What are the HDD specs i need to replace my HDD on a 2009 MBP?
Hi,
My MBP was auto rendering video on FCP and I accidently closed the screen. When i reopened the screen it finished up rendering but FCP was completely frozen and i couldnt quit or open the force quit menu so i did a manual restart. When the comp started to boot back up i was presented with a question mark folder. Ive done the hardware test, booted from the install disk, looked in disk utility and it seemed that my HD had disappeared. The System profiler says there is an error communicating with my HD.
Ive tried all the button combos while booting with no luck.
I guess this means the HD is dead. So what specs do i need to look for in a HD for my 2009 Macbook Pro 15" ? (unless of course one of yous guys has some sort of miracle fix)
-mike
If Disk Utility can't see your drive, then it's most likely dead. I believe that your MBP is a Unibody if it's from 2009. In that case, you can use any SATA 2.5" notebook drive, including the 1 TB sized ones.
Personally I like the WD Scorpio Black series, which is now available in a 7200 RPM 750 GB size. You may want to check with Newegg and Tiger Direct, as they often have specials on drives.
Good luck!

I just received the masters for a new SD DVD. I would like to author a "widescreen anamorphic" SD DVD horizontally squeezed widescreen image stored in a standard 4:3 aspect ratio DVD image frame. (On 4:3 displays, mattes should preserve the original aspect ratio. On 16:9 displays the image will fill the screen at the highest possible resolution.)
Below I've listed the specs of the Digi Beta master tapes the producers have sent to me for digitizing. I'd like to know this: What are the ideal specs for a DigiBeta master tape when authoring a widescreen anamorphic SD DVD, using material with an original aspect ratio of 14:9?
I've also listed my guesses below. Please let me know if my guesses are right. If not, please suggest alternatives (and if possible explain why.)
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS OF EXISTING MASTER:
Tape: DigiBeta
Original Aspect Ratio: 1.55 (14:9)
Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
Frame Size: 720 x 480
Anamorphic: Full-Height Anamorphic (16:9 image displayed in letterboxed, non-distored 4:3)
Display Format: 4:3 Letterbox
MY GUESS AT IDEAL TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS (for a DigiBeta, that is):
Tape: DigiBeta
Original Aspect Ratio: 1.55 (14:9)
Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect: Square
Frame Size: 720 x 540
Anamorphic: YES
Display Format: 16:9 Anamorphic (horizontally squeezed widescreen image)
Please feel free to ask for clarification or further information you need to answer my question.
Thank you so much in advance for your help!
Best, Noetical.
BTW, I can't wait for the day when everything has gone digital and we get digital intermediates instead of tapes to digitize!Hi Nick...thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.
Nick Holmes wrote:
What you have there is a mess.
NTSC pixels are never square.
NTSC is 720x486, even when it is Anamorphic.
You shouldn't be using an already letterboxed master to make an Anamorphic version. Get the master that was made before the letterboxing stage.
When you make an Anamorphic DVD it should display as 16:9 full screen automatically on widescreen TVs.
The same DVD will automatically letterbox on 4:3 TVs.
Um yeah...duh. That's exactly what I was trying to explain in the preface of my question. I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear...all these things you mention are the reasons I'm putting together a list of the technical specs of the DigiBeta I need so I can have them send that instead of the stupid letterboxed version.
Look, I'm sending this request to some intern at their offices in England, asking for a master with which I can make an Anamorphic DVD. They already sent me this master, which as you and I both agree is an idiotic asset to use for these purposes. As such, I was hoping for advice on a more precise way of requesting the master that I need than asking for "the master that was made before the letterboxing stage." Upon reflection, perhaps I'll just do that. If you or anyone else has a suggestion about something I should add to my request that would improve the odds of them sending the tape I need, please repond. Thank you!
BTW, It's been a long time since anyone has responded to something I've written or said as though I'm an idiot. I remember now that I don't really like it. (Moving along...) -

I have a Win7Pro SP1 PC locked down with a Group Policy as it is a public facing PC. PDF fillable forms cannot be completed when logged on as the restricted user. The forms work as a normal user. What are the user requirements/permissions needed to fill forms?
Well, try this (I was able to fix my with these steps):
Go Utilities > Disk Utility
Select your Startup Disk, e.g. Macintosh HD
Then, under the First Aid Tab, click Verify Disk Permissions.
If there are errors, then click repair Disk Permissions.
After it is done, restart the computer and see if your problem is resolved.
I hope this help.

