What 2.0 USB card to buy?

I need a recommendation for a 2.0 USB Internal Card for my PowerMac G4 Dual 800, Tiger. To work with a Video iPod.
When you get down to the details of some manuals of some of these cards they don't support Mac/Tiger. or iPod's
I would like a card with more than 2 ports.
Thank You, Tom

Buy one elsewhere and then take it in and tell the Applites how well it works with your G4 and how they lost a sale because of their comments. That'll teach them younguns!
Yeah, I noticed the guy had me stand right next to the MacBooks while I was waiting for him to get my purchases. Funnily enough, this was after I told him I was running on a 1GHz G4 iBook...
It will work fine, just slowly. As much as I hate to say this, in fact my fingers are cramping to prevent it, go to a local Best Buy with the Apple Store in a Store and ask the person manning it (if you can find them) this same question. They are in a great position to walk you over to the available selections. Just don't talk to the morons in the blue shirts.

  • What sort of fxs card to buy for the cisco router 2801

    Hi
I have just bought a cisco router 2801 which l want to setup for my VIOP lab. Can pls advice me on what sort of fxs card l should buy for the cisco router 2801 to connect the ip phones or the analog phones.

    Hi
It depends what you want to do:
    IP Phones - need nothing
FXS - needed only if you want to connect analogue handsets or faxes
FXO - needed if you want to connect the system to a POTS line
There are further interfaces (BRI, PRI etc) if you have different PSTN connectivity.
What connectivity do you plan to have in your lab?

oh.. and is the gigabit ethernet a good g4? I just got this mac and I love it so far.

Other 2x AGP compatible graphic card options (most of the following will work in all AGP G4's, some will not work in the Sawtooth):
_Mac/Converted PC versions:_ (Mac versions historically available/PC versions successfully converted)
    Radeon 7500
    Radeon 8500
    Radeon 9000 Pro
    Radeon 9800 Pro
    GeForce 2MX
    Geforce3
_Converted Cards (flashed PC)_ (many have OS restrictions, as well as Uni-N version requirements)
    Radeon 9500 (Pro)
    Radeon 9700 (Pro)
    Geforce4 Ti 4200
    Geforce4 Ti 4600
    Geforce FX5200
    Geforce 6200
The ASUS nVidia GeForce 2 MX400 is said to work in a GE, DA, QS as is (no flashing) but VGA only.
Some card model versions are 4x only, which won't work in a GE. A 2x/4x, or 2x/4x/8x compatible card will.

  • What HD and Controller Card to Buy for Upgrade?

I've been on OWC looking at the various hard drives and controller cards. My head is swimming. I have a G4 Sawtooth running on OS 9.2. I want to upgrade my hard drive but want to move up to Panther shortly thereafter. Some of the Hitachi products say you need OSX, that I'm afraid if I installed first, would significantly slow down my operating system. Also, I have some software that I would have to use OS 9, as they don't run on OSX, including Photoshop and my Agfa Scanner. Any suggestions on what I should look for?
By the way, their demo on installation is awesome!

Flyingcat, I was at this same point about a year ago, and like you I decided to invest in this G4 and maybe get another 2-3 years before making another decision on a new Mac. Here is what I did in the order I did it.
    1. A newer faster HD (with available rebates this was by far the most economical).
    2. A RAM increase to 1.5 GB, but keep in mind OS X will see a full 2 gigs.
    3. An OS upgrade to Panther, but also keeping a bootable version of OS 9.
    4. I upgraded the processor (Sonnet Encore/ST G4 1GHz).
    5. A video card upgrade to Radeon 9000 (this was used and purchased from a close friend).
    6. A SATA HD and controller card.
    Joe
ps. Is the scanner SCSI and which Photoshop are you using.

