Ways to save your website?

Hi all —
I currently have a website up using iWeb on but would like to keep what I have and then design a new one and put that up for a while as a static page, then put the original back up. How do I "save" my current site and create a new one? Would I have to copy the source file somewhere then copy it back later? I didn't think iWeb worked like any other application i.e. saving a document with a name and creating a new one?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

What you're referring to is like version control. iWeb doesn't have that natively but using iWebSites you can achieve a form of version control.
1 - download and run iWebSites.
2 - select your current site/domain file in iWS and click on the Duplicate button.
3 - select the duplicate site/domain file and rename it with a version number or date or whatever you need to identify it.
4 - select the original site/domain file in iWS, click on Default and open with iWeb. Now this will be the current or new site.
If you want to go back to an earlier version of the site select it in iWS and make it the Default with the button. Open it with iWeb and publish the entire site to replace the current online version.

  • How to save your website without..

I was wondering how to save your data to be always available, without using Muse. I mean after the trail period or month subscription ends, that you still can open or upload it without Muse. Like that you have an backup.

As RoyaltyTech pointed out - yes, you can File>ExportHTML to have the HTML, CSS and image files all brought together in one place and upload them without an subscription or after the trial period is over.
However, as a precauction, as you mentioned "without using Muse" and "still can open...it without Muse" I thought it would be prudent to point out that WITHOUT the orginal artwork / .muse file and the Muse software, you will not be able to open and edit your site later on without a current subscription.

  • The best Way To Save Your Work in Logic Express

Im confussed.. i normally do a regular save in Logic Express. But i see other options like Save Project and im wondering whats the difference and whats the best way to save.

    Hi Smith,
    no fear mate,
Save as a project means that all the files used in the section
will be saved to a folder (audio, midi, plug-ins, automation, presets, samples etc.)
Reference PDF Page 53 - "Saving as Project You can use the File > Save as Project function to save a song or project. If the open song isn’t already a project, the saved song file is assigned “project” status. This allows you to set the Project settings (File > Project > Settings) which determine how imported files are handled. This also makes the project “safe”, allowing you to move or copy the project folder without losing any file references that point to items within the folder. In the Save As Project dialog you can choose, if the project files should be copied or moved into the project folder. "

  • What is the best way to save your itunes library?

What happens if my computor completely crashes and I lose all my files including itunes and all the music I have put on there? Is it possible to save my library to anything so that in such event I am simply able to load my itunes library onto another computor. Any Suggestions??

Hello Rebecca and welcome to discussions,
The very best way is to back it all up onto an external hardrive, using a cloning or back up Application. Using this method - if your computer does crash or fail you can just transfer all the music back to another computer.
You can also back up onto DVDs if you have a burner thats suitable.
Back up back up back up - Always back up. Its always worth doing.
    Hope that helps some.

  • Why do I get a files icon and a Firefox icon when I save a website to my desktop?

When ever I save a website to my desktop I usually get two icons that show up on my desktop. One of the icons is the link to the website the other is a file folder filled with a bunch of files that I don't recognize. If I delete the file folder icon the website icon deletes as well. I have not had this issue before until recently.
Is there a way to save the website to my desktop without the files icon showing up as well?
    It really clutters things up.
    I am using Windows 7.

  • How does one save a website as a functional - links enabled including images PDF

    Hello Friends,
    Can someone please tell me:
Using FF version 3.6.13 - is there a way to save a website in a 'functional' PDF format. Functional meaning the links will work and the images will be illustrated.
Many thanks in advance for any / all info you can share.
    David

No, you would need an addon that provides PDF functionality in or through Firefox.
See this [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=PDF&cat=all&lver=any&pid=1&sort=&pp=20&lup=&advanced= AMO search] for that type of addon.
Any particular reason for it being PDF format, specifically? <br />
MHTML is more of a "web browser" format for saving web pages to a single file. Most web browsers have the capability of reading that file format, and some will even save to that format. For Firefox there are two addons that will add MHTML capabilites.

    Hi eddpie,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I personally would suggest the option to save your iTunes library to an external drive -- because it creates an important backup, and copies the library to your new computer.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527?viewlocale=en_US
    External drive
This option requires more work than Home Sharing, but it creates a backup of your iTunes library on the external drive in addition to moving your content.
Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Because of this, you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod or external drive to move your music to a Windows PC.
Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.
Part 1: Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder
Part 2: Copy iTunes folder from the old computer:
Part 3: Get iTunes ready on your new computer
Part 4: Back up any music that's already on your new computer
Part 5: Copy music to your new computer
Part 6: Add preexisting music that was on the new computer back into the library
I hope this information helps ....

  • Is there any way to save a wifi network so that you don't have to join every time you open your mac?

