Web Sharing + Remote mysql Access

Hey! I just had a quick question.
I'm a developer and I was wondering how to enable Web Sharing to allow my PHP code to access mysql databases remotely.
Currently, my web sharing and php and stuff like that work great, but I get the following error whenever I try to connect to a database.
"Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/private/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /Users/matt/Sites/bio/web/dbconnect.php on line 2
Could not connect: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/private/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)"
I'm pretty saavy with software, but anything dealing with firmware or hardware, I am very much humbled. Can someone please help with enabling access to connect to a remote mysql database?
Thanks so much.

Nah I haven't actually physically installed it on my computer. I didn't think I had to install it, since I already actually have the database built that I want to connect to.
Should I install it, then?

  • Problem using Web Sharing

Hi... I am running OSX 10.5.7 on my new Unibody Macbook that is about a week old. (I used migration assistant to transfer everything over, web sharing worked fine on my old macbook).
At first when I tried to connect I got the plain Apache startup page, and followed the advice in the apple article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25038?viewlocale=en_US
I updated the username.conf file but I'm not sure if I did it right, because now I can't connect to anything at all... I simply get the message:
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://192.168.1.6/” because it could not connect to the server “192.168.1.6”.
(This is when I click the web sharing link in system preferences. I get the same message for the username.local link and the /~username/ link too)
I tried entering the following command in terminal:
    apachectl configtest
as suggested in another post on this forum. I get the following result:
Syntax error on line 1 of /private/etc/apache2/users/Jasmine.conf:
Invalid command '{\\rtf1\\ansi\\ansicpg1252\\cocoartf949\\cocoasubrtf460', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
is there a way to start over from scratch?
Can I get rid of the Syntax error on line 1 and get web sharing working (I'm not building websites, I just need to get some files moved over to my iPod Touch).
I've been searching for awhile but so far no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, I just wanted to know if you could help me out with a similar problem.
I'm new to both macs and apache, and I have run into a problem while installing mysql and php. I have been using a online video tutorial from lynda.com but I can't seem to access the localhost. I tried the http://localhost/~(username)/ but all it says is that safari can't connect. I checked both web sharing and MySQL server status and they are both turned on. When I ran apachectl configtest in the terminal I get this output:
httpd: Syntax error on line 459 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Syntax error on line 15 of /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-userdir.conf: Syntax error on line 8 of /private/etc/apache2/users/+entropy-php.conf: Cannot load /usr/local/php5/libphp5.so into server: dlopen(/usr/local/php5/libphp5.so, 10): no suitable image found. Did find:\n\t/usr/local/php5/libphp5.so: no matching architecture in universal wrapper
    any help would be great,
    thanks

  • Personal Web Sharing - Don't have permission to access...

    Hi,
I'm new here so I'm not sure the best place to post my question.
I posted the question below at the tail end of this discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=663879&tstart=0
However, that thread is marked "answered" and my question isn't, so I am re-posting here. Please read the above thread so that you'll know what I already know and have done.
My question (if you haven't read it at the bottom of that thread):
I am trying to set up personal web sharing, I have followed all of the above discussion, including Port Forwarding from my router. (I had actually done all of this before searching here, getting instructions from "The Missing Manual: Panther Edition" book.)
The problem is: when I try to access my shared web pages, I get a "You don't have permission to access..." message.
I have changed permissions on all files in the (user)/Sites folder (the one I'm sharing) so that "Others" can "Read Only" but still I cannot access these pages from another computer via the internet. I can access them fine from my home computer.
I know everything is set up correctly and connecting because the remote browser correctly retrieves my computer name (where the shared files are) and port number. It just won't let me in.
    Any help appreciated.
    thanks,
    Eric