  • Hi everyone, I have an old g4 desktop it runs on 0S 10.3. I want to get connected to my wireless router but I am getting a bit confused on what I need to buy to do this. I have looked on ebay at pci cards, usb cards

    Hi everyone,
I have an old g4 desktop which runs on osx 10.3. I want to get it connected to my wireless router but I don't know what I need to buy to do this. I have tried a usb card which did not work. Do I need a pci card or an airport extreme card?
    Many thanks,
    Acphot

To build on what Tesserax says, not all USB sticks will work on Panther, but here is one that does:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/MXP3802NU2C/
I have one of these and it works with both a PowerMac G4 running Leopard and a 1998 PowerBook G3 running Panther.
And here's a little more free advice.
Some of the older G4 desktops like my PowerMac 3,6 only take the original AirPort card, which is different from the newer machines that take the newer AirPort Extreme card. Both are available if you hunt for them, but modern WPA-2 encryption is not supported on the original AirPort card, so it will not be able to join your network if it has this encryption. The newer AirPort Extreme airport card does support WPA-2 encryption, as does the NewerTech USB AirPort stick. If your G4 takes the older card, you cannot plug in the newer AirPort Extreme card. I have not looked lately, but I believe the sockets themselves are different. In any event, the NewerTech USB stick is cheaper than an AirPort card.
If you don't already have Mactracker, you can download it for free here:
    http://mactracker.ca/
You can look up your Mac on it and see which AirPort card it has. You can also check out what upgrades are available.
A couple of good things to do is to max out the RAM and upgrade the OS. OWC will have the RAM and they are very knowledgable about Macs and can advise you on any hardware upgrades they offer. You would probably have to look at EBay to find a retail disc for upgrading to Tiger or Leopard, and preferably the latest version of the OS that is supported. Panther has some limitations, and I beleve that Google no longer supports Panther so you might need to find a different browser if you stay with Panther.
    Good luck!

  • What type of wireless card should I buy?

Does anyone have suggestions on what type of wlan card I should buy for my MSI K8T Neo FSR Board? I currently have a D-Link DWL-G520, and it crashes the system, so I need something new. Thanks!

I always seem to have problems with internal PCI cards from D-Link Netgear Linksys (the list goes on), but I have never ran into a problem with external cards. I currently use a linksys and my friend uses a D-Link. One benefit of going external is, obviously you can move it from computer to computer without a problem, also if you are getting a bad signal you can move it to a different spot. I have always felt that having a card in the back of your computer with all the electrical interference caused by the computer is something I don't want to deal with.
    Good Luck

    It depends...
USB adapters can sometimes freeze up. I've had this problem with a Belkin 802.11b, and Motorola 802.11g adapters. I still think they are great because you can move the adapter around, and far from the PC, but PCI cards would be the most stable.
I think the ideal situation is a a/b/g PCMCIA card with a desktop pci adapter, so you can remove it for use with a laptop too. Also get a decent external antenna, and you'll want for nothing.
At least until 802.11n comes along....

  • What is the recommended length of the cable in between the GPIB instrument and GPIB-USB card.

    hi,
we are planning to use GPIB-USB Controller in our application by replacing the existing GPIB-PCI controller. Our GPIB instrument doesn't have the standard IEEE GPIB Connector. So, we will have to connect one more cable in between GPIB-USB controller and the GPIB Instrument. I just want to know what is the recommended lenth of the cable that can be connected in between the GPIB instrument and the GPIB-USB card. Could anybody please help me?
    Thanks,
    Rajaram

Page 730 in the 2001 catalog gives detailed cabling requirements for the GPIB bus. It's usually best to keep the length 2meters or less.

  • HT201359 I redeemed a 25 dlls gift card to buy a single song that cost 1.29. Now I want to buy another one and it tells me that I already redeemed that code. What am I doing wrong?

I redeemed a 25 dlls gift card to buy a single song that cost 1.29. Now I want to buy another one and it tells me that I already redeemed that code. What am I doing wrong?

