Web based vs email discussion lists

This might not be the right forum, i.e., Safari works great (and if there is a better forum for this, please direct me). I cannot understand why some people cannot tolerate web based discussion groups (much like the apple.com discussion site): they insist on using email discussion groups. I don't mind using email, but I'd rather have everything stored on some web site so I don't need to get extra emails and it's much easier (usually) to search for something on a web based discussion site. Is it like some people can only use cash and cannot use credit cards? Or is there something else I am missing?

I'd rather have everything
stored on some web site so I don't need to get extra
emails and it's much easier (usually) to search for
something on a web based discussion site.
Email can be an awfully lot faster and more efficient than logging into various websites, plowing through lists of messages in various forums, finding new ones, waiting for servers and browsers to do their thing, etc. The mailing lists I subscribe to have extremely fast and accurate web-based archive searches that go back as far as anyone would want.
On the other hand, groups with a high volume of lengthy messages can become very tedious via email, and I think these are better off in web format.
The important thing is not the format but what you need to accomplish. Anyone who thinks they can get help with Apple stuff from some mailing list or newsgroup that comes anywhere near what is available from this and other web-based forums is badly mistaken, I think.

  • Looking for an email discussion lists script.

HI! I am looking for a email discussion lists script that
    works on a windows
platform. I have looked on Google but only found Mailman
    which is good but
only works on UNIX/Linux. The other I found has to be
    installed via a
setup.exe which is only good if you own and have direct
    access to your own
    server.
Does anyone out there know of a email discussion lists script
    in ASP or PHP
or similar that uses an ms-access or ms-SQL database and
    works on a windows
    platform?

    Hi,
For a better troubleshooting, I suggest you do as the followings:
    1. Check the ULS log for more detailed error message, for SharePoint 2013, the ULS log is located at the path:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
You can use ULS Log Viewer to check the information in the log.
    2. You can use fiddler to track if there is something wrong in the workflow request.
Here are some detailed articles about debugging workflow:

  • How can I attach a document saved in my iCloud to a web based outlook email on my IPad?

How can I attach a document saved in my iCloud to a web based outlook email on my IPad?

Thanks Nik and Roger. I think we've all come to the same realization: the new Pages will not attach documents to e-mail without going through Cloud. If you don't want to give your files to Apple to keep in its Cloud (which I assume the NSA has access to through a back door), then you can't use the new Pages.
If, like me, you downloaded the new Pages and used it to work on a document, before realizing you couldn't attach it to e-mail, then when you saved that document it was saved in the new Pages. If you later delete the new Pages (as I did) and go back to using an older version (which you can find in your iWorks file on your hard drive), then you discover that the older version of Pages won't open a document that you worked on and saved with the new Pages.
Nik and Roger have found the solution, if you keep the new Pages. If you delete the new Pages (as I did) then I had to accept the loss of any work I did on my documents using the new Pages, and began over using the latest version of my document that I had saved with the older Pages.
All in all, this has really soured my tase for Apple. If I hadn't recently bought a new MacBook Pro, I'd be switching to a PC now. I refuse to let Apple bully me into using their Cloud.

  • Using Nightly to access web-based email - Won't allow me to send an attachment - Please Help

I sometimes need to access my email through a browser. When using nightly I have, on several, been unable to send a file attachment. A few minutes ago I got a pop-up that said that nightly was blocking all attachments for security reasons. - The popup disappeared before I was able to read it fully. The attachment was an innocuous document from a standard word processor with no macros or other potentially hazardous content. I do, from time to time, need to send attachments to colleagues using a web-based email interface. How can I get Nightly allow this?
    Thanx in advance.

    HI CosmicWolf,
In about:settings please check the list of pop up exceptions under Content. It is also possible to click on the icon next to the url and look at "Page Info". From this menu under Permissions see is pop ups are blocked.
Its a bit hidden, but it can be changed. [[Pop-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting]]

Compiling from command line I found out that the class definition for oracle.oats.scripting.modules.basic.api.IteratingVUserScript is missing. Do you know what .jar file contains this class?

