Web fonts for non-Roman languages

The Add Web Fonts dialog in Muse makes it easy for me to find fonts for English and other languages that use the Roman writing system. I need to find fonts for Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Thai, and possibly other systems too.
Is there a way to search for such fonts, and to preview fonts in the language in which they will be used?

no because they're not avalible, i think. if live text doesn't matter to you you can just use the fonts localy on your computer and muse will generate a picture of the text area using that non roman font. else if you know your way around code you can just replace the fonts in the css. as for writing in arabic, it'll probably have the same problem as writing in hebrew where muse might align right but you can't set a text box to a RTL direction which means that whatever you write in websafe fonts (if they even exsist, i've no idea) will display in LTR direction. which you can go on and change later in css per text box. another thing you might want to remember before writing in arabic selecting some very spesific font is that since the text boxes turn to images you won't be able to change the direction later on because it's no longer live text.
hope it helps.

  • Export web fonts for copyright watermark

I'm rebranding my photography website in Muse. I'm using a web font for the name of my business. I want to use the name as a watermark and have it match the website for consistent branding. What's the best way to do this? I used a screen capture but that's less than ideal. thank you.
[Moved from the generic Cloud forum to the specific Program forum... Mod]

You should be able to use that same font in any of the Adobe Creative Cloud programs. So you can add the watermark to your images with Photoshop or Lightroom.

  • Custom Installation for non European languages

    Hi,
While installing JRE (particularly 1.4.2_XX ) in custom mode, second option enables user to support for additional languages.
The disk size requirement is 18 MB but after installation i figured out that it takes ~8 MB.
As per documentation at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/intl/locale.doc.html#jfc-table , it states that JDK on windows has language support installed as a default but for JRE custom installation is required.
I have following question related to this installation
    - What files are updated with this installation? I found few files e.g. charset.jar , font files are installed within JRE installation directory.
    - Does this installation updates/adds any Windows System files/font/registry?
The question has arrived as our Swing application hangs with JRE and works fine with on JDK on event of inserting thai character into JTextPane.
Any help will be highly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Advait

    Hello Advait,
The custom feature you are refering to is related to this RFE:
4508848 "Small" J2RE for Windows should include Western European languages
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4508848
It implies selecting "support for additional languages" would include lib/charset.jar and lib/ext/localedata.jar.
This feature was also described in http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/changes.html
    Internationalization
The following changes have been made to internationalization functionality in J2SE 1.4.2.
    * Installation of the J2RE on Windows has changed, with impact on the supported locales. There now is a single installer, which by default installs a runtime with support for European languages if the Windows host system only supports such languages, or a runtime with support for all languages if the Windows host system supports at least one non-European language. Users can request installation of additional languages in a custom setup. For complete information on which locales and encodings are supported with which installation, see the Supported Locales and Supported Encodings documents. For general information, see internationalization.
Regarding your second question, I received the answer from our install engineer:
Yes, the installer creates many registries, and we copy java.exe/javaw.exe/javaws.exe to the Windows system directory.
I am not sure why your Swing application hangs with JRE. Did you select the "support for additional language" option during installation? (I assume you did, correct?)
    thanks,
    miko

I believe your conversion programs should work regardless of the language the data is stored in, as long as the database and Apps use UTF8 characterset. To the code, data is data, whether it is in English or in another language. Your approach should be to test your conversion programs in test instances and tweak them as necessary. Are there specific concerns you have with using data in other languages ?

  • Bing based federated result sources not returning any results for non-English languages

I have a result source with this query:
    http://www.bing.com/search?q={?searchterms}  language:fr site:msdn.microsoft.com&format=rss&count=50&first={startIndex}
This used to give me 40-50 results for common terms like download, blog etc.
From today (7/14) IST, this source does not return any results. There are no results if I execute this query directly in IE either.
Same behavior observed for: language:es, language:de etc.
I do however get results as expected for language:en.
Any idea what the issue might be?

    Hi Swapnil,
According to your description, my understanding is that no results returned when searching with non-English in the Result Source query.
I tested the same scenario per your post and I got the same results as you got.
I recommend to change the language:fr in the Result Source query to be lang=fr to see if the issue still occurs.

  • "Bad" markup for non-English language in JSF

    Hi,
the question emerged in "Problem ADF af:document i18n" thread, but, as I saw, it is more common, so I made this new thread. The question seems very simple, but by the moment I can't find an answer and it makes me doubt about the ability to use JSF...
    The sequence of my actions.
    1. My OS locale is russian (ru) (codepage windows-1251).
    2. Create a new application in JDev.
    3. Create an empty project in JDev.
    4. Create a new jsf page. JDev suggests windows-1251 encoding, creates faces-config.xml and so on.
    5. Place outputText JSF HTML component on the page. JDev creates the following markup: <h:outputText value="outputText1"/>.
    6. Change value="outputText1" to "text_in_russian".
    7. Run the page!
The result looks OK, text is displayed correctly, but, if you look at the source code, though codepage is windows-1251, all russian symbols are encoded like & # 1058;& # 1077;& # 1082;& # 1089;& # 1090; (i put spaces, as otherwise you'd see russian letters: &#1058;&#1077;&#1082;&#1089;&#1090;). As far as I understand, this means overrun of traffic and besides I don't like the idea that my pages are so "untidy" behind.
I specified default locale in faces-config.xml file, changed encoding and so on, but result was the same: everything looks fine, but entities instead of letters in html code.
By the way, if I specify russian text, where it is not rendered, it is seen normally. But, if it is a rendered text, no matter, how - by outputText, inputText component or, for example, af:document or af:panelPage - entities instead of letters in the source code.
    Do you have any ideas?
    Thanks in advance, Valeriy

