Webcenter Sites Vs Webcenter Portal+Webcenter Content

Hi everyone,
A question for all those multifaceted webcenter experts out there!
What is it that, Webcenter Sites does & Webcenter Portal + Webcenter Content couldn't do?
If both can be equivalent solutions, then why acquisition of FatWire?
Thanks in advance!
~S

I wouldn't say it is a question of what, but how - some people find Sites more appealing than Portal, or Content's WCM (Site Studio). It's worth to add that Portal has most likely richer features than Sites, but if you want to build B2C internet, Sites seems (and are told) to be a better choice.
To your question about the acquisition, other reasons could be:
- ATG; Oracle had acquired ATG some months before Fatwire, which was the front-end technology for many ATG customers
- customer base
- etc.

  • WebCenter Sites (11.1.1.6) install alongside WebCenter Portal (11.1.1.6)

I'm looking for some recommendations for installing WebCenter Sites (11.1.1.6) on a development server which currently has WebCenter Portal (and Spaces), WebCenter Content (UCM/ECM) and WebTier installed.
For WebCenter Content and WebCenter Portal I followed the standard instructions and have been able to successfully start them in the Enterprise Manager, and login to the provided Spaces application.
    Environment
    Oracle Linux 6 (64bit)
    Oracle XE 11.2.0-1
    WebLogic 10.3.6
    Oracle (Sun) JDK 1.6.0_23
    Installed Products
    WebCenter Portal 11.1.1.6
    Content 11.1.1.6
    WebTier 11.1.1.6
    RCU 11.1.1.6
    Middleware Home Files
    ls /app/Middleware
         coherence_3.7
         domain-registry.xml
         logs
         modules
         ocm.rsp
         oracle_common
         Oracle_ECM1
         Oracle_WC1
         Oracle_WT1
         user_projects
         utils
         wlserver_10.3
    Webcenter domain:
    /app/Middleware/user_projects/domains/webcenter_domain
    WebCenter Sites installation
The instructions (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29495_01/index.htm) for "Installing on Oracle WebLogic Application Server" say to run "<wl_home>/wlserver_10.x/common/bin/config.sh" to create a new domain.
However as this machine already has Portal, Spaces and UCM installed under a domain called 'webcenter_domain'. My question is: How can I add WebCenter Sites into the existing webcenter domain, if that is the recommended way?
If it's better to create a new separate domain such as 'sites_domain', then how can both webcenter_domain and sites_domain be run alongside each other? This might be more of a WebLogic configuration question, I'm not sure.
I'm looking for what the best practice recommendation is for running these parts of WebCenter together on the same machine.
The WebCenter Sites install wizard settings I was going to use are below, if this is useful. The part I'm unsure about is astrixed:
    _./csInstall_
    - Installation Directory:     /app/Middleware/Oracle_WCS1
    - Development type
    - Install mode: custom
    - Avisport sample (check)
    - FirstSite II Sample site modules: (all)
    - Single server
    - Sites System Admin account: -
    - Sites Application Admin account: -
    - Satellite Server account: -
    - Sites Shared Files System: /app/Middleware/Oracle_WCS1/Shared
    - Host name: webcenterserver
    - Port of Application Server: 7001
    - Platform Type: Application Server Platform
    - Application Server: Weblogic
    - Site Application Deployment: 1
    Path: /app/Middleware/wlserver_10.3
    Application Context root: /cs
    - Sites Application Deployment: 2
    ** Weblogic domain name: sites_domain / webcenter_domain
    ** Sites application name: CS
    ** Manual Deployment dir: /app/Middleware/Oracle_WCS1/domains
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

The recommendation from the Oracle WebCenter & ADF Architecture Team is to keep the parts decoupled, installing WebCenter Sites on a separate machine. Otherwise it would be leading towards a 'Type 3' integration. Specifically looking at the proof-of-concept application 'Spark', which requires WebCenter Sites and WebCenter Portal installed on the same machine:
+"Due to this co-deployment requirement, most clients have avoided installing or using Spark. And not without reason: installing two big, complex applications on the same environment is problematic with regards to scalability and tuning."+

