We need new: Grids and Guides Panel.

We need these panels. To set up grid you gotta go to the preferences. What the heck.
View - New Guide. Over and over.
Give us simple things
No video, 3d, adaptive wide angle. When we don't have layer guides. Guides are crap in PS. Every other CS app has decent gudies. Not PS.
I don't want to use third party plugins for the basic stuff

Related, and this is pretty great: GuideGuide
Photoshop should ship with something like this.

  • Permanently hide grids and guides

    Hi
We use InCopy CS2 at our office. As a writer/editor I have no need to see the grids and guides, so have to turn them off every time I open InCopy. Is there a way to permanently make them go away?

I don't have CS2 installed any longer, but check the View menu for these two things: Hide Frame Edges, and Grids & Guides > Hide Guides.

when updated to 9.1.7 from 9. I need new serial and the old serial number doesn't work. How can i solve this?

There was no new serial needed to update from Logic 9 to 9.1.7
If your Logic 9 was an upgrade from Logic 8 it may be asking you for your original Logic 8 Full serial first and then your Logic 9 Upgrade serial...
Otherwise, it's best to call Apple directly and get them to help you...

  • Print Visible Grids and Guides

    Hi everyone,
I'm using InDesign CS3 5.0.4,  If i export to direct pdf the check box of Print visible grid and guides is enabled,   But to make the postscript file the mentioned option is disabled.
Please guide me how to enable this option in the InDesign
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nagaraj

... I don't have a special profile. I almost never directly print, but Export to PDF exclusively. And if you use that instead, you can choose any of the standard presets -- High Quality, Press Quality, etc. -- no printer dependent settings.
The print options inside InDesign and Acrobat are (partly) optional, depending on the printer driver you happen to have installed.

  • Automatic grids and guides by percentage

    Hi all,
I produce a high quantity of work to a predetermined template and have been looking at ways to automate parts of the process, particularly with regards to setting grids and guides. I believe that it should be possible, but seems to be well beyond my (very, very limited) scripting knowledge. The particular processes are as follows:
The first thing I do when I begin anew is to go into Preferences > Grids and enter a value equivalent to 1% of the grid width into the Horizontal field and 1% of the height into the Vertical field. I then set the subdivisions for each to 1, producing a grid with 100 rows and 100 columns of 1% of the total document size.
The next thing I do is to calculate 6% of the document width and enter that figure into the Left and Right fields of the Margins and Columns dialogue box, found in the Layout menu. I will also enter 1% of the document height into the Bottom field.
Through these two methods I arrive at a good starting point for my work. The sizes of the grids and guides differ with the document sizes, but are always the same percentages of the total size. This seems like something that InDesign scripting should be able to handle but I can't find any suitable scripts or even begin to get my head around how to create such a thing.
I'm using InDesign CC 2014. Furthermore, it doesn't matter if the margins are created with the Margins and Columns functionality or are just guides.
If anybody has any suggestions, or can even vaguely point me in a direction that might help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Dear Dina,
Please give your valuable input for this query...
    thanks a lot n advance...

  • Need new computer and considering Mini.

I have a 3 year old Dell PC with 2.4 GHz core duo processor (desktop).  I want a new computer and am considering a Mini but am wondering just how much faster a dual core i5 2.5GHz would really be.  I am not interested in spending the extra money on the mini server.  I only use a computer for limited accounting work and web browsing.  Always had a PC but after getting an iPad and iPhone I am leaning towards Mac.  The mini seems like a nice use of space for someone who uses computers so infrequently (figured I would just hook it up to my TV).  Not interested in laptops because I do not need the portability you pay so much extra for with them.
Interested in hearing other's thoughts on if the mini would meet my needs and just how much of a step up from a 3 year old dell it would really be.  I am concerned it is still using dual core as opposed to quad. I hate to buy something using already obsolete tech.

.....It's a big chunk of change to spend right now for me so I don't want to be buying something that is obsolete in a year .....
Technically, anything you buy today in computing will
be outdated next year by faster, more energy efficient
    devices (maybe even next month).
As far as obsolete,  it depends on what you use the
computer for and what you percieve as making your
    computer obsolete.
I know folks that are still using Pentium Win2K machines
and are quite content with them, but that is because of
    how they use them.

I want to know how to specify a guide position AFTER changing the origin.  I have moved zero, yet every time I drag or specify a guide, it shows or places in the reference to the original origin.  NOT what I expected!  CS6.
That bugs me, too. Thankfully, the X,Y coords in the Info Panel are relative to the rulers origin, but having to watch that defeats the purpose of the pointer coords display.
    Other problems with coords...
The pointer coords display doesn't show when dragging the origin.
"View > Snap To > Layers" and "View > Snap To > Document Bounds" are ineffective when dragging the origin
"View > Snap To > Layers" is ineffective when dragging guides.
For some objects being dragged, the Info Panel coords will go blank when the pointer goes off the canvas.
When a transformation pivot is being dragged, the Info Panel coords do not update. The pointer coords display does update, but as noted above, that does not honour a non-default origin.
(Note to self: stop whatever I'm doing and report these problems as soon as they're noticed.)

  • Start up disk is full, and need new storage and back up strategy

I am maxed out on nothing my iMac and Mac book pro and recognise I need to introduce a new external hard drive into the equation.
I currently have an apple time capsule with 2gb drive, that backs up the 600g iMac and 250g mac book.
I would like to understand if I could point applications such as iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie towards an external drive ( as long as it is always connected to either the machine...or perhaps network so all machines have access to the external drive)....and hopefully I would also be able to access my iTunes library ( on the external drive) via an Apple TV...without any fuss.
I would also like to use my apple time capsule to back up from both the iMac and Mac book internal drives...as well as recognising the data on the external drives that points to the respective computers.....eg the iTunes library etc.
    Is this at all possible???
If so, which external hard drive solutions should I use ( I have seen some mention synology...but looked at the website, and so many models and not sure what I would need)???
And how would I go about lifting and shifting data, redirecting applications to read and write to external drives, and getting time capsule to back up as above.....and possibly even have an additional back up strategy that allows me to take regular copies of all hard drives and keep content in an off site location for data security...possibly in a bootable format???
Welcome all help and advice please.

