I'm re-engineering a WLS environment and am curious as to if anyone has any experiences with having WLS in a VMware environment. Any feedback or experiences is welcome.

Unable to start the weblogic server from windows environment

Hi All,
In our training system we have installed the SOA 11g and it worked fine till today afternoon. We have logged off the admin user in windows account and logged with our login credentials into windows after that we are unable to start the weblogic server.
- Earlier in the DOS command prompt we used to navigate to the path where the startWeblogic.cmd file located and then we execute the command, after that we will able to see the status message as RUNNING MODE in the bottom of the screen, and when ever we deploy an project using Jdeveloper in the weblogic server window some messages will appended based on the action.
- Only when we issue the command to shut down the weblogic server at that time only the command will be back to the path from where we started the server.
- After login to windows with our account, when we tried to start the weblogic server, it didn't throw any error instead of that after running few lines in the command window the prompt was back in to the (D:\Middleware\.....\Domains\bin)path from where we ran the command to start the server.
Please help us to resolve the issue asap.

Make sure that the user which you are using to start weblogic server should be part of Administrator group or the group to which your admin user belongs to.

Weblogic server performance is very slow and memory consumption is 99%

I am facing one critical issue with the weblogic server..
The server performance is very slow and one of the process is consuming more that 99% of the memory. Bouncing the server is not resolving the issue.
Can see the memory usage below...

Oc4j to weblogic server migration

I want to migrate my application from oc4j to weblogic server. i have oc4j related deployment descriptors like Orion-ejb-jar.xml, Orion-application.xml etc.
For getting weblogic related deployment descriptors from oc4j ear(containing oc4j related descriiptors) , i used SmartUpgrade utility along with JDeveloper. Also i also tried SmartUpgrade command line utility.
But i did not get Web Logic related descriptors i.e weblogic-ejb-jar etc.
Please guide me regarding above issue.
Also, tell me , is there any other utility to get weblogic related descriptors.

Weblogic Server 10.0 MP1 on RHEL5 StartUp Issues

I am a newbie to Weblogic on RHEL. Havin issues with Weblogic to start up. I tried installing with root or a non root user but still the same result.
Its get stuck at Initializing state and never move on from there.
<BEA-000365> <Server state changed to STARTING>
<BEA-002900> <Initializing self-tuning thread pool>
Please let me know how to resolve this. I dunno if its a permission issue or not cos with root too its the same case .
I tried to create a new domain with configure.sh, gave the user name and password too while startup but still it doesnt move from this line.
Kindly let me know how to trace where n why its stuck .. or pls help me with the correct procedure to install

Unable to deploy to weblogic server

I had created an hello world bpel process and it was build successful but the deployment to weblogic server was incomplete,
Environment : 11.1.1.5.0 soa suite,11.1.1.5.0 Jdeveloper, 10.3.5 WLS
I had configured admin and soa in a single server(developer mode)

Weblogic server not starting in multiple version Environment of JDeveloper

Hi,
I first installed Jdev 11.1.1.1 version (now working fine ) and then Jdeveloper 11.1.1.3(problematic now) keeping Jdev 11.1.1.1 aside..in windows xp Operating system.
I created Middleware Home for Jdev 11.1.1.1 ----> D:/Oracle/Middleware1 and for 11.1.1.3 ------> D:/Oracle/Middleware2. There is also a folder structure C:/Oracle/Middleware containing some files in C: drive.
On starting weblogic server in 11.1.1.3 ,it shows the following error.The Class path for weblogic server should be start with D: drive and not C: drive.
Please tell me how to change the class path to refer the correct weblogic server.

I renamed the folder name system11.1.1.3.37.56.60 to something and the restart the JDev ,it automatically created that folder and ask for to migrate from a previous version ,answered no ..

Weblogic cluster for 24x7 environment and a front OHS server

Hi experts,
We are going to set up a reliable J2EE application server environment by using clustering webgoic servers on TWO nodes, and a front OHS https server in DMZ for load balancing.
I am new to weblogic cluster and load balance by OHS. I have visited this forum for Fusion MiddleWare clustering etc. Can some experts share some light on this?
Will our deployment architecture be able to handle the J2EE applications failover? In other word, we can restart one of Weblogic Managed Servers when a new release of J2EE codes are re-deployed without impacting business end users’s usage?
Problems we want to solve:
1. All J2EE applications are available for 24x7 even when new J2EE codes are released and deployed on weblogic Managed Servers ANY TIME, side-by-side deployment and restart a managed server if we need to clean the HTTP cache.
2. The J2EE applications should be accessed by external and internal users with a Single Access Point, like

Seems your architecture is like Browser => OHS ( DMZ ) => Weblogic => DB OR Browser => HLB( like bigip ) => OHS ( DMZ ) => Weblogic => DB
Cluster is the solution for load balancing however if you are using OHS for redirection to weblogic then OHS does the load balancing in round robin way. using cluster in this way has a benefit of in case of any one of your managed server is down the OHS will divert connection request to any one of the active managed server ( you have to turn on dynamic list on at OHS ).

Failover is something different, if in case any of the any managed server goes down then your user you get the application session from another server but new one, means the the tasks not saved by the users on earlier session will lost. for that yo need to use cluster and then need to enable the session replication. another best option is you can use the coherence web if you are using latest versions of weblogic supporting coherence web. with that you not need to worry on user sessions and you can start any of the managed server anytime without worrying about the user sessions.

another way is, you can use side by side deployment feature in case you don't want shutdown your application completely, with this, old connections and new requests will goes to old application and once new application activated all new requests will come to new application and once all requests on old application will complete that application will retire automatically.

