Weird? Externalizing writes out transient fields automatically...

Essentially, I made up some class implementing Externalizable - with empty write/readExternal methods. Some how, the transient field have been writtena dnread back. From the stuff I''ve read about this, nothing mentions externalizable overriding the "don't write transient fields behaviour". The weird thing is: externalizable is supposed be when you need to say explicitly how to write your object (field by field for e.g.). When I ran this, I got all the fields written and read...
import java.io.*;
public class SerializationExample {
     public static void main(String[] args) {
          try {
               ToBeWritten tbw = new ToBeWritten();
               FileOutputStream f_out = new FileOutputStream("test");
               ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(f_out);
               out.writeObject(tbw);
               out.close();
               FileInputStream f_in = new FileInputStream("test");
               ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(f_in);
               ToBeWritten tbr = (ToBeWritten) in.readObject();
               in.close();
               System.out.println(tbr.privateField);
               System.out.println(tbr.staticField);
               System.out.println(tbr.transientField);
          } catch (Exception e) {
               System.out.println(e);
     static class ToBeWritten implements Externalizable {
          private String staticField = "staticField";
          transient String transientField = "transientField";
          private String privateField = "privateField";
          public void writeExternal(ObjectOutput out) throws IOException {
          public void readExternal(ObjectInput in) throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException {
          public ToBeWritten() {
}

ejp, you description is more accurate.
Technically, the serialization code creates an new constructor for the class which calls the first non serializable super class's no-arg constructor method, provided that constructor is public, protected or (package-private and in the same package as the class)
If the first non-serializable no-args contructor is not accessible, an InvalidClassException is thrown.
As ejp points out, it is more complex than most author would suggest.
@see code for java.io.ObjectStreamClass.getSerializableConstructor(Class)

  • How do you grey out/disable fields under a radio button if another radio button is selected in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

    How do you grey out/disable fields under a radio button if another radio button is selected in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?
    I’m creating a form where the user has three options to make a payment.
    1. charge to my credit card
    2. charge associated costs to bank account
    3. By cheque or money order
    My Problem is, under each option, there are required fields that has to be filled out. So if the user picks the first option, charge to my credit card, they would fill out the required fields (credit card number, expiration date etc.). But when they click submit button to submit the form, it won’t let them, because there are required fields under the second option. Also, I have the radio buttons for the three options setup so that if the user holds the shift key and clicks a radio button, it unchecks it. So what I'm trying to do is this: If the user selects the radio button for option 1, the other two options are greyed out/disabled. And if the user holds down the shift key and clicks radio button for option one again, it unchecks the radio button and the other two options are available again. Is there a way to grey out or disable the two other payment options when the other one is picked. I’m assuming I will have to use javascript, but what would the coding be and which field do I write it under?
    Thanks in advance guys

    You will have to use custom JavaScript to access the various properties of the field object.
    The radio button group has a value. When no button is selected that value is "Off". When an individual button has been selected the value for the group will be the option or export value for that individual button.
    Once you have determined the button selected, then you will know the form fields that need to be made required. You use JavaScript to access those fields and change the "read only" property to false, and set the "required" property to true. For the fields associated with the other options, those fields should be reset, made read only, and have the "required" property set to false.
    Disabling (graying-out) Form Fields
    >> Also, I have the radio buttons for the three options setup so that if the user holds the shift key and clicks a radio button, it unchecks it.
    Radio button in a PDF do not work that way. Only check boxes can be unchecked by clicking on one that has been checked.
    If you plan the coding for the Mouse UP action to test for all possible options and code for each of those options you should have what you want.
    If you want actual code you need to provide a lot more details.
    It is even possible to perform some credit card and bank routing number validations with JavaScript and some check digit formulas.

  • What is the idea of having STRING type when you can't write into that field

    Hello friends
    I am desperately trying to write to a field of a database table with DATA TYPE 'STRING'.
    When I try to write it using a program from < SE38> or a function <SE37>, I get following error message, while activating the program.
    ============================================================
    <DATABASE_TABLE> must be a flat structure. You cannot use internal tables,
    strings, references, or structures as components.
    ============================================================
    So, I have been going in circle to find out how to write a string into this field.
    I can't use the CHAR or any such type with a limited field length, since the requirement from my customer is to use a variable length string.
    Has anybody seen this problem before and if you have resolved this issue, I would appreciate if you can please let me know.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Ram

    Hi Harish
    Thanks for your response.
    I can create the table with the data type 'String'. However, the problem is when I try to update the table from a program in SE38 or a Function Module in SE37.
    When I try to activate the PROGRAM or FUCNTION, I GET A MESSAGE THAT I MENTIONED EARLIER.
    Here is the simple program that I have created that I am not able to activate
    ==========================================
    REPORT  ZTEST_STRING1.
    tables: ztest.
    ztest-zid = 2.
    ztest-zstring1 = 'ABC'.
    insert ztest.
    ===========================================
    ztest has two fields
    zid which is NUMC type
    and zstring1 which is STRING type.
    When I try to activate I get an error message as follows:
    'ztest' must be a flat structure. You cannot use internal tables,
    strings, references, or structures as components.

