Weird folder problem

Hi guys, we've got a NAS server in the office we use to save stuff on and it's mapped to drive letter X. but the odd thing is when we start up photoshop it creates a folder on the X drive, and i have to keep deleting it - it's really annoying actually. it's just on photoshop startup and not any other apps. and you delete the folder and next time you start photoshop up again bang it's back. and it's confusing cos it's making a folder with that computer's username or windows name etc (home folder name i'd call it on linux i suppose but we use windows at work)... so people are going into that folder at work instead of the actual user folder by accident.
can anyone help stop this
cheers

i wonder if anyone knows a way to log the startup of photoshop to check what's doing it?

  • Weird Folder Problem (Directory Folder changed to Unix Excecutable file?)

I didn't know where to put this so mods, feel free to move this to the section it needs to be under.
I'm running Mavericks on an iMac and had an external HDD attached to my iMac. However, I wanted to reach the files on the ex-hdd from my other computers also, so I moved the external hdd and attached it to my time capsule instead.
All was OK for the first few days, but now I'm needing to edit some photos from the external hdd, and now one of the file directories has changed from a folder containing all my blogs' important files to a folder I cannot open, a unix expectable file?
That folder had all my backups and blog files in it, and is extremely important. I haven't changed any settings at all. I've had to create another folder to store new files, but I really need to access the files in that folder.
It's showing as 46MB so I'm hoping that my files are in there somehow, but is there anyway to access them and rescue?
Now who can coming running to this damsel in distress? Looks like the time has come for double backups on different locations.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lisa.

  • Weird internet problem / ssl connection error, site loads in safari not in firefox or other way around

I really can't figure out this problem. Search the internet tried all kinds of things, nothing help so far.
I have a Macbook Pro (Lion originally installed) running on Mavericks (all latest updates). SSD installed and the DVD tray is replaced by the original HDD.
The laptop wasn't running very smooth anymore so decided to give it a fresh Mavericks install (even though I know it's not really necessary for mac, it helped, everything is much faster except a weird internet problem came up).
After freshly installing Mavericks I couldn't get into my google account anymore, just wouldn't load. Tried Safari (use this normally) and Firefox and Chrome, this last was gave a SSL connection error, both Safari and FF said the website couldn't be loaded because the server didn't respond. For Gmail I use Mailplane which is just stuck on a white page. I tried repairing the keychain, repaired disk and disk permissions, cleaned browsers, turned off firewall and antivirus (Shopos) started in safe mode, checked time settings which were all good. Nothing of this helped. I even ended up creating a usb bootdisk for Mavericks, formatted the disk and reinstalled from the start just Mavericks and nothing else, started Safari, still the same problem. As even this didn't help I figured it's not worth reinstalling all software so put back my backup.
Now I ended up somehow only being able to use Gmail normally in Firefox, Chrome still gives SSL error and Safari can load the inbox, but I can't open any messages. I get the error there is a problem with the connection. If I try in Basic HTML mode it surprisingly does work.
You would say, just use Firefox, finished...but the thing is that sometimes random websites won't load in Firefox, when I load the same site in Safari it works perfectly.
O yes, I also tried the connect to my iPhone and use the Cellular data network, then it's no problem using Gmail in Safari normally. You would say it's a router problem, but I have another Macbook Pro (just one model later running Mountain Lion) this one works perfectly with every browser. Also my iPhone does everyting logged into the WiFi network.
You can understand I really have no clue what's going on here, I don't see any logic. I can only think of a hardware problem in my Macbook, but don't see how that could cause these problems.
I hope someone is ably to help me ?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Folder problems on external drive, not showing correct file size

I've run across a strange problem. I'm media managing for a tv show, meaning I'm offloading video from CF cards onto 2 external drives, one is a Drobo Raid (set up for backup) and another is a Lacie rugged drive. After copying the media to both drives, the folder I copy will match, but sometimes as I drill upward in my folder structure, suddenly the file sizes will not match. To be more clear: 2 folders will show differing file sizes, but inside that folder is only another folder, nothing else, which matches across the drives. I've shown all files in finder and there's no hidden files, though sometimes I see the ds_store files are different sizes (8k vs 16k), but that's not always the case. Sometimes if I simply create a new folder and move it's contents into it I can get the folders to match, but sometimes that doesn't work. It's part of my workflow to show that these copies match exactly via screenshots, and although the most important folder (the direct folder holding the footage) always matches, these folder problems are super frustrating as it's not constant, and any workarounds also work inconsistantly.
I had an accidental disconnect of the Drobo one time, and although none of the data seems to have any problem, I fear it's done something to the directory. The rugged drive is swapped out every few days and the problem seems to be on the Drobo. Because the nature of the data is pretty important, I'm afraid to just try messing around with repairing or other software solutions unless I know it's super safe and won't harm the data.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it and at the very least how to avoid it cropping up. Any help or insight would be appreciated!

