Weird Oracle behaviour (insert)

hi there,
I experience this weird behaviour whith an oracle jdbc-conection:
( Class.forName ("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
conn = DriverManager.getConnection
("jdbc:oracle:thin:@machine:port:database","bla", "bla");)
If I insert a few rows in a table, close the statement and do an commit() (autocommit is false) and close the connection, the data is NOT in the database.
and now comes the funny part:
IF I FORCE AN EXCEPTION AFTER INSERT AND BEFORE COMMIT,
THE DATA IS IN THE DATABASE !!!
code:
if (conn.isReadOnly()) {
     conn.setReadOnly( false );
conn.setAutoCommit(false);
p1 = inhalt.indexOf("\n");
PreparedStatement pstmt = conn.prepareStatement(sql);
while (p1 >= 0) {
zeile = inhalt.substring(0,p1);
inhalt = inhalt.substring(p1+1);
pstmt.setString(1,datei);
pstmt.setString(2,zeile);
i1 = pstmt.executeUpdate();
logIt("vms.machmal:doLoad:ergebnissql #"+i1+"#");
p1 = inhalt.indexOf("\n");
} // end while
pstmt.close();
// if I force e.g. a nullpointer-exception here, the data is in the database...
conn.commit ();
erg = 0;
fehlertext = "Datei "+datei+" geladen";
catch(Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
     erg = -1;
     fehlertext = "Fehler beim Laden der Datei "+datei+": "+e.getMessage();
finally {
lServletDlgView.setRc(""+erg);
lServletDlgView.setHinweis(fehlertext);
return erg;
Is this a bug?
please,please, help me!
thanks a lot in advance,
frank

So perhaps there's anybody out there who knows the
oracle driver....?This is my reasoning:
- I have used the oracle driver successfully.
- And probably a lot of other people have used it successfully as well.
- Throwing an exception does not impact the driver.
When I have a situation that seems impossible I usually find it is because I have made an assumption that is wrong. Which is why I say "examine your assumptions."
For example I once spent quite a bit of time, at least several hours, trying to figure out why the data that I was inserting into a database wasn't getting into the database. I had many logs. And I tried various scenarios to reduce the code and running the SQL directly in the gui for the database. The results that I was seeing was simply not possible.
I finally realized that the code was running against a different database than the one I was looking at.

  • [solved] laptop - weird keyboard behaviour

    Hello,
    since upgrading to kernel 3.2.1.1 (same with 3.2.1.2) I have a weird keyboard behaviour.
    I have to press ESC to leave this weird mode.
    This problem is similiar to
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=86026
    Do some people have the same problem?
    My laptop is Dell Vostro 1310.
    // ok... this never was a kernel software issue

    same for me, for about one week, on 2 different systems. I'm using KDE4 but some other people reported this problem on Gnome too. It generally stops when I strike the key again a few times.
    It happened when I showed someone how cool Linux was, and then it opened 60 occurences of the same images I wanted to cut and paste...

  • BCM4322 wireless weird burst behaviour.

    I have a Dell studio xps 1340, with the BCM4322 wireless card. Everything work fine with the broadcom-wl driver, however, I seem to get this weird burst behaviour. By this I mean, my network connection seems to be available for only 1-2 seconds before it cuts off and then reactivates another 1-2 seconds later.
    I'm running KDE 4.5 using the networkmanager plasmoid. Here is a screenshot of said behaviour:
    Can anyone explain to me why this is happening and if I can fix it in any way?

    I've switched to wicd and everything seems to be fine now... Sometimes I get a random disconnect but it's pretty rare.

  • Delete all data of a table in Oracle before insert operation in BizTalk.

