Webdynpro application in UWL

Hi All,
I want to develop a workflow application in webdynpro which contains a stationary request form by an employee. This stationary request is send to his leave approver in his UWL task list. I want to know that this is possible through webdynpro java and if yes than how.

Hi Bharat,
    I have no idea of how to integrate any custom application into UWL.
        But surely alternative way for this kind of scenrio could be building custom workflow separately i.e Once requestr sends a request to partiucular approver, an email is triggered to approver.
        A separate iView is created for apporver which will be populated based on approvals pending against this approver. He can approve the requests, based on which backend flag will be updated.

On-click of the UWL link ,No WebDynpro application is launching

I am having a problem while developing a multiple level application.This application will send a link to UWL in portal for the approver.When the applicaton is sending something to workflow,it is creating a link in the UWL.But when I click on this link,it showing "There are no items to display".And also when I look for the properties of the page I am getting

Hi,
Will you plz provide more input on the issue. Are you able to launch other WebDynpro application from UWL. Please chekc the XML for the UWL and try work for the tag item type and check the page value.
In the SDn you can easily find XML code for the launcher of WebDynpro Application.

Issue in webdynpro application while calling from UWL

I am working on APPRAISAL workflow in HCM module.
In new version of SAP has provided ABAP web dynpro application HAP_MAIN_DOCUMENT (component HAP_MAIN_DOCUMENT)
but it is not integrated with workflow. Earlier insted of this application there was a BSP application and this was integrated with workflow.
Now to integrate ABAP webdynpro application with workflow I have created new web dynpro application and calling HAP_MAIN DOCUMENT application and when I test through SE80 transaction then I am just passing Work Item ID and it is opening HAP_MAIN DOCUMENT application. I have done it as follows.
In swfvisu I am passing Work Item ID and In application I am getting business object details using this I am createing a URL and then using exit plug I am calling HAP_MAIN_DOCUMENT application

In SE80 it is opening application perfectly in same session of new Z webdynpro application.
But when I click on UWL workitem it is not opening.
In dubugging I checked that workitem ID is passed correctly also URL is created correctly for HAP_MAINDOCUMENT but it is not opening.
Please let me know is there any setting in UWL config.

Error when retreiving UWL items in webdynpro application

Hello,
I am getting nullpointerexception when retreiving the items from the UWL in webdynpro application in java.
error is throw at the following line
NullpointerException
at com.sap.netweaver.bc.uwl.core.ItemCacheManager.internalGetItemsForView(ItemCacheManager.java:56)#
at com.sap.netweaver.bc.uwl.core.ItemCacheManager.refreshCacheAndGetItems(ItemCacheManager.java:1351)#.

Integrating WebDynpro ABAP applications with UWL for workflow in Portal

We want to integrate an abap webdynpro application as task in the workflow with UWL.
More information was found in /people/ginger.gatling/blog/2005/12/14/create-new-uis-for-existing-workflow-tasks-with-abap-web-dynpro-and-universal-worklist
But no answer on the following issue:
We use the transaction SWFVISU to prepare standard setting for our task. This defines how a task is executed, once you select the task subject line on the worklist.

Webdynpro java application in UWL

Hi Experts,
My requirement is we had one Java application , we need to link up this application into UWL , and every month end who is accessing that application that guys have to get alert for to fill that form
My question is is there any chance to link up this java application into UWL , please help on this issue or any possible ways is there.

Have you had a look at the Javadocs? The API is listed here and could fullfill your needs. I have seen other customers build their own custom connectors to link to their own custom applications with the API documentation and coding:

Hi,
If you want to have portal login details from backend system (with ABAP) you should ask this question in some portal forum and ask if it is possible. This has nothing to do with workflow or UWL. Even if you get the portal user ID to the backend system, then what? Do you want to manipulate the portal roles etc. from your ABAP WD application? Then you will have even more complicated requirements to achieve with ABAP. It is not that straightforward to call different portal functionalities from backend system. You might need to do some "portal development". And eventually your ABAP WD application might come just an unnecessary wrapper component for calling some web services or whatever in portal.

Task configuation containing webdynpro hyperlink in UWL

Hi Experts,
i have a workflow userdecision task that contains a hyperlink of webdynpro application.Now we have to integrate this task into UWL.we are able to open the task from UWL but on clicking on hyperlink this web dynpro application is not getting opened.
Can you please suggest the steps to do the same.