  • OCI mapping for External Punch Out Catalog - SRM

    Dear SRM Gurus,
    We are using SRM 7.0 Classic scenario.
    We have a scenario to External punch out catalog. I am  aware of Web service call structure, UI config and  BADIs.
    But I am very much confused that how exactly the External Catalog data will be mapped to SRM? Where would be the inbound OCI mapping done for External Punch out catalog.
    Kindly share your knowledge.
    Thanks.
    Regarsd, Magesh.

    Magesh,
    The OCI field mapping is done as specified in OCI 4.0 specification. If you like technical details on exactly where the mapping happens, you can search for FM OCI. Also, the CATALOG_TRANSFER BADI can be used to read the data that has been mapped and change if needed.

  • Use of transient fields in Collections Framework?

    Hi all,
    I've been playing around with the reflection API for introspecting various members of the Collection Framework (CF).
    It turns out that many of the fields used by the members of the CF use the transient fields for their data-storage. For example: ArrayLists stored their elements in a transient field named elementData.
    Following the Java Language Specification, the transient fields are therefore not part of the object's persistent state. As a consequence, it is "not" possible to make such an object persistent (although, from what I understood, you could serialize such an object including its element data).

    Is there any particular reason why those fields are

A class marks a field transient simply to inform the default serialization mechanism that the field does not form part of the persistent representation. Typically this is either because it is only used for cacheing purposes, or because the class itself takes responsibility for the persisted form.
    The Collections classes often have a complexity in their memory representation that is related to their performance requirements, but which serves no purpose in their persisted form. Consider a TreeMap, for example. Its memory representation involves a tree, but the only things that need to be persisted are the key/value pairs. Persisting the tree would be wasteful in both time and peristent storage.

  • How to gray out certain fields on the selection screen based on the radio b

    HI All,
      I have an ALV report. On the selection screen I have 2 radio buttons ..for eg..A and B.
    When radio button A(its on by default) is on..certain fields not relevant to this should be grayed out. Similarly when radio button B is on, certain fields should be grayed out.
    I did the AT SELECTION SCREEN OUTPUT and also did the

  • Fill transaction fields automatically through code

    Hi Gurus,
    Every time we create a material we have to extend it in all plants and in all storage location of every plant.
    The steps that we are using are: We first create the material to a plant and a storage location using transaction
    MM01. Then we use transaction mm17 and we extend the materials in all plants automatically.
    Then we use transaction MMSC to extend material to every storage location. We enter the material code, the plant code and after hitting enter we fill the fields with the storage locations of the plant where we want to extend material to. We have 9 plants and 3 storage location on every plant, so we do this procedure (mmsc) 9 x 3 = 27 times.
    Is there a way to write code to fill automatically the fields in MMSC transcaction from a file so that can automate the procedure? Any Ideas how to start?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi!
    Here's an example of this stuff, 100% working, but of course you have to change the BDC part for your code...
    REFRESH: gt_bdcdata.
          PERFORM bdc_dynpro      USING 'ZMFI_AA_KTGH' '9502'.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'BDC_OKCODE' '=ENTER'.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'ANLZ-KOSTL' gs_change_asset-kostl.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'ANLZ-ADATU' gs_change_asset-bdatu.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'ANLZ-PERNR' gs_change_asset-pernr.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'ANLZ-STADT' gs_change_asset-stadt.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'ANLZ-XSTIL' gs_change_asset-xstil.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'ANLZ-RAUMN' gs_change_asset-raumn.
          PERFORM bdc_dynpro      USING 'ZMFI_AA_KTGH' '9502'.
          PERFORM bdc_field       USING 'BDC_OKCODE' 'DUMMY_OK_CODE'.
          MOVE 'E' TO lv_mode.
          CALL TRANSACTION 'ZMFIAA_MOD' USING gt_bdcdata
                                             MODE lv_mode.
    It is very important to give a 'DUMMY_OK_CODE' where you wanted to stop the processing. It is because the dummy ok code will cause a BDC error and the process will stop there and you'll get back the control.

  • How to find out important fields in table like MARA?

