Welcome file and Jsp compiled

Hi,
I have very problems with compiled JSP. I work with tomcat 4.0.1.
1) When I compile JSP with jspc and -webapp option and -webinc,
he creates a file xml as :
     <servlet>
<servlet-name>.hdi_0005faideResolveur</servlet-name>
<servlet-class>.hdi_0005faideResolveur</servlet-class>
     </servlet>
     <servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>.hdi_0005faideResolveur</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>/jsp/Pastel/doc/hdi_aideResolveur.jsp</url-pattern>
     </servlet-mapping>
It don't work. I need to modify "-class>." in "-class>".
Is it normal ?????????
2) In web.xml, I have define a welcome-file as :
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>/jsp/Pastel/hdi_index.jsp</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
When I work in un-compile Jsp, It's work well.
But, with compile-jsp, it don't' work. I have tried :
<welcome-file-list>
<welcome-file>servlet/.hdi_0005findex</welcome-file>
</welcome-file-list>
I don't work to.
Have you a solution ?????????
Thanks,
Elisabeth
France

I have dowloaded the jakarta-tomcat-4.0.2-b2 (21 Jan).
The comportement is the same as 4.0.1 !!!!!!

  • Import statement in .java files and .jsp files

    Guys I have few mysteries about this import statement.
    Please correct me if I am wrong.
    1)Suppose if I have a folder c:\SourceFolder it has one.java and two.java files.If I compile one.java then one.class files is created in c:\ClassFolder .Now two.java uses one of the method of one.java,and without using import statement I am able to compile two.java, and two.class file is created in c:\ClassFolder.I assume that the path of one.class was taken from the CLASSPATH environment variable,hence I there was no need for import statement .........am i right ?
    BUT... in My.jsp,which is in C:\JspFolder, if I want to use one.class,then I have to specifically import the class I want to use.That is i have to say
    <%@page import="one"%>
    and since the classpath is C:\ClassFolder ,it finds one.class in the C:\ClassFolder.(Note that My.class is created in a folder different from c:\ClassFolder )
    But I am wondering why was there no need for me to import one.class in two.java.
    (Note I am using JDeveloper and Apache server)
    Please help.
    In this case the pSo I am wondering in JSP why it doesn't take the class I am looking for from the classpath .
    Help.

    You have to understand Java scoping rules. In the 1st scenario with the two Java files I am guessing neither one of them begins with a package statement. This means that they belong to the default package. When you compile the compiler uses the classpath to resolve method calls looking in the default package since there was no import statement specified in two.java. JSP is a little different. Now I just read this here in these forums a couple of days ago. Since the classfiles generated from the JSP files are not in the CLASSPATH they are loaded by a different classloader. This is why you have to import all references to all classes in the default package.

    It has to do with packages. Most java classes are in a package, the name of which must conform to its place on the filesystem relative to the classpath. By that I mean that if you have com.mystuff.One.java, it must be in a folder com/mystuff where com is located somewhere in the classpath.
    What you've done is a little different. I'm assuming a couple of things:
    1. you have no package declaration at the top of one.java or two.java
    2. you have the current directory "." in your classpath.
    Java has the concept of the "default package", which covers classes without a declared package, and in your case is the current directory.
    So when you're in c:\sourcefolder and run the compiler, then "."="c:\sourcefolder", and that directory is part of the default package. No import statements are necessary for classes that are in the same package. This is why two.java can call methods in one.java without an import statement.
    When you run your jsp, the "current directory" part of your classpath is not c:\sourcefolder, but some other value (probably the directory you start your jsp engine from) You will have to import all non-java-library classes because the jsp itself becomes a java class, with a package that is determined by the jsp engine.

  • Cluster and JSP compile

  • URGENT: sp6 and JSP compiling/classpath problem?

    Hi,
              We installed sp6 on our production site a little over a week and started
              seeing this problem on our logs with regards to any JSP with an include tag,
              such as:
              <%@ include file="/inc/insideHeadTag.jsp" %>
              INTERMITTENTLY, we will get the following error in the page on the client
              side at runtime:
              < ! -- cannot include file '/inc/insideHeadTag.jsp', resource not
              found -- >
              I grepped this newsgroup and noticed a previous unanswered post of the same
              nature, "Static compiles do not seem to include JSP's". Except in our case,
              this problem also manifest for dynamic JSP compiles, happens sporatically,
              and only started with sp6.

