Way to control which compiled help appears to user?

Just to provide a little background--I have been working with Robohelp for years as an author but basically have no technical expertise. I write topics, press buttons in robohelp to generate compiled help, and that's it. So here's my issue:
We will be generating help in different languages and will have a different compiled help  for each language. Since a single client using our software may have employees speaking different languages, we will be installing help for each possible language that can be used with the installation of our software. What we want to do is to be able to have the employee click on a context sensitive help button (which we do now) but open the appropriate help for their language. I guess the idea is that the employee might have to enter some parameter indicating the language, and then the appropriate help opens. Is this something that can be done through Robohelp itself, or would I have to have a developer figure something out on that end?

I think this would have to be something a developer sets up.
I wonder if they can do something along the lines of requiring users to indicate the required language as a setting in your application and then set the help calls to go to the appropriate language help.

  • Is there a way to control which processes should run or not ?

I have a mac with Snow Leopard and was wondering if there was an app or some other way to control which processes run at startup and which dont etc ? I made a new user account and logged in and noticed that it ran like brand new. It loaded up faster and smoother than my normal account. I looked at the processes running and noticed that this new account loads up like a 4th of the processes my main account runs at startup . How can i make my main account run the same processes only so it will run as smooth and fast ? is there an app for this ? thanks (an app that also tells me what each process is for will help too so i can close the processes that i dont need and so that i dont have to close them every time i reboot, but that it will also stop them from automatically loading)
    Message was edited by: Pianohero

most of the apps that would run at login (which btw is different from startup) automatically are things in the login items. there may be a few items in homedirectory/library/lauchagents but that would be the only place. other than that what runs at login on one account will run on the other. note however, that if you remove any launchdaemons from homedirectory/library/lauchagents the apps that made them may not work properly depending on what those launch daemons do.
what 50 other processes are you referring to that you see on your main account? most of the stuff you see in the activity monitor are system processes that should not be removed. normally they hardly consume any CPU or RAM.

  • Does anyone control which compiler version is used?

    hi,
does anyone control which version of javac/jikes et al is being used for large projects?
as I understand it its very unlikely to make a difference modulo the recent bugs in the 1.5 compiler?
ie if you don't specify the source or target flags then not a lot can go wrong?
in summary, is the assertion that controlling the compiler version used in the way that you might for native C/C++ projects in a java project is much less likely to have any impact?
    thanks,
    asjf

Everyone on a project should be working to the same version.A third party product we needed, "Active Merchant" works only with java version 1.3.
(I tried it and it really does not work with either 1.2 or 1.4) . This product consists of a client library (an API) which you can use in your application, and which communicates with the other part, the server .
Now we did not want to use 1.3 in the application server because of this circumstance, so we were forced to write an own auxiliary application in 1.3, which can be reached through the network and which talks to the given API, that in turn talks to the server.
So one guy working on that little own auxiliary application was working with 1.3, whereas the others were working with 1.2 (the old version f our application) and 1.4 (the new version of our application).
Moreover all those guys were one person (your humble narrator) in different "roles", that is, working on different parts of the project.

  • Any way to control which word a book page ends with, without have to play with tracking?

    Hi, there.
I have a number of threaded text frames, and I want each text frame to end with a certain word.
Example: "The cow jumped over the moon, and ate the cheese." I want page #1 to end with the word "jumped," page #2 to end with the word "moon," and page three to end with "cheese." I want all the frames to be the same size and all text to be the same size. The text will be justified.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thank you very much

  • Using a presentation variable to control which measures appear in a report?

    BI Experts -
I have a custom report using the Supporting Reference Balances OTBI Subject Area in Fusion.
I created a presentation variable dashboard prompt that has two values: Debit and Credit. I want to use this to allow the user to select which measure columns appear in the report.
For example, if the user selects Debit, then the report should display all the debit measures, i.e. Beginning Balance DR, Period Balance DR etc. If the user selects Credit then the report should display Beginning Balance CR, Period Balance CR etc.
Can you offer any suggestions and/or syntax to control which measure columns appear based on the value of the presentation variable?
    thanks in advance...

If you can divide up the measures into 2 different analysis, you can do something like this: http://obiee101.blogspot.com/2010/07/obiee-using-prompt-as-report-selector.html

  • Controlling which email address is used for group members?