You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Other things you can do to gain space.
Once you have around 15 GBs regained, do a search, download and install OmniDisk Sweeper.
This app will help you locate files that you can move/archive and/or delete from your system.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
    Good Luck!

  • PowerBook G4 probably needs new battery and power jack. Worth the repair?

I have a PowerBook G4 that is about 4.5 years old, with a 1.33 GHz Processor, 512 MB RAM, and a 60 GB HD. I got a new MacBook Pro recently, so I'm trying to sell this old PowerBook, but there are a couple problems with it.
One is that it still has the battery the computer came with, so it's safe to say that it's dead. Another problem is that there's a minor dent on the side by the power jack that makes the interface a bit fussy. Sometimes it needs to be fiddled with to contact correctly. So, in addition to a new battery, the external casing (and/or the DC-in) may need to be repaired, and I know doing so is few hundred dollars. Is it worth it for this computer? It's going on 5 years old, so I'm wondering if other things (like the hard drive), are going to fail soon.

Is it worth it for this computer? It's going on 5 years old, so I'm wondering if other things (like the hard drive), are going to fail soon.
Looking at ebay, there are two Powerbook 1.33Ghz models with bids between $185 and $249. If you're looking to sell it, and the hard drive is operating fine now, it's longevity shouldn't be a concern. That said, notebook hard drives do seem to have a higher failure rate the 3-5 year range than desktop drives.
Replacing the lower case, DC-in card, and new battery can run you around $450. You'd almost be better off taking it to Apple, to see if they'd send it to the Apple depot for around $325 to repair the DC-in problem. (I just sent one to the Apple depot for a logic board replacement, and they replaced the battery, too). Even so, you might have difficulty recouping that in a sale.
It does have Leopard, which may help the price you might get when you sell it.

  • Need new battery and DVD burner for T61

    Hi,
I need a new battery.  Old one has totally died and won't hold a charge.
The burner is a different story.  Sometimes it will read discs other times it won't read at all, so I'm thinking it's on its way out.  Can someone supply correct part numbers?  Do you need the current part numbers of the parts that I have?
    Thx
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
if you have a 14.1" 4:3 standard screen or 15.4" T61, you will need the T60 type battery now commonly referred to as battery 41+ 6-cell or 41++ 9-cell by Lenovo marketing. If you have a 14.1" widescreen T61, you will need battery 33 4-cell, 33+ 6-cell or 33++ 9-cell.
Here is a useful post with some detailed information I shared with someone else facing similar T61 DVD Burner issues: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-prior-T-series-ThinkPad/optical-drive/m-p/1077041#M67668. As for part numbers, you will some listed in T61 System Service parts here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67911#16. I.B.M./Lenovo loves to use many different part numbers for the same component based on the different manufacturers and different Thinkpad models. But basically, what you need is the Ultrabay Slim (PATA) type DVD Multi-Burner which fits T61, R61, T60, x60 dock, x61 dock, etc.: ThinkPad DVD Ultrabay Slim Burner - Overview.
If you need, I have all of these parts available, including New and used Genuine Lenovo T61 batteries and DVD Burners at terrific prices. I have sent you a PM with more info. Check you "New" messages at the top of this page
Have a great day. (I do not work for Lenovo)

  • New iPod Nano need new cradle and lanyard

Am I the only one that thinks Apple could make the new Nano use the old cradle and lanyard? I have bought six iPods and it seems like Apple rips you off by making you buy new everything each time. I love the product but come on, you don't make enough money so you have to change the hook up's by less than 1/4" of an inch so we have to spend an extra $200 to $300 dollars. I have hook up's at home, office and cars and I have to replace everyone. I wonder if that ZUNE will do the same thing.

Make sure you have deleted all remnants for iTunes and Quicktime. Also, be sure to delete everything in your C:\Temp file and download iTunes and Quicktime separately then install them.

  • Need new virus and security software, Virex and eupdate no working

I would like suggestions on getting some software for virus and spam filters .
The Virex 7.5 keeps saying "Health check component is not responding"
and the Eupdate says "unable to connect to server" restart or reinstall".
    Done.
I have not received any updates for either program.
I know Norton has mac programs out here, I basically only do the following:
Itunes, Iphoto, Mail thru Charter cable and a Mac account (Safari and Explorer) , netscape .
I have been getting a lot of spam lately, In the past I got maybe one or two a month now I get 4or 6 a day.
I have also been getting phony Paypal notices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel very open to a problem.
    Thanks, greg

For the email account/address you are receiving a lot of spam with lately, do you use this email address when making online purchases, for any website access or provided with/for any other "public" purposes?
Do you automatically render all HTML received? If so and a spammer uses embedded images or objects that must be rendered/downloaded from a remote server, this can indicate to the spammer that your email address is valid causing even more spam to be received.
Antivirus software will not help with preventing the receipt of spam and phisher emails such as the phony PayPal and other type email trying to gain access to your bank or credit card information.
Check Why was I "spammed" at my .Mac Mail address?. The same applies to any email account.
Virex 7.5 is not compatible with Tiger. Regarding Antivirus software for OS X, check Macs, viruses, and anti-virus software.
