What happens to emails sent to my organisation if my exchange 2013 server is off

Hello just new to exchange server.
something i want to know is if my exchange server is not reachable or off, what happens to the emails people send to our organisation? do they just get lost or do they get bounced back to the sender?
Many Thanks

not really, just my exchange server took it upon it self to restart after an update even though the update was applied on Thursday at 3:00am and it restarted today.
we have a smart host but i don't know if it mail queues. it may just bounce back but either way the email are not lost at least that was my worry.
Many Thanks

  • Getting error when I try to remove eum secondary email address from the Mailbox from Exchange 2013 server

Getting error when I try to remove eum secondary email address from the Mailbox from Exchange 2013 server. The command works if you issue directly from the server exchange shell.
I open the remote power shell to the exchange server 2013.
Issue the following commands and getting the following error.
    $mailbox = Get-Mailbox -Identity testuser$mailbox.EmailAddresses -= "eum:50004;phone-context=telExt5digits.lync5.com"Then getting the following error:Method invocation failed because [System.Collections.ArrayList] doesn't contain a method named 'op_Subtraction'.
    At line:1 char:27
    + $mailbox.EmailAddresses -= <<<<  "eum:50004;phone-context=telExt5digits.lync5.com"
        + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (op_Subtraction:String) [], RuntimeException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : MethodNotFoundHelp!

Now for an answer - your remote session doesn't have the same object you have on the server itself.  Notice it says this is an array list, not a ProxyAddressCollection.  If you need to work around this, you'll need to massage the addresses another
way that the system will accept.  I'd try the following:
    $NewAddresses = $mailboxEmailAddresses | ? { $_ -notlike "eum:50004;phone-context=telExt5digits.lync5.com" }
See what you get in the $NewAddresses variable when you do this.

  • What happened to mail sent sent from keepers to inbox?

I sent mail from the keepers box to the inbox and it did not transfer. What happened to it? Can I retrieve it?

To what system are you referring? There is nothing on my iPhone called a "keepers box". Is English not your native language? If it isn't, try reposting in the language in which you're most comfortable.
The only thing I can think of is you mean the  "Saved" or "Sent" folders in Mail.
    Best of luck.

  • What happened to the sent items configuration in Exchange 2013?

    Why is Set-MailboxSentItemsConfiguration
removed from Exchange 2013? It was a really useful feature... Does anyone know if it will reappear? I know I can make a gpo and roll out the DelegateSentitemsStyle but I prefer using the setting in Exchange.

    Hi,
The feature is removed from Exchange 2013, currently, there is no official document about when this feature will be re-introduced again.
As a workaround, we can edit it via registry.
    1) Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2) Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Version\Outlook\Preferences
Note: the version depend on which version of Outlook we are using. Outlook 2010 is version 14, Outlook 2013 is version 15.
    3) On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4) Type DelegateSentItemsStyle, and then press ENTER.
    5) Right-click DelegateSentItemsStyle, and then click Modify.
    6) In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    7) Exit Registry Editor.
We should note that only the cached mode will work fine with this workaround. The DelegateSentItemsStyle registry value will not work consistently on an Exchange account that is configured in Online mode.

  • What is the best backup plan for Archive Databases in Exchange 2013?

    Hi,
We have Exchange 2013 with Hybrid setup with O365.
We have On premise exchange 2013 servers with 3 copies of primary Database & Single Copy of Archival DBs.
Now we have to frame backup policy with Symantec Backup Exec which has to backup our primary & Archival DBs
In 2007 exchange, before migration to 2013, we had policy of DBs - Weekly Full backup & Monthly Full Backup
Please suggest what would be the best possible backup strategy we can follow with 2013 DBs.
That too, especially for Archiving DBs
Our Archiving Policy are - 3 category - Any emails older than 6 month OR 1 Year OR 2 Year should go to Archive mailbox.
Keeping this in mind how to design the backup policy ?
    Manju Gowda

    Hi Manju,
you do not find best practice different from the common backup guidelines, as there is no archive db specific behaviour. Your users may move items to their archive at any time as well as your retention policies may move items that machted the retention policies
at any time. The result is frequently changing content to both, mailbox and archive mailbox databases, so you need to backup both the same way. You also may handle archives together with mailboxes together in the mailbox db
Please keep in mind that backup usually means data availability in case of system failure. So you may consider to do a less frequent backup with your archive db with dependency to the "keep deleted items" (/mailboxes) setting on your mailbox database.
    Example:
    keep deleted items: 30 days
backup of archive db: every 14 days
    restore procedure:
    * restore archive DB content
    * add difference from recover deleted items (or Backup Exec single item recovery) for the missing 14 days.
So it depends more on your process than on a backup principle.

  • Migrated Exchange 2013 server - blocking common emails like netflix and amazon?