    What could went wrong here?
    regards

    Hi Tony,
I don't have mac o/s so am using Windows XP. I tried to open "Download the scripts and instructions here" from your blog but
it is opening a new window in the browser with some gybrish characters.
Here is what i did, as i explained it in my earlier post, now also i am facing the
same issue while setting up the server in GUI mode but in the log file it is showing
different exception now compare to the earlier one. I will explain the step by step approach of mine
    1. start the Hsqldb2.2.8 in webserver mode (will the latest version cause any issue here?)
    2. started the tomcat 6.0.35
    3. As explained it in oracle site document for "installing webcenter sites in Tomcat" i did
    the below changes
    1. i downloaded the installation zip file and extracted it in my local m/c. Note:
this is not my installation folder.
    2. then i went to cs-cache.xml,linked-cache.xml, ss-cache.xml and cas-cache.xml and
maintain the unique entries for multicastGroupAddress, multicasegroupport and timeToLive.
[I did the modification in the extracted folder thinking that it will get copied while
doing the installation, and my assumption is correct in the tomcat while deploying later i
saw all my entries in corresponding files ]
    3. In jbossTicketCacheReplicationConfig.xml i modified mcast_addr="239.255.0.0" and
    mcast_port as 4447
    4. Then i started installing the content server, i gave the host name and port "localhost"
and "8080" wherever it is asking.
    5. i clickec express installation instead of Custom settings
    6. After installing it fro 73% again i got the same issue
    7. When i was going through all the issues logs i found below issues.
    a) it was not able to identify cache bean reference inside ticketRegistry.xml so i
commented out JBossCacheTicketRegistry and started using DefaultTicketRegistry in ticketRegistry.xml
    <!-- Ticket Registry -->
         <bean id="ticketRegistry" class="org.jasig.cas.ticket.registry.DefaultTicketRegistry"
              />
         <!--<bean id="ticketRegistry" class="org.jasig.cas.ticket.registry.JBossCacheTicketRegistry"
              p:cache-ref="cache" />
    <bean id="cache" class="org.jasig.cas.util.JBossCacheFactoryBean"
              p:configLocation="classpath:jbossTicketCacheReplicationConfig.xml" />
    -->
Again i restarted the Tomcat server.....
    b) In sites.log file i notice an exception

For consumption/delivery, there is no requirement. That is entirely up to whoever is developing your Templates, as there is full control over the HTML/XML/JSON etc in the rendering of content so you can make the finished rendering suitable for all browsers or not, as your needs dictate.

  • Webcenter Sites 11g: Mobility server installation issue!!

    Hi ,
I am trying to setup Webcenter Sites Mobility Server standalone ( Webcenter Sites CS and CAS up and running).
I am facing some issue, trying to setup the same. Can anyone pls. help me on the same?
I am getting the folloing error in the apache log -
File does not exist: /opt/MS/msadmin/web/adminpanel/allProperties, referer: http://admin.ms1.coedomain.com:8001/
The default properties are not getting populated on the MSADMIN UI.
It says "Loading..." but never loads.
I can see them in the database but not getting populated on the msadmin UI.
The mapper url http://admin.ms1.coedomain.com:8001/mapper is also throwing 404 error.
I can see the modules present under "/var/www/html/mobilityserver/apps/frontend/modules".
Can anyone pls. let me know that apart from the installation steps mentioned in the Installation guide did I need to do anything else ?
Please help. I am stuck on this for sometime!!
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes I have followed the same document.
I have followed the steps exactly as mentioned in the document ( Only I have configured OCI and its working fine).
At the end I ran the below command to test-
    sudo php symfony mobilityserver:testInstall env=prod host=ms1.coedomain.com:8001
    OUTPUT:
    mobilityserver:testInstall Task started at 2012-09-24 17:15:46
mobilityserver:testInstall oraclecms configuration settings are present
mobilityserver:testInstall Unable to connect to URL: http://ms1.coedomain.com:8001/writetest.php

