Website published...cannot edit..original file gone?

trying to edit my website, that I created in the summer and when I open iWeb I get a blank new file. I checked the Domain site in the Library...and when I double click on it it opens a blank starter document.
where did my file go???? It's on the web but not on my computer!!!

What system are you running?  If it's Lion try the following:
For opening your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • I have exclamation marks and itunes cannot find original file?

I have exclamation marks and itunes cannot find original file. How do I locate original file?

Check you have your iTunes settings (Edit, Preferences, Advanced) to keep iTunes library organised.
Your songs should be in your music library in iTunes, iTunes Media, Music.
If they are not, start menu, type the name of a song in the box and the list should show you where that is located.

  • Cannot open because cannot locate original file

I made a dumb mistake when I first started using LR and I thought files once downloaded into the catalogue were saved and accessible.  I removed the files from bridge and now I cannot open them in my catalogue.  My photos will show up in LR, but the message says "cannot open because cannot locate original file"
I can SEE them, I just can't do anything with them.  Is there anyway to recover these files?

What you are seeing in LR is simply a thumbnail of what was in your LR catalogue. I guess though there is no harm in trying to export what you see in LIghtroom, as a jpg but I can't thjink that would work.
So you imported all into Lightroom and then went into Bridge and deleted them from Bridge and therefore off your drive as well. And no backup? Just trying to understand where things went sideways.

  • Cannot edit sudoers file in single user mode.

I did not back up my sudoers file on my pro.
I made a change to it, adding my "test" user to be able to use sudo, but upon restarting, it didn't work, and I cannot edit the file via cd in single user mode.
I mounted the drive, changed permissions, but it seems that I don't have the option to use vi, visudo, vim.
    Thanks for the help.

I mounted the hdd using the command below.
I then made sure I could get to the file by cd to it.
Then once I was there, i would attempt to type vis <tab> to complete, and visudo does not show up. Typed in visudo, nothing. This was on a brand new mb pro. I can wipe it out, but I would rather figure out why its not working.
The reason for all this is I have to give it to a user at my job. We don't want them to have admin rights to install anything they want, but they need to use sudo in X11 for compiling and such. I read online that I can edit/add their username to the sudoers file, and allow them the right to sudo for compiling, starting apache on their laptops, etc.
    Thanks.

  • Re: Camileo X100 - cannot edit the files

I bought the Camileo X100 and have been frustrated ever since i got it.
I cannot edit the files with anything, Adobe premiere CS5 sees them as only Audio, Sony Vegas Studio HD 9.0 only see them as video with no audio.
I've tried to convert them but, it converts with no sound and poor picture quality or with no video and just sound. VirtualDub gives me an error when i try to convert with it aswell. Quicktime still can't play them even after instaling the Divx package.
It seems counter productive to make a camera that has codecs that are this hard to edit.
I ran Gspot and it says H.264/Mpeg-4 AVC supposedly this is standard but, but the issue i think is that it's container is AVI.
So my question is, should i return this camera? or is there a way to edit on Vegas or Premiere?

I figured it out on my own. What you need to do is Download Windows Movie Maker 11. Import 1 file at a time and set whatever resolution you want (preferably the same resolution you brought it in as) But make sure when you're saving your video set the bitrate at 10000. So for example my video is 1920x1080, so my export is 1920x1080 at 10,000 bit rate and 30 FPS. With these setting there is absolutely NO loss of video quality. This will work with your S10 too. And the files become editable in Premiere CS5 and Sony Vegas. Have fun!

  • FYI: How to Fix "iTunes Cannot Find Original File" Error

Yesterday morning, I opened iTunes and tried to play a file. I got the old "iTunes cannot find the original file" error. I tried another file. Same thing. I tried restarting iTunes, holding down the shift key, and making sure iTunes knew where my Library file was. Yep. Still no dice. So I came here, and did a search for help. I could not find any definitive answers to this question. So I did a Google search and found the fix in an old Metafilter thread. Given that this problem seems a little common, I thought I'd post my solution here, for anyone who has this issue in the future.
First things first, make sure that it's not just an issue of pointing iTunes to your current library location. Go to your advanced preferences and double-check the library location path. If this doesn't fix it, then it's time to go my route:
    1) Open your iTunes folder in windows explorer. Look for a file called "itunes library.xml". Copy that file to your desktop or somewhere else so that it's backed up...in case something goes wrong.
    2) Open the original XML file in notepad (right-click, "open with", "notepad").
    3) In this XML file, you will see a paragraph of information for every file you have (songs, podcasts, videos, etc.). In each of those paragraphs, there is a file path specifying where the file is supposed to reside. This is how the itunes library.itl file knows where to look. In my case, it should have been "e:/my music/itunes", but instead, it was "e:/my music/itunes/itunes music". The program had created that folder for some reason, and all my files were pointing there.
    4) Check a few of the paragraphs and see if they are pointing to your actual music folder. If so, then you have another problem...sorry. If not, then continue on:
    5) Go to edit->replace (or control-H). In the "find what" box, enter the incorrect file path (in my case, e:/my music/itunes/itunes music"). In the "replace with" box, enter the correct path of your itunes music folder (in my case, "e:/my music/itunes". Then click "replace all".
If you have a lot of songs, this may take awhile. I have over 25,000 files, so it took at least 18 hours.
    6) When it's done, quit notepad and save the XML file. Open iTunes. If it doesn't automatically start updating your library, then try to play a song. If you get the same old error, then quite iTunes, then re-open it, go to the advanced preferences and select the correct file path for the library location. This should fix it.

