What does servlet-name & jsp-file tags do...

Could someone please tell me how does the following tags pair work, in a JSP/servlet based application.
<servlet-name>Hellow</servlet-name>
<jsp-file>/Appl/Jsp/process.jsp</jsp-file>
What is the relationship between the Hellow and the /Appl/Jsp/process.jsp file
Regards
AN

When you register a servlet in the deployment descriptor, you must always specify <servlet-name>. The other required parameter is EITHER <servlet-class> OR <jsp-file>. For a standard servlet, use <servlet-class>, for a JSP use <jsp-file>.
Servlets are always registered, JSPs are not. The reason to register a JSP is to set other values such as <load-on-startup>. In this case, the JSP must be converted to a servlet before deployment.
Read the servlet spec for a better and fuller description.

  • What should I take note when converting Servlets to JSPs files?

    Hi Everyone,
I have a web application that currently runs using Servlets and JSP, but i intend to change every servlet file into JSP.
    What should I take note?
    Please advice and comment.
    Thanks in advance

Ok, I can see your logic, but I don't agree with it.
It may SEEM like you'll save time, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't in the end.
So you don't have to restart the Tomcat server so much.
That still doesn't justify writing java code into a JSP.
Whatever you gain from not restarting the server you will lose 10 times over from stupid compile errors/typos that come from writing scriptlet code in a JSP.
Java code belongs in a java class, where you can take advantage of all of the assistance of the IDE for code completion, formatting, compiling, syntax checking etc.
Also if you write your code in classes, you can test them with Junit tests - something harder to do when your logic is embedded in JSPs
Write your java code where it is meant to be. In java classes. Beans/Servlets/whatever.
A JSP is for one purpose only - to produce an HTML page.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • Determine an URL from an identifier (servlet name, jsp name or something)

I would like to write URLs in my JSP files, but I don't want to hardcode them. Is any way to use the datas from the web.xml?
So I would write the name of the Servlet / name of the JSP file and it would resolve to an URL.
    Is any method for this?
    Very thanks your help!

The server will load the properties file into memory so there will be some memory overhead. The actual amount of memory used will be server dependent. If you want to make sure the file is loaded just once and the data cached for the entire application set the scope in the fmt:setBundle tag to application. This means the file will be loaded once and stored in memory. The cache will be maintained for the life of the application.
If you want to free memory when the the properties aren't needed, then you can set the scope in the fmt:setBundle tag to page (the default), which will allow (but not force) the memory used by the cache to be released when memory is low.
Note that there are 2 scopes at play here, the properties file is loaded and cached in the resource-loading process so the file would only need to be re-loaded when the data changed. The second is the scope the bundle is stored in for the web application. As long as the web application holds the bundle, the resource cache will not be freed. When the reference is released by the web application the cache may be released if memory requires it, or may be kept so the next time the resource is needed there isn't an overhead related to loading the bundle again.
Setting the scope in the fmt:setBundle to page is the most flexible use, because it allows the Resource cache to hold the properties file in memory then just provide references as needed (much like if you had the scope set to application), but also allows the cache to be free its memory if required.
In the particular example provided above, you don't have control of the Resource Caching. You could implement your own implementation of a ResourceBundle and use ResourceBundle.Control to configure the Cache. This could be done invisibly behind the scenes if you find the memory used by the default implementation too much.

  • What does "domain name is used for your typekit fonts & SEO sitemap.xml" mean?

Why is Muse now asking, on either uploading files via Muse or externally through another ftp, for a domain name that is used for your typekit fonts & SEO sitemap.xml?
I used Muse for exporting my files to ftp externally a few months back and I could add whatever I liked into the domain name field (which made sense as I could choose an appropriate name). I upgraded Muse this morning and now no domain name I add in here is accepted and on hovering over the info icon I get a "domain name is used for your typekit fonts & SEO sitemap.xml. What does that mean exactly?
    If anyone can help?

    Hi Guys
Great thread Omniscient! Like Bian, my username is just my name. It's a unisex name and caused a nice little debate in the early days of this forum as to whether I was male or female!
Kerry is from the Irish meaning 'dark-haired' but I am a blondie (natural blonde when younger, bottle blonde now I am older!) I think my mum just liked the name...
There are lots of interesting usernames out there - tell us about them and where they come from!
    Cheers

  • In Adobe Stock Photos, what does BEER (in the file BEER.dll and in the beerResponse.log) stand for?

Hello! I have installed the trial version of Adobe Creative Suite CS3 a long time ago and I have always wanted to know what the BEER in BEER.dll (a part of Adobe Stock Photos software) stands for. I have searched the web and never found a clear answer. It creates a file called beerResponse.log and I would like to know if it is some kind of acronym and if it is what does it stand for?
If someone could help that would be great.

I don’t know and it doesn’t matter. That service died a very fast death.

  • What does Friendly Name Property do?

I am testing a WinForms application with Coded UI.  I'm trying to understand what the Friendly Name property does.
When viewing a Coded UI Map inside Visual Studio and looking at the properties of a particular control, I see the following items:
    Control Type
    Friendly Name
    Search Configurations
    Search Properties
    Technology Name
    Window Titles
I'm trying to understand what Friendly Name does.  Thanks.