We were using Exchange 2010 for years, and recently I upgraded to Exchange 2013 and signed up for Exchange Online Protection over the weekend (all at the same time, upgrade, migration, sign up for EOP, etc.).  Some mail is making it through just fine,
while a lot of email is being blocked.  EOP says the email was "delivered" but MessageTracking on our exchange box says Event ID: FAIL...
I'd like to know more about the FAIL ID... how do I find out what made it fail?  I'm guessing it was a transport rule, but when I got to Mail Flow -> Rules - there is NOTHING there.
    Running "Get-TransportAgent" returns these values:
I disabled the malware agent manually on my box since I'm using the EOP stuff now... how can I see or edit the rules that are in place if they do not show up as rules in the ECP?
It's big name companies like amazon, netflix, etc that are getting blocked... I can't see a reason why they would be blocked now on a migrated server and not on my old server... Can anyone provide some insight?  I'd GREATLY appreciate it!

I would tend to agree with you that you don't need them.

  • Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.
All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.
Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?
    Thank you!
    Kim Parker-Polito / Newhall Land

    Go down to Search Folders
    - Right click on Search Folders and create New Search Folder leave default "Unread Mail1" and click OK
    - Right click on the new “Unread Mail1” folder and choose “Customize this search folder”
    - Click on Browse
    - Select the checkbox for “Search subfolders”
    - Press OK and OK again.
    - Right click on old "Unread Mail" Folder and delete.

  • What happens to email that I sent to a misspelled address example...fripol@ instead of ripol@

I have recently sent sensitive information to H&R Block.....and misspelled the address
where does that mail go...who has access to it?

That depends on the configuration of the mail server at the receiving end. Some mail servers have a 'catch all' mailbox that receives mis-addressed mail. Some will (gasp) silently drop the mail and take no action on it.
More commonly, though, is that unless you typed a real email address (i.e. "[email protected]" and "[email protected]" both exist) you should receive a bounced message indicating that the mailbox does not exist. It works much like the postal system -- you would receive a returned message indicating failure to deliver (also called a Delivery Status Notification).
You can read more about DSN (aka bounce messages) here:

  • Perhaps this is what happens to email

I seldom check my email directly in Gmail, it's forwarded directly to my Entourage and I pick it up there. Out of curiosity this morning, I went to my Gmail account and looked in the spam messages. I found seven from Apple Discussions, sent in the last three weeks, that had been dumped in the spam folder. I assumed that I get all the emails I have subscribed to, so didn't notice there were some missing.
People who are getting spotty emails should check the junk folder on the ISP's site to see if they have been getting Apple mail, and it has been labeled Junk by mistake. I'm not sure how to correct this, I did label the ones I found "not junk" and I guess I'll just have to check the box every so often to see what I've missed.

We get more complaints from our hosting customers regarding mail forwarding problems to the free e-mail services than any other single issue. My advice would be to not entrust important messages to Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.

  • What happened to eMail, can't send from "Mail"

On Tuesday at 2 o'clock every Mac in my office stopped being able to SEND email from their computer. After 7 long worthless hours with DSL, ATT and Tech 360, I still cannot SEND. We can log into the web and send and receive from there, but.....
Anyone know what is going on?

Sherry, could you be connecting/trying to send through an ISP other than AT&T?
Might need to have them open port 25...

  • What happened to Email Link in Firefox 29?

Where did "Email Link" go in Firefox 29? I used to be in the Firefox menu and I used it all the time. Now I can't find it. It's not anywhere in the new menu, atleast not that I can find. Where did this option go?

"Email Link" is available as a button in the customization palette. Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize. You should find the button in the box on the left side. It can be placed on a toolbar, or in the ≡ Menu Button panel.

  • What happened to email??

Now it always shows all folders for the account and I must specifically select the inbox each time to see my mail. How do I get it back the way it was?  Meaning, how can I get it to default to opening the inbox each time?

You're lucky then. For a split second the other day, it appeared as if I had no email accounts set up. Then a moment later they all reappeared but now behave differently and that link which said "all accounts" is gone. I did nothing, so I know I didn't change anything accidentally.

Beginning with Firefox 4, Macs must have an Intel x86 processor (which you do NOT have; yours is a PPC Mac) '''''<u>and</u>''''' OSX 10.5 or higher.

  • What happens to txts sent to me when I am away with phone off for over a week?

I went off-continent for only a week, to places where there was no verizon or CDMA coverage.
Usually when I return from having my phone off for a while, I'll get a small flood of txts from the week I was away.
I found out today a friend had txt'ed me while I was away, but I never rec'd the message, though there were others that came from later the week.
How long do txts stay floating around space until they are picked up?  Do they expire at some point?  I am wondering how many txts I might have missed.

Budone is correct - so only the most recent texts will reach you when you turn the phone back on.

  • Customise the email sent via the "Share" feature in Sharepoint 2013

We have modified a number of the alerts via the alerttemplates.xml file in the 15 hive already.
We want to modify the the email that is generated when a user in Sharepoint 2013 selects "share" on a document. We specifically want to add something to the Subject line of the email - just some text.
Can someone advise what the file name and location and the name of the AlertTemplate Name that we need to modify?
    Cheers,
    Clarky

    Hi Clarky,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to modify the subject of the email when sharing a document with a user.
When sharing a document with a user, that is granting permission to the user on the document.
This email template is located in C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\web server extensions\15\Resources\core.en-US.resx, you can open this file in notepad to edit it. But it’s not suggested to change the file, before you modify it, take
    a backup.
    Best regards.