What are the output specs on the creative car and house charg
I found a belkin AC to USB adapter and here are the specs:
Belkin Model: USB-TC-0 Input: 00~240 VAC, .3A, 50~60Hz Output: 5.5 VDC, A Plugs into US standard wall socket Provides one powered USB port
Would this work?
What are the output specs of the creative car and house charger so i can compare it to this?
thanksJustinw wrote:
is your charger a house one or a car one? thanks for you help.
not sure about the .5v difference
That would be for the house. And it should work with a .5V difference, but dont hold my word on it when your player gets hot. Also this is for a Zen Micro? -

What are the ideal Mac Pro specs for a professional graphic designer using CS5 Premium- using mostly InDesign, Illustrator and PhotoShop?
24GB RAM
SSD for boot drive
GHz, but not necessarily dual. Apple doesn't sell dual 3.33s.
A single 3.33 6-core should do fine and "sweet spot" (when looking, there is "4-core" build to order..,. and like everything else on the Store, why in heavens they didn't be more accurate and clear and say "single socket" and then have "dual processor configurations" 0 I guess the writers don't understand or know workstations or jargon? I say that 'cause some have trouble even finding the 6-core 3.33 choice ($1200 over stock 2.8 4-core).
W3680 though can be found on Buy.com for $620 (was $589 at earlier date) and people are known to then sell the stock cpu $300 making it even more attractive and save $600-900 that way rather easily. Or not.
But yes, I would send you to MPG.com site as well and read through what is on there. -
What are the installer(setups) I need to install for webcenter Portal
I use a 32bit laptop now and I want to start working on webcenter portal. What are the applications I need to install in order so I can successfully get my webcenter working. I already have installed Jdeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
ThanksThis depends on what exactly you mean by 'my webcenter'.
If all you want is develop your own webcenter applications (using the WebCenter Framework), you might be good to go only with the webcenter jdev plug-in (see http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/156082.xml#oracle.webcenter.app). Your apps will be deployed to the integrated WLS. There will be two important missing pieces:
a) WebCenter Content as the document storage (requires also a database)
b) BPEL/BPM as the workflow engine
You might also want to install WebCenter Portal: Spaces, or deploy your apps to a separate WebCenter Portal server (running on its own Weblogic Server).
Optionally, you might also want to utilize other servers contained in the WebCenter Portal license such as Secure Enterprise Search for enterprise searching and/or Oracle Access Manager for enabling single sign-on between the above mentioned components. -

What are the system settings, etc., needed for a project in DV widescreen?
Hello - to do a project in DV widescreen -- what are the proper system settings and what steps must I take to import and log footage? I've tried the anamorphic -- but viewer doesn't connect to camera -- sorry this is so rudimentary but if anyone can help me get it going, I'd be very grateful. Thank you!
If your footage is DV NTSC, it is anamorphic if it's widescreen. You should be able to simply use the "Easy Setup" for DV NTSC Anamorphic and edit your heart out.
If you can't see the camera, might trash preferences: http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
And if that doesn't work, QT 7 should be reinstalled: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852

What are the best specs when building a PC for video & where to buy in US?
Our current video machine has died - a problem we have constantly battled over the years with our video machines, primarily from the heat generated in the system. These have been spacious, well spec'd out desktops, so while I'm budget concious I thought I'd reach out for advice before going ahead. The biggest problems occur when rendering video, esp. larger files.
Also, I'm visiting the US for a few weeks, so that opens up some new possibilities (it's common to see much better pricing for systems in Canada than the US.)
So my questions are two-fold.
1) What would you recommend for buying a PC video machine today, while still on a budget? I would normally look for a higher end i7 processor, 16 Gb DDR3 ram, dedicated video card, ASUS motherboard with raid 0/5 and a couple of decent sized harddrives (not striped... had terrible experiences with my striped drives in the past). In particular, what would you recommend on the video card front for the best value/performance while not creating issues with heat (this is where I've had problems with a number of machines in the past)? In terms of harddrive management, are there some better options now for handling real time editing and rendering? (I would like to connect the 2 harddrives from the machine that has failed to the new machine.)
2) I'm in Ft. Myers, FL for the next couple of weeks... what are some good options for either having a machine built or getting the parts to build myself? (I don't need an OS, but will install Win 7 Pro myself.) Normally I'd look to TigerDirect or CanadaComputers for a new system.
My main use for the machine will be Premiere/After Effects, with some Photoshop/Illustrator.
Any other advice/input on how to optimize the machine so that I don't have HDD issues and other isssues from overheating would be appreciated. Please keep in mind, I'm on a budget (which means I'd ideally like to spend between $800-$1300). :-)
Thanks!