    braintrino,
I'm not sure how to make sense of your statements.
The situation with FileVault is conceptually simple. The contents of a FileVault user's home directory are on an encrypted disk image. When the user logs in from the login window, that image is mounted (using their home directory path as the mount point); when they log out, the image is unmounted. Note that logging in via ssh doesn't cause the system to mount their home directory...
So, when a user is logged in, Apache can (if normal UNIX permissions permit it) see their ~Sites folder and serve pages. When the user is logged out, Apache can't.
I suppose that a FileVault user might be able to get around this, if they don't mind leaving their ~Sites folder unencrypted... They could create a folder outside of their home directory (e.g., /Users/Shared/braintrinos_site/) and put their Web pages there; log into their account and replace their ~Sites folder with a symbolic link to their Web page directory; log out, then ssh in and add a symbolic link from their home directory to their Web page directory. Then, whether they're logged in or not, Apache should be able to see a symbolic link from ~Sites to the unencrypted Web page directory.

  • Shared variable browse in a web published remote panel

    Hallo,
I have made a simple VI where the user can select a shared variable and show the current value.
I use a shared variable control to let the user select the variable from the panel.
Everything run smooth if I interact directly on the server where the VI is running.
This VI is published on the web and when I access the VI form a web browser I cannot browse the shared variable list.
The pull down control is empty and the 'browse' text is disabled.
Is there any option to have the shared variable list browsable on the web published panel ?
I think this should be possbile since the VI is running on the server where variables are published.
    thank you
    Gianpiero

    Hi
I suppose you used the shared variable control to implement your vi. In this case i have to inform you are using a ActiveX control that related to LabVIEW remote front panel shows some limitations.
For more details i suggest you to visit this link which contains a list of the limitations you should keep.

  • Accessing separate drive with Personal Web Sharing

Is it possible to simply use Personal Web Sharing to access an external Firewire hard drive?
I have zero experience with Apache or most server operations. I can set up pretty basic sites with Dreamweaver and/or simple HTML. So if it is possible but difficult, I may need step by step instructions.
I would really like to access this drive because it is easier to keep the large video files on it, but I would like to transfer them to my PS3 on a semi-regular basis. My PS3 has no problem accessing my sites folder (other than not showing the directory so I have to code an index file for it).
Any way I can redirect my PS3 to my external drive using the Web sharing feature? Or is it exclusive to my users drive?
Sorry to ask a simple question, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.
Help is greatly appreciated to either of my problems. Accessing an external drive or figuring out why I get 403 Forbidden messages unless I code an index file.

Is this drive connected to your computer? Are you trying to access the computer remotely? If so then you need to turn on file sharing and remote access.

  • How can outside users access my iWeb sites shared via Web Sharing

Since the coming demise of mobileme/idisk I have decided to publish all of my websites locally (created with iWeb) and share them by the Web Sharing feature in OS X. Everything works perfectly from any computer or device that is on my home network but once I am outside my network I cannot access any of my website nor can any family members. I have an airport network at home using an airport extreme and numerous computers and devices (ipods, ipad, etc) on the network. All can access from within the network but not from outside.  What can I do to fix this?
I don't want to use a commercial service since my sites are large.  Tried Dropbox and it was too cumbersome.
    Thanks,

  • Questions regarding Outlook Web App, Remote Desktop, Remote Web Access and VPN Access