    Hi,
    I need to delete all the data of a table from Oracle before insert data into it from BizTalk. I can't create stored procedure on the oracle table or how to create a xml of the delete schema of the oracle table in the BizTalk with filter node has a blank
    value because i need to delete all the data of the table so that i will send this xml as delete operation.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Gyan

    You need to create two schemas: One for deleting all rows and one for inserting.
    Then combine these Schemas into one and use the "CompositeOperation" SOAP Action Header.
    Something like the below (a SQL Example, so the Schemas needs to be replaced by WCF-Oracle syntax)
    <Request xmlns="http://CompositeTest.CompositeSchema">
    <Delete xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TableOp/dbo/Employee">
    <Rows>
    <Employee xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/Types/Tables/dbo">
    </Employee>
    </Rows>
    </Delete>
    <Insert xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/TableOp/dbo/Employee">
    <Rows>
    <Employee xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Sql/2008/05/Types/Tables/dbo">
    <Name>John</Name>
    <Designation>Manager</Designation>
    <Salary>100000</Salary>

  • READ ME Before you decide to use IKM Oracle Multi-Insert in ODI 12c

    Ok, I've decided to write this to help out others who may be heading down this twisted mess and hope they can benefit from my pain.
    If using a sequence, do not use this IKM.
    The primary reason is Oracle's INSERT ALL statement is NOT atomic.  This means it WILL eventually give "ORA-02291: integrity constraint (XXX) violated - parent key not found" when it attempts to insert rows into the child table first.  To make it work, the constraint(s) in question must be disabled or set to deferred.  However, if either is done, there is no need to use the INSERT ALL because the multiple inserts can now be done in any order without error as long as everything is kosher at the time the constraint is enabled or set to immediate.  So the very fix for the IKM makes its use unnecessary.
    The second reason is it burns sequence numbers.  The IKM has a tendency of grabbing the filter (no matter how buried) right before it and putting it in the WHEN statement of the INSERT ALL.  This will burn sequence numbers because the rows are not filtered prior to being feed into the insert.  Not an issue for small rowsets, but for large rowsets or frequently run mappings the burn can be quite substantial.  This can be fixed by manipulating hints and/or the physical tab, but may result in poorer performance than just using a different IKM that doesn't burn sequence numbers.
    If you are doing anything else besides the multi-insert in the same mapping, beware!  This IKM does not allow ODI to respect the Target Load Order specified on the mapping.  I've found that it usually puts the multi-insert last in sequence.  It can be fixed by working on the physical tab, and making multiple targets but it also crashed several times when I was using it.  Additionally it resisted doing what seemed like simple tasks (like dragging multiple items at a time or trying to drag items off to the right of the execution units).  As I've said elsewhere, I think this is a bug and it will probably be fixed in the future.
    So my advice is avoid using this IKM at all costs.  Just disable or defer your constraints and use the other IKMs.
    BTW, if you want to defer the constraints, I've found you can set the On Connect command of the Physical topology to:
    ALTER SESSION SET CONSTRAINTS = DEFERRED
    and then select all the transactions in the list.  Trying it in the Begin Mapping Command of the mapping does not appear to work.
    Please let me know if I got anything wrong,
    Scott

    This is not the first instance of KM load strategy that has had the nasty side effect of burning sequence numbers - see the following:
    ODI Oracle Merge Incremental Update burns sequence values - jason's hyperion blog
    However, at least this one does now seem to have been modified to try and address this issue.

  • Oracle 10g Insert query performs inconsistent as a query vs procedure and p

    Database Version: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bi
    No error messages....
    I am facing a very weird issue that I have a insert statement in a procedure... pretty much
    inert
    into oracle_Table
    SELECT cr.a AS a,
    cr.b AS b,
    cr.c AS c,
    max(d.column_name) as d
    FROM "table 1"@Pmo.World Cr,
    [email protected] d
    WHERE d."a" = cr."column name"
    GROUP BY cr.a,
    cr.b,
    cr.c
    @Pmo.World is a database link to a MSSQL...
    The problem I am having right now is, every time I run this insert as a query. Everything works as what it should be... However, when I put this insert into a procedure, it inserts nothing...
    Simple test Proceudre:
    declare
    -- Local variables here
    i integer;
    begin
    inert
    into oracle_Table
    SELECT cr.a AS a,
    cr.b AS b,
    cr.c AS c,
    max(d.column_name) as d
    FROM "table 1"@Pmo.World Cr,
    [email protected] d
    WHERE d."a" = cr."column name"
    GROUP BY cr.a,
    cr.b,
    cr.c
    end;
    Thinking about character conversion issue I changed the procedure to
    inert
    into oracle_Table
    SELECT to_char(cr.a) AS a,
    to_char(cr.b) AS b,
    to_char(cr.c) AS c,
    max(d.column_name) as d
    FROM "table 1"@Pmo.World Cr,
    [email protected] d
    WHERE d."a" = cr."column name"
    GROUP BY cr.a,
    cr.b,
    cr.c
    Then this Inser works in the procedure... however when I revert it back with the original version that doesnt have to_char... it is working still... then I kept it running for few days... since it runs once per day, it was working for the first 2 days and then stopped working the third day... I verified the source table and every time this procedure runs, source tables were not empty...
    It is so confusing because if I manually run the insert as a query, it worked every time I ran it... however if I put that into a procedure, it works from time to time..
    Any help is highly apprecaited

