What happened to iphoto, garageband, imovie, etc.?

I installed leopard onto my laptop and when it was installed, I no longer had ilife on my computer. Do I need to re-buy it? Keep in mind that I bought this laptop with tiger already on it with ilife on it.

Sounds like you did a Clean Install (i.e. erased your HD). The Leopard installer does not install iLife. You'll need to reinstall those apps.

  • Whats the difference between Garageband, iMovie etc. that ship with Lion and the ones in the Apple Store?

Given that the same version numbers are the same why should I pay another £10.50 for each app when Lion itself only cost £21 and contains iPhoto, IMovie and Garageband?

    Hi,
When you bought your MacBook, it came with an operating system, Snow Leopard, pre-installed.
It also came with some applications, including iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband, pre-installed.
But the iLife applications aren't part of Snow Leopard, or of Lion.
They're separate applications, and Apple gives them to you for free when you buy a new Mac.
If you launch iPhoto, then go to the iPhoto menu and choose "About iPhoto", you can find out what version of iPhoto you're running. You can also check for software updates, and if they are available you will be able to download them.
Your MacBook is very new, and I would be almost certain that the version of iPhoto you're running is the same as the version in the AppleStore.
But if Apple upgraded iLife to a new version (possibly iLife 12) you would have to pay for that if you wanted it.
And if Apple upgraded Lion to a new version (possibly Ocelot ) you would have to pay for that separately. It would not include the iLife applications.

Are you using an iPhone or iPad?

Do you have the iCloud set up?  If you don't you need to buy a third party software that will do it for you when you plug your phone into the new computer.  You can google: iPad/iPhone/iPod to Computer Transfer.  You have to pay for the software but it's really a life saver and you get free updates for life.  It'll save you a lot of pain and suffering in the future.  I've used it many times.

  • Reinstall IPhoto, Garageband, iMovie on Lion

Completed a clean install of Lion on 2009 IMac and thanks to some help from the Community was able to reinstall Aperture, Logic Express and Final Cut Express, which were supplied on DVD with the original purchase of the IMac (the computer came with these softwares pre-installed). But what do I do about iPhoto, GarageBand and iMovie? Oddly, Lion doesn't include these, even though they were included with the initial computer purchase. The App Store wants to charge me for these, and my only option so far is to drag a copy (in this case GarageBand) from my backup drive, which generated a "Instrument Library in invalid!" error. Any suggestions?

If they came with the system install them from the system disk, if you bought them use that disk.

  • TS5376 What happens to the audio, music, etc. that I've uploaded to iTunes that I didn't purchase through iTunes when unstalling iTunes?

With the iTunes runtime error, the only solution seems to be to uninstall iTunes.  If I can't open iTunes as it currently the case because of this issue, therefore I can't backup.  What happens to all the audio CDs, books, etc. that I've uploaded to iTunes that I didn't purchase through iTunes when uninstalling.  Can I be assured that these are in the Cloud also?

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
There is a link to an iTunes library backup tip within, along with other advice on getting iTunes reinstalled and working again.
You don't need iTunes to be working to backup the library. You do need iTunes to be working to backup or restore your device...

  • What happened to iPhoto network sharing?

Since upgrade to Mavericks, I cannot see how I share photos across my home network.  I do not want to have to upload to icloud as this will take much longer.  What happened to the home network sharing option?

    Two things:
    1. Great Find:
Apparently everyone ignores the option of home sharing the iPhoto library using iTunes
    2. On the other hand:
I simply put it on my Qnap NAS
you might want to read this and reconsider:
iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, exporting, saving edits and sharing the photos.
    See this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168
for more. Note also the comment:
“Additionally, storing the iPhoto library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or data loss.”

  • I am planning to to a clean install of Mavericks on my MacBook Air 11" mid 2012. Will i lose out on the free apps like iPhoto and iMovie etc after the clean install? Has anyone done it yet?

I had not upgraded to the free 10.8 update.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you do a clean installation, you will lose all iLife apps (iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand) because they are not included in OS X. However, after reinstalling OS X, you will be able to reinstall them for free from the Mac App Store. Open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and download the iLife applications. Note that the latest version is only compatible with OS X Mavericks.
Also, make a backup of your files with Time Machine before upgrading and check that your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • ITunes 11 - I am absolutely lost - what happened to transferring apps, files, etc.?

I have iTunes 10 at work, but I made the mistake of installing 11 on a computer at home.  All it seems to have is advertisements for music or other media, which I absolutely do not care about. In know they call it I"Tunes," but all I want to do is transfer files (to Goodreader app, for example).
When I connect at wor on iTunes 10, I can display the tablet desktop screens, move icons around, off load or on load apps I have purchased, and generally manage those superficial things.
Now I cannot seem to do that anymore.  Very very very frustrated.  Is it possible to uninstall iTunes 11 and find and download 10 so that I can manage my apps and other data in my tablet?  Is this capability gone now?  Why would apple think all this music, video, whatever is useful here?  I see music, Movies, books, etc. as choices across the top of the screen.  I don't want any of that at all.  I just want to manage my tablet and move files on/off Goodreader and other apps like I can with iTunes 10.
What am I missing here?  This is really time consuming.  Any way to completely disable and block all iTunes content or whatever related to music or videos and just work with useful items?

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 and later you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
If you feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • What happened to the old iMove HD? Bring it back, please

I suspect the reason it went bye bye was because it was cannibalizing FCP Express sales. But I really have no use for the new iMovie. A lot of useless effects and now this ridiculous Trailer feature. Forget the trailer, I wanna cut the **** movie! The old iMovie allowed you to do both. You could cut a movie with it, and you didn't have to learn FCP either. I can't cut anything in the new iMovie. Is there anyone else who's with me?

but it's basically aimed at people who just want to knock something together easily and quickly.
Yes You are absolutly right. BUT
When they done that - the forum fills up with questions on WHY isn't it Hollywood Quality ?
And this comes suprisingly soon. That's why me and others react with our spine
and blabing out the quality aspect before people burned away some tens of DVDs not
figuring out why they doesn't look as on the Mac screen.
Sorry - sometime more information than asked for - gives the Anti-reaction.
Enjoy iMovie'11 and if You by any chanse figure out - howto share the result in
a Professional Quality (as Your Camera put's in Your hand)
Please ! Please ! Share it with me - I love to share my "far from Master Pieces"
and at a quality I was used too.

  • HT204486 What happens to iPhoto libraries on different Macs when using Photos

I have photo libraries in different Macs and have switched on iCloud to work with Photos on my macbook pro. Do these libraries on my other Macs get merged with the one in the Cloud regardless of duplication of photos ?

thanks Leonie. I had the same impression: I started to connect a second computer to the photo library in iCloud, which I quickly stopped. I nevertheless ended up with 400 additional photos in the iCloud library.
In that case it may be better to remove the other libraries before connecting other Macs. Presumably you have to make a new, empty, library and designate that the system library.

  • Z10 What happened to sync for contacts etc.

I managed (with the help of my cloud Outlook provider) to sync contacts and calendar using ActiveSync.  However, the Outlook Notes (which I heavily depend on and has always synced in the past) no longer syncs.  To me, this is unacceptable!
I can do without new features but can not lose those that have worked (flawlessly) in the past.

    Hey Frank,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Notes will only sync through ActiveSync if you're running Exchange 2010.
Also BlackBerry Link will be getting PIM sync later this year. For more information, please see http://bbry.lv/11U2Quh.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.