I had the same problem with my iMac, first I repaired the disk, then I ejected the disk, restarted, and then reinserted the USB in a different port.  All of my files magically showed up.  I don't know what caused the error but it has been working fine since.

  • Weird audio problem during calls

I have a weird audio problem and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or could help...
My wife and I both have iPhone 5's and sometimes (not all the time) when she calls me (or I call her), it connects, but no matter which audio input I choose (phone, bluetooth, speaker, headphones), I cannot hear her, but she can hear me... I hang up, call back (and when I call, there is no dialing sound, nor any other phone sounds) and it's the same thing. Sometimes restarting the phone works, other times I have to restart it 3-4 times before it'll work again.  I try different things during these calls, like turning on/off bluetooth and/or wifi (pretty much anything I can think of that would make a difference), but nothing seems to help.
The (other) weird part is that after the last time of this happening, I tried calling my iPhone with my office phone and it worked fine, so then I immediately call my wife back with my iPhone and it was doing the same thing again. I called her back using my office phone and could talk to her fine...
This problem has been going on for a few months now and I have tried restoring the phone a couple times (and I am on the latest iOS) and sadly, that hasn't done anything to help... Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? I'd make an appointment for the problem, but since it doesn't do it all the time, I don't know what good it would do... But it is getting very frustrating!
    Thanks for any help!
    -Jason

Thanks for the response!  It happened again yesterday...  It seems to be happening more frequently in the past few weeks now.
I checked the link and have tried all of the things listed at one point or another over the past few months.  I did just check my Carrier settings and it said it had updated (it's on 14.1), but I am not sure when that happened (could have been today, could have been after my last restore last week, not sure).  I'll keep my fingers crossed that maybe that fixed it...
If it continues to act up, would you recommend that I bring the phone in to an Apple store or an AT&T store?  I bought the phone through Apple, but my carrier is AT&T (and if you suspect that the problem may be with the cellular conection), maybe the AT&T store would be the better choice?
I really wish the problem would be more consistant or go away, cause trying to get the problem solved is driving me crazy!

  • Slooow internet and weird mouse problems?

I recently upgraded my iMac to Leopard (10.5.4) and started having weird mouse problems. At start up, mouse would be frozen in upper left corner. I'd restart, switch mice, restart, over and over. I use a Wacom tablet w cordless mouse plus Apples alum cordless keyboard. Eventually I tried switching USB ports for my Wacom tablet and the mouse was OK. I have learned that when this problem occurs, I need to shut down and unplug everything. That seems to solve it. Anyone know why? ALSO, ever since upgrading I have found the Internet to be appallingly slow. I have 2 GB memory and just upped my internet speed (supposedly) through Embarq.

hmm, what is a mouse usb or a keyboard usb?
arent all the usb ports same?
I really wish to show you how this happens it is really fun, but also annoying. especially when I am playing a game. it is interesting to watch the screen when suddenly all the world starts rotating when you are playing a first person shot'm up.

  • Any Update on the "Ghost Folder" Problem

Just wondering if there has been any furhter insight into the "Ghost Folder" problem created after editing in PS CS3 (from LR2)?
Is there any manual way to get the image from the ghost folder to appear back in the proper folder?
    Thanks
    Ken

    Hi Guy,
    Thanks for the reply.
When I edited the image in PS CS3 I saved it to a folder as a .tif (so I could send it to a print lab). When I went back to LR2 the saved tif did not show up in my tif folder so I synchronized that folder and that's when it showed up in the "ghost folder" in LR2. When I look at the original folder of tifs this particualr image doesn't show up. I then tried to move (drag and drop) from the ghost folder into the original tif folder but LR tells me there is already an image there by that name.
So if I manually remove the ghost folder (via LR or in windows) what will happen to the saved tif?
Right now I have PS CS3 set up as the first editor in the preferences, with tif as thw working format. Are you suggesting that PS be set up as the additional editor as well? WHat do I put in the preference for the primary editor?
BTW, I am also working in Win XP Pro.
    Thanks
    Ken