    Hello, <br>
resulting page is windows-1251 encoded - that's OK.
If I write page using, say, just HTML (in Notepad) or JSP, every symbol would take exactly 1 byte - in windows-1251 encoding, all Russian letters, are, of course, encoded with 1 byte. I would use entities or escape-sequences only for special characters, like copyright. And this is the behaviour I expect from JSF - since I use windows-1251 encoding for my pages, it must use 1 byte for russian letters. Why use entities or escape-sequences if letters are normally preseted with 1 byte?<br>
For example, similarly, english letters are too can be written using & # xxxx, but, I think, everybody would be very surprised to look at the source code, resulting from JSF, and see that all english letters are written using & # xxxx. - again, why use entities and escape-sequences, if it is posible to make resulting HTML markup more understandable and consuming less space?<br>
JSTL tags, for example, c:out, use "right" markup - exactly 1 byte for russian letters. Can I get such behaviour with JSF?<br>
Imagine situation I described with english letters: you place, say, <h:outputText value="outputText1"/> in your code and expect to receive something like <span>outputText1</span>, but receive <span>& # xxxx; & # xxxx; & # xxxx;1</span>, while it is possible to use 1 byte for letter! Besides a "bad" look, this page will weight, say, 200K instead of 50K!<br>
And the question is russian language must not be special for windows-1251 encoding!<br>
I found such question at several forums, no decision found yet... And besides there can be JavaScript problems...<br>
    Waiting for your response

  • Has FM 9 or 10 a better working dictionary for non-english languages?

I am using FM 7 (latest update) on Windows Vista.
As it is now, there's a limit of how many characters a word can have for it to be entered into the dictionary. We here in Sweden have 3 letters that are not present in the English language, å, ä and ö. In the dictionary these letters are replaced with 4 (!) characters each:
    å is replaced by \x8c
    ä is replaced by \x8a
    ö is replaced by \x9a
If I have a long word containing a couple of those letters, it wont be added into the dictionary. That means that it doesn't alert me of misspellings and it hyphenates totally crazy. The only way to get around the crazy hyphenation is to add the - manually, and that is just not good at all. If I then add or remove words before there's a 100 % chance that I will miss removing the -.
We are thinking about upgrading to version 9 or 10. Is there a solution for this there? Is there still a limit? Don't they understand that other dictionaries are used and that some languages have longer words than the English language?

    Lena,
The workaround is a bit ugly because you don’t get any useful feedback in the marker dialog, but it works. The following images (made with FrameMaker 7.2) show the marker dialog before and after clicking "Edit Marker"
and the appearance in a List Of Markers document with visible special characters in a wide and in a narrow column.
In the wide column you can see the special symbol which is the placeholder for the discretionary hyphen. If this does not appear, try to reenter \x04 in the dialog.

  • Blackberry 10 Navigator ridiculous errors for Non-English languages

Last week I had the chance of thoroughly testing the navigator during my one week vacation. I'm a Dutch speaking Belgian with a BB10 Q5 with Dutch language selected. While driving to the French speaking part of my country I noticed that the voice announced all instructions in Dutch but switches over to French for the road names and numbers. While leaving the French speaking parts and going in to the German part, same thing happens in German. This is quite ridiculous and my language prefs should stay in my selected language, no matter where I drive.
This got me thinking: it would mean if I use the navigator in Greece, every road number would be stated in Greek. I know enough French and German to get by, but the navigator would be totally useless in countries of which I don't speak the language. I've been looking out for an offline GPS navigator for BB10, but did not find any suitable replacement. Have others experienced this behavior?

  • Correct quotes for non-english languages?

RH8 ignores the language setting of my project and inserts English quotes (“..“) instead of German ones („..“). Is there an easy way to insert a lower quote („) without doing it manually in the HTML code?

Hi Mike, I am not changing the language settings. I have a project with a certain global language setting and write text. As you may know, different languages use different types of quotation marks (French, German..). In RoboHelp I see no other way than to manually insert each single quotation mark as a symbol, whereas all text processing programs I know provide the correct quotation marks automatically - I do not think there is anything magic to this. Maybe there is a setting to activate smart quotes that I have simply overlooked?

  • ADF table sorting for non-english language

    Hi,
I have an issue with sorting in af:table. When I click on column header data are sorted, but not quite correctly. If word begins with polish character e.g. Ł,Ś,Ć, etc.., this row is located at the end, after 'Z'.
How can I implement correct sorting?

RoboHelp itself, whilst it does support over 35 different languages
does not support Persian or Arabic.

  • If I use a web font in my website can I use the same font for printed materials such as business car

I am a graphic designer intending to design a portfolio website in Adobe Muse. I plan to use TypeKit web fonts to design my website. Upon completioin of the website I intend to design business cards and my resume to match the look of my website. I would like to use the same fonts as I used on the website. Is it possible to use web fonts for printing purposes? If not, what do people typically do in this situation. The last thing I want to do is use a font that "looks" like the ones used on my website.

    Hi redsoxfan15b,
(I think I may have replied to your Typekit Support ticket earlier today, but I will post the same information here to be certain.)
We have recently added a new feature to Typekit that allows you to sync fonts to your desktop and use them in print design. The announcement on our website has more information:
    http://blog.typekit.com/2014/01/16/the-fonts-you-love-from-typekit-now-on-your-desktop/
Font sync is available on any Typekit Portfolio, Performance, or Business plan.  Here is a list of all the font available for desktop use:
    https://typekit.com/fonts?licenses=desktop
We are continuing to license more of the library for desktop use, but for now you should confirm that the font you would like to use it available for both web and desktop.  And if there is a font you'd like to use that isn't available for desktop sync, you may also be able to purchase a license directly from the foundry.
I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions!  Best,
