What is Garageband's Audio Resolution

I was recently flirting with the ideal of upgrading to either Logic Express or the full blown logic to take the step beyond garageband. The deciding factor would be if the audio resolution of garageband is less than that of logic express or logic pro.
I have a prosonus firepod that I use with garageband. Works well. However, if I am not getting the full audio resolution out of the firepod due to the lack of audio resolution in garageband then it is time for me to upgrade.
Does anyone know the audio resolution of garageband?

  • GarageBand 'audio resolution' in 'advanced' preferences

Further to my recent post re GarageBand suddenly quitting while recording a radio broadcast because 'file had exceeded 2GB limit' (or something to that effect), even though I had set it to 80 bpm which should have given me over 5hrs of recording time : nevertheless it carried on recording when I clicked the record button again.
I had selected 'Best' from the Audio Resolution drop-down menu in the GarageBand Preferences tab. Would this have any influence ? I do want the best recording I can get, to burn to CD. Is it necessary to select Audio Resolution before recording, or is it something that can be selected after recording ?
The next part of the Ring Cycle I am recording is this afternoon, so would be grateful for any solution that would prevent GarageBand unexpectedly quitting again, before then !

Built-in is the only selection because both the Internal Mic and the Line-In are "built-in". Selecting which one GB uses is done via System prefs on your computer, the person that gave you that advice was mistaken.
There is no "setting" to correct your problem, you can't do what you are trying to do:

  • How do i know what audio resolution i recorded at?

I'm not sure what audio resolution i recorded a project at and I don't think the audio resolution selection in the Preferences stays where you set it for each individual project, I believe it defaults to 'Good'.  thanks.

You could always export it ("Share") to itunes. Once in iTunes, you could Get Info (click Command I), and the Summary page will list the resolution.
(make sure to "Send your song to iTunes in its original quality" - don't compress).

My experience is that it does remember its last setting, and doesn't change until you change it.

  • What is the best audio interface to buy to record drums?

What is the best audio interface to buy to record drums?  Looking for something with 8 inputs to mic my drum kit.  Don't want to go past $1,000.  Been looking at the Presonus Firestudio and M-Audio Profire 2626, for example.  This is my first time setting up a home studio so any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

The MOTU interfaces are a good value, and as Pancenter notes, they have rock-solid drivers.  I've had good experiences with the Traveler, although I'd bypass the mic pres if possible.
And if you're able to spend a bit more, the Metric Halo 2882 also has excellent drivers and noticeably-better sound--it's my fave in the <$2k range.  If you can find a used Apogee Ensemble, that's another great-sounding interface, although it can't match the latency performance of the MOTU or Metric Halo.  So, for software instruments, the Ensemble is not a good choice, but for recording acoustic drums, a used one for $1300-1500 would be excellent.

  • What's the best audio filter and settings to eliminate echo?

I shot an interview in a hallway. What's the best audio filter and settings to reduce/eliminate echo?

There isn't one. You will be trying to remove the same frequencies as those you want to keep.
Reshoot it, strategically position some heavy drapes and use close miking such as a lav and reliable monitoring quality headphones.

  • What happened to the Audio Books option?

What happened to the "audio books" option in "music" under the "more" option on the lower left of my iPhone 4s?  I have been syncing downloaded non-iTunes audio books for years without problems - until now. I have read lots of solutions while searching for an answer and none of them have worked. Any ideas? What is Apples official response? Many seem to share this problem.

    1) To see your audiobooks in iTunes, there's a dropdown on the top left to select the Library it's displaying. Use the dropdown to select Books, and it will show them (you can choose Audiobooks, Books, PDFs, etc.)
    2) To see your audio books in the iPad/iPhone -- when you have your iDevice connected to the computer with iTunes check your sync settings to make sure they're correct for what you want to do. They may have gotten switched behind your back.
    3) iTunes match - fraid I can't help you there. My Itunes computer is still on Snow Leopard, no iCloud for me.

  • What's the Best Audio Format?

I have been recording audio tracks as aiff format.
What's the best audio format... .aiff - .wav sdII or the newer .caf?
    Considering:
    - sound quality
    - portablilty to other app's and platforms (protools - PC's etc.)
    - other stuff.....

    mp3...lol.
okay, well, it will really depend on what you're looking to interoperate with.
only logic, pt and dp support sdII...it's basically old school, and most likely on its way out.
caf is apple's new audio file format, which looks pretty intriguing. however, afaik, noone else supports it yet, and wintel machines probably never will. it's new, so i'm not sure of the ins and outs, really.
bwav is pretty much the standard on pc's now...and i think just about everything but dp supports this natively (you can import them into dp as of v5.1x, i believe. bwavs contain timestamps, so that when imported into a project, they can go where they are supposed to on the timeline.
for completely universal compatibility though, aiff is still the way to go. it is supported on both wintel and mac, and afaik, pretty much every daw can handle these.

