What causes crash with "Illegal instruction" message?
Hi,
I'm a bit of an amateur, so thanks for any help.
This program I'm working on tends to crash with a message saying "Illegal instruction" in the Terminal (where it was opened). There are no details, and I don't know what could be causing it. It's sort of a complicated program, with lots of parts, each of which have worked fine independently or in other programs before, so I don't know what code I could show you that might help explain the problem.
I'm just wondering what this message is all about, or what types of things cause it. I can't find any information on the java site about it, but if someone knows of a place where it's documented in some form, I would really appreciate it.

hey thanks, this looks like it's on the right track.
But I'm still not sure what limit has been reached. What are the limits? Are they documented somewhere?
I've been dividing up methods here and there, like the guy on that message board did, but his was specifically a huge static method, which I don't have. But I've been splitting other stuff up anyway, to no help.

InDesign CS5 on MAC - ID Crashing (With Serious Error Message)
After going into Document Setup with a document open, and changing the document orientation from landscape to portrait, InDesign CS5 crashes after clicking OK with an error message (see attached screen shot). I've deleted the settings file by starting ID with Shift+Command+Option+Ctrl held down. I ran some maintenance using the app OnyX (cleared caches, repaired permissions, etc.) Any idea what would cause this? I've stopped short of reinstalling, but that may be the only option. Also, I updated CS5 with the latest updates, and that didn't fix it either.
At this point you may have corrupt recovery data that is preventing ID from starting if it crashes each time you try to launch it. Move everything out of the InDesign Recovery folder intoa safe place (you'll probably want to delete it later, but you don't know yet) and see if ID will launch. Then try opening any files that you were working on at the time of the first crash. Hopefully they aren't damaged and you've only lost work since the last save.

Applications crashing with dyld error messages: CFURLStorageSessionGetDefault
All was working fine (been told to hold off on updates so have not installed them, yet I am running 10.6.8 [10K549]). Suddenly after a reboot applications crash with the same error:

Can not open Terminal. Can not open Skype (removed 2.x version, downloaded latest 5.3.59 and installed), can not run Evolution (starts, but when clicking a message same error). Attempted to install 10.6.8 bundled update (manual download), but when selected to open get yet again - the same crash error.
Was able to create a new user and same issues with that account. Any help?!My system has a PGP encrypted disk (so no booting from CD to fix). It appears that one of Apple's AUTO updates (though I have them manually turned off!!) has screwed my system to the point of making the OS show up as a version that is not running. Due to the versioning not being right the applications crash. The verdict: rebuild.

ISync fails - what to do with this error message?
I set my iMac to autosync everyday at a certain time. I realized that the last sync was 7/27/06, and when I go to Sync tab in the .Mac system preferences, I get the following ".Mac Sync Error" message exactly as follows:
"* -[NSKeyedUnarchiver initForReadingWithData:]: incomprehensible archive (0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0, 0x0)"
Any idea of what sync fails? and what I need to do ?

You may be able to deal with the error message by resetting the Sync Services framework—its truth database, actually—by launching iSync, opening the Preferences… dialog, and pressing the Reset Sync History button. That will leave your data intact and your sync clients registered, but reset the truth database and framework to behave in such a way that your next synchronization event will appear to be the first event you have ever performed.
The 'incomprehensible archive' the error message refers to is likely on your Macintosh.
Before proceeding further, back up your contact and calendar files using the built in provision to do so in both the Address Book and iCal. If resetting the database does not correct your issue, you can launch System Preferences, open the .Mac pane and press the Advanced tab. In the lower left corner is a Reset Sync History button. Press that, and in the dialog which appears, configure .Mac to overwrite the data files for one OS X application on your machine at a time, starting with contacts. Make sure that you overwrite your computer data [which you have just backed up, and can therefore restore if that is necessary] with the data from .Mac. -
Adobe Acrobat Pro DC keeps crashing with "Not Responding" message
Hi there, I just started using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC and it keeps crashing with a "not responding" message. It never used to happen with acrobat XI. Any ideas?

Does this happen while accessing any PDF ' or when you launch Acrobat ?
You could try repairing Acrobat and see if that helps .
Is there any error number or exit code associated with the error message ?If yes ,please share the screen shot of the same.