    Please try the following steps,
    1) Visit the My Apple ID website at:
    http://appleid.apple.com
    2) If the site is not displayed in your preferred language, click the Change Language link in the upper-right corner, type the name of your language in the field that appears, then click the Save button.
    3) Click the "Manage your account" link.
    4) Type your iTunes Store account name (which is your Apple ID) in the Apple ID field, type your password in the password field, then click the Sign In button.
    5) Click "Addresses" in the column on the left. If you have multiple shipping addresses, remove any out-of-date or duplicate addresses by clicking Delete. Also, make sure the state or province field is filled out correctly for each address. To edit an address, click Edit. Edit all of your shipping addresses and make sure the appropriate state is selected in the State drop-down menus.
    6) Now click "Phone Numbers" on the left. The area codes should be in the area code fields and the phone numbers should be in the phone number fields. If an area code is missing, or if it is in a phone number field, your account information may not save properly.
    7) Make any other necessary corrections, then click the Save Changes button.
    8) Click Log out in the upper-right corner.
When you make your next purchase on the iTunes Store, you will be asked to review your billing information. At this point, you can change your information or simply click Done at the bottom of the screen to proceed. Once you click Done, you should be able to purchase on the iTunes Store using your store credit.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here. Have you checked the purchase history on your account (Store > View My Account on yoru computer's iTunes), and have you (or anyone who access to your devices) made in-app purchases in apps and/or have you taken out any subscriptions in apps ? If not then you can contact iTunes support via this page and ask for help : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Can anyone recommend a USB CF card reader that will work in my Macbook Pro Retina? My USB card readers for CF cards do not work

At present, the only way I can load photos from a CF card to my new Macbook Pro Retina is by loading them onto an external hard drive via an old PC that can accept either of my USB card readers, then plugging the external hard drive into my MBP. Neither the USB card reader or the cable that comes with the Canon HDSLR camera will transfer photos directly to my MBP. I find it unbelievable that I have to go to a PC to load photos because I can't do it with my new MBP.
Has anyone found a reliable USB CF card reader, or one that connects via thunderbolt or HDMI, at any price, that will work directly with the new MBP Retina?

    This is what we need:
Location photoshoot - we use the Canon EOS 5D  Mk II still camera & the Canon FX100 pro camcorder.
CF cards are: SanDisk Extreme UDMA & SanDisk Extreme Pro UDMA 6 for video (I think they are both Type II) My Mac recognises them both as FAT 32 format
My MBPRetina is on the latest version of Mountain Lion OSX 10.83
the files from the camcorder will transfer to my MacBook Pro Retina directly via the camera's cable but it is quite slow & it means I cannot continue to film while downloading files but this we can live with.
the files from the still camera Canon EOS 5D  Mk II will not transfer directly via the camera's cable - have yet to get the Canon software to download, but via the camera's cable will not help anyway as we need to have the still camera free to keep shooting.
We need to be able to take out the CF card from the first part of the shoot & download the still shots while just on the Macbook's battery power, while we insert a fresh CF card back into the still camera to continue with the next part of the shoot simultaneously (while the first card is downloading.)
The files from the first part of the shoot will be both in RAW (.CR2) & Jpeg format. We just need to quickly transfer the jpegs, then I do a quick sort, batch the best ones as black/white images, & use these in a client slideshow immediately after part 2 of the shoot.
Obviously we need fast data transfer speeds, & rely on the MBP's battery power while on a location shoot.
The card readers I have tried are an older specific CF card reader branded as Palm, & a USB 2 multi card reader branded as Travel Flash. With both readers, the lights on the readers flash on & off, & the MBP recognises the card & the files will even appear both in Finder & in i-Photo, so it starts importing, then aborts with an error message saying:
'The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)'
    & another message saying:
'the disk was not ejected properly'.
So it appears the MBP does read the CF cards but the card readers don't stay connected, no matter what angle I put them on or however many times I re-connect them.
Yes, they are probably cheap & I want to buy a decent one.
    So, in summary:
the card reader needs to work when the MBPR is only on battery power (I read in some forums that some USB card readers aren't so reliable on the laptop's battery power)
the card reader needs to be quite fast. I have read the USB 3 readers won't read CF cards at higher than USB 2 speeds. Is this true? Are the firewire connected ones faster, & if so, are they still reliable on the MBP's battery power?
From research, it appears my problem is associated with my specific model of Mac & platform, being MacBook Retina on Mountain Lion OSX Version 10.83. If any of the recommended card readers have been successful with this, plese let me know.
Thanks heaps for the suggestions so far.

  • How to find out what type of usb is on my computer

Both machines have USB 1.1 ports built-in. No Power Mac G4 or Titanium PowerBook comes with built-in USB 2.0 ports; there are expansion cards which will add USB 2.0 ports to some machines.