  • KT6V Weird boot problems

    Hi..
I'm having this weird boot problem (and no it doesn't seem to be the standard one)
    OK..
    I have the following :
    AMD Athlon 2000+
    KT6V LSR mainboard
    2x 256 Crucial PC2700 memory
    IDE Hard Disk (120gb segate)
    Creative 5700ultra Graphics card (AGP)
    Cd Rom
    Chieftec 400w PSU
    WinXP Pro
If I set my CPU FSB to 100mhz (everything else on auto).. win Xp pro boots fine and all is pretty good except that my chip is now seen as a lowly 1.25ghz..
If I then set my CPU FSB to 133 or 166 then the machine boots (ie it beeps etc..).. starts to load windows xp (I get the logo and that's when the problem happens)  and either black screens (ie.. nothing and the monitor turns off) or blue screens with the windows message saying that windows has detected a hardware fault and has halted the system..
I know my memory, chip, heatsink etc all work because just over an hour ago they all worked fine in my KT3 ultra.
What is going on as I've tried almost everything to try and solve this, with the only option to set the FSb to 100mhz which is incorrect for my CPU.
    How do I fix this.
I've looked through the forum but this is not the same problem as simple reboots.. this is weird.
If I can't fix this then I guess it'll be send it back.. which is a shame because I like MSi motherboards.
    Thanks
    Slippery

    Hi..
I've checked the CPU heatsink.. and nothings wrong !
(Can't check the voltage but I know the PSU is Ok as I did run it in a custom case with 4 Cd writters, 4 HDs, loads of lights etc.. before I moved to this new plain case tonight)
What's weird is that set at 100FSb it's fine but at 133 or 166 it just crashes after the loading XP logo is displayed. Up until that point it's all fine.
But why does it run Ok at 100mhz and not 133mhz ?
Please help..  before I end up fixing this with a hammer !
    Thanks

  • Weird flashing problem - cannot rename any file or folder in Movies

I have a problem affecting just my Movies folder. Whenever I view it in the Finder, the edge of the Finder window will flash once every four seconds. If I am trying to rename an item within the Movies folder when the flash happens, I get dumped out of the name editor and the file or folder is given the partially-typed name.
It only happens when I'm viewing the Movies folder in the Finder. Any ideas?

What do you mean by "flashing"? Can you post a video or photos for us to see?

  • Weird folder position problem

OK I am going to try and explain this the best that I can.
    1. I go into my "Full CDs" folder on my storage drive
    2. Inside that folder is over 100 folders. I view this folder in "Icon" view mode
    3. Say I scroll down to a folder that starts with the letter "R" like "Rage Against The Machine"
    4. I go into the folder and look around a bit
    5. I hit the back button that returns me to the "Full CDs" folder
    6. The problem is that I am no longer in the "R" section anymore but now I start at the very top of the folders in the "A" section.
Now I know in XP and Vista when you go into a folder and then back out, it will "remember your position" in the folder and you will not be returned to the top of the folder. I hope I have explained everything in detail enough. I am using v10.5.2. Please let me know if you need more information. Thanks!

    r6danl wrote:

There is no inherent "A" or "R" section in icon view -- it is a free form view that allows you to group icons however you want. You can override this with the 'arrange by ...' & 'snap to grid' view options, but this is a dynamic (on-the-fly) ordering & may or may not be by name. (In an inherently ordered view like list view, you are returned to the same scroll point in the window.)
So to be more precise, the issue with Leopard in icon view is that you are always returned to the default top left +area of the window+, in which the last folder opened may sometimes not be visible, depending on the number of items in the window & their icon size & spacing.
This apparently is by design & is linked to the (to me annoying) Leopard feature of a global default view mode (sometimes referred to as a "preferred" view) instead of Tiger's "sticky" view-per-window behavior. That is supposedly intended to reduce user confusion when switching from one folder to another in the same window; presumably, this is for the same reason.
I think both are poor design decisions. If you agree, let Apple know through the feedback link; otherwise, the behavior(s) won't get changed.

  • Weird intermittent problems with itunes

I had problems with info getting greyed out when looking at music library. One data field was greyed out and this occurred intermittently throughout the library.
So the only way I could fix it was to edit the data entry, add a space at the end of it and press enter. Then go back and re-edit it and remove the space.
I also had problems trying to edit data in the data fields. The data field kept getting reset to what was in there after editing and erasing the info in the data field. This happened for about half an hour. Each edit was undone.
Is this just a problem with version 7.2? Seems that a lot of weird problems occured after upgrading to that version. Now that a newer version has come out, I hope the issues will be gone.

I also had strange problems with Itunes saying I did not have access or something to convert some files to other formats. I checked the library folder and the files and had the proper priviledges to access the files. However, Itunes refused to let me convert the files so I had to run quicktime which converted the files without a hitch.