Sprint Treo 755P Crashes with Good Mobile Messaging
I have a Sprint Treo 755P and it reboots with Good Mobile Messaging. I've installed it several time from the "Get Good" link on the phone. It will install and run for a day or two. Eventually it will crash and continueally reboot. I'm totally baffled. I've reinstalled it several times and even done a hard reset.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I suggest you try upgrading to a more recent JRockit version (google for "download jrockit" and get the latest JRMC version you can find, it includes JRockit R27.6.5). If that doesn't help, open a ticket with Oracle Support and provide the text dump and the minidump for analysis.

Finally determined what causes an "Internal Error Occurred" message in FW
I use Fireworks for creating wireframes. One FW png file may contain many layers
with each layer representing a web page. The intention is to create the png file, and then to export it to a PDF file so that developers can use it to view the pages and to understand page navigation. I learned this technique by watching Jim Babbage's excellent video on using Fireworks for wireframing.
I create hotspots in the FW png file on one layer and use that to point to another layer that represents another web page. The purpose is to show a kind of flow or extra info for the developers. I've been struggling for over a year with an error that would pop up now and then when attempting to save the png file. The error would show "Internal Error Occurred" and I had no idea why this was occurring. I tried multiple things to get rid of the error and recently I finally discovered what was causing it.
It turns out that if you create a FW png file with layers, and you insert a hotspot that points to one of those layers, and then later when editing the FW png file you decide to delete a layer that is being referenced via a hotspot in a different layer, this error will occur. It doesn't occur every time you attempt to save the png file, but it will occur if you save the png file (no error shown), then export to a pdf file, then (as required by FW) attempt to save the png file again. That's when you will see the error for sure.
The cause is a hotspot link that points to a layer that no longer exists. This is most often caused by creating hotspots that point to the layer, then later deciding to delete that layer but you don't go back and remove any hotspot links to the deleted layer. For some reason, FW will let you attempt to save the file and may or many not show the dreaded "Internal Error Occurred" pop-up message. If you were able to save your png file and didn't see the error show up, and then you decide to export the png file to a PDF file, FW requires you to save the png file after the export option completes. It's when you attempt to save it at this time that it will show up for sure if your hotspot points to a deleted layer. The error message won't go away either.
It's kind of a pain if you have a bunch of layers with a bunch of hotspot links, but you will have to click on each hotspot and determine if it points to a layer that exists in the current png file. If that layer doesn't exist, you will have to point to a layer that does exist, or delete the hotspot to get rid of the "Internal Error Occurred" message.

SteveboAfter doing further testing, I've noticed that the error can't be reproduced every time a hotspot points to a nonexistent layer. BUT, every time I've encountered the "internal error occurred" message when saving a png file with hotspots and multiple layers, I have found one or more hotspots pointing to layers that no longer exist. Once pointing the hotspot(s) to a layer that does exist, or simply removing the hotspot(s), the "internal error occurred" message goes away.
So in my encounters with this error, finding the hotspot(s) that point to layer(s) that have been removed fixes the problem. The problem is that it doesn't always occur, just sometimes. It may have to do with the number of png files that may be open and the number of layers that exist, or once the error begins showing up. Just not sure, but I am sure of what I need to do to make the error go away in my case (remove hotspots that point to nonexistent layers). So far it's fixed the problem every time.
It would be interesting to see if others encounter this same error and if there is one or more hotspots pointing to deleted layers. It may be that the error message is simply a "catch-all" for errors that can't be determined and this just happens to be one scenario.

Desktop Manager crashes with "unknown error" message before sync starts
I have the latest phone software, the very latest version of the desktop software and I can't get the sync to get past the initialization stage before it crashes. I've read some of the other posts about changing the synch settings but I can't even get to the settings options before it crashes. I've uninstalled the desktop software and reinstalled it (both with and without the media manager add on). I've done a battery pull on the phone itself. I've even done a restore of the last good backup of the phone.

If you have reinstalled the software without using the clean removal procedure I recommend you
use the procedure and the install the desktop manager again. The procedure cleans the registry and
completely strips all directories etc. This will save you headaches in the long run.
Use the first procedure to check the possible causes of the "unknown error".

Most posts I see regarding any new desktop manager are installation and setup errors by far.
The other posts mainly are Windows OS programs that aren't updated or unique to a specific PC setup.

Core Center causes crash with XP SP2

Given these problems, and nothing in that thread suggesting a resolution, I'm thinking of maybe just turning off Core center with Hijack This. Do I really need Core Center or something like it to safely operate? I'm not overclocking, and I have an extra fan in my case.