    Hello TheChargs,
    Glad to receive your reply.
When you drag the crosshair on the control, you will view the properties of the control such as FriendlyName property. We can use these propertied to search the control through searchproperties and filterproperties.
    Reference:
How does “Coded UI test” finds a control ??
Yes if the friendlyname property value is “BtnSubmit”, and you use it to search the control, CUIT will use the “BtnSubmit” when searching the control. CUIT will check some controls based on the searchproperties which you specify. If
a control matches the search properties and filter properties, it will locate the control as the target control.
In addition, maybe you also can get some idea from the following blog :

  • What does full name on Part number?

    Dear all,
Does any one know the full name of part number as below?
    1- WS-C3650-48FS
what is full name WS, FS?
    2- WS-C3650-48TQ
    what is full name TQ?
    3-  WS-C2960X-48FPD-L
    what is full name X , FPD-L
do you have link to show on this ?
    Best Regards,
    Rechard

There is not a publicly published complete and explicit definition of the letters Cisco uses in their product nomenclature. the best one can do is look at either the product data sheet or Cisco Commerce Workspace (partner / reseller only) and see what the product description is.
For instance, WS-C3650FS (-E or -L) is "Cisco Catalyst 3650 48 Port Full PoE 4x1G Uplink IP Services" (with Enhanced or Lanbase license), WS-C3650-48TQ is "Cisco Catalyst 3650 48 Port Data 4x10G Uplink IP Services" and WS-C2960X-48FPD-L is "Catalyst 2960-X 48 GigE PoE 740W, 2 x 10G SFP+, LAN Base".
WS generally is a prefix on part numbers for all Wire Speed switch products. (Though that breaks down a bit on some of the smaller Catalyst models.) I've also seen it refer to "Workgroup Switch" class products.
FS means is is a switch with fiber user ports.
X distinguishes the newer 2960 models from the original 2960 series.
FPD-L mean it has Full PoE+ and comes with Lanbase software feature license.
Generally the letters at the end refer to the uplink type and license level.

  • What Does the iPhoto Library File Contain?

Does the iPhoto Library File (located: User -> Pictures -> iPhoto Library) contain both i) the images and ii) the layout, photo sizing, photo positioning, etc. for a Book Project created in iPhoto 08? I want to move a Book Project that I have created on computer "MacA" to another computer "MacB." MacA and MacB are not on the same network, so I will need to copy the file(s).
I want to be certain that the iPhoto Library File (described above) contains ALL OF THE FILES necessary to successfully move the Book Project from MacA to MacB. Will someone kindly confirm this. Thank you. Dale

If you have not changed the default setting for "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" then you iPhoto library is totally self contained and can be successfully copied to another Mac with the same or newer version of iPhoto - if you have changed that preference (strongly not recommended) then you will have great difficulty in moving your library

  • What Does This Do? File New Calendar Exchange Account

When creating a New Calendar in iCal, you're given a choice of On My Mac or Exchange Account. I know Snow Leopard will offer Exchange compatibility in future, but what does selecting Exchange Account do today?

    Hello Rene,
no, it's not the same. The first one is more general, as you set the application to be unavailable before you do the upgrade. Obviously, you use it for any other maintenance task as well. We also use it to disable applications that shall only be available a few days per month.
The second attribute is set to mark the application of being imported (also if it's the first time) and hence it won't be accessible at that moment. Furthermore, you can't execute a second update/import at that time, which would be possible if you just set the flow status to unavailable.

  • What does a "playlist.m3u" file do?

I downloaded an MP3 album.  It has 18 tracks, cover art, and a playlist.m3u file.
I'm a beginner with iTunes.  I understand the concept of creating a custom playlist in iTunes, but why would a playlist.m3u file be included with an MP3 album?  The songs are already tagged in the order they would be on the CD ... and gap/gapless info is embedded into the MP3 tracks ... so I don't understand what info might be in this playlist.m3u file.
What is a playlist.m3u used for?  Is it Windows-specific?  Does it do anything in iTunes for Mac?  Can I just delete this thing?

Back to my original question, if anyone else wants to help me ... I do understand the concept of a custom playlist - creating a list of songs, sort of like a custom mix CD - but why would a playlist.m3u file be included with an MP3 album when the songs are intended by the artist to be in a certain order and gap information is already embedded into the MP3 files?  Is the playlist.m3u files there to have the folder of MP3s play in any way differently than if the playlist.m3u file was not there?  Is it to cause the songs to play back in an alternate order?
If anyone wants to post a google-link to an answer to this specific question, I'd be happy to read it.  I can't find a specific answer anywhere.  All I find are general definitions of playlist.m3u files which still don't tell me what difference they make in an album folder.

  • What does this name mean in the following form

    Hi guys,
Can anyone please tell me abt the name field and also other field onSubmit does in the following form

    Hi guys,
Can anyone please tell me abt the name
abt the name field and also other field onSubmit does
    in the following form
    <form method="post" action="IAFDispatcher"
    name="mainForm2" onSubmit="return checkCustomer()">
Thanks in advance. The name field is used for identifying this form on the client side, such as through javascript DOM operations (like document.forms.mainForm2 would locate the form in question).
The onSubmit attribute defines a javascript function that will occur when the 'onsubmit' event of the form is given. The 'onsubmit' event occurs when a submit button is pushed or when a javascript .submit() method is called on the form. The function called my the onsubmit event should return a boolean value: "true" means that submission should continue, and "false" means that the form should not be submitted.