    Howdy Folks,
Is there a way to control which email address is used for contacts that you have put into a group in Address Book?
For example, say John Smith is a member of an Address Book group I have created. John's Address Book entry contains two email addresses for him, one for work and one for home.
When I send an email to the group I want to have it sent to John's work email address.
I have experimented by editing the entry and making sure the desired address is the first one listed for the individual in question, but that doesn't do the trick.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

  • Selecting which Albums in Appear in  Front Row

    Hello All,
I like the idea that iPhoto albums appear in Front Row. However, as my list of albums grow, this could get hard to use. Is there any way to select which iPhoto albums appear in Front Row?
    Thanks in advance
    Kantron

Not that I know of. FR shows galleries, keepsakes, albums and slideshows. After the last import the albums are listed in the order that they are in the Albums section. Put those you want least at the bottom of that list. The same goes for galleries, keepsakes and slideshows.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Easy way to control IMAP access?

Is there an easier way to control which users have IMAP access though a GWIA
than by editing the class of service?
What would be nice is have a eDir group which would define the users that
    can have access.
By default I have it set class of service that enables IMAP access for
everyone however I finding that more users are passing along the server
addresses and adding their mobile device to send/retrieve email which is
working but I would prefer some control over who and who doesn't have access
without cutting everyone off and adding them to the properties of the GWIA
    agent.

You can have a GW distribution list that controls it though. I do that at a
    number of customer sites . . . .

Danita, so if I understand this correctly, a way to control IMAP access (for example, for just users that go through a Notifylink or BES server) would be to:
1.Disable IMAP on the GWIA default class of service
2.Create a Groupwise distribution list that includes the person(s) you want to use IMAP
3.Create a second class of service on the GWIA with SMTP disabled and IMAP enabled and include the distribution group created in the previous step.
    4.Stop and restart the GWIA
    Is it really that simple?

  • Controlling which WDS base station a machine connects to... how?

I'm trying to isolate a problem I've got with a simple WDS configuration. Configuration is:
Airport Extreme (n) Fast Ethernet - main WDS
    Airport Extreme (Snow) - relay
    Airport Express - remote
Due to configuration, machines that connect to the Express can also 'just see' the other two machines. One of them (a CoreDuo iMac) is reporting very poor Airport signal strength - even when the Airport Express is plugged in within 2 feet of the machine. We think that it is connecting to one of the other base stations - but can't work out how to find out if this is so, and if so how to stop it.
The iMac has recently returned from Applecare having had a new screen installed - is it possible that the airport antenna could have been disconnected as part of this? This might explain problem - but again I can't work out how to test this.
    Suggestions anyone?

    Airport Extreme (Snow) - relay
I know that you mean round AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) but I want to clarify something.
There is not a snow AEBS. Referring to it that way is confusing because there IS an 802.11b Dual-Ethenret (aka "snow") AirPort base station (ABS). The snow ABS does not do WDS and does not have a USB port.
The iMac has recently returned from Applecare having had a new screen installed - is it possible that the airport antenna could have been disconnected as part of this?
    Quite possibly.
There isn't any way to control which base station it connects to BUT you can see which one it is connected to. If the iMac is running OS 10.5, hold down the OPTION key while selecting the network name on the AirPort menu. You will see the MAC address of the base station which the iMac is connected to.

  • Controlling which RED audio tracks to import

Is there any way to control which audio tracks are imported when working with RED R3D files?
This is probably user error, but the company that we use for Red shoots has their camera set up so that the talent audio is on track 2 (with track 1 and 3 being empty, but still active). So I get three mono tracks for each clip I import.

After you import, and before you use any of the clips in a sequence, select them and go to Clip > Modify > Audio Channels. There are a number of options in that dialog for mapping source audio channels as you need.

  • Controlling which browser launches

I have a BES connected blackberry. When reading BES delivered emails using the Playbook Messages app, if I encounter an embedded link to a corporate site, the Playbook should launch the Bridge browser which is able to access the  link. If you use the bridge without any WIFI, or tethering, it should open the bridge browser, otherwise it will open the WIFI browser

  • I have a Sony DCR -SR32 which does not appear in the list of compatible cameras for imovie '11. Does anyone know if there is way to import files from this camera ?

I have a Sony DCR-SR32 HDD video camera which does not appear in the list of compatible cameras for imovie '11. Does anyone know if there is way of importing video from this camera to imovie ?
    Thanks
    Pheona

    Greetings Pheona,
That appears to be a hard drive based camecorder.  Usually these mount on the desktop of your computer as a little white hard drive icon.  If you go inside you should be able to find the movie files the camera is saving.  See what format they are (the last 3 letters at the end of the file name is a good place to start).
You can drag the movie files from the camera hard drive to the computer to copy them.  Then convert them with a video file conversion program to a format iMovie can understand.
Try converting one of the files using a video file conversion program like Video Monkey: http://videomonkey.org/downloads/
In the "Convert to" drop down menu choose "DV" (Preferred), "Quicktime", or "MP4".  Then import the resulting file into iMovie and see if that works any better.
If that program can't convert the files you can try another file conversion program:

  • Any way to control the order in which data is exported?

