I have a Hughesnet internet data use limit of 15Gb per month which typically for my family is sufficient. As of last Thursday April 10 around 7AM my data use shot up and continued consistently high every hour. It started at 200 - 300 Mb / hour, jumped to ~550Mb / hour at 2AM 4/11/14, jumped again to 1 - 2 Gb / hour 7AM 4/11/14 and continued until all the data had been used ~9AM 4/12/14. I am using the Hughesnet utility to show what was used (after the fact) and I use Activity Monitor to what real time data use. I think it would be helpful to have a way of graphing the data use by process realtime if that exists so I can see what exact process is causing the data use. I do not have any virus software running.
As of Sunday 4/13/14 having no data left I contacted Hughesnet and began to troubleshoot the problem. I disconnected everything from the internet and shut down my wireless modem. All that has been connected since then (today is 4/16/14) is my iMac which is directly connected to my Hughesnet modem. I was given an additional 2Gb for troubleshooting. I left my iMac alone for 2 days. Very little data was used and almost no programs were running when I started using it again around 11:30AM 4/15/14. Unfortunatly, as my wife started using the iMac for a few hours that data use went up again and used up all the data. One thing i noticed was that the data use coincided with iMail being on.

Gmail is an intentionally broken implementation of IMAP that often causes problems with Mail. The problem seems to have gotten worse in Mavericks. Google has no incentive to make Gmail work well, or at all, in any mail client, because the company makes money by delivering targeted ads via the Web. The Gmail servers analyze your messages to glean information about you and your contacts that Google can then sell to marketers, or to anyone who will pay for it. You agreed to those terms when you registered a Gmail address.
I suggest either not to use Gmail at all, or to access it through the website as Google intends. You might get better results with another email client. I don't recommend any one in particular.

I reset my cellular data usage every month at the beginning of my billing period so that I can keep track of how much data I am using thru out the month. I do not have the unlimited data plan and have gone over a few times. It's usually the last couple days of my billing cycle and I am charged $10 for an extra gig which I barely use 10% of before my usage is restarted for new billing cycle. FYI, they do not carry the remainder of the unused gig that you purchase for $10 which I disagree with. But have accepted. Lol Moving on.

1) No.
2) It does provide an estimated usage, but it's not accurate. For accurate determination, you should check the remaining/used MBs from the carrier (most of the carriers provide this service for free).

You can not access the backup directly.
Did you restore your replacement from this backup?
If so then you already have everything in the backup on your device.
If not, you can wipe the device and restore from this backup:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings

What causes BUFFER GETS and PHYSICAL READS in INSERT operation to be high?

Am performing a huge number of INSERTs to a newly installed Oracle XE 10.2.0.1.0 on Windows. There is no SELECT statement running, but just INSERTs one after the other of 550,000 in count. When I monitor the SESSION I/O from Home > Administration > Database Monitor > Sessions, I see the following stats:
BUFFER GETS = 1,550,560
CONSISTENT GETS = 512,036
PHYSICAL READS = 3,834
BLOCK CHANGES = 1,034,232
The presence of 2 stats confuses. Though the operation is just INSERT in database for this session, why should there be BUFFER GETS of this magnitude and why should there by PHYSICAL READS. Aren't these parameters for read operations? The BLOCK CHANGES value is clear as there are huge writes and the writes change these many blocks. Can any kind soul explain me what causes there parameters to show high value?
The total columns in the display table are as follows (from the link mentioned above)

PGA is used for internal stuff, such as sorting, which is also used in determing the layout of secondary facets such as indexes and uniqueness. Total PGA usage varies in size based on the number of connections and required operations.

As well as the buffer blocks which represent the tablespace of the database. Since it is rare that the entire tablespace will fit into memory, stuff needs to be swapped in and out.
So - put too much space pressure on the poor operating system before starting the database, and the SGA may be squeezed. Put that space pressure on the system and you may enbd up with swapping or paging.
This is one of the reasons Oracle professionals will argue for dedicated machines to handle Oracle software.

The issue may happen more when your machine is generating additional heat, as when you're watching or processing video, or gaming. I can't say for certain, of course, but certain things will reduce the chance of the problem recurring:
1. Keep your machine as cool as possible. When there's additional heat, turn up the fan, or use an app like HD Fan Control to reduce the heat. Use your computer the way you see fit, but be conscious of heat.
2. Back up on a regular basis. Logic board problems can lead to more serious issues down the line, so backing up is a good way of safeguarding your data.
3. Look up "Logic Board Woes" on Google for a comprehensive discussion of the issue.

No idea what causes it, but it does happen. Try this.....
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.
Or this ....
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.