              Just to clarify - I'm not from BEA, I'm from EA - short a letter.
              As far as I know, there is no synchronization between WL instances in a cluster regarding the
              the compiling of JSPs. So when you start up two WL instances that share the same workingDir,
              and each WL instances gets a hit on your shiny new index.jsp, they both need to compile it. So the first
              one compiles it and writes index.class, the second does the same, overwriting the first _index.class,
              possibly at the same time that the first instance is trying to load _index.class into memory. And you
              get a mysterious 'class not found' error. Not likely, but possible.

  • Weblogic 9 and JSP compiler errors

    Hello everyone,
              I am having problems with my Jsps in my EAR file deployed on WL 9.0.
              I have a Jsp called upms.jsp that contains the following code snippets:
              After my import statements, I have some code that creates a resource bundle that accesses a properties file:
               <%!
                   ResourceBundle bundle = null;
                   public void jspInit() {
                   bundle = ResourceBundle.getBundle("conf.properties");
              %>
              I get an error from the above code:
              upms.jsp:3:11: 'try' statement has neither 'catch' nor 'finally' clause
                        import="java.util.ResourceBundle"
              ^----------------------^
              I am totally clueless as to what that error means.
              Next I declare a bean I use in the jsp:
                   <jsp:useBean
                        id="userPrefsManagerBean"
              class="controllers.beans.UserPreferencesManagerBean"
                   scope="session">
                   </jsp:useBean>
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              I get these errors from the above portion:
              upms.jsp:27:3: The qualifier of this name is a package, which cannot contain fields.
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              upms.jsp:27:3: The qualifier of this name is a package, which cannot contain fields.

              upms.jsp:27:3: Expression expected (found '.' instead)
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />

              upms.jsp:27:3: Syntax error: expected ) (found 'class' instead)
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              upms.jsp:27:3: Syntax error: expected <identifier> (found ')' instead)
                   <jsp:setProperty name="userPrefsManagerBean" property="*" />
              ^-------------^
              Has anyone encountered these before?
              This jsp worked perfectly well when I deployed my EAR file on JBoss...no such luck using Weblogic.
              Is there something I am missing here? I appreciate any help.
              Cheers, :-)
              M.

    Mildred,
              Two suggestions:
              1) use option weblogic.jspc's "-keepgenerated", you can keep the generated
              servlet's source code.
              Please paste it here.
              2) Can you create a simple reproducer(e.g. a war), and put it here, so that
              we can debug it and give more clues.
              To reproduce your issue, I write a simple a simple
              UserPreferencesManagerBean classs below :
              package controllers.beans;
              public class UserPreferencesManagerBean {
              private int p1;
              public void setP1(int p)
              p1 = p;
              public int getP1()
              return p1;
              But it works(oh, I run it under 910MP1).
              We cannot tell too much without your further information
              Thanks
              Leon

    When the welcome-file mechanism in the web.xml configuration is used, the server returns a 302 redirect to the browser. Is there a way to have the request forwarded on the server instead? There are some browsers, like the Go.America browser, which don't appear to handle the 302 return code.
              Thanks...

    Hi.
              See the answer to the next thread (Hide the default page (index.jsp) from the url) for insight. We don't claim to support the Go.America browser(we support netscape and IE), but what you ask is not unreasonable for other reasons. If this is an important issue for you you might want to open a
              case with support.

  • Batch file and JSP

    how can i call a batch file from JSP ??? possible ?

    'tis possible, but not recommended.
    You can use java.lang.Runtime.exec() method
    Read all about it here: http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
    Note that this will run a batch file on the server - not on the client machine.