  • Which audio resolution is good for FCPX?

Hello to all! I am doing audio work in Garage band and export it finally to be used in my projects. At present the audio resolution for export is 'better' in which setting the export is 16-bit quality. Will opting to select 'best' which gives 24-bit quality give me enhanced results? BTW, the exported audio has to pass through Mr. iTunes before it reaches FCPX, and I need to further tinker with the format while importing the song from GB into iTunes. Any guidance in this matter will be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

We have a quaint expression concerning the polishing of a turd and 24bit audio appears to fall into this category with regards to normal humans.
The general opinion appears to be that it is a waste of time unless you are a very skilled audio engineer undertaking unusual tasks.

  • For guitar, vocals, keyboard/drumpad controller, what is the best audio interface to use/record quality sound in Logic, Mainstage, Garageband, etc. (lowbudget)?

So many to choose from. im really just trying to record clean sounding electric guitar tracks now vocals in the future and keyboard/drumpad controller near future..(irrelevant but thought i should mention im in the market for a keyboard and drumpad controller combo hopefully will be usb or something) but i need a quality audio interface to use with Logic Pro 9 and all the stuff that comes with it (mainstage, etc) and also Garageband. I have heard so many different reviews about this or that but all in all i dont think i can afford an apogee except maybe the apogee One but it at 249 or whatever i feel like i could get alot more bang for my buck. Ive heard alot of good things about m-audio gear but i heard mixed reviews as well. If someone can just tell me what is the best interface in the 100-200$ range for the needs ive listed above...Any responses or advice greatly apprecitated.
    Thanks

    hi mm
there are so many different sound cards out there these days it seems - ill just say that one that i got alot of use out of was the tascam 122 (http://www.tascam.com/Products/US-122.html)
it has 2 decent phantom powered XLR inputs, some midi stuff, a place to plug a guitar into and some nice big knobs.
the next level would be something with more ins (8 or 10) and probably firewire, and also around $400 i think.
oh, and your computer should be more than sufficient to handle what you want to do.

  • What is the best audio interface to use with Garageband?

I just bought a new iMac last week.  I have several instruments I want to record using Garageband.  Is there a USB/Thunderbolt audio interface that someone recommends?  I'm looking at 4 inputs at the very least.  Thanks!

    right....
first of all do a search in this forum. This question has been asked numerous times.....
if you're still unsure then when you post again it could be an idea to tell us:
    1. kind of music you make.
    2. The number of inputs/outputs needed (e.g. are you gonna record a 6 piece band simultaneously?)
    3. Your midi needs.
    4. The number of keys you would prefer on a midi keyboard
    5. whether you would like a lot of buttons and knobs
    6. your budget!!!
otherwise i might suggest an apogee ensemble which is tres expensive - but it is one of the best interfaces for logic pro
I don't mean to rant, but the more specific info you give, the more specific info you'll get. But if you haven't even done a simple search on these forums for five minutes then why will others spend five minutes to help?
one other tip: stay clear of m-audio audio interfaces with Logic.
    Hope that helps

  • In your experience what are the best audio units to use

I hope that some of you folks are open to sharing some of your presets with others who aren't quite as good at toggling the audio unit section of garageband. I'm actually surprised that no site has sprouted up offering file downloads of presets for this section. Without the use of this section many mixes come out sound completely amateur and no better sounding than a 4-track recording vocals on a busy noisy sidewalk. For example I use the augraphiceq but it has no presets, which *****. I understand every voice has its own settings needs in editing or mastering, I just wish garageband offered a wide range of popular presets.
So let me get to what I am in need of from you wise fellow apple seeds, what au's do you use for hip hop vocals/ rock vocals/ or any genre you record. The master presets section do you use any? If so what do you use?
Can you detail your setting so I can create a duplicate to use myself ?
    Thank you

  • What is the best display resolution setting for Macbook Pro retina display for photography?

Display resolution settings are somewhat criptic. I want maximal resolution for editing photos. Which one should I choose?

Not sure what you mean by "attachment" -
The question was about a player/recorder, also known as a burner when used with a computer. Any burner will also function as a player with a computer (as in "read and write") - just attach the drive and insert a CD or DVD. iTunes will however, most likjely, attempt to immediately import the song - that is its default behavior. I have other audio software, so I can bypass iTunes as I don't care to use it. And this is what I am referring to:
