WCF channel closed in Azure VM when running long operations
Hi!
We are hosting a WCF Service on a Azure VM. Now we have a Problem with a web service method that runs longer than ~ 5 minutes. So the web client calls the method, the service starts some calculations and should return a value. But the problem is that the
channel seems to be closed (by Azure itself?) before we finish the calculation an can return the value. We receive following error message:
System.Net.HttpListenerException: The semaphore timeout period has expired
We are using .NET 4.0 and wsHttpBinding. Any idea what causes this problem or how we could solve it?
Hi Thomas,
Base on my experience, the reason for this is that the Load Balancer of Windows Azure Datacenter will silently tear down any idle connection after 4 minutes. You may need expend Keepalive time. I suggest you could refer to this code sample (http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/WCF-Azure-NetTCP-Keep-Alive-09f50fd9
) about how to keep alive channel. Also, you could refer to this document (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/cie/archive/2014/02/14/connection-timeout-for-windows-azure-cloud-service-roles-web-worker.aspx
Hope this helps.

Pc bogs down when running longer, more voluminous queries
Hi we run 2012 enterprise.
I'm noticing that when running longer and higher column count queries locally, other parts of my computer (os w7 professional, 64 bit, 8gb) start getting sluggish. I started looking for wasted disk space and started cleaning up but wonder if here are
some standard steps for keeping other things like browsers, spreadsheets, email etc etc from suffering while longer sql queries r running? It is much worse when ssis is in the picture (even after stopping debugger) but i thought i'd start in this forum.Hello,
That's kind of the point of SQL Server is to use the resources to return the data as quickly and efficiently as possible. It's server based software. I'm not sure which edition you are using, as express is capped in memory usage but if you're using standard
or above you'll want to set the max server memory to something low enough to not impact your other applications (though this could cause disk thrashing and make things worse).
Since SQL Server isn't really made for desktop usage (ok, express edition is kind of) the only thing you can do is kee your queries and data items light and efficient. Tune the queries, use indexes, etc. From the OS side of view there isn't anything
you can do. If you're running enterprise edition (which I highly doubt) you could employ resource governor but why shoot yourself in the foot? Plus Enterprise edition costs more than the desktop and it woul dmake sense to use an actual server.
If you add SSIS into the mix, yes it could (and probably will) perform much worse.

Axis timeout error when running long query
Hi all,
we've encountered a timeout problem trying to call webservice that responses in long delay. Error we got comes from axis library:
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out
As I know, default timeout value for axis is 60 s. Is there any way to change it in XMLP?Hi Tim,
Thanks for the follow-up!
Is there any way we can tweak this manually for now for the version 5.6.2 of XML Publisher? I don't feel like its time now for us to go forward to BI Publisher 10.1.3 since we are late in our delivery but we will certainly evaluate the possibility of upgrading it to 10.1.3 for the next delivery. I just got a SR soft closed saying:
"If they are putting it into 10.1.3.4 then they do not have a fix yet and you are asking for a backport 4 versions back which is unlikely.
But you should ask in the thread."
So thats what I'm doing now, hoping its possible! Up to now, we haven't found any workaround for this issue.
Thanks for your help! -
How can I get sound when running different operating systems in VirtualBox?
I am running VirtualBox in Windows XP, and have been running OpenSolaris, Kubuntu, OpenSuse 11.1, Milax and Windows 7, but I am not getting any sound in any of them. I have no problems with them running, and even ran Windows live in windows 7 without any problems.
I would be grateful if anyone can help me out so that I can get sound, and therefore run them as they are meant to be ran in VirtualBox! I have had a small problem with some video files not running in Linux and OpenSolaris, but I suspect that could be solved with Flash player.
Please someone get back to me and help me with the sound problem as soon as possible,
Thanks
JohnA Windows XP host OS for VirtualBox is not a supported setup for VDI 3.0 (it wouldn't even install). I have never seen your problem with one of my other VB installations. I suggest that you repost your question in a VirtualBox forum: http://forums.virtualbox.org/

Script for azure to shutdown all vm's when running out of money
Hallo! I need to stop all my vm's in azure portal when my balance is 0$ How can i do it? maybe some script?
Hi,
You might not be able to Enable Shutdown when running short of Balance since the Billing is not exposed via Powershell or REST API.
However, if you would like to schedule the Start/Stop of VM as per a schedule, it is indeed possible with Azure Automation Runbook.
You might want to follow the below article to know more about Azure Automation.
http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/automation-create-runbook-from-samples/
Hope this helps !