    Can you recreate the problem with simpler data on your local machine? If so provide create table and insert statements for test data.

  • Oracle Batch Inserts--

    hello folks...
    before procceding furthur I would like to thank the people who have helped me till date on this forumn..without whose help I would not have held on to my job.Thanks
    I am wking on Oracle batch statements inorder to improove the efiicienecy of Inserts that run into millions of records.I have been able to improove the efficiency a lot by doing so (around 20-25%)
    I have a feeling that I could improove the efficiency furthur by playing around with the number of Inserts done per batch.Presently I batch them arbitarily whenever certain criretia is met ( sometimes it is more than a 1000 inserts sometimes it is less than 10).
    I have read a lot of articles on batching and searched this forumn too ...but I am not too certain where I should draw the line .on whether to use a batch or a normal insertion.
    Since the data I am wking on(Biological data ) is too complicated to do create a test data and since the whole process takes in excess of 16 hrs it is difficult for me to do many arbitary testing (try different combinations of batch sizes) .
    What I am looking for is "in a genearl in case" what MIGHT be a good batch size....
    I know this is a bit too vague and there may no specific number ...I would appreciate your thoughts and views on it
    Thanks for your time

    How many ms/insert do you get in your productionprogram?
    I have not tested them individually by say a batch but
    that is a good idea.to calculate the rate .Ballpark? "Program run with 1,000,000 inserts takes about half an hour"?
    Inspired by the O'Reilly book chapter you showed, I tried PreparedStatement (program below). PreparedStatement seems way faster than a plain Statement, and scales better:
    batch size 1 best time 25 = 120 insert/s
    batch size 10 best time 21 = 1428 insert/s
    batch size 50 best time 31 = 4838 insert/s
    batch size 100 best time 37 = 8108 insert/s
    batch size 500 best time 341 = 4398 insert/s
    batch size 1000 best time 401 = 7481 insert/s
    batch size 2000 best time 203 = 29556 insert/s
    batch size 3000 best time 339 = 26548 insert/s
    batch size 4000 best time 409 = 29339 insert/s
    batch size 5000 best time 498 = 30120 insert/s
    batch size 6000 best time 725 = 24827 insert/sMaxes out with a batch size of around 2000 at 30,000 inserts a second -- that's way more than I'd have thought possible! I've never done batching, only round-trip queries, so this is all new to me.
    ...Can anyone see a bug in the code below? I'm getting some weird results with batched PS's on Oracle: if a PS doesn't have any "?" parameters, just a constant insert statement, seems like addBatch() doesn't execute all the statements?? Replace the "?" with "1" and remove the setInt() call. I'm not the first to shout Java Is Broken, but here I have half a mind to say there's a bug in the Oracle driver here...

  • Irregularity with anchor behaviour - inserting anchors in anchored frames

    I am experiencing irregular behaviours with anchors and I'm not sure if it's a glitch or something I am overlooking. Sometimes it works, sometimes it dosen't, and I can't tell what is causing the difference.
    What I want is an anchored text fram to a main body text - which is an imag caption - and from this text frame I create a new anchored image frame, in which I put the image I am referring to in the caption. Sometimes this process works smoothly, while other times, when I go to insert the anchor in the anchored text frame it re-routes me back to the main body text from where I came. I have tried different insertion points within the anchored text frame, but nothing seems to solve the problem in this scenario....
    any ideas?
    thanks!

