Web Standards for iWeb use

Anyone know what the standard width and height are for a webpage? Is there a standard? Also is there anywhere that posts compatible fonts that you can use for your site. I was using a CliqueSerif Font but not sure if thats a compatible font to use.
Thanks

Not really. Width should not be so wide as to cause horizontal scrolling. apple.com is an award-winning website and its width is mostly 980 pixels. In general, vertical scrolling is considered okay, so height can be anything within reason.
Also, Apple's developer guidelines for the iPhone/iPod touch say: +"Safari on iPhone also sets the viewport width to 980 pixels, the width of most webpages."+ And: +"...if your webpage is less than 980 pixels wide causing it to scale too small on iPhone..."+
Also is there anywhere that posts compatible fonts that you can use for your site. I was using a CliqueSerif Font but not sure if thats a compatible font to use.
The following is from an Apple doc:
If you use a font that visitors don’t have on their computers, the text is converted to a graphic when you publish (the graphic looks like text but can’t be selected). To see a list of fonts that others are likely to have, open the Font panel (click Fonts in the toolbar), scroll to the bottom of the Collections list, and click Web. The fonts listed to the right are the safest to use.

  • Web hosting for IWeb

    Besides .mac site. does anyone know of any other good web hosting places? I know that powweb.com supports iweb pages but looking to see what else is out there.
    Thanks
    Carrie

    Not sure what you mean by "support" for iWeb pages. We're just talking about HTML files here, so ANY web host will most likely work. Just have to find out the particulars about what exact location to upload your files. And you'll have to use your own FTP program.
    Keep in mind, though, that moving away from .Mac leaves a lot of iWeb features off the table for you...like search, comments, slideshows, the Apple counter, and more! And don't forget about the "smart" uploading capabilities of iWeb. And besides, iWeb I guess .Mac offers the iDisk, webmail, iSync and lots of other things that are tightly integrated into the OS X desktop experience.

  • Standard for the use of session variable in webpart code.

    Hi,
    Why we should avoid using of session variables while writing code?
    Is it not a standard?
    Thanks,
    Akhilesh Rao

    On the face of it, Session is ideal for this, however this is SharePoint and the obvious isn't always the best.
    You'd need to do the calculation about memory usage and number of concurrent users to ensure it really is a viable option in Production.
    If it isn't viable, or wouldn't scale to possible future usage what would you do? Then you need to ask if it's really necessary to move between pages? If the user needs to move through a dialog for example, that could be hosted on a single page which might
    have different controls or sections made visible as the user progressed through the use case.
    Passing data between pages in SharePoint is a lot more difficult than it should be. Sometimes it's best to stay put, and certainly safer than using Session if you're really not sure if Session will stop your solution from scaling.
    Always remember, SharePoint might be hosted on ASP.NET but the design considerations are significantly different than if this were a pure ASP.NET application.

  • Really impossible to create a web service for JBoss using eclipse's WTP?

    I'm starting to get nuts!!!
    I'm an experienced J2SE and J2ME Java developer... but I have huge problems creating a web service using eclipse WTP!
    The tutorials I found are for tomcat... But I want to code for JBoss and not for tomcat...!!!
    There must be somebody out there with the same issues...
    This tutorial works fine for Tomcat...
    http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/tutorials/BottomUpWebService/BottomUpWebService.html
    But if I do the same with JBoss... it's not possible to incoke my web service method... ok, I thought... just need to check google... BUT I didn't find any solution in the whole WWW. Found a lot of questions of people with the same problems... but no solution! :(
    Still getting that:
    ERROR [EngineConfigurationFactoryServlet] Unable to find config file. Creating new servlet engine config file: /WEB-INF/server-config.wsdd
    I know a little bit what a wsdd does... but isn't it the job of the WTP to create that file???
    I really hope you have some places for me to start, 'cause I don't know anymore places to ask for...
    Maybe this is a JBoss issue... I don't know...
    Or is there a tutorial on how to create a web Service using JBoss IDE?

