What are the prospects of Oracle Coherence?

What are the prospects of Oracle Coherence, optimistic or Pessimistic?
Is Oracle Coherence popularly used now? Will be very popular in the near future?
Thanks

The product is very good at what it does. How that relates to this forum, however, is a bit beyond me at the moment.
Do you have a specific question that relates to "Database - General?"

  • What are the unique features of Coherence than other Gird technologies ?

    Hi,
We have been using Coherence all along. But now we have got a POC to comapare coherence with eXtreme Scale. Can some one let me know what are the extra/added features of Coherence ?

  • What are the differences between Oracle Service Bus 10g and WLI 10g?

    Hi,
To me both Oracle Service Bus 10g R3 and Weblogic Integration 10g seem to offer the same functionalities for implementing an enterprise middleware.
I would be grateful if someone could:
    1. provide me with the two products' differences.
    2. describe what their roadmap is?
    3. what are their positioning in the Oracle product catalog? Are they both members of Oracle SOA Suite? Fussion Middleware?
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Babis.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply,
Eduardo: the answer to your questions are that all the flows will be short-lived but if we can make long-lived flows then we might consider developing them. We would need to persist the state of the flow somehow.
I understand that some of our requirements would be better accomodated by WLI or bpel but we don't have an option but only to use OSB.
So, do you think we could overcome the stateless nature of OSB by:
    1. writing to appropriate tables and reading from there and calling plsql procedures from the flows
    2. using JMS queues.
    In detalis:
    1. Regarding the writing/reading from Databases (in our case it would be oracle 10g R2 - probably RAC), is there something like a Database control in WLI, which we could use in OSB? What i have seen are using xquery execute-sql function or a JCA DB adapter but both of them seem to me not very easy to use. Is there another option?
    2. Regarding the JMS, in case that i want:
a service that writes to a JMS queue what are the servicetype and transport that i should use?
a service that reads from a JMS queues what are the service type and transport that we should used?
Any information that you may share with me in the design and implementation of the above would be great.
    Thanks a lot.

Is Oracle NoSQL database link with Big Data Appliance?Yes, Oracle NoSQL Database will be a component of the Big Data Appliance.
Can we use map-reduce on a single personal computer? How should we install Oracle NoSQL database to use map reduce on a single personal computer?Yes, I believe you can run M/R on a single computer. Consult the various pieces of documentation available on the web. You may run Oracle NoSQL Database on the same computer that you are running M/R on, but it is likely that they will compete for CPU and IO resources and therefore performance may suffer.
Do we also have eventual consistency with Oracle NoSQL database? Yes.
Can we lose data if master node fails? If you run Oracle NoSQL Database with the default (recommended) durability settings, then if the master fails, a new one will be elected and data is not lost.
Are transactions ACID with Oracle NoSQL database? How can we prove it?Yes, each operation is executed in an ACID transaction. The API has the concept of "multi" operations which allow the caller to perform multiple operations on sets of records with the same major key, but different minor keys. Those operations are also performed within a transaction.

  • What are the differences between Oracle AS and Database Server?

    Hi
    I have quesstions:
1- what are the main differnces between Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle Database Server 10g ?
2- does the oracle J developer 10g come with Oracle application server or comes standalone?
3- is there any integration between the three above application , and how it are working together?
    thanks
    Suhaib

    1) At its simplest level a Database Server is a database so for storing data and an application server is for running the applications (which will probably access the data in the database server).
    2) JDeveloper comes stand alone or as part of the Oracle Developer Suite which is a collection of tools for building applications.
    3) Yes they are integrated. More details on otn.oracle.com/products/ias

  • What are the steps in oracle 11g DBREFRESH

    Dear Techies,
Please help me on below. I followed all steps in db refresh
    I have done till
    Alter database open resetlogs
    status is open
what are the steps remaining in oracle 11g dbrefresh from PRD to QTY. is there any post steps to drop old ops$users.
    Please let me know.
    Thank you
    Best Regards
    RJ

    Hi Gurpal,
Thank you for your valuable reply
Do I need to do your mentioned steps after below steps
    RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROL FILE UNTIL CANCEL;
    AUTO.
    once recovery is done CANCEL.
    Alter database open resetlogs.
    status is open.
    AS YOU MENTIONED
Make sure listener and DB should be up.
    Determine Schema Owner
    SQL> SELECT OWNER FROM DBA_TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'T000';
    Check the OWNER of  “SAPUSER”
    SQL>SELECT OWNER FROM DBA_TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'SAPUSER';
    Create OPS$ User
Use the oradbusr.sql script. This script is attached to the note 50088. The script is valid for Oracle and UNIX. Use the following syntax
    SQL> @ORADBUSR.sql  SAPR3 UNIX (SID)  X
Check the OWNER of  “SAPUSER" after exceute command
    SQL>SELECT OWNER FROM DBA_TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'SAPUSER';
If the system returns an owner <owner> other than OPS$<sid>ADM (OPS$SIDADM) of PRD, you must
    delete the relevant SAPUSER tables:
    SQL> DROP TABLE “OPS$SIDADM".SAPUSER;
and after that check the output of (R3trans -d)
set the value in profile parameter
To ensure no background jobs after the start (Rdisp/wp_no_btc =0)
    (Login/no_automatic_user_sapstar =0 )
or Any table spaces need to be create ???? PSAPTEMP ??? or any.
    Thanks & Regards

  • What are the requirements for Oracle Locator?

Hi, when installing a new database, we want to trim out the stuff that Oracle installs by default that we don't absolutely need. However, we do want to make use of the MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY type and Oracle Locator (not Spatial).
Oracle has all these different components, and we jut found out that in order to use Locator, you have to install Oracle interMedia. Is there anything else there that Locator has a dependency on that we would be missing? We intend to install these:
    Oracle Workspace Manager
    Oracle Enterprise Manager
    Oracle Database Catalog Views
    Oracle Database Packages and Types
But out of the list of the rest of them, what is needed for Oracle Locator?
    Spatial
    Oracle interMedia
    OLAP Catalog
    Oracle XML Database
    Oracle Text
    Oracle Expression Filter
    Oracle Rules Manager
    Oracle Workspace Manager
    Oracle Data Mining
    Oracle Database Catalog Views
    Oracle Database Packages and Types
    JServer JAVA Virtual Machine
    Oracle XDK
    Oracle Database Java Packages
    OLAP Analytic Workspace
    Oracle OLAP API

Oracle Locator is implemented in the MDSYS userid. (It's included in every version and edition of the database since 8i, including 10gR2 Express Edition.)
As you have noted, Locator is considered part of intermedia. (In some versions of Oracle, Locator is officially a feature of intermedia, in others it seems to be independent. In all versions, it uses a commono install with intermedia.) The install for intermedia 10gR2 is described at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14302/ap_instl_upgrd.htm#sthref649
I believe there are some Locator funtions in 10gR2 that are impemented in Java and require the JVM. The 10gR2 Express Edition (XE) does not include JVM and Locator seems to be mostly functional, but there are areas that do not work.
Technically you do not need Oracle Text or Oracle XDK/XMLDB. I've found they are extremely useful so I do include them in my minimum installs. They are also included in XE.
In your list the following are related to separately licensed EE options: Spatial, OLAP and Data Mining