I am doing this for the first time..so not sure am i going in the correct way..i have a user decision task that contain following details
1.Accept
2.Reject
3.Send for review
Note for approval (hyperlink for webdynpro application)
Now since i dont need any additional functionality i did not register this task in swfvisu(as i have understood if we need to add additional functionality ,we have to create webdynpro for that task and register the task in swfvisu).so for the task,the standard config screen is opening in UWL providing me the details of task,The accept and reject button are also working fine.
Now when the user clicks on the hyperlink..it should call webdynpro application.But it is not calling.On right click on hyper link it shows URL as javascript.void(0)..that means it is not taking the URL.But where is this URL getting missed..i am not able to figure out.
Do i need to configure the task in swfvisu..if yes what would be the launcher type.?

Problems in triggering webdynpro application from Workflow using SWFVISU

Hi everybody,
We have created a webdynpro application which we are linking to our task using transaction SWFVISU .
The method for the task is WEBSERVICE-DISPLAY.
SWFVISU has been configured with parameters :
application name : ZXXXXXXXXXXXXX
and namespace : sap.
When i create a workitem in the UWL , and click on it, i get a dump with the following description : 'Exception condition "URL_CREATION_FAILURE" raised.'
Now the strange thing is that if i use a standard SAP Webdynpro application , this works properly.
Could anybody advise us on whether we are missing something ?

I tried changing the method but it still throws the same error. i dont think this error is related to the Task method , since it can also be a dummy method (as is the case with the leave approval workflow 12300111) .

Workitem Text need to display in Webdynpro Application

Requirement : Workitem ID need to capture in WebDynpro application along with workitem text. (i.e.., When user clicks on worktitem from UWL, the workitem text should display in Webdynpro applocation.)
I have created workflow and Web dynpro application. I have configured in SWFVISU tcode and assigned parameter in webdynpro application parameters tab. Here, If i click's on workitem, it's opening sap web screen. But i want to open webdynpro application screen.

If you are not seeing the button "Launch WebDynpro" when you click on your Workitem then your UWL is not configured. There are a couple of steps for that which are provided quite clearly in the link below .

Broadly the steps are:
Re-register your system alias in UWL configuration. The path for this is System Administration / System Configuration /Universal Worklist Administration
After re-registering, the portal will add one XML file for your system. Download the XML file, edit and add Webdynpro option specifying the Workflow Task ID and your custom webdynpro application name
Upload the edited XML file with priority high and clear the cache
In your WDA application define a plug name 'Start' and define the parameter WI_ID type SWW_WIID
In your WDA window define a eventhandler HANDLESTART and inside write the code for reading the workitem id. Create a parameter WI_ID type SWW_WIID also for this eventhandler

Hello,
You would probably want to use UWL in the portal. From UWL you can launch tasks from portal, and with proper configuration (for example with the help of transaction SWFVISU) you can easily start web dynpro applications from UWL.
I suggest you go trough the SAP documentation about UWL. Start for example here:

How can I customize the stylesheet of webdynpro applications?

Hello experts,
how can I customize the Look & Feel (e.g. background color) of webdynpro applications?
I refer e.g. to UWL which is opened by a task link in an email and opens as as webdynpro application in a separate window. It appears in the typical SAP blue. I would like to change the color.
The portal´s customization does not affect webdynpro applications.

with the skins the AIR layout provides. I suppose if you are a FLEX
developer you might be able to change the skins. But it is what it
is.
You might consider submitting a Wish Form to ask the

The sharing reference is already added. I solved the problem by addding the library prtapi.jar.
But now I when I run I get java.lang.NullPointerException

Needs a background webdynpro application running at the server side

We have a requirement wherein we need to have an application running all the time at the server side to capture the response coming from a web application. Based on the response that the application receives, it needs to update some backend R/3 tables.
We are thinking of a webdynpro java application.
Can anyone suggest what kind of application needs to be implemented here?
And what would be the steps required to run the application at the server side without calling the application.

Thanks for the detailed explaination.
This may sound silly to you but I've another doubt which is as follows:
As you mentioned that the external web application will be sending requests to our Web service(in SOAP envelopes) and rest of the functionality can be achieved by our web service.
Actually, we are expecting only responses from the external web application. The thing is that we are sending the requests to the external web applications from our custom webdynpro application and in return the web application will be sending us 2 responses.
First response would be back to our WD java application URL(to the browser in which WD java app is running) which would get the response and display some message based on the response.
Second would be to this web service which you have just suggested. We are having two responses so that even if the browser in which the WD java application is running gets accidentally closed, the response from the external web application must get captured somewhere else and should not get lost in any case.
So, now since we are only expecting the response from the web application and we do not want any requests from the web application to our web service; how is this possible?
I am asking the above question because you have mentioned that the external web application has to request our Web service but we want is only this web service to capture the response coming from the Web application.
Or is it like the web application will send us the response string as request string to our Web Service and the web service will capture these response parameters as request parameters from the web application and do the further processing.
But in that case, we do not want any response to be sent by the Web Service to the external web application.
Please suggest if this is possible.