    Hi Massimo,
    Quiet a few points here.
    1. Oracle Type objects do not map to XML Complex type
    2. Oracle Type objects do not map to Apex Page Item Types
    3. Apex Page Item types are substituted into the WS Request XML by a process which is part of the Web Service Reference creation through the Wizard in Apex.
    >
    After created the web service (without any errors), I click on test.
    - I can select the Operation --> CREATE_LINGUA
    - I can input data for Basic Authentication
    - I can't view Input Parameters --> Report returned no rows.
    I've tried with normal type like Varchar2 and all was ok.
    Is possible in Apex to use web services based on complex type, tipically an Array?
    >
    As you have guessed the Wizard driven Web Service Reference definition process cannot handle complex types of input parameters required by a Request. By definition the number of complex types possible are infinite, so they are not likely to come built in.
    Passing an array is no solution because finally the values passed have to be plugged into the right SimpleTypes inside a ComplexType in the Request.
    Based on your WSDL your Request will be
    <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:cre="http://xmlns.oracle.com/orawsv/GRIMALDI/PKG_WEBSERVICES/CREATE_LINGUA">
       <soapenv:Header/>
       <soapenv:Body>
          <cre:SNUMBER-CREATE_LINGUAInput>
             <cre:PLINGUA-LINGUAT-CIN>
                <cre:LINGUAT>
                   <cre:CODICE>?</cre:CODICE>
                   <cre:DESCRIZIONE>?</cre:DESCRIZIONE>
                </cre:LINGUAT>
             </cre:PLINGUA-LINGUAT-CIN>
          </cre:SNUMBER-CREATE_LINGUAInput>
       </soapenv:Body>
    </soapenv:Envelope>However, all is not lost. You can always use the UTL_HTTP package API to construct your Request.

  • Questions about web gallery in iWeb - advise please

    I have succesfully republished my old iWeb with iWeb 08, but would like to have some advice before I experiment further. The iWeb Help says I can add a web gallery to iWeb using either "insert>web gallery", or a Web Widget. Can anyone explain the difference to me?
    My one Web Gallery has the neat new "carousel" effect and the other properties of this new function. Will any new photo albums that I publish directly from iWeb also have these properties, or are they unique to "web gallery"? The photo albums that I have republished with the new iWeb have the "download" and "subscribe" functions, but not the "carousel" and other niceties of Web Gallery. Thank you.

    There are two completely separate types of gallery, one being the .Mac web gallery and the other being the ones that you make in iWeb.
    Where iWeb mentions the "insert" or "Web Widget" it just means there two ways of doing the same thing. If you use the 'Insert' menu or the 'Web Widget' button you are able to choose one of your web galleries and insert an animated thumbnail which cycles through previews of your photos in that particular album. A visitor to your page is able to click on it to visit the specific album.
    So there you have it, you can either build photo albums in iWeb without some of the fancy Web Gallery features or you can use the .Mac Web Gallery. The iWeb albums will be tightly integrated with iWeb and your pages but you can still integrate the .Mac Web Gallery to a certain degree by using the 'Insert' or 'Web Widget' options.
    I personally plan to use both iWeb Albums and .Mac Web Gallery as they both have their merits for different projects I'm working on.

  • Studio 8 and Academic full version Web standard Suite - Adobe support contradictory

    I received contradictory info from Adobe and that after they shipped out my purchase and I just received it today in the mail.
    I have at home the commercial Studio 8.
    I purchased  the Academic full version CS4 Web Standard. (it was cheaper then the commercial upgrade from Studio 8 to CS4 Web Standard suite and even Adobe  Telephone Customer Care suggested me to do).
    Before I purchased it I asked by phone with the Customer Care
    - Upgrade possibilities : Adobe confirmed as follows :
          ° commercial upgrade from Studio 8 to CS4 Web standard Suite
          or
          ° academic full version of CS4 Web Standard suite (as the academic store has no upgrades)
          or
         ° in case I only want Dreamweaver (an not the Fireworks and Flash) then I needed to purchase a Full version of the Stand Alone CS4 Dreamweaver
    - the possibility of still be able to use both versions (the old one and the new one)
    Adobe telephone support confirmed to me also that both versions Studio 8 and the CS4 Suite Web standard could be installed on the same desktop and that I could keep on using Studio 8 aswell.
    Anyhow Adobe Telephone Customer Care advised me to purchase the Full Acadamic Version of CS4 Web Standard as then I would have the new version of all my programs of Studio 8 for a better price.  Moreover they confirmed to me that later on I could upgrade this academic version via the commercial store if there should be a CS5 or so.
    Some of you on this forum told me the same about the upgrade from Studio 8
    As advised on this forum for double check I  launched the same question on 27/5 to the Adobe Customer Portal on the internet and received only today (15 days later) an answer which is contradictory to what Adobe Customer Care told me on the phone.
    Now they say that an upgrade  from Studio 8 is not possible  at all and that I only can use a CS4 Dreamweaver Stand alone version.
    And that both versions Studio 8 and CS4  Dreamweaver / CS4 Web Standard cannot be used on the same computer. I need to uninstall the old version.
    On the Adobe website you can even click on a link to show you the commercial upgrade options from Studio 8 and CS4 Web Standard Suite is one of them.
    Now either the Customer Portal has totally misunderstood my question or the Customer Care by phone misinformed me.
    But with this contradictory info and my shipment received, I'm full of doubts about the info from Adobe.
    Can somebody help putting the light in this darkness?
    Many thanks
    Martine