How can I find out what causes a program to NOT RESPONDING status suddenly?

After a very long period of functioning without serious problems a program suddenly doesn't start anymore, showing this funny rotating ball and a message in the Activity Monitor that this program is not responding. I have searched the log files meticulously, hoping to find some clues what caused the stuck, but no chance of course. Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):

Data "usage" spike in July. Unexplainable?

Have only been with Comcast since February. At this point, I really need some love to make it worth staying. June usage 87gb.July usage so far 331gb. 300gb notice last week, and 30gb used in just a few days. ???Bonus: We were gone July 3-July 14. Somehow I am to believe that we have used 4x the data in July, after only being here half the time? Wifi is secured. Customer service phone lines were closed. Chat service was only there to console me, not help. Any ideas?

I spent 2 hours on the phone with customer service including the assurance department yesterday.
All I got out of it was for them to tell me to try changing my wifi password and call back in 24 hours.
Half of our equipment is wired- not wifi, so not sure if it will do much, but my husband did change everything yesterday. Even if someone else was using our internet it would have been difficult to imagine it more than causing our usage to more than triple. Especially with our travel schedule. June was the month we were all home and probably used the most, but no one can seem to tell us what our may and April usage was...
We are now at 346 gb. So we've used 6 since yesterday supposedly. Still seems fishy. Yet I can tell you I do not look forward to another hour or more of my day being wasted on the phone today.

In fact, the only use case we could think of is extremely unlikely in an OA Framework application: if the data source for a region is not a view object, so the view instance and attribute properties are not defined for the individual web beans, then you could code the region's processFormData() to write the child web bean data to the appropriate data source. Note: The OA Framework implements processFormData() at the item level, but you can overwrite it only at the region level, so you must process all of the region's items if you ever implement anything like this. If you do choose to implement something like this, remember to call super.processFormData(OAPageContext pageContext, OAWebBean webBean) first.

Inconsistency in structure u0093KOMPu0094 - what caused this?

We had a problem where all users experienced an ABAP Dump 'DDIC_TYPE_INCONSISTENCY' when running transaction codes such as FB50.
To solve the problem SAP sent the following instructions:
The problem is due to Inconsistency in the Dictionary for the structure
KOMP. If you go to TCode SE11 : KOMP > Display : Utilities > Runtime
Object > Check -> Active runtime object for KOMP is inconsistent.
To solve this error, please activate the structure KOMP manually by
going to tcode SE11 : enter KOMP > Display : Structure Activate
I have asked SAP what exactly caused this problem and they mentioned that a user had changed underlying structure of KOMP named KOMPAKE.
Tcode SE11 is locked in Production to prevent stuff like this from happening and the only tcode the users ran before we experienced the first dump is KE30.
SAP insists that KE30 could not have changed structure. And the only changes made in production were transports imported 5 days before we experienced this problem.
Would anyone have ideas on how I can determine what caused this problem?

I looked at the version management for this structure KOMPAKE and the only entry I see is from the same user ID with a data/time stamp right before we experienced the first ABAP Dump, and the entry in the version managements starts like this:
Version(s) in the development database:
activ          X 640
I also noticed the same structure KOMPAKE changed in our QA environment by a user that was testing KE30 a day after we had this problem in Production.
So maybe KOMPAKE was auto-generated by KE30 and somehow failed before it could complete, leaving it in an inactive state?
But if that is the case why were there no problems before, can a structure be auto-generated if its already active?
I also found this System log in SM21 where it shows the first ABAP Dump and the errors before it:

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

What causes my Nano to loose my work out info when I push pause on earphones? Although I am shoowing previous workout history, using Nike+.

It just happened to my 4GB nano too and I reset it (Menu + Select) a couple of times (okay, about five times or so) with no luck. I hooked it up to a Mac to see if that would do the trick and still the same problem.
Until today, my nano's been running great (it doesn't even scratch easily [I own a black one]) and I have the latest firmware on it too. I'm thinking it must have something to do with my having recently: 1) changed the name of my nano (through iTunes 6.0.1) 2) it's almost filled to capacity (40MB free) with data from iCal, Address Book and iPhoto, 3) I just upgraded to iTunes 6.0.1. [...]
I'll try to connect and sync it to my Mac again tomorrow and if that doesn't do the trick it looks like I'll have to do a restore on my nano.
Oh, and I also tried taking "Music" off of my main menu and putting it back on with no luck. Since this problem is only with the "Music" menu for my nano, if I'm on the road I can always put "Artists" or "Playlists" in my main menu as a temporary fix to get to my music collection.