    Kat,
    I hope I understand your problem correctly.
    The paragraph containing the figure title is positioned in the side head with alignment set to Top Edge. Then that paragraph is followed by another paragraph, which of course is in the main text column, empty, and aligned at the top with the side head.
    With the insertion point in the second paragraph, import the image file. This puts the image below the line. Select the image, not the anchored frame, and scale it if necessary. If not created at the correct size, you probably want to scale it down to fit the width of the text column. Now press the key sequence Esc, m, p (note m and p are lowercase). The anchored frame shrinks to fit tightly around the image and changes it position to At Insertion Point. If you turn on Text Symbols, you will see the end-of-paragraph symbol at the lower right edge of the image, and the top of the anchored frame will align with the TOP of the side head text.
    You also have to be sure the line spacing of the paragraph holding the image is NOT fixed or Frame will move the image up.
    Hope this is what you need,
    Van

  • Idoc to XI to JDBC (oracle) - duplicated inserts

    All,
    I have a scenario, in which an IDoc is passed to XI and then the fields are mapped and passed to a JDBC receiver (Oracle).  The data is all inserted corectly on the first call, but then the scenario goes into a restart status and insert the data 3 more times, every 5 finutes (this coincides with the retry settings on the communication channel).  The problem is I don't understand why the scenario errors out.
    In the communication channel monitoring, everything is a success until I see this error:
    Success - MP: processing local module localejbs/com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.ModuleXMB2DB
    Error - MP: exception caught with cause com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Object not found in lookup of com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.ModuleXMB2DB.
    Error - Exception caught by adapter framework: Object not found in lookup of com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.ModuleXMB2DB.
    Error - Delivery of the message to the application using connection JDBC_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Object not found in lookup of com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.ModuleXMB2DB.: com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NameNotFoundException: Object not found in lookup of com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.ModuleXMB2DB..
    The only other thing I notice is in SXMB_MONI, where things look successful, but there are 4 lines for Acknowledgement Not Possible (1 line is the original run, the other 3 are the retries).
    Everywhere but the above erorrs makes it look like everything is successfully handled.  The IDoc is mapped successfully, and the Oracle table is inserted to successfully (everytime the scenario retries).
    Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem or what I can look at to fix this?   I have reviewed numerous blogs, SAP notes, SAP help, etc. Points will gladly be rewarded.
    jake

    Ok, I have tried some more things and no luck so far.
    My JDBC receiver has these settings and I also tried the others mentioned by Matias.  I have Message Protocol of XML SQL Format.  I have tried the XML Schema Interpreter with Key Tags Mandatory as on and off.  For Exactly Once Handling I have tried with Persistence = Local and Conflict Resolution as both Redo and Error.  Everything else left as the defaults.
    I tried moving the ModuleXMB2DB to first in the list instead of second, and then nothing gets to Oracle.  I have used this before in a test scenario as the second piece and that scenario was fine (as far as I know).  I also have IDX_NOALE turned on, and the scenario still tried itself the 3 times, but didn't leave any message about Acknowledgements.
    When I tried with the logSQLstatement = True, I didn't find any extra verbage in the communication channel monitoring. Besides the already mentioned ModuleXM2DB error, I also see this
    Error Category = XI_J2EE_ADAPTER_ENGINE
    Error Code = GENERAL_ERROR
    but no other info about an error.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • Oracle 10g - Insert value into a self-created table in stored proc

    Its not designed that way, is not a good practice and is strictly not recommended. You can read <a href ="https://forums.oracle.com/forums/profile.jspa?userID=287238">Billy Verreynne's</a> take on this :

    To my suprise it's saying the table or view does not exist. According to my logic, the table "revs" created by executing pc_create_table, however it's NOT explicitly declared in other parts of this script, is this where the problem is?The Problem is, SQLs fired using Execute Immediate are evaluated, compiled, parsed and executed at run time. So when you compile procedure pc_create_table, table revs is still not created. Hence you get error when you try inserting rows in it.
    Any advises are appreciated.Get the table created by your DBA, and use insert statement without execute immediate in your procedure.