    Hi Snakeye,
    Indeed, suite to suite through the commercial store.
    Or a full academic version as there are no upgrades in the academic store.
    So I did the right thing already by purchasing the full Academic version .
    Good to hear I can use both suite on 1 PC.  Oufffff!
    Cause for my old project(website) I still want to use Studio 8.   And for the new projects I start with CS4.
    Once I can work fluently with CS4 I can import the the old project and continue with CS4.
    Many many thanks for your info which I appreciated a lot.
    All the best
    Kind regards
    Martine

  • How to call "compensation profile" iView in ECM from Web Dynpro for ABAP

    Hi Experts,
    I developed a compensation planning iView using web dynpro for ABAP using floor plan manager in ECM. I need to call the iView "compensation profile" but I don't know how to pass parameter to it, how to trigger it from my application. Is there anyone used to do this before?

  • Test webi report for Mobile (iPad) with Xcode in a Mac

    Hi everyone,
    I need to develop some reports which will be visualized in an iPad.
    I'm using a VM with Mountain Lion + Xcode. I know that Xcode is widely used by Mac developers. What I'm trying to achieve is the following:
    1) Develop some webi reports for mobile, using MicroCharts, Scorecards, etc.
    2) Test reports visualization without using a real Ipad (we don't have any).
    Of course, no. 2) is the real problem. I'm trying to accomplish this using Xcode, anyone know the way? As far as I cocern, what I need to do is to give Xcode a proper URL (open document of developed report). Am I getting close?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pablo

    Hi Pablo,
    You can down the SDK for the SAP BusinessObjects Mobile app from the SMP. You can then use Xcode to generate an .ipa file.
    Use the iOS simulator in Xcode to load the .ipa and then you will have the app installed.
    Connect to you BI server with the app.
    See here for info on using the iOS simulator https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/IDEs/Conceptual/iOS_Simulator_Guide/Introduction/Introduction.html

  • Web DynPro for ABAP Basics

    Hello Seniors,
    I am new to Web DynPro for ABAP. Could you please give me some information or send some basic documents for Web DynPro for ABAP. Please send some basic scenarios also.
    Thank you,
    Chaitanya.C.N

    Hi Chaitanya,
    Here is some information about Webdynpro for ABAP.
    1) This is basic Info of WD ABAP
    As the name suggests Web Dynpro for ABAP uses exactly the same meta model as its cousin Web Dynpro for Java. A Web Dynpro component, a Web Dynpro view, a Web Dynpro model, a Web Dynpro controller have the same semantics both for ABAP and Java. The main difference is the designtime environment, the development infrastructure and the runtime environment.
    The designtime environment is properly embedded in the ABAP Workbench where Web Dynpro artifacts are simply a new category like BSP applications or classical dynpro based applications before. Also no surprises regarding the development infrastructure. The correction and transport system keeps track on all changes that are done, versions them and helps to propagate the Web Dynpro application from development to production like you would do with ordinary BSP or dynpro-based applications.
    Last not least the execution platform is the ABAP server that produces application content ready to be integrated in the NetWeaver Portal seamlessly. Features like portal eventing can be used between applications written in ABAP or applications developed with Java.
    2 ) I can give you links that can help you a lot.

    Try to Download demo tutorials from SDN library & Try to search WebDynpro ABAP WebLogs .
    Also, SAP has provided you with ample demo example of WD ABAP already bundled with SAP . Just Try out Components starting with WDR . I can tell you few like WDR_TEST_EVENTS ( It shows how every UI elments to use )
    See packages like SWDP_DEMO , SALV_WD_DEMO
    there are many more .
    We can call BAPI through a service call in web dynpro application. Thus automatically backgroud code for BAPI execution will be generated.

