Web Intelligence - general

CA Forum: WebIntelligence Reporting
Hi!
I installed BO Enterprise XI edition - server and client (on separate computers).I also installed LiveOffice and activated it in CMC (via licence key). After that, as expected, in new MS Office 2007 I got additional tools - 'Insert Live Office doc'. My problem is that one is not able to insert Desktop intelligence document *.rep into word/excel document. What is workaround, or what was I'm doing wrong? I can import Web intelligence, but what is that (I didn't get it as a part of BO Enterprise Edition!)thanks.

This has been an issue for a number of releases.
BOE WISHLIST : the Enterprise Administrator should have a built-in CMC tool for managing USER PREFERENCES (including setting DEFAULTS for new Users).
Until that finally happens, this seems to be the best way to work-around it...

  • Can i insert data in my database from a web intelligence report?

if that's not possible, can I do it from a stored procedure based Universe or with a derived table? Does BusinessObjects in general allow me to execute statements to insert data in my database?

    Hi Erika,
afaik it is not possible write back to database from web intelligence .
from dashboards with web services you can achieve this.

  • How Web intelligence is differ from Crystal reports

How Web intelligence is differ from Crystal reports

it depends on what's the business requirement that will influence what kind of reporting format you want to use.
    to list few differences:
    1. CR more suitable for complex reports webi used more for general adhoc tor quick reporting.
    2. CR can be published to enterprise or can be saved to the disk and can be accessed using crystal reports SDK: CRJ or CR.NET. Where as webi is strictly accesses only via Enterprise. There are no webi SDKs for accessing webi reports in unmanaged ( not published to enterprise) mode.
    3. CR SDK\ RAS more powerful than Report Engine SDK( used for webi)
    4. To view a CR you can use page server and cache server. To view a webi report, you use only webi processing server, no cache server available in BO framework. Similar for scheduling webi reports its the webi processing server that does it all.
    5.  CR offers more options to connect to database than for webi.
    6. CR has mutliple 3rd party exporting formats. Webi has fewer.
    7. CR can be designed from CR designer desktop tool, or CR.com or on demand or using RAS SDK ( at runtime). Webi report can be designed in webi rich client desktop tool or java reporting panel( JRP) available in Infoview or any app that can load this JRP applet. in 3.1 you can use Java Report Engine SDK to create webi report from scratch at runtime ( like RAS for CR).
So not that 1 is better than other, it really depends on your business requirements are.

  • Refresh of Data in Xcelsius from Web Intelligence Results

    Hello,
I am new to the forum but not to Business Objects/Xcelsius.  I attended the SAP Sapphire Event last May and spent time in the Business Objects lab.  Two Product Managers demonstrated how I would be able to refresh the data in an Xcelsius dashboard using Live Office by retreiving results from a Webi document without refreshing the Webi query.
For example, my Webi document contains 100,000 result rows.  I want to be able to select a dropdown in my dashboard and have Live Office retreive only a subset of the 100,000 rows.  This being done without having the Webi query being refreshed from the database.  The Webi query would be refreshed nightly.
The Product Managers advised that this functionality would be available in Service Pack 3 or before.  As of now I cannot find out how to make this work.  Any help or information would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello Charles,
WebIntelligence Input Controls are a way to enhance and customize user experience with report filters, they are therefore based on report filters and the feature is more focused on user interface & experience rather than exposition outside web intelligence.
Anyway, AFAIK, report filters are not available from Live Office report parts, you can only filter content with prompts, which requires the document to be refresh from the database, which has a direct impact on performance and scalability for consumers.
However, if you are with WebIntelligence XI 3.1 SP2 you have the alternative to publish from WebI Rich Client, report elements (any table or chart) as web services (called BI Services).
This tool is based on Qaaws technology, and share some of its features (main being that is uses the same Xcelsius Data Manager connection), it exposes a large part of WebI interactions to external consumers (esp. Xcelsius) : report filters, drill, prompts.
Besides this tool provides a set of call input parameters to tune web service consumption for best performance and scalability, enabling to leverage WebI document management features like scehduling, publishing and refresh, so consumers can balance performance with real-time data.
More information is available from WebIntelligence Rich Client user documentation from section sharing webi content with other web applications.
I recommend you install the latest fix pack (SP2.5 and above), as some initial fixes were required to ensure full compatibility with Xcelsius.
    Hope that helps,
    David.