    Now, I am inserting a new record into an Oracle database table. I am told that I cannot do what I am used to doing with the MySQL database.
    How do I revise the createThread method while I have no idea about what the next sequence number shall be?

    I am still very confused; in particular, the Java part. Let me try again.

  • Oracle Database Inserts Via Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS)

    This question involves a SQL Server database and an Oracle database. The databases reside on different servers. One of our developers periodically uses Microsoft DTS (Data Transformation Services) to read data from a SQL Server database and insert it into an Oracle database. Normally the job runs once a day and reportedly inserts about 20,000 rows. The job usually runs fine. About a month ago execution of the daily job was suspended. Two days ago the developer ran a job to select and insert nine days of information. He estimated that 80,000 rows would be inserted. The job cancelled after twenty-three minutes when it filled up the 512 MB UNDO tablespace. (FYI, we use automatic UNDO management.) At the point of failure the number of active sessions spiked sharply in the Oracle database because of system I/O waits (log file parallel write, db file parallel write, and control file parallel write). The number of active sessions also spiked sharply in three other Oracle databases whose files reside on the same array of disk drives. Most of those sessions were waiting on commits (log file sync). The spikes lasted for one minute or less. Grid Control’s performance monitor shows that sqlservr.exe is the module being executed when the UNDO tablespace fills up. We ran the job a second time and closely monitored it, watching the amount of UNDO space grow until it used all 512 MB available. The symptoms described above for the first cancellation were repeated in the second cancellation.
    We reran the job by processing a single day’s worth of information and that ran fine. Then we ran it for two days of information, then for six days of information. Everything ran fine. During those tests no more than 70 MB of space of UNDO were used.
    Our developer reported that last week he ran the job for nine days of information, the same amount as the job that cancelled twice today. He estimates that it ran for about 80 minutes and went to a normal end-of-job.
    Can anyone here offer an explanation of why we seem to be getting these varied demands for space in the UNDO tablespace? Do you know if Microsoft DTS issues a commit after each insert or only a single commit at the end-of-job?
    Thank you,
    Bill

    Hi Arthur,
    Yes both instances are same.

  • Oracle table insertion is very slow - Very Imp

    I have a oracle 9i db installed on Windows 2000 Adv. Server. Server is single processor ,2GB RAM.
    and I have a table is have one long raw field & 4 other fields. It contails 10k records. and table is indexed.
    I have an application is VB using ADOs I connected to Oracle db. I am saving binary file to long raw field. For me retreival is very fast and when i am inserting the record it is very slow. It is taking 4min for one record.
    Please help me to solve this issue

    Is it possible for your capture the execution plan, as well as session wait events?
    If you have buffer busy waits, and not using ASSM (Automatic Segemtn Storage Management), playing with free list also helps.

  • Strange Oracle Behaviour - only month end or high load periods

    Hi SAP Gurus
    In one of our systems I am expreriencing a strange behaviour from Oracle, in that it seems to be in reconnect, but yet it is not, it resets and carries on but do produce Dump and SM21 log messages, the dump is not really helpfull as it is the same dump but with different program everytime.
    I have looked in oracle alert log and found no event tying back to the SM21 log message or dump.
    The following is what I found in the developer trace of one of these insident, but there are many, about 125 - 200 for the day during high load:

  • Weird JFrame behaviour in 1.4.1

    I have an application that runs fine under 1.4.0. It has a main JFrame where most of the action happens, but from time to time, it wants to display another JFrame, which is hassle-free under 1.4.0.
    Under 1.4.1, the main JFrame is fine, but the second JFrame only semi-displays, and I've tried to figure it out, but nothing I'm trying is helping. You can see a small part of the top left-hand corner of the frame, and you can see its edges, and you can click on the menu bar, which will popup the menu items, which are functional. The rest of the frame looks like whatever is behind it: if you drag it around, the copied background moves around too, but if you drag it partially offscreen, then when you drag it back, it contains sort of skidmarks or smears (stuff that was at the visible edge, smears).
    I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this weird behaviour, and would appreciate any insights or clues as to how to (continue to) go about fixing it.
    Thanks

    Then maybe you have some code that is catching an exception and ignoring it.
    Do you have any empty catch clauses?