    How to find out important fields in a table for example like MARA?
    Details: In R/3 or ECC table for example MARA;
    1) How to find out what are the important fields?
    2)Does the table have only key figures not characteristics right?
    3) There are so many tables in FI; Can you please tell me what are the important tables?
    4) There is any easy automatic way to figure out that the particular datasource for example 2lis_02_item is pulling data from so and so table. I like to know the process not the results please.
    Thanks in advance.
    York.

    Hi York,
       Let me go by points:
    1. There is nothing like important fields ... The question could be Key fields ... the fields which identify a record uniquely ... If you go to SE11, and go inot the dispaly of MARA table ... you will see that there is tick mark under key to indicate that the field is a key field ... All the fields which are so marked would identify a record in the table uniquely. If your question is otherwise ... (Important fields) ... then it depends on the purpose you wnat to meet ... Some fields might be important for me but not for you ... so there is not hard nad fast rule for important fields.
    2. No... Tables in R/3 or ECC would contain both Key figures and characteristics.
    3. Important tables in FI would be BKPF, BSEG and BSET.
    4. The procedure for finding out which table are used by say 2lis_02_item would be different from that of other non LO/LIS extractors.
    In case of LO/LIS turn on the trace (below process) while populating the setup tables and for thoers while executing RSA3.
    1. Open one session and go to ST05, click on "Activate Trace"
    2. Open another session and execute the transaction you want to track for the tables it is going to hit.
    3. Go to the session of point 1 above and click on DEACTIVATE TRACE
    4. Click on DISPLAY Trace
    This will show you all the tables that were hit while extracting data. Point to remember here is ... it will hit some standard tables as well ... so you will have to filter out what is relevant from what is not.
    Hope this helps.
    best regards,
    Kazmi

  • Transient fields in Path2d

    Hello

  • Aggregate value of a transient field is not updated from cache

    Hello together,
    A view object has a transient field which display the count of records from a view accessor. In the EO for the view object ( of the view accessor) opearations on rows are perfomed from a different view object, this changes are not reflected in the transient field value.
    I know is not very clear,here is sample:
    Woker VO
    -Worker EO
    Worker2Department VO
    -Worker2Department EO
    Department VO
    -Deparment EO
    -workerCount: WorkersCounterViewAccesor.count("WorkerID")
    WorkerCounter VO
    -Worker EO
    -Worker2Department EO
    attribute binding: DepartmentID
    If from Worker2Department records are deleted or inserted, the value of workerCount is not updated.
    I've try to executeQuery on each view object,without success. I've notice that the WorkerCounter VO is having always the same records count after Worker2Department VO is updated.
    If the method getDBTransaction().postChanges() is invoked, then the data is correctly fetched but then there are different other problems, and i would like to avoid using of postChanges().
    My question is: why when rows are inserted/removes into/from a view object the changes are not visibile on different view objects declared for the same entiy object? Or how to make sure that the changes from an entity object are reflected in each view object that are using it?
    Thank you a lot,
    Bogdan

    Hi,
    If you place the 0WBS_ELM_EX  in the ODS ,either in the key field or in the data field , you can find it as a charecteristic in the report and you can drag it into the rows.
    To reflet the changes that you made to the masterdata , you need to run the attribute change run every time you load the data .

  • [Flat File Destination [220]] Error: Failed to write out column name for column "Column 2"

    I am using SSIS to extract fixed width data into a flat file destination and I keep getting below error. I have tried almost everything in this forum but still no solution. can anyone help me out to solve this problem.
    [Flat File Destination [220]] Error: Failed to write out column name for column "Column 2".
    [SSIS.Pipeline] Error: component "Flat File Destination" (220) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202095
    Thanks

    Hi Giss68,
    Could you check the Advanced tab of the Flat File Connection Manager to see whether the InputColumnWidth and the OutputColumnWidth properties of the Column2 has the same value? Please refer to the following link about the same topic:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10292091/how-do-i-fix-failed-to-write-error-while-exporting-data-to-ragged-right-flat-fil
    If it doesn’t work, please post the sample data and the advanced settings of Column2 for further analysis.

  • How can I change the behavior of the Green Enter button when filling out a field in a form? Current it submits the entire form, I would like it to tab to the next field instead

    When using Firefox for Andriod:
    When filling out a field on a form, they keyboard has a Green Enter button that submits the entire form. However, there are multiple fields on the page, and I would like it to tab to the next field. At the very least not submit the form.
    Also, is there a way to configure the keyboard that shows up for each html5 input type?

    They keyboard that shows up has the large "Green Enter" go button, a backspace and some arrow keys, but no tab button.