Weblogic 8.1 SP 6 throws Read channel closed when sending SOAP message
Hi,
I am using Weblogic8.1 SP6 & Axis1 to send SOAP message through RPC call using SSL. This is working intermittently.
I use WLSSLAdapter to set up the SSL, and some properties I set:
System.setProperty("javax.xml.soap.MessageFactory", "weblogic.webservice.core.soap.MessageFactoryImpl");
System.setProperty("javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory", "weblogic.webservice.core.rpc.ServiceFactoryImpl");
System.setProperty("weblogic.webservice.verbose", "true");

WCF Service hosted in Azure Cloud Service errors after published
I have a project with several WCF services (mix of REST and SOAP). The project has been running On-Prem for 6 months without an issue. We are moving this to Azure but have run into an issue that will prevent us from going live.
The project uses Autofac for it's IOC. We are gonig to host this in a Cloud Service in Azure. Everything appears to work correctly when running locally in the Azure Emulator however once we deploy using the Cloud Service project, everything builds
and deploys correctly, but we receive the following error when trying to access a service.

It appears that it's having an issue with the service configuration endpoint. That is registered through Autofac WCF integration using the OOTB RouteTable here:
RouteTable.Routes.Add(new ServiceRoute("Event/Calendar", new AutofacWebServiceHostFactory(), typeof(CalendarSvc)));
All of this works fine in IIS and the local Azure emulator, but once deployed to the cloud service is where we get an issue.I don't know Autofac. What is it doing? If you use a normal WCF REST service, or ASP.NET Web API, do you see the same issue? If it does work, you may want to post a question on Autofac's forum:

Hi,
starting a couple of weeks ago, we get the following error(s) when running applications from a network share. We don't know what causes this, we are not aware of any major changes in our network infrastructure or client/Server configuration. We did upgrade
a lot of machines to Windows 8, but the issue also occurs on older Win7 computers.
We figured out a workaround though: The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share (like
\\share.domain.Company.com) and only cause problems when running from
\\share directly. They have worked fine for years without FQDN though.
Any ideas?

>>The applications run fine when launching from a FQDN share
It sounds like a DNS suffix issue. When this issue occurs, please try to ping share on the client, then check if the corresponding IP address is correct. If the IP address is wrong, please adjust your settings of DNS to make sure that the client can resolve
the share correctly.
If it's very hard to change the settings of the DNS for some reason, as a work around, we can add the entry into the clients' hosts file.
Best Regards.

Error when running trx S_ALR_8709918
Hi there,
Please assist me with transaction S_ALR_8709918, program RAKOPL02 in ECC6.
We are currently in fiscal year 2009 and trying to forecast depreciation for year 2010
When running the report, we get the error below,
Fiscal year 2010 is already closed in Financial Accounting.
Message no. AA669
Diagnosis
You have initiated a recalculation of asset values for fiscal year 2010. However, fiscal year 2010 is still open is Asset Accounting, but not in Financial Accounting.
System Response
Due to this inconsistency between the General Ledger and the the subsidiary ledger, processing is terminated.
Procedure
Close fiscal year 2010 in Asset Accounting as well.
We cannot close 2010 in AA because it means we have to close 2009 as well.
Youy assistance would be highly appreciated
Thanks
Ledile

Error when running a script using upsshell.exe
I have a simple custom script which is
Sub Test1()
Set fso= CreateObject("Scripting.filesystemobject")
Set ts = fso.CreateTextFile("D:\DATA\****\Outbox\Templates\Test.txt")
ts.writeline "hi"
End sub
When I am running it manually in workbench, the script runs fine but when I try to run it using upsshell.exe(command provided below)
D:\Oracle\MIDDLE~1\EPMSYS~1\products\FINANC~2\SHARED~1\upsShell.exe CustomScriptEx=****~admin~****~~****~D:\DATA\test\Outbox\Logs~Test1~1033~0
i get the following error

Any ideas on the error?Hello Verdulken,
I have a few additional questions:
Does your application function correctly when running the LabVIEW operator interface you have created as a VI in the LabVIEW development environment (i.e. does this problem only occur when the LabVIEW operator interface is run as an executable)?
What is the error that you are receiving?
Regarding the VI that you open programmatically, do you open it in a visible manner (i.e. use the Show front panel when called option from VI Properties)? If so, do you also close this VI after it finishes (i.e. use the Close if originally closed option from VI Properties)?
Does the error occur on the step that calls this very same VI again later in the sequence?
Does your application function correctly if you use the development adapter for all of your calls?
Thank you in advance for this information,
Matt G.