    Hi there,
I want to ask a series of questions regarding Outlook Web App, Remote Desktop, Remote Web Access and VPN access and was hoping whether you could help me. Below are my questions to ask you.
Outlook Web App - What do I need to configure in order to get my Exchange account to work with the OWA app on my iPhone? Is Office 360 required on the server that hosts Outlook Web App in our organisation? When I configure the settings and
connect I get the following message "couldn't connect -  We couldn't connect to the server. Check your information and make sure it's correct." I can connect with other devices using Outlook Web App.
Remote Desktop - What do I need to configure in order to connect to my computer at work using Remote Desktop on my Windows Phone? When I configure the settings and connect I get the following message "Connection error - We couldn't connect
to the remote PC. Make sure the PC is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled. Inquiring minds may find this error code helpful: 0x204" I can connect with other devices using Remote Desktop. There are currently no
RD Server settings in the Remote Desktop app on the Windows Phone and the only way I'm to connect to my PC at work is via Remote Desktop and not to be confused with the one by Microsoft, however the app is on a trial basis and times out every 5 minutes and
can only be used once every hour unless I purchased the app for £2.99 off the App Store but would ideally like to use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app though.
Remote Web Access - What do I need to configure in order to get Remote Web Access on my Windows Phone using a URL? When I log in using a URL I get the following message "There is a problem with this Web page. Please contact the person who manages
the server" I can connect with other devices using Remote Web Access. Also how do you enable the background option for Remote Web Access? I know how to do this in Remote Desktop but not in Remote Web Access. Remote Web Access works on PCs regardless
being onsite and offsite and on my iPhone, the same issue also occurs with my Nokia 5230s regardless of whether I'm using Opera Mobile or Mini or the latest Nokia Browser.
VPN access - How do you configure VPN access on a Windows Phone using VPN? I cannot find the protocols PPTP, L2TP, SSTP and IPsec in order to configure VPN access on the Windows Phone apart from IKEv2.
    Many thanks,
    RocknRollTim

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Kind regards,

  • Error during JNDI lookup Accessing Remote EJB (access to web service restricted using declarative security model)

    Hello everyone,
I developed a Web Service prototype accessing remote EJB using the EJB
control with special syntax in the jndi-name attribute: @jws:ejb
    home-jndi-name="t3://10.10.245.70:7131/AccountDelegatorEJB"
Everything works fine, but I get an error when I restrict access to my web
service with a declarative security model by implementing steps provided in
    help doc:
    - Define the web resource you wish to protect
    - Define which security role is required to access the web resource
    - Define which users are granted the required security role
    - Configure WebLogic Server security for my web service(Compatibility

I launch the service by entering the address in a web browser. When prompted
to accept the digital certificate, click Yes, when prompted for network
authentication information, enter username and password, navigate to the

Is that a bug or I am missing some additional configuration in order to get

    Andre,
It seems you are using the URL
    jndi:t3://secuser1:[email protected]:7131/AccountDelegatorEJB
whereas you should not be specifying the "t3:" protocol.
    The URL should be like
    jndi://secuser1:[email protected]:7131/AccountDelegatorEJB
Please do let me know if you see any issues with this.
Note that this will only allow you to access remote EJBs in the same WLS
domain. For accessing EJBs on another domain, you need to configure
    inter-domain communication by
following a few simple steps as mentioned at
    http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/ConsoleHelp/jta.html#1106135. This link has
been provided in the EJB Control Workshop documentation.

    Andre,
Can you try using the following url with username and password
    jndi://username:password@host:7001/my.resource.jndi.object ?
once you add webapp level security, the authenticated is the user who
    invokes the EJB.

  • Sharing - Remote Management - Allow Access = Broken

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I was unable to connect to my new Mountain Lion remote desktops.
The upshot is that the Sharing -> Remote Management -> Allow Access settings are not AD/LDAP aware and it only works with local users now.
I had to turn off Remote Management and use Screen Sharing, where Allow Access is fully aware of local and non-local accounts.
    Remote Managment -> Allow Access:
    Screen Sharing -> Allow Access:
Your other option is to "Allow All Users" but I didn't want to do that.

I use the Vine Server for reduced color support. In my case it is my Mom's iMac 300 miles away and she has a slow DSL connection.
My experience with Mac OS X VNC server and client are that they work together very well, however, they do not play as nice with 3rd party clients and servers.
Since you are using Windows and by definition a 3rd party client RealVNC, I would suggest you install Vine Server. You can even configure it so it listens on port 5901 so it does not conflict with the Mac OS X VNC server.