I am also finding many "ghost file" duplicate files (with the exclamation point "can not locate files" message), after pointing Itunes version 8.2.1.6 to my music folder on a separate, networked hard drive. My understanding is that the "Consolidate Files" feature in Itunes is supposed to properly identify all of the file locations, but it only worked for about 1/5 of our 10,000 plus files before it stopped running. (I've read in other forums that this software is buggy, and gets confused with long song titles, etc.)It also leaves you with duplicate "ghost" files to delete, when the music from the separate drive is "added".
I can not find a file called ituneslibrary.xml to try your suggestion, when I open my Itunes folder. When I do "get info" on the individual music files in Itunes that can't be located, the "where" field = "not available". I have doublechecked the library location in preferences and it is properly pointed to "K:\itunes" which is the correct location.

  • Cannot edit MP4 files, maybe compression error?

Hi, I'm new to Final Cut Express. I just bought it to replace iMovie. But I'm having a issue - only had it open for not even a hour and I started getting a "General Error", specifically "Out of Memory". It was a mp4 clip, like this:
    MPEG-4 MOVIE
    1280x720
H.264, MPEG 4 HIGH EFFICIENCY AAC
    2 (Audio Channels)
    3,127 (Bit rate)
    45.5 MB
I browsed the forums for a bit, trying to figure out what I could do to make the errors go away. I've never had problems with compression or anything like this before. I saw somewhere that I should use MPEG Streamclip to convert the clip to .mov using Apple Intermediate, but MPEG couldn't edit the file either, although it played it fine. I tried going in and trying to export to .mov via Quicktime, but it only exported a completely white video with normal audio. I have no idea what to do now.
Why is this happening, how do I fix or prevent it from happening??
    Message was edited by: BreatheHorror

I think you missed me a little here... from MPEG Streamclip, I took the original dimensions and tried to convert it to quicktime with the following settings:
    APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC
    QUALITY 100%
    UNCOMPRESSED SOUND
    1280x720 UNSCALED
    FRAMERATE 29.97
When I try to convert like this, using any of the clips (the clip I had originally talked about was one out of a batch of twenty, I tested them all last night after posting a realized they all get the same error) I get a empty, 0kb file and a Error that says it can't prepare the movie.
FCE won't even open the video at all. I can import it, but when I try to open it with the viewer it doesn't open, it simply spits out a general memory error. It's my Quicktime that does the white screen every time I try and convert the movie through it.
I will however, try to change the setup of my FCE Sequence... when trying to use this clips I was using HDV-APPLE INTERMEDIATE CODEC 1080i50. I was using it because I need the 1080p (this is for Youtube) and it was the only easy setup that was the size I needed. I'm a noob, I don't have any idea on how to change the size of the video (just any easy setup gives me the old square video, so if I try to change it when rendering the clips would be all placed weird with possible gaps).

  • As administrator, I cannot edit certain files unless I add read/write/etc. for the Users group.

I'm administering a Subversion server running on Windows Server 2008 R2.  When I need to add access to SVN repositories, I need to edit a svnaccess.txt file.  This file sits under C:\Program Files(x86)\CollabNet\Subversion Server.  When I
attempt to edit the file, though, I cannot save it unless I save it to a new file.
My account is part of the local administrators group.  All of the folders and subfolders in the path have Full Control enabled for Administrators.  The file itself also has Full Control enabled for Administrators.  Yet, the only way I can
edit this file is to add Modify and Write permissions to the local Users group even though my account is only part of the local administrators group.
What's odd too, is that if I can edit these permissions I must have the appropriate administrator privileges.
I searched for this a while back and recall seeing a hotfix for this as it was a known bug in Windows Server 2008, however, I cannot for the life of me find this link anymore nor do I see a fix like this on the hotfix spreadsheet.  I need to locate
the hotfix that corrects this to provide to our system admins.  For some reason, they will only install hotfixes if a problem is identified.
If anyone knows of the hotfix that corrects this issue, please let me know! :)
    Thank you!