  • Connection from Web Intelligence over Universe to SAP ERP without SAP BW

    Hi there,
is there a way to create a Universe which ic connected to SAP ERP (ECC 6.0) ? I want to use Web-Intelligence to create the Reports for my ERP-Data. But i don't want to make the way over SAP BW.
Otherwise i have to use Crystal because Crystal + SAP ERP Integration Kit can handle a connection to ERP. But then i have to waste a lot of time for the accuracy to a pixel which i dont need and i dont want...
    Any Ideas ?!
    Thanks

    Hi
    you have 4 options:
    1) Load your SAP ERP data into an SAP BW system and use OLAP universes to build WebI reports.
    2) Use Rapid marts for SAP. This product comprises Data Integrator mappings that will allow to load your SAP ERP data into a predefined DWH based on a relational data source (like DB2, MS SQL Server or Oracle). It also includes a universe based on the predefined relational DWH that will allow you to build WebI reports.
    3) Use the Data Federator with the SAP R/3 connector. Please note that the R/3 connector is NOT a product rather a prototype tand will be used at own risk (SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Reporting for SAP ERP [original link is broken])
    4) NOT RECOMMENDED: Try to access the tables directly in the underlying database. Please note that this may work for some but not all of the ERP data. In several case the data are stored encoded in the underlying tables and there is no way to extract the required information. Additionally the ERP security will not be leveraged into the WebI report.
Crystal reports is the currently the only BO reporting tool, which supports direct access to SAP ERP data sources.

  • Date data from Web Intelligence Report not equal to Date from Source

    Hi,
I am creating a Web intelligence report based on a BEx query. I have a field called 'Date' that I am bringing over from the BEx query. It has a format of MM/DD/YYYY. When I view the 'Date' in Web Intelligence, it is displaying as 1/1/70. For example, in the BEx Query, 'Date' = 11/01/2011. In Crystal Reports, it is showing up as 1/1/70 as the only date. The source field contains more than 1 date.  I'm not sure what's going on. I am using the 14.0.0 (2010) version of the Web Intelligence through the BusinessObject Launch Pad.
    Please help!

    Hi
The patches for SAP BusinessObjects BI4.0 are accumulative.  This means you can download the latest patch (for the Support Package that you have installed) and it will have all the patch fixes
It looks like older patches are being removed from the sites & only the most recent patch or patches are available since they are accumulative
I believe Patch 2.15 should now be available, but anything later than Patch 2.6 should help you in this instance
    I hope this helps

  • Can we use Java Script in SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence 4.1?

Can we use Java Script or any other Script in BI 4.1 Web Intelligence? If possible please do let me know the method/process

    Hi Kranthi,
You have option to read a cell content as html. else you will have to go for SDK. I think you will get better suggestions, if you can explain your requirement in a little detailed manner.
refer below links for more details about SDK.

  • Difference Between BEx Web and Web Intelligence

    Hi,
Could someone help me understand why someone would want to choose SAP BW BEx Web over Web Intelligence (apart from license issues)?
Web Inteligence is a very strong tool from a UI point of view and has can do most of the functions that SAP BW BEx Web can. WebI allows users to actually create your own reports.
A couple of drawbacks with WebI
    -  I can see is that Web Intelligence does not handle SAP BW hiearchies very well (i.e. they are not shown in a hierachical manner).
    - WebI holds the data within the report which can mean long run times. BEx Web only brings back data for fields that are shown in the report
I have heard people saying that BEx Web is an OLAP tool and WebI is not. How does this make a difference?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    take a look here:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com//irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/d00ae0a1-8086-2d10-118c-f35b8e604bc4
BEx is an OLAP Tool and Web Intelligence for sure not - means that Web Intelligence is not designed for multi-dimensional concepts.

  • How to WorkDay() Excel Function in Business Objects Web Intelligence 12.2.7

    Hi,
I am calculating OTD SLA metrics using the Business Object Web Intelligence, but I am stuck with the WorkDay() how to use this in BO, as it is available in Excel.  Requirement is that I need to add business days (Saturdays and Sundays should not be considered) to a particular date. Greatly appreciate if some one can help me immediately as this is high priority right now and need to complete it <REMOVED_BY_MODERATOR>. Thank you, Shiv.   Thanks in advance.

Thank you for trying to reply.
What exactly I need is that:
    Example:
11/19/2010  +  3  this should give me the date 11/24/2010 which is actually  excluding Sat and Sun and adding only the business days to the date.
    Please provide me full formula
    Thanks in advance, Shiv

  • Problem with Dates in the Web Intelligence

    Hello Everyone,
I am facing a problem with the Web Intelligence Report, in the universe there is a Date field (L01 Date and L01 Date Key). In the report Web Intelligence when i use L01 Date Key it works fine (like 10/07/2010), but when i use L01 Date it shows a Strange Date like 31/12/69. I´ve already tried out with another infocube and query, but the value is the same (31/12/69).
Does anybody have any idea ?
    Regards,
    Jordan.