  • Cisco 4400 WLC - Accessing web gui remotely

I know how to access the GUI from the service port. However, I am not able to access from Port 0. IPs have all been properly set. We have a management VLAN in our enterprise. I have configured the WLC management interface for an ip on that subnet. Port 0 is connected to a 3560G switch. I have set the switch port to be an access port to the management vlan and I have tried to set the switch port as a trunk, with the native vlan set to the management vlan. I am not able to ping nor access the web GUI remotely via the management vlan. Is this by design?
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
plz try to configure 0 as vlan on managment interface on WLC after configuring native vlan on the switch. if you havent tried it yet.
command - config interface vlan management 0
NOTe - you need to disabl all wlan that r mapped with management interface before doing any changes from CLI.
hope it will solve your prob.

  • Web Sharing .. not able to access personal page

    Hi,
I've just upgraded to Leopard and left all settings unchanged. The web sharing feature which i was using before has stopped working as the http://localhost/~username/ returns a 403 forbidden page when accessed. It was working before the upgrade and http://localhost displays the default apache web server welcome screen... I've tried granting 777 to the ~username/site folder but have no access to the files yet. Has anyone encountered the same problem?

Exact same problem I've had since upgrading, though I've yet to find a solution yet.

I have tried re-editing the myusername.conf file thus:
    <Directory "/Users/myusername/Sites/">
    Options Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
and have replaced it in the directory
    /etc/apache2/users/
    then I ran the command
    sudo chown root:wheel /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf
    with this result
    quentin:~ myusername$ sudo chown root:wheel /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf
    Password:
chown: /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf: No such file or directory
    quentin:~ myusername$
NOTE please remember "myusername" has been substituted to avoid confusion.
I am still unable to access my web sharing and am still getting the error message quoted at the start of this post.
I would greatly appreciate any advice as I am currently trying to implement php and MySQL on this machine.

  • Web Sharing and Apache losing connection?

ok so i just did a fresh install of 10.4 on my server (PowerMac G4 - 350 Mhz) i have set up my web sharing with a few tweaks like turned mod_ssl and installed MySQL. Other than that it's a pretty basic config.
My problem is that i when i start or restart apache everything works and stays that way for hours as I am updating and testing. I go home at night and come back in the morning and i can not access any of my sites nor the local ip of the server (192.168.0.100) or 127.0.0.1
so i restart apache and its back up...
i do have a static IP so I know its not my IP Changing
any ideas on keeping apache alive?

What do the logs have to say about it?
There's nothing anyone here can tell you about why it's stopping - there are just too many posibilities. The server logs, though, might provide some clues.
    Check specifically /var/log/httpd/error_log and /var/log/system.log

  • Web Sharing and vhosts

    Hi all
Can some one help with regards to setting up web sharing and vhosts under 10.8.
I have started apache (sudo apachectl start).
    I've enabled php and mysql.
    I have de hashed (#) Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf
I have added my vhost :
    127.0.0.1      www.myvhosts.dev
    127.0.0.1     myvhost.dev
    to the file     /private/etc/hosts
I have also edited the http-vhost.conf file by adding
    <VirtualHost *:80>
            DocumentRoot "/Volumes/MacPro RAID/Web Development/myvhost"
            ServerName www.myvhosts.dev
    </VirtualHost>
    <VirtualHost *:80>
            DocumentRoot "/Volumes/MacPro RAID/Web Development/myvhost"
            ServerName myvhosts.dev
    </VirtualHost>
But typing in www.myvhosts.dev or myvhosts.dev takes me straight to google.
    Further more http://localhost and http://localhost/~username
both kick out access errors that I have tried to fix with a user.conf file with
    <Directory "/Volumes/MacPro\ RAID/stevenwhiteley/Sites">
        Options Indexes MultiViews
        AllowOverride None
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from all
    </Directory>
    But nothing works.
Any assistance would be most apprecated.
    Cheers
    Steve

Either move the content to the /Library/WebServer/Documents
directory or create aliases in that directory for the real files.