I was wondering if there was a way to save a wifi network to your macbook so that when I open it everytime I dont have to connect it everytime.

It should remember your networks by default, but in case that option is turned off, go to System Preferences - Network - click Wifi on the left - click Advanced - and tick "Remember networks this computer has joined".
If that is already ticked, your network settings may be corrupt and it may help to create a new location - in the Location menu at the top of the Networks screen, click Edit Locations, add a new named location and try again with the wifi connection.

  • Correct way to save a string within your application?

    Hello all -
I have been facing an issue finding out the correct way to save data (specifically text) within my application (NOT within local storage on the device in a text file). I have been getting mixed up with outdated results from WP7 and others that have just
    very much confused me.
    Details:
I am making a Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime application and need to know how to read and save text that is entered into a textbox, example would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advanced -
    Zack Bowling

    You'll need the following namespace:
    using windows.Storage;
Then save a string in local (or roaming) settings (replace 'local' with 'roaming' to use roaming storage - the data will roam with the user to other devices with the same app installed). Here's a bit of code that shows how to store and retrieve a string
    (works for WinRT 8.1):
    ApplicationData.Current.LocalSettings.Values["settingName"] = "stored string value";
    var msg = new MessageDialog(ApplicationData.Current.LocalSettings.Values["settingName"].ToString(),
    msg.ShowAsync();

  • Best way to build a website with hundreds of pages

What is the best way to build a website with hundreds of pages that include businesses in every city of the U.S. I will be building it in Dreamweaver CS4 and pulling the data from an MS Excel spreadsheet.
I started building it by building the first page and then saving a new page with new data and so on.
There must be a way to pull from the Excel doc without copying and pasting each page of data, and there must be a way to build this site smaller and easier to make changes when needed.
    Thanks

You already have other people addressing the DB issues - so I will bring up the other... You are just saving a copy as a new page and then copy and pasting the changed content into  it?
What you want to do is take the first page, once you have your design done - and save it as a template (file - save as - Dreamweaver Template).
Then you want to select the areas (most likely the divs you have content in) that will have content changed, and select the div or p or whatever element... and go to Insert - Template Objects - Editible Region.
Make sure you don't made editable the areas that are the primary design - such as a logo element, a header image, the navigation etc.  If you want to change those - you would do so by making the change on the template, and then it will automatically update all pages made based on that template.
Once you are done setting up the templates - go to your new page and choose Modify - Templates - Apply Template To Page
Select the template you just created (note it will be placed inside of a new folder titled "templates" automatically by Dreamweaver).
Now, any of the areas you selected to add different content into will be selectable, and you can copy/paste or however you are doing so.
    Good luck

  • Best way to save iMovie Projects

I am using iMovieHD and have about 50 hours of video to import and then to save. I recently bought a LaCie 250G hard drive. I do not know the best way to save these movies which I have imported and edited but since they are in effect out family treasury I would like a good quality. I can al;ways make new iDVDs from the edited iMovie so assume I will not need to save the iDVD projects. Any recommendations?

    Hi Hunting,
"Quciktime" is not a format nor a compression method; QT is "just" a socalled container or warpper, containing many media formats (the .mov suffix is irritating people...), have a look here for an overview how many formats 6 codecs are a "Quicktime" file...
... mpeg4 is just one of them...
    to answer your question:
that depends MUCH on, what you want to do later with your stored movies:
    * dv is highest possible quality with iM files - but: 1h = ~12Gb !!
    * mpeg4 my personal favorite, good pic quality, small file size BUT! as any mpeg-"flavor", it is a lossy compression codec...- in case, you plan to make in two years a nice dvd, that lossy mpeg4 has to be converted into mpeg2 (another lossys format) ...
there are some dvd-standalone player on the market, able to playback ISO-conform mpeg4 files (not in a .mov container, but as .mp4....)
    * in case, you want re-edit, you need to store the iM-projects...
    * the new h.264 is a fanstatstic codec, but too new, as: you need fast Macs for playback and warp-fast Mac for encoding...
    summary/recommendation:
hd drives prices drop; I would store in .dv, three times bigger as a dvd (tento 20 times bigger then a mpeg4...) but best format for "post processing" (edits, dvd burns, website compression, switching to mpeg4, h.264....)
to add some silly ToolTime idea (call me Tim, I'm using it, short in money):
just for storage, you can buy 3,4,5 drives plus ONE empty fw-case; it is very easy to build a drive inside such case (two multi-pin cables); transfer files; build second hd into case... you just store the hds... looks silly, but works important: write onto some paper, what's on that drives...