mobilityserver:testInstall Unable to connect to URL: http://ms1.coedomain.com:8001/writetest.php
mobilityserver:testInstall Unable to connect to URL: http://ms1.coedomain.com:8001/writetest.php
    mobilityserver:testInstall WURFL works
mobilityserver:testInstall Pulling XML from Content Server was successful
mobilityserver:testInstall Parsing XML from Content Server was successful
mobilityserver:testInstall Task ended at 2012-09-24 07:45:47 (1.696 seconds)I do not find the file "writetest.php" anywhere.
I can see the errors in the log as "File does not exist: /opt/MS/msadmin/web/adminpanel/allProperties, referer: http://admin.ms1.coedomain.com:8001/"
Do you have any file named "allProperties" under "adminpanel " directory?
Probably because of this its not able to load the properties.
    Thanks,
    Dev.

  • Can we use WebCenter Sites content store in WebCenter Portal

    Hi,
Can we use WebCenter Sites Content Store as the default content store in WebCenter Portal?
I need to create website in WebCenter Sites, all the content will be stored in Sites Content Store. I also need to integrate WebCenter Portal with Sites content store to fetch contents from the store and display it in Portal. I do not wish to purchase WebCenter Content.
    Is this possible?
    Regards,
    Syed Rehan Shah

Well , as suggested by jiri machotka, you can go for version 11.1.1.8.0 version with proper license.
However,if you are using earlier versions than I must say that-
It's going to be very very complex and cumbersome development process al-together . (at least for me) .Because why I am telling this is -
The content repository structure of (webcenter site's CA server )is completely different from UCM (webcenter content server and preferred cms for portal).
In previous threads ,lot of things are being discussed about this issue.
In my opinion, you can very well integrate sites content to portal pages via REST API. Documentation is available.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E29495_01/doc.1111/webcenter_sites_11gr1_wem_rest_api_resource_ref.pdf
Apart from it, you can also do -
    1. Gadgets - You can consume Gadgets from WebCenter Portal, some examples with Google Gadgets are available in OTN.
    2. Widgets - You can build HMTL + Javascript widgets with Sites and embed in WebCenter Portal pages.
Hope this info helps you out.
    Regards,
    Hoque

  • Difference between webcenter sites & webcenter portal?

Currently I am working on one website where we have used Oracle weblogic Content management which used to show all the content on the website.& now we are planing to use Oracle webcenter content management in our application but I am confuse about which product of webcenter we should use out of below 3 for rapid developement:
    1. webcenter Portal
    2. Webcenter Spaces
    3. Webcenter sites
    Please help.

The two are very different products.
WebCenter Portal is for Enterprise portals, where you want to ingrate content and information (as portlets or taskflows) from other systems, web services etc.
You can use WebCenter Portal: Spaces if you want to offer an environment within your portal where users can collaborate, form communities, work together etc.
Integration with Oracle WebCenter Content is a strong point of WebCenter Portal.
WebCenter Sites on the other hand is primarily for commercial, customer-facing web sites.
So it really depends on what your requirements are. Rapid development is nice, but you should make sure you use the right tool for the right job.

  • WebCenter Portal and WebCenter Sites Integration

We have a client requirement where we need to provide Web Content Management and Portal Solution in Oracle WebCenter product stack.
Contents, Templates and other Content Assets will be created and managed in WebCenter Sites, WebCenter Portal will be used for content delivery (Display content to end user). There is another requirement of content editing from WebCenter Portal; where a set of users will have the right to editing content present in WebCenter Sites.
Is there any available solution for integrating WebCenter Sites and WebCenter Portal to fulfill above requirements?

The best available info is in this thread: Integrating webcenter sites content in to Webcenter portal
Take a look also at this one: Re: WebcenterSites Vs WebcenterPortal

Drop the database user and reinstall again.

  • How to integrate oracle webcenter with oracle webcenter Sites?

How to integrate oracle webcenter with oracle webcenter Sites?

