frrom square one.
Note to Apple: The insturctions on how to re-install Soundtrack and Compressor by themselves will not work and are not accurate or detailed enough. If time is important to you it is best to backup your files and start from scratch.

Digital waveform editor can not open hws file generated by niHWS store waveform

Hi,
I am using a simple VI to store the U32 array to a hws file in LabVIEW, however, the file generated can not be opened by Digital Waveform Editor. The VI used to be working well before I upgrade LabVIEW from V7 to V7.1.
Meanwhile I also found out that the hws file generated by DWE can not be read out by niHWS. retrieve waveform.vi if the number of channels is not 32.
I would be grateful if any one can give me some help. Please find the VIs and hws files as attached.
The software I am using is
Digital Waveform Editor 1.0
LabVIEW 7.1

Thanks for your quick response.
I tried again but still failed to open the hws file with my DWE V1.0. Since the version is the only difference between our software, I suspect the problem is caused by my DWE of old version.
Would you please help me to check if the new attached questionretrievepattern.hws file can be opened by the HWS.VI? (Please change the extention from txt to hws as I can not attach file with hws format in this forum)This file is generated by DWE1.0 and contain only 16 channels. It can not be opened by the niHWS retrieve waveform.vi in my computer with erroe code "-21558", but if I added another 16 channels signals with DWE, the data can be read out properly.
If we can confirm the problem is caused by DWE1.0, would you please also let me know how to upgrade my DWE? Thanks.

Digital waveform editor

If I use the Digital Waveform Editor to create a clock, can this clock signal be used as a my clock source? An example I am trying to reference for creation of my own VI is the Dynamic Generation and Acquisition - Demo.vi found in the Example Finder in LabVIEW 2012. In it the On Board Clock is used for both Generation and Acquisition. I would like to use a clock that I have already created in my waveform file because I know my other signal is working with it and the device under test when doing a signal generation and acquisition using a scope. Any advice on how to do this (if possible) would be appreciated.

In terms of using the waveform file that you created directly as your clock source, this is not possible. However, if you wanted to output this waveform using a function generator and then use that signal as an external sample clock for your Digitizer, this would be more likely to work. Is this more along the lines of what you were thinking?

No audio when in waveform editor

When I am in a multitrack session I hear everthing fine, but double click a clip to open in waveform monitor, my cinema screen that is hooked up to a Blackmagic HD Link switches to black and I have no audio (when in multitrack session this screen shows the desktop). The audio is still showing on the Soundtrack Pro meters, anyone else having this problem?

No solution as of yet. I have contacted blackmagic and the were able to duplicate the problem there. They said that the way to fix the problem is to add video. I already had the video so this was no help.
They said STP was doing something weird and they have contacted Apple. The only solution I have, is to load the file into the waveform editor, then select FCP in the dock, then switch back to STP. You will have audio in the waveform editor until you switch back to the multitrack session. Not much of a solution I know but it's all I have.
You will notice that when you switch to FCP the screen will also switch.

Digital waveform editor & fichiers.hws

J'utilise une carte PXI 6542 pour envoyer diverses sequences numériques à un système électronique, j'utilise le Digital WaveForm Editor qui est plutot pratique pour faire des modifications ponctuelles (à la sourie) sur des signaux (par exemple modifier le debut ou la fin). Je peux egalement créer des signaux directement avec labview, si ceux-ci sont repetitifs et pas trop complexes.
L'ideale, est de pouvoir utiliser les deux manières de dessiner les signaux numeriques. Mais je n'arrive pas à enregistrer à partir de labview un fichie.hws qui aurait des noms (voir même des couleurs) paramétrables.
Ma question : Comment enregistrer un fichier.hws avec des noms de signaux que l'on retrouverai lorsqu'on ouvre ce fichier.hws avec le Digital Waveform Editor ???

Pardonnez mon français, je n'ont pas parlé français depuis le lycée. Afin d'écrire un dossier et faire apparaître les noms de signal dans le DWE, vous devrez éditer le dossier utilisant une bibliothèque HDF5. On est disponible ici:

Les noms de signaux viennent du "name" corde dans le dossier HDF5. Si vous n'êtes pas très familiarisé avec HDF5, alors il peut être très difficile d'appeler les signaux. Vous pouvez également consulter le poteau suivant de forum de discussion:

1) You can actually acquire as many points as you want. You may be worried about the throughput of all this data from the DAQ board into computer memory, but I don't think this will be much of a concern for your application. You're limited only by how much memory your computer has. Mainly, you should be concerned about what you are doing with all those samples after they are acquired. Are you just using them once then throwing them away? (Such as the "Cont Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clk.vi" shipping example.) Or are you streaming them to disk? If you just keep them all in computer memory, then there would be some maximum number of samples you could hold but that number would be system dependant and you'd just have to experiment to find that number.

) That's a great idea to take those voltage signals and make them digital inputs. This way you'll also free up some more bandwidth giving you the option to increase the sample rate on your other channels. However, you won't be able to include any DIO channels in the same task with your other analog channels. You need to create a separate task for these digital input channels. Lines 0,1,2, and 4 will be reserved for communication with your SCXI chassis by the way. You also won't be able to do any buffered sampling like you can with the analog channels. The DIO for the PCI-6024E is only immediate and software-timed. (You must poll the status of the line with a software loop.)

Digital waveform editor somewhere bundled in full, proffesional or suite?

Hi,
I recently discovered the digital waveform editor which seems quite usable for a project I'm working on. I downloaded the demo version, but I cannot save the files (it's a demo right). My question is whether this product is available in one of the bundles. At the university we do have access to allmost every LabVIEW product but I cannot seem to find this one. And before I go installing all DVD's I can find, perhaps there someone who knows whether and where I could find it.

Digital waveform editorで作成した波形をPXIe-6536で出力したいのですが、どのようにすればよいでしょうか．
対応が正しいかわかりませんが、現状では以下のようなアプローチをとっております．
①Digital waveform editorで波形を作成
.hws形式のファイルとして出力して、
「NI-HWS Express(load)」に読み込み
デジタル波形グラフVIで出力を確認しました．
②PXIe-6536用にDAQアシスタントを作成
PXIe-6536でのデジタル出力
DAQアシスタント作成時画面でテスト波形の出力
NI CB-2162上で波形が出力されていることを確認
DAQアシスタント作成完了
というところまでを行いましたが、いくつか気になる点があります．
DAQアシスタント単体で実行すると、エラーが出る
「エラーコード-200077がDAQmx Write (Digital 1D Wfm NChan NSamp).vi:3で発生

Waveform editor clips won't update

hello, i am very frustrated. haha. whenever i double click an audio file, it brings up the waveform editor. i add my effects but when i save it or go back to the soundtrack project, it isn't updated. how do i save my edited clips and get them to have the effects on them in the main project??

It is very frustrating.
Here's what I can see.
If I import a file. Double click that, do some process to it, close the file editor. What happens is that the entire file is processed, the waveform doesn't update, and if I save and re-open the project the effect is gone. The waveform however now looks like it's processed even though it isn't.
Apparently the application is not saving this audio file project. I think it's not right that it doesn't or at least doesn't warn you that it isn't going to, but that's another thing in the list to be fixed.
+What you need to do is make or save a new stap file. There's 2 ways to do this.+
EITHER
After you process the clip in the Audio Editor, Save. It will prompt you to save it as an Audio project.
Then the waveform will update, and everything will save properly.
OR
First +Menu->Clip>Replace with Independent Audio File Project+ which will create a new stap, then process, again the waveform updates properly and everything is saved and there when re-opened.
Try experimenting to see the difference.