    Hi,
As you said, if a user account belong to local Administrators account, when only Administrators group has permission on a folder, all admins except Administrator account will not have permission to access it.
This is caused by UAC. All accounts in local Administrators group are actually working as standard accounts. When an Administrator action need to be performed, a prompt will occurs for permission to promote to admin permission. As only Administartors group
has permission on a folder and the account we are using is working like a standard account, we will be denied from accessing.
A workaround is to create a new group for all admins and give the group enough permission for accessing the target folder.
Or you could run all accounts in Administartors group in Admin mode. See this article:

  • I am getting a message on most of my tunes "cannot find original file"  what happened????

Help!!!  I have most of my iTunes marked with an EXCLAIMATON MARK! and when I click on them it says the original file cannot be found....I did not delete anything yet when I synced my iPad yesterday only 54 songs loaded...........WHAT HAPPENED???  Did I loose all my music...can I get them back...does iTunes have copies of all my songs somewhere that I can retrieve them?????     I have most of them on my iPod nano...can that be synced back to iTunes???     Yikes, HELP!!!

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Original file gone, but iPhoto still shows preview

I have lost the original files but can still see previews when I look in the Last 12 Months import tab. I've tried to drag one to the desktop but I get an error that says, "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." I have upgraded from iLife 06 before losing the original files. Is there a way to get these back?

It sounds like a corrupt library
If you do not have a current backup of the library6.iphoto file to restore then Rebuild your library - quit iPhoto, backup your iphoto library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and rebuild
if that does not work download iPhoto library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - and use its rebuild function
If that does not work you will need to create a new library - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library to the desktop (it's default location is in your pictures folder), launch iPhoto and create a new library, make sure the preference to split items imported from the finder is unchecked, and open the iPhoto library on your desktop and open the originals folder - drag each folder in the originals folder onto the iPhoto icon in the dock - this will retain your events without edits, keywords and projects

  • Setting temp directory for editing original files

    Experts,
Is there a way to default the temporary working directory where a document is stored while editing it in a DIR?  This is what we are experiencing:  When a user creates a DIR and uploads a Word file into the DIR, the Original field on the document details perserves the path where the file was uploaded from, i.e. s:/share_drive.  When another user goes into the same DIR and tries to edit the file, the program tries to create a working copy of the file in u:/share_drive.  If the second user does not have access to this path, they get an error.
Is there a way to set the Original field an all files uploaded and stored in DMS to be a common working directory like c:\temp?

    Hi Andrew
Th eoriginal is checked into sap/content server
Te original gets saved in a temp location in the users desktop when the user opens the original from DIR.
Check whether te folowing setting is maintained against pc or not.
SPRO-----DMS-Define Data CarrierDefine data carrier type servers and frontend maintain the temp location like C:\temp or tmp.

  • WebDocuments: Cannot open original files

We are testing WebDocuments - BSP,which is used to retrieve data from SAP - DMS(Document Management System).
When we try to open any original file in any one of the documents, we get exception. All other functions are working all right. Can anybody help me with this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sergey

    Hi Ali,
Thanks for your answer, it helped us a lot. We solved the problem with original files - it was content server error. Now we are trying to implement WebDocuments in another SAP system and got error message when starting WebDocuments:
    Business Server Page (BSP) error
    What happened?
Calling the BSP page was terminated due to an error.
    SAP Note
The following error text was processed in the system:

Do you know what does it mean? We made exactly the same actions as in the first SAP system, so what can be the problem?
    Thanks a lot,

  • After installing update I have the "cannot find original file" message

After installing the latest version of iTunes to my pc today, the vast majority of my songs have a message "The song XX could not be used because the original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it?"  Yes I would!  Any help much appreciated.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. (In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows if this might apply.)
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links. Although it says something like "use the same location" it expects to find the tracks in the same artist & album layout that it generates, not all in one big folder.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

  • Acrobat XI error "you cannot edit this file as a form"

    Hi
I have some form fields in an editable PDF file I created earlier and want to copy these over to a new PDF file. However even after saving a copy I get the error message below with no further information. This was never a problem in Acrobat X.
I have not password protected it.
    thanks for any help

if Acrobat/Reader is saying that the file is PDF/A then the file is claiming that it is.
You can use Acrobat Professional to remove any trace of PDF/A complaince using its Preflight feature.