    No jsp page, no class files..
    When I browse into the directoria via sysadmin/support/portal runtime via WEB-INF, I do see all the necessary files. But how do I get the whole bunch of classes, jsp etc into NWDS? Download all single elements and put them manually into a NWDS project? There must be a better way
    Any help will be gracefully awarded

    I tried it, but when I follow your instruction, NWDS gives me an error in the import wizard "<dir> does not have a .project file".
    If I look in the .par file, there is no .project file at all.
    I looked in the download of the PCD, there is no .project file either, but at least the java classes and the jsp.
    Is it removed intentionally? Probably because it is an SAP business package?

  • Java File and JSP Page

    I am to create a link verification program -- a simple java file with the database connection & some business logic and a JSP page that instantiates the my java file. It won't work. • Files and folders compilation

    Greetings,
    My work in Java was, until those days, included in only one source file per project, mostly because I was making only applets. Of course, if I would include more classes in a .java file, I would get multiple .class files.
    Thought, I've noticed that opening a .jar file has its sources spanned in multiple folders and I can remeber the times where this structure was obvious, in the times of MS JVM, when on Java folder, I had some arborescent structure: a "com" folder, inside it a "sun" and a "microsoft" folder, inside the "microsoft" folder a "windows" folder and so on, until finally the classes were structured.
    In the first example (the jar, as in HTMLconvert file downloadable from Sun, that inserts the right tags for an applet), I had .java files, which implies perhaps, that it calls a JIT. In the second example, the one with the folders, there were .class files.
    My questions are:
    1. How do one compile recursively an arborescent structure of folders and files, so that the structue will be included in one jar, and therefore I would leave my mark (this arborescense) on those classes? (as in com.microsoft.windows). Is this possible in applets?
    1'. Years ago, when I've used MS J++, applets got packaged in CABs. What is the right, the Java-way, to package an applet these days?
    1''. Are there any #include directives, as in C, to let JIT or JRE know where to start the execution, and which are the secondary files?
    2. How can one create a jar that calls a JIT when it is needed? (and is there a JIT anyway?)
    I'm using only a text editor and Java SE SDK.
    You can send me links as long as you think I'll understand.
    Thanks in advance, L.S.

    Unless I'm very much mistaken, "JIT" doesn't refer to compiling java source during execution. It refers to compiling java bytecodes to a native format.
    Anyway, you can compile multiple java source files using a make tool. But it may not be necessary. Check out the --sourcepath argument to javac.  While you're at it look at -d.
    Compilation doesn't necessary relate to having multiple class files in a jar. Compiling and archiving are separate steps.
    You can use jar (that is, the command "jar") to package multiple class files in a tree structure into a single jar file. It's pretty trivial. You just pass it the top directory name. Read the docs.

  • Tomcat and Structs: welcome-file

    Dear all,
    With tomcat 5.0, 5.5, I defined the welcome file in web.xml as
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>/login.show.do</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    It did work.
    But if I put
    <welcome-file-list>
    <welcome-file>/login.show.do</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    It did not work.
    Are there any explanation/solution/workround?

    Sorry. Let me correct my question as follows:

  • Invalid element 'welcome-file-list' in content of 'web-app',

    HI, folks.
    I recently used struts to develop a simple web applicaiton, and whenever I tried to use tag libs
    such as /WEB-INF/struts-html.tld
    /WEB-INF/struts-html.tld and
    tried to compile it, it gives out compile error such as:
    Error(52,21): Invalid element 'welcome-file-list' in content of 'web-app', expected elements '[taglib, resource-env-ref, resource-ref, security-constraint, login-config, security-role, env-entry, ejb-ref, ejb-local-ref]'.
    if I remove the above tag libs, the jsp file compiles
    without any problem.
    Are you guys familiar with these problems?
    please let me know if I'm doing anything foolish.
    Thanks!

    Unless some other elements tag are not close correctly this error does not make sense. Can you cut and paste your web.xml?
    It should look something like:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'windows-1252'?>
    <!DOCTYPE web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Web Application 2.3//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd">

    <welcome-file-list>
      <welcome-file>/untitled1.jsp</welcome-file>
    </welcome-file-list>
    <taglib>
      <taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld</taglib-uri>
      <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld</taglib-location>
    </taglib>
    </web-app>Charles.