  • How can I protect files from being uploaded to the internet/web-based email or being written to a disc/flash drive?

I work for a company that want to update itself to this century.  I got all our PC upgraded to Windows 7 and networked into a homegroup.  We want to use a web-based appointment scheduler but this means giving our users web access.  The main
concern is our .mdb files.  We have anti-virus/anti-spyware to protect us from infiltration but we want to safeguard against personnel selling our client list; At least make it more difficult, just a precautionary measure.  Do I need additional software
or is it something that I can do in Windows setting?  Or do I need a file encryption service that works in conjunction with Windows Access?  Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance.

There is technology known as RMS which you could set series of policies like only members in the company could access certain documents and if someone copy them and attempt to run them in another PC or outside company, it won't work. Take a look at:

  • How do I get "mailto:" links to work with my web based email?

I use the web based email from godaddy.com called workspace. I can't get the mailto: links to work with firefox. I did find a code that makes the correct compose window to open up but it doesn't input the email address.
Also, a related problem with my email is that you can't copy an email address and then paste the email address into the email. Pasting is not allowed with firefox but works ok with Internet Explorer

  • How can I save a file from an email  on an iPad to upload to my web based ap

I use my iPad in my business, I get emails sending me files that I then need to upload up to my Salesforce.com web based application. I can't see where I can either save the file to or pick the file up from ?  Is there a way to do this or is at an iPad limitation ?

    Hi,
What is the mail app that you use to read emails on your iPad?  Is it Apple Mail?
Would you take a look at the Mail section of the following FAQ document to see if it answers your question?

  • INotes web based emails

Why I can't print all my iNotes web based emails in one go to PDF file? Error message "There was an error processing a page. There was a problem reading this document (109)" always appear and give no solution

Hi Bernd, thanks for replying. As my company mailbox size is limited, I need to archive my iNotes emails by printing in PDF format; but it can't be print in one go, seems like it can't take more than 30 pages per print, is this common? I would think it must be able to print all in one go irregardless of the number of pages, right? Please enlighthen me, thanks much!

  • Web-based mail program as default for emailing photos?

I'd prefer to use my gmail account to send photos, rather than my Mail account. But the options are only for Mail, Entourage, and AOL, I think.
I can't seem to figure out how to do this any other way than from gmail, click "attach a file" and browse through my directories and select each individual photo. This would be fine, except that the attachments are enormous and I can't figure out how to resize them to a manageable size.
So, to summarize. Is it possible to use a web-based mail program as your iphoto default? If not, how can I shrink the size down to 240X320 or 640X480, or somewhere in that range?
    I'm using iphoto 4.0.3. Thanks.

There are programs that allow you to designate a web mail page for the default email program (WebMailer for one). I would guess they should work the same jumping from iPhoto, but don't know how well they'd work at attaching an image since that is usually a process specific to how the page is designed.
Probably, it'd be easiest to leave Mail as the default email app with Gmail set as the default account, for situations like this, and use the regular webmail interface when you're not planning to attach an image if you like that interface more.

  • Replying to a web-based email shows html code in the area where the response should be typed

this problem still exists and I am tired of trying new versions, then having to uninstall them and go back to version 5. Now you FORCE me to upgrade to version 7 where my web based email doesn't work. So looks like I will switch browsers to Chrome. You shouldn't automatically force and upgrade on anyone - especially if you haven't fixed the bugs in it!!!
I posted this problem before and no one answered it - so I don't expect a reply to this one either. Too bad, cause I liked Firefox.

This is an issue for me too and everytime I upgrade on a different computer it pops up - very annoying and I posted a request for support but never received an answer - not even an acknowledgment. I like Firefox - don't want to change and it only happens in my web based email but I may have to switch browsers too.

Sorry I have no solution but this happened to me after Hulu told me to clear my browser cache (history) to be able to watch a video that stopped abruptly (Hulu lied; you rarely need to clear the cache.)
You can back up your browser history to keep this from being a problem in the future.