  • Garage band (2.0.2) and MIDI - weird sound problems

hi, i have just bought a new keyboard (Yamaha PSR 450), as well as a USB-to-MIDI cable, to connect my keyboard to my mac, for garage band. the cable is "m-audio midisport UNO" (MIDI IN/MIDI OUT-to-USB).
when i connect my keyboard to my mac, open up garage band and try to play or record and play, the sounds coming out of garage band are weird. the track was the default software track (piano), but when i played, only about 30% of what i played came out right, the rest was either this (very) high-pitched piano sound or nothing at all, and at random intervals too, e.g. i press 'middle c', and no sound comes out my computer, i press it again, this time it plays, but high-pitched. i press it again, now it plays right etc. etc. there doesn't seem to be any pattern. also, most of the time when it actually played the 'middle c', once i let go, the sound continued for ages, like i had a huge sustain on or something.
what's more weird is, if i have a recording on my keyboard (it has 6 tracks) and press play, the sound comes out perfect on garage band, so it's just when i play "live".
I've been messing around with settings on both my keyboard and mac, but nothing seems to work.
i read in the Yamaha manual that if the USB - MIDI cable is longer than 15ft, there can be "noise and data errors". this sounds exactly like what im getting, but the cable is not 15ft. its about 7-8ft. maybe the cable is low-quality? it cost me £32! -_-
any info or help would be extremely appreciated.
    thanks
    peace

    hey, thanks.
i downloaded the latest driver, but it still has the same problems.
maybe my MIDI setup is wrong.
when i open my MIDI setup panel in the utilities folder, it has:
IAC Driver (don't know what this is, can't really change anything anyway)
Network (again, i don't know what this is for, i havent touched anything)
USB Uno MIDI Interface. i can't change any info on this either, but i clicked it and then pressed "Test Setup" and this short continous bleep noise went off, untill i clicked "Test Setup" again to turn it off. im guessing this means it's working?
i even double checked that the MIDI IN/OUT plugs were in the right sockets in my keyboard!
either garage band doesn't properly support my keyboard or the cable
    or
the cable is low-quality and i need to get the recomended yamaha one.
i cant think of anything else that could be wrong. of course i know next to nothing about MIDI so there may be loads of things i have not figured out yet.
are there any free/demo MIDI music software for mac i could download to test it?
    thanks for helping
    peace

  • Finder creates dated folder problem?

This is a bit of a faf, tried to fit whole question into box above only to find i get a whole text box later on...
Anyway, i'm having a problem in Finder. When set to Columns, and Arranged by Date Added (may do it in more, but this is what i know it does it in), the finder creates new folders within my folders. These folders are called "Today", "Previous 7 Days", "Previous 30 Days", and "Earlier" depending on when the file/folder was added. I know these titles are supposed to be grey text, but on my machine they are empty folders, and after a look through a few random folder they start to get confused and eventually the Finder will crash. This gives the computer a certain human quality which is quite endearing, but not really what i am after from a cold lump of plastic and metal. Has anyone else come across this or know the solution to this weird bug?
    Thanks for any help.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • N82 v 20.0.062 RM-313 WEIRD BROWSER PROBLEMS WITH ...

Watching videos on youtube via standard built-in nokia browser worked flawlessly on my nokia N82 black. Right out of the box I could watch standard desktop version of youtube webpage and play any video
BUT ... suddenly (and I have no idea what has caused this) it stopped working and it doesn't work anymore after hard reset (*#7370*) and even after reflashing firmware.
    1)
First of all the main youtube webpage looks weird right at the start - the logo YOUTUBE on the top of the page looks as if it had 16 colours (you can obviously see something isn't right with the browser - but this happenes only on youtube webpage)
    2)
When you click any video it will either
    A) crash the browser or
    B) whole page will load except the video (the area where the video is supposed to be will stay blank)
Any idea what might be causing this? Anyone else having these issues?

as you said you even reinstalled your software? bet you also did a backup and restored it?
if you did you also "replaced" the problem after the software update
what i suggest and it is a long process
1.save all your data...not using the pc suite backup but rather connecting via mass mode and drag and drop the files from your phone to your desktop
2.hopefully the applications you have installed you have saved on your pc as .sis files? i ask because i usually suggest that you format your memory card after all your data is from from it....its not a must but suggestable
3.PLEASE remember to save your contacts to sim!!!! or better yet, copy them to memory card, use pc suite mode and you'll find a folder on the memory card named "other" the contacts you just copied will be there...drag that folder to your desktop
try this method(drag and drop to desktop) and then reinstall your software...replace your files and see if the browser works again
    let me know what happens