1. If the installation is possible for the Vmware instance on a DL 380 G5/G6 server , will that be supported by Cisco ?
Similary is the case with CUIC 8.5. Has anybody worked on these do suggest ideas.

Virtualized UC applications from Cisco are only supported on the UC on UCS platform using ESXi 4.0, 4.0 Update 1, or 4.1 - hypervisor support may vary based on application.

Weblogic Physical Vs VMWare

Hi,
We are planning to build a new enterprise level platform running OSB/WLI/BPEL PM on Windows 2008. We are at crossroads on deciding whether to go for physical Vs Vmware. Since oracle licenses are tied to physical CPU cores, we want to utilise the most of it. So we are planning to have dedicated physical servers and all VM's running on them to be used only for this enterprise application. We understand certain pros and cons for going the VmWare path.
Pros:Easier Manageability -
1. A new VM can be easily created on an existing physical hardware in case of any issues.or future extension.
2. Physical server capacity can be efficiently used. In case of OS failures or patching, the weblogic server can be failed over to another VM within the same physical server and the underlying physical server cpacity can be used.
Cons :
1. Extra CPU required for Virtualisation (ESX) layer.
2. Oracle products are not certified but supported on Vmware platform. This could complicate the support procedures with Oracle.
Looking for some guidelines from people who have taken this path before. Especially, how reliable is ESX for hosting an enterprise level weblogic platform? How much will be the performance degradation of using ESX. Is the flexibilty offered by Vmware worth enough to trade off for performance costs. As in our case we are not planning to use Vmware for multiple apps as we want to save on license costs and reserve physical server capacity only for this Weblogic app. So this takes away some of the inherent benefits of virtualisation like the physical server capacity consolidation.

Our application is reasonably small and sized for 4 x 2 CPU servers.
Moving to a virtual server blade environment would mean buying some decent blade servers which in our case would be 4 of 2 x quad processor blades which gives 32 cpu's.
Our first assumption is that you could restrict the CPU usage in VMWare to emulate the 4 x 2CPU servers we have currently. The problem is, Oracle don't recognise software partitioning on VMWare, only on Oracle VM and if you run on VMWare, you have to license for the full VMWare blade evironment - all 32 CPU's worth. We buy those blades as we've got MS SQL Server, Introscope and other software to run.
That's why the license costs rocket. We haven't done any cost benefit analysis, as at the moment there's no point. We have to buy the hardware and VMWare, and multiplying our license cost by 4 is too much to justify.
We have an infrastructure team which are VMWare skilled, and if we are forced down the Oracle VM route and then have to provide the team with Oracle VM training as well. We should be OK with that, but is a shame. We use VMWare in a development environment and it's superb.
There are lots of benefits to VMWare for load balancing, provisioning and all sorts of stuff I don't know the technical details for, but from what I've experienced in the development environment, Virtualization is the way forward.
We're in the process of talking to Oracle about VM features, and hopefully do a comparison internally between that and VMWare.
Oracle VM is also free which is a factor and there are also the support issues to consider.

Is it as simple as treating the appliance as a Linux VM during installation? Can vSphere be used to deploy Hyperic to a VMware appliance like vRA (non-IAAS)?

1)Could you please try logging into sqlplus using using the below command :-
    sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
2)Execute the below command to check if the password in expired :-
select username, account_status, expiry_date, where username='MDS username';
3)Change the password if the password has been expired by following the below command :-
   alter user <user> identified by <password>;
4)Once the above steps are followed please login into the Weblogic Admin Console and follow the below steps:-
    + Go to DataSources ---> Select the MDS schema ----> change the password which was given in step no.3
    + Restart the Weblogic once again.
5)Lets us know the result.

Hi jmendelak,
In the warfile i have jsp,servlets,java classes.
In my working directory i have jsp and html files and in web-inf folder i have a folder by name classes in which i have the servlets and java classes.
I made the war file and when i tried to deploy i was getting this error.
I had previously deployed this war file on weblogic6.1 it was working fine.
I have upgraded my operating sytem to Windows2000 professional from WinNT 4.0.I reinstalled the weblogic again and had set up the environment variables.
After going through the error could you find out the reason?Is it because some seeting is missing?

I get the below error when I run Weblogic server 12c. I am running it on Windows 7 Enterprise sp1.
I have installed the products. Oracle DB 11.2.0.1.0, RCU 11.1.1.6.0, Webcenter Portal & Content- 11.1.1.8.0

Hi,
Few comments here...
1) Seems your environment is not setup correctly but that is not the big cause here.....
2) This one is important, it seems that you installed weblogic using a different account and are trying to run it from a different account.
So the account with which you are trying to run weblogic does not have proper permission on
MW_HOME\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\fmwconfig\bootstrap\cwallet.sso
Right click on the file and go in properties ..
Enable full control,modify,Read and execute,read and write permissions for the user you are trying to start weblogic and apply it.
if this simple steps doesnt work, please enable more logging by adding "-Djava.security.debug=jpspolicy" to startup option and grab more details.

Hi,
Few comments here...
1) Seems your environment is not setup correctly but that is not the big cause here.....
2) This one is important, it seems that you installed weblogic using a different account and are trying to run it from a different account.
So the account with which you are trying to run weblogic does not have proper permission on
MW_HOME\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\fmwconfig\bootstrap\cwallet.sso
Right click on the file and go in properties ..
Enable full control,modify,Read and execute,read and write permissions for the user you are trying to start weblogic and apply it.
if this simple steps doesnt work, please enable more logging by adding "-Djava.security.debug=jpspolicy" to startup option and grab more details.
