Wedge [Keyboard] Scanners and R/3

Question

Assuming that barcodes have a standard format and dissasembly algorithm (I don't really know much about these), RF Scanners can interact with SAPConsole in order to move data back and forth from/to R/3.
In the case of a USB-attached wedge scanner [keyboard], is there any special software required in order to translate scanned barcode or will the terminal [PC] be able to translate a barcode into a material # + quantity and populate a transactional field in R/3 (see transaction C011N, "Yield" field, for example)?
In the case of the wedge scanner, we are sort of hoping that the wedge scanner (at entry point) acts justs as if I were manually typing some information into a transaction field.  In this way, I might be able to enhance the transaction directly for some additional error catching.

Hi Tavares,
I hope that I am not adding more confusion to your requirement.
I found many user-exists in the transaction.
Probably you can show a popup screen from the user-exit just before running the transaction through user-exit.
So the popup window will be active always wen you run the transaction, so here your bar code will be captured.
Now add code to the user-exit to validate the barcode.
I am not sure which user-exit is usefull to your requirement.