    Hi,
The problem is coming because L01 field contains summary data of L01 filed and L01 key field contain actual value of that field.
so date field cant be summarize so that's why you are getting an error. Please check with some non date field. hope it will work perfectly fine.

  • Web Intelligence report fails after adding hyperlink

I am trying to add a hyperlink to a Business Objects report created in Desktop Intelligence 3.1.  When I export the report to WebIntelligence and try to run the report, I get an error box that pops up with the following message:
The document instance is no longer available. Please reopen the document. (Error: RFC 00421)
Can anyone please tell me what is going on?  I can't find any reference to that error anywhere.

This problem is with a report created in Desktop Intelligence and then run in the Web Intelligence environment.  If I tried to run the report, it would fail.  The only way I managed to get the report to work, was to turn off the auto refresh when open.

  • WIJ 20002 If you cannot reconnect to the server, close Web Intelligence

Unexpected error. If you cannot reconnect to the server, close Web Intelligence and start again. (WIJ 20002), we are getting this error whenever we try to create a new report using WebI. Specific observations are this happens mainly with IE7 users. IE6 users can create reports without any issues. We have latest Java 6 version.
This error come specially when the number of objects selected are more than 10. We have Linux OS, version AS4 32 bit. Please let me know if anyone have any solution.

  • Creating a new Web Intelligence document using OpenDocument (requires an existing document?)

We use the OpenDocument interface to embed the Web Intelligence viewer in our web application.  One of the problems we're having is that the code appears to require a valid document ID, even if all you want to do is create a new document (passing the noDocument=true flag, so that the application opens with no document at all).
I've tried various permutations of the following, with no success, always getting this error message (An error occurred: Could not find the document)
    E.g:
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&iDocID=...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&iDocID=-1...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&iDocID=0...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&sDocName=...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&sDocName=new...
It appears the only way to get OpenDocument to allow you to do this is to use an existing WebI document ID.  That is to say you can't create a new document unless you already have an existing document to include in the call to the JSP.
This limitation appears to be artificial and only on the OpenDocument interface -- You can create new documents in Launchpad without having an already existing document to point to.  Documenting the workaround for this, having people installing the product first make a webi and save it, then configuring it so it has read-only permissions (so it doesn't accidentally get deleted), then configuring our application to lookup the ID isn't the most elegant of experiences.
I was wondering if anyone had run into this before and/or if anyone at SAP could look into it?  I'm hoping it's an easy limitation/bug to fix.
This limitation affects 4.1 SP4 and probably older versions of the OpenDocument interface.  See also:

    Thanks!

There is a feature request to request addressing this limitation here.  If you're interested, please vote it up!

  • Desktop Intelligence formula to convert into Web Intelligence formula

    Hi Team,
I have converted Desk I Report into Web I report but below formula is not working in Web Intelligence report.
    Desk I formula
    ="Selected Period: " + UserResponse(DataProvider([Order Number]) [EIH Query]"Enter Date mm/dd/yyyy  (From)?") + " To: " + UserResponse(DataProvider([Order Number]) [EIH Query]"Enter Date mm/dd/yyyy (To)?")
converted formula into Web Intelligence but not working. It is showing "# Syntax"
    ="Selected Period: " + UserResponse(DataProvider(<Order Number>) ,"Enter Date mm/dd/yyyy  (From)?") + " To: " + UserResponse(DataProvider(<Order Number>) ,"Enter Date mm/dd/yyyy (To)?")

    Hi,
    Use the following syntax:
    ="Selected Period: " + UserResponse([EIH Query];"Enter Date mm/dd/yyyy (From)?") + " To: " + UserResponse([EIH Query];"Enter Date mm/dd/yyyy (To)?")
Note: Prompt string should be exactly same and the query name to be used in []

  • Web Intelligence is not always working  well

i found web intelligence is not always working, sometime, when i try to open a document, it takes so long, sometimes, it is fast, sometimes when i try to refresh the report, it gives me error, i am wondering if someone knows what could cause this kind of issue? is it proxy? or something else?

    Tara,
there are many factors that can cause slow performance.  In those cases where it is sometimes fast, it may be due to caching -- another user recently requested the same report and the report is in the server's cache, so instead of running the report from the start it sends the cache to you.  In other cases there may be no cache built up so you get stuck waiting for cache and your report comes up slowly.  There are a couple of techniques for tracking down slow performance, but mostly it happens due to either a database problem or an overworked applications/web server, or poor communication/LAN/Network lines.  Depending on your expertise you'll gravitate to checking that aspect out first and investigating one of the aspects to see where a bottleneck is getting produced.  Another technique is to add -trace to your service startups to add more verbose messages to your logs.  Adding trace will help you to see more of what is going on in the background.  I guess it's a matter of digging in and following your instincts until you can nail down the culprit.
    Thanks,
    John