This very much depends on what you mean by the first "oracle webcenter" and what kind of integration you are looking for.
Oracle WebCenter contains three main product lines:
    - Oracle WebCenter Portal,
    - Oracle WebCenter Sites,
    - and Oracle WebCenter Content.
Since the newest version 11.1.1.8 it is possible to store Sites' assets in WebCenter Content.
WebCenter Portal, where the name WebCenter originated from, is another front-end technology, so it would rather co-exist next to Sites than integrate with them. See this thread WebCenter Portal and WebCenter Sites Integration for more details.

  • WebCenter Sites Documentation

    Hi,
Is anyone please able to provide or point me to Fatwire/WebCenter Sites documentation?
Oracle don't seem to be providing any anywhere and the Fatwire support site requests contact and training information to register which I don't have.
I'm trying to get a handle on the product technically for evaluation purposes... so I'm looking for installation and developer doco.
    Thanks,
    Darren

In general, all Oracle docs are found at http://docs.oracle.com
The WebCenter tech portal is at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/suite/overview/index.html but that does not dig into Sites tech
The WebCenter Sites business portal is at http://www.oracle.com/us/products/middleware/webcenter/sites/overview/index.html but that has no curent tech information
So apparently the FatWire integration is still ongoing. WHich means the best place to get information might be from Oracle Support, or from the net.
You might want to search under FatWire - the best resource I've found soi far is http://jboye.com/blogpost/everything-you-need-to-know-about-fatwire-content-server/

  • Automation Testing on Webcenter Sites

    Hello,
How do I automate content creation using any automated test tool?
    Thanks,
    Sushanth

This question can be approached from two perspectives:
    - is your task to create automated tests, or
    - is your task to automate content creation?
If the former, there is a number of tools (both commercial and open source) which can automate test scenarios on web-based applications. Oracle has one too, called Oracle Application Testing Suite.
If the latter, there might be better means than generic testing tools. Take a look at this article: http://manifesto.co.uk/using-webcenter-sites-rest-api-part-1/?goback=.gde_142076_member_5809268750695821313#!
which describes REST API. Also, if you use WebCenter Content as you content repository, you could use Batch Loader, or RIDC interface.

  • How to install webcenter sites 11.1.1.6 or 11.1.1.8 in cluster configuration and delivery mode?

I am trying to install webcenter sites 11.1.1.6 using cluster configuration and in delivery mode but its not getting installed properly.
Can anyone please share on the steps to follow while installing webcenter sites in delivery environment?

The recommendation from the Oracle WebCenter & ADF Architecture Team is to keep the parts decoupled, installing WebCenter Sites on a separate machine. Otherwise it would be leading towards a 'Type 3' integration. Specifically looking at the proof-of-concept application 'Spark', which requires WebCenter Sites and WebCenter Portal installed on the same machine:
+"Due to this co-deployment requirement, most clients have avoided installing or using Spark. And not without reason: installing two big, complex applications on the same environment is problematic with regards to scalability and tuning."+

  • WebCenter Sites and UCM integration

    Hi,
Can any one help me to integrate WebCenter Sites with UCM.

There are a number of approaches to doing this, and it totally depends on the version of UCM you're using (and the version of Sites too for that matter).  Have a look at this presentation that Bex Huff and I gave at Collaborate last year.
Seamless Integrations between WebCenter Content, Site Studio, and W...

  • Integrating InDesign with WebCenter Sites

We are looking at implementing WebCenter Sites but need a print component as well. Has anyone intergrated InDesign with OWS? We want OWS to be the central place for all content. Most of that content is served for the Web, but some of it needs to be served for print.
    Thanks.

I don't believe that noone has ever tried to connect the local BPM environment to a remote WCC server before. Please let me know if you've ever experienced the same problem. Otherwise, even a simple "I tried to do the samething and I succeeded using the same steps in the tutorial" would help too .
Another thing is that yesterday, I talked to the tech-lead and I learned that our WCC server environment doesn't have BPM installed yet. I am wondering if this would cause the WCC server to not understand the request from my BPM server. In addtion, I've also upgraded my local BPM server using the lastest SOA bundled patch. Should the same patch be applied to the WCC server environment too?
I'd be very grateful for any advice .