  • CS3 Web Standard Installer?

    Hey guys,
    I recently had my CS3 Web Standard disk get ruined and I'm kind of in a jam. I still have my serial key but Adobe is no longer supporting either DVD delivery or downloading it from their website.
    Does anyone know where I could find a trial installer? This way I could just enter my serial key in after downloading it.
    I'm completely stumped otherwise and can't afford CS4. =(

    Technolux - I am also looking for Adobe CS3 Web Standard for Windows.  Your blog has a link to Web Premium, but none to web standard.  Do you happen to have a link to CS3 Web Standard?  A user posted the link in a comment, but the link is incorrectly labeled and is NOT CS3 Web Standard, but CS3 Design Standard.

  • Have you used InDesign to create educational curricula for the Common Cartridge web standard?

    An InDesign user from an online user group asked about using InDesign for publishing educational curricula to the Common Cartridge web standard. Are you familiar with this? If so, do you have any insight about it? Thanks very much.

    I will try changing the anti-alias, something I haven't always been paying attention to, THANKS.
    It was a designer that I worked with a few years ago that said she did it in Illustrator. I think it was AI (I have the Master Suite but only use PS, DW and a tiny buit of flash (usually just, here we go again, editing text)) and yes, it was rasterization and not vector, I have them mixed up and not sure what the difference is...
    But she swore by it and I'm fairly certain she was using CS4. I remember having to make small text changes but couldn't because they were images in the PSD file(s) she sent. They definitley looked better than the typed in ones I did later. In fact, I recall getting yelled at for just putting it up there just using the type tool; maybe not using the anti-alias tool was part of the reason but I remember her being very adamant about it...
    Thanks again RikRamsay!

  • How to use Web Serivce for not jsr 172 phone

    Hi:
    Is anyone know, how to use web service for phones that only have standard J2ME package installed (without jsr 172 web service packagenstalled)?
    thank you

    Hi,
    I think you need to write the code for this from scratch (built on top of existing HTTP functionality). There may be open-source J2ME code you could use. I've never tried this so I'm afraid I don't know any more. But maybe that is what you were asking... i.e. does anyone have code that does this already...

  • Created a web site in iweb, i have a domain through godaddy, what resource can I use as host?

    Created a web site in iweb. I have a domain name through GoDaddy, What resource should I use to make site public?

    I would agree that it helps the newcomer to FTP to have a hosting service whose tech support understand the unique structure of iWeb created sites. I have lost count of the number of users who have asked me to sort out problems created by tech support employed by numerous hosting services - including the mighty GoDaddy.
    A lot of tech support people don't seem to bother to look at the form and function of the iWeb index.html files and advise users that they have to rename their home page to "index". While this holds true for most websites, it certainly doesn't apply to iWeb.
    Its not "simply the html and css files". How many users come unstuck when they forget about the feed.xml?
    People who hand out advice in this forum about uploading files via "Cyberduck" tend to miss out the part about the importance of maintaining the site structure by uploading the whole folder created by iWeb plus the external index.html.
    They also may not have been around back when I first announced that I uploaded the contents of the iWeb folder to get rid of the site name in the URL. I was shot down in flames by the iWeb "experts" and told that this was impossible - even although I was obviously doing it!
    Although this method of uploading the files has become accepted practice in the iWeb community I wouldn't recommend it to those who are new to FTP unless they have help from a tech support person who actually understands the problems involved and can point out the downside. Those who claim that it is "simple" and "easy" have obviously forgotten the first time that they tried it!
    A lot of the people who come to this forum for help with FTP end up in a complete mess due to the conflicting and inadequate advice they get due to the fact that the "adviser" hasn't a clue about the hosting account structure and can't view the actual files. In many cases, I have had to go into the users hosting account and sort out the mess created by bad advice and ignorance. This should really be done by the hosting service's tech support but, in many cases, they helped create the problem in the first place.
    The mere fact that an iWeb user has to come to this forum for help with FTP seems to suggest that their hosting service has inferior tech support.

    I have CS3 web standard and CS4 web standard upgrade. Both are boxed version and have serial numbers for PC. I'm now on a macbook pro. As far as I know, a Win number will not work with a Mac version