  • Newspaper layouts cause major usability problems for your website

Think about what happens if a [Web Development|http://www.intellixmedia.com/web-development.htm] page is laid out in a newspaper-type multiple column format. How would visitors read that page? There will be this thin strip of text going down the page. To read it, they will have to scroll down with the browser to read that narrow strip. When they reach the bottom, they will have to scroll upwards again to find the next column to continue reading that same story. And so on. Back and forth, and up and down. In the meantime the rest of the space that they have in their huge monitor is wasted - they cannot use it to speed up their reading because at any one time, only one narrow column is relevant. The frustration and irritation caused by that kind of page will probably rival the annoyance caused by the webmaster mistakes listed in my satirical Seven Ways to Annoy Visitors to Your Website. In reality though, many visitors to such a website probably won't even bother to read the page. Why suffer the punishment when the competition is just a click away? (Bear with me in this section. It may not look relevant to the main topic, but I want to try to address one of the root causes of low-usability sites as a site with a newspaper layout would have been.) Many new web designers want their website to look unique. They want their site to look special and memorable. As such, they have a tendency to come up with all sorts of interesting things to do with their site, including this newspaper layout idea, so that it does not look like every other site on the Internet. Unfortunately, in so doing, as discussed before in my article on Appearance, Usability and Search Engine Visibility in Web Design, they may sometimes inadvertently create websites that cause usability problems as well as search engine indexing issues. Recall the (not so) early days of home desktop computing, when many people used an operating system called MS-DOS. Contrary to what you may think, not all programs that ran on DOS were command-line programs. There were full-screen or windowed programs like the ones you see on Windows and the Mac today. However, the task of learning to use new programs on DOS was not as easy as it is to use a new program on modern operating systems. Every program had their own way of doing things. For example, to save a file, different programs had different keystrokes and menus to accomplish the same task. With modern operating systems, companies like Microsoft and Apple have clearly-defined "Human Inteface Guidelines" for programmers to follow. As a result, the interface of just about every program on your computer is fairly similar. For example, to save a file in Windows, no matter what program you are using, you can simply use the "File" menu and the "Save" item on that menu. Or hit Ctrl+S. Or click the icon that looks like a floppy disk on the toolbar. The standardisation of the interface means that anyone who has learnt how to use one program will also know how to use another. You no longer have to read the manual. After installing a new program, most people can simply grope around and still be able to accomplish their task.
Web design is pretty much the same way. Although there is no overarching organisation to give a user interface guideline to specify that websites are to work a certain way, there are millions (or more) of websites on the Internet that more or less behave the same manner. By their existence and similarity alone, these existing websites have established a de facto standard. Users who know how to navigate a site with one of those standard design styles will also know how to navigate other sites with the same way of doing things. In other words, you don't have to be a web guru or a usability master to create a usable website any more. Just use the trick of following the standard pattern used by other sites - a one, two or three column website with navigation menus in the usual places (top, bottom, left or right), and the main content flowing downwards in the centre, links that work like normal links, and so on. (See my articles on usability if you want more information.) By making your site operate in a standard way, visitors will automatically find your site usable, because they've already learnt it from their past experience with other sites.

I have the same problem, as I can not log into my iCloud via Preference Pane since I changed my password which is verified correct.  Keeps saying "Can not login at this time.  Try to login again."  Or just give the busy signal and eventually no connection.
I looked for the "Networkinterfaces.plist" entry but there is none.  Any other potential solutions would be highly appreciated.
Apple refuses to help unless I pay $49 for their mistake.

  • New STB - Is There a Way to Save Recordings?

Verizon is sending me a new Motorola DVR since they determined my current one has a problem.  Is there a way to save my recordings?  I saw the option to export series to the cloud.  I clicked on it and it said okay.  I don't see an import option unless that only shows up when I get the new box.  Does this actually do anything?  And does it only save the series or will it save my actual recordings too?  Buying an esata drive isn't worth it for me.
Also, they are replacing the box because I suddenly can't get Channel 689 (BBC America HD).  SD works fine, but can't get HD.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I heard from "tns" in this forum that his was fine in VHO 5.  Verizon said there's no outage of which they are aware.
    Thanks.

In general there is no way to move content from one DVR to another. The only thing you can do to 'save' content is to record it to something else like a VCR or DVD.  All outputs on the DVR box are active simultaneously, so you can connect a VCR to either the RF output, or composite Video or S-VHS video and the audio outputs and record from those outputs.
The external drive will NOT allow you to move content. It is permanently  paired with the DVR it is connected to, so the only thing you can do with the external HDD after you change DVR's is re-format the HDD. This is a sore subject..
Before sending back the original DVR, make sure that the new one solves the problem(s). Verizon uses the 'shot gun' approach to trouble shooting, and will try just about anything and everything on your end before considering the possibility that the problem is on their end. In short changing out the DVR may not fix the problem.