I found it surprisingly easy to set up a form to submit its contents via a formmail script -- perhaps too easy...
Using Acrobat 9 (and the demo version of Acrobat X), I've modified a form that students fill out so that when they hit the submit button it pushes the form contents to a script which relays it to an e-mail address specified on the form -- no problems there.
But the order in which those fields are listed in the e-mail bears no relation to the order the fields appear in the form -- or alphabetical order of the field names or data values or the tab order. It's the same order every time. And as far as I can tell the mailing script isn't doing anything to change the order of the data.
This is mostly an issue of making the e-mail friendly for the supervisor who has to look at the e-mails as they come in. (I've done a number of searches on Google and here in the forums before posting and haven't found any references to similar problems, so maybe I do have a funky script.)
I'm wondering if a) there's something native to the form that could change the order of the data and b) there's some straightforward way of controlling that. (I imagine I could write some JavaScript to control the output I had to, but it seems like a needless step.)
Thanks for any insight anyone can provide.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
A solution would be to modify the server script to output in the order you want, as opposed to just looping over the collection of fields present in the incoming data as formmail type scripts typically do.
That is what I wound up doing -- making a copy of the mailing script and reformatting the message body string to contain just the data responses my colleage wanted in the order he wanted. It beats the old method of requiring users to fill out the PDF, save the document and then e-mail in the PDF as an attachment.

  • Is there any way I can control which specific access point I connect (and stay connected) to from amongst a set of access points with the same SSID?

I'm working from a boat in a harbor in which the ISP has deployed numerous access points around the periphery.  All the access points share the same SSID and each is configured to use either channel 1, 6 or 11.   From my location, there are over a dozen of these access points "visible" (based on the the output of WiFi Scanner) with a range of RSSI and S/N values that vary over time.
The ISP has told me that the quality of my connection should be "perfectly fine" for any access point with an RSSI value better than -75, but I know from experience that my connection quality is miserable (i.e. < 50Kbps download) for almost all of these, including those with RSSI values better than -75.  There is at least one exception, however, which gives me on the order of 2Mbps download, which is "great" in this context.
I've tried using a more powerful USB antenna plugged into my MacBook Air (mid 2011), but as far as I can tell, it really doesn't make much difference.  Neither does my location within the boat.   The overriding factor seems to be which access point I happen to connect up to.
I should point out that the closest access points are about 75 yards away, with many of them being several hundred yards away or more.  I'm guessing that even though the signal strength of some of the distant access points is causing them to get "chosen" some times, the results are unacceptable due to the distance.
I'm hoping that I can determine, through experimentation, which access point(s) provide(s) acceptable performance and then configure my Mac to limit my connection to those points through whatever mechanism I need to use (e.g. channel, MAC id, etc.).

Establishing a wireless connection with a client computer is left to the access point for various reasons. One reason that your Mac may not connect to the strongest access point is that it may have reached a limit of the number of clients it can serve, leaving it unable to accept a connection with another. The limit may not be very large.
Suppose that happens, and your Mac establishes a connection with a more distant access point having a weaker signal. Then, suppose a client drops off the network. Doesn't this mean your Mac will switch to the stronger access point? Not necessarily. The throughput delivered to and from your Mac would have to drop below a threshold specified in the AP for it to drop the client, leaving your Mac free to connect with another one. The reason for this is to prevent rapid switching from one AP to another in an area in which two signals are of approximately equal quality. If that were to occur the frequent and repetitive handshaking between the two devices would slow throughput to zero.
In an environment in which several access points are broadcasting the same SSID, Apple provides no insight as to how it determines which access point to choose. This is the reason I suspect this "choice" is a function of the router, or access point. The connection originates with it, not the Mac.
Now, what would solve your dilemma would be to determine a way to control the access point with which your Mac connects, by specifying the access point's unique MAC address for example. In this happy circumstance, you could maintain an editable "whitelist" or "blacklist" of the harbor's access points and be able to choose which among them you prefer.
I do not believe OS X maintains such a record of MAC addresses though, only those of the routers it uses. If I am correct about that, such a solution is unlikely to exist. Don't let that discourage you from searching for one though... I would concentrate on something like "selecting access point by specific MAC address".
I did find this patent application though:
Roaming Network Stations Using A Mac Address Identifier To Select New Access Point
    Perhaps it's a start
