What is going on?! Audio track missing!

I have a bunch of videos that were originally taken on apple devices, uploaded and redownloaded from youtube as MP4's. Some of them work just fine, however some of them are doing something really weird. When i drag the file in, only the video track appears. There is no audio track, however I still hear the sound! Here is a video that shows what is happening. Any insight would be welcome!

  • Audio tracks missing in the timeline viewer

    Hello,
I am using Imovie 4.0.1 and have been working on a project for several months and now towards the homestretch, I have lost the ability to see the audio tracks that I added to the project. I am referring to the 2nd and 3rd tracks on the timeline viewer. This isn't a killer as I have completed all of my editing and am ready to export it to my camera (to then reimport, seperate audio, and then lock--to make sure audio and video matches up) The problem is that when I export to the camera, the audio comes and goes, and some of the video stutters at times. It seems that this all might be related. Has my imovie become corrupted? All of the projects that I have worked on in the past--that are still on this computer--exhibit the same thing i.e. I can't see the audio tracks and the editing arrows (and other items) have disappeared from underneath the viewing area.
    I would appreciate any help.

com.apple.imovie3.plist is what you should have found because you are using imovie 4.
And, a new .plist should have been made by imovie when you re-launched it-so that's OK.
Sounds like you have enough HD space...are you sure you are using the Timeline viewer and not the Clip viewer?
The Clip viewer looks like this:
And the Timeline viewer looks like this:
(But these are screen shots from imovie 5 so don't let that confuse you).

  • Audio tracks missing when doing automate to sequence.

Using PMW200 with 4 audio tracks. When dragging single file to timeline I get the 4 audio tracks. But when I do an automate to sequence, I only get 1 audio track, plus, the default audio transition is not going on.
I have all the tracks highlighted and have ticked apply audio and video transitions.
Any idea where I'm going wrong? Thanks
    Mike Ward

Hi Kevin.  I uploaded a clip onto you tube for you to try, but you tube mixed the audio tracks so it was useless.
Basically, drag any video clip with 4 audio tracks recorded from camera onto timeline in cs6, and all audio tracks appear on the timeline.  But automate several similar tracks to timeline and only one audio track gets added.  The other 3 do not appear.  Is there a work around for this, rather than dragging all on one at a time.
    Thanks

  • Audio tracks missing from footage

I was working on a project in the trial version using some footage I shot, and after I switched over to the full version, the audio tracks had completely disappeared. Moreover, much of the footage is listed as 'media offline' in the project itself, but when I reinsert the footage in a new project, it works just fine (except for the audio).
    Please help!

  • What's the most audio tracks anyone's running happily?

    Hi all
    I've just re-titled a question I posted this morning :-
Has anyone ANY idea how high we can fly with numbers of audio tracks on 8 core 3 gig with 10 gig of ram? (my spec below)
I expect it's down to hard drive speed (my audio drive is 7200rpm)but I'm about to mix a huge number of stems ..... all made up of 5.1 interleaved files and I'm also using some Kontakt3 & PLAY sample stuff on another drive?
Anyone got any idea how many "ish" are comforably achievable?
I'm looking at using in excess of 12 x 5.1 interleaved on some passes (that's 70 audio tracks) ..... should that still be small fry?
Anyone got any guiding lights of experience?
    Many thanks
    Dick

This is really interesting. I've naively been using 256 the whole time. Just finishing a movie score in 5.1 (for the first time away from Logic /TDM combination) ...... and couldn't understand why the PLAY french horns sounded like they'd been badly pitch changed when I added some HD space designer reverb ..... is could that also be a symptom of wrongly set i/o buffer?
I've never worked with Logic and TDM before, so I don't know if that had any bearing on that. I have never heard pitch problems occur due to a low buffer setting, although anythings possible in this world we work in. That sounds more like a sample rate issue to me.
    dick the flick wrote:
So dropping everything onto audio also helps. Is that even the case with 10 gig of RAM available? The manual seems to suggest that this buffer is taken outside of Logic's RAM.
Logic can only access 3 to 4 gigs of RAM, total ( I don't know the exact amount... anyone?) You would have to be using PLAY (or other 3rd party inst) as stand alone apps, and pumping the audio back into Logic, to be taking advantage of all that extra RAM you have.
A couple stereo audio files will use WAY less CPU usage than an instance of PLAY loaded with a few sounds. Plus, it's a good healthy practice to get into for archiving. You don't want to go and open this song in 3 years, and find you can't access the PLAY instrument, because the last version made before East West was bought out by Microsoft is no Longer compatible with Logic's latest version... which will probably be 8.1 by then. I'm just saying...

I've had the pleasure of working with Al a couple of times. I don't get star struck, living here, because I run into famous people frequently. But legendary session musicians, I turn into a babbling idiot...

.... if running lots of audio with huge track counts ..... set the buffer higher but don't necessarily use the plugin samplers live?
That would be my advice, for sure. I tend to export my software instruments as soon as I know I will no longer be needing to change them in any way. I will export the audio instrument track, save the instrument into a "Presets" folder within the song folder, then remove the instrument, and simply hide the MIDI track. If for any reason, I find I do need to change something, it's easy enough to get back.

  • Audio track missing on timeline when I insert clip from source monitor

I have the following problem with PP CS6: my media contains two alternate mono tracks (one with the signal boosted as an insurance) and I have PP set up to treat them as two mono tracks, rather than one stereo track. Everything works fine when I drag media directly to the timeline from the project panel. But when I use the source monitor to select in and out points, and then insert the chosen clip into the timeline, only one of the two audio tracks appears on the timeline. Can anyone please explain how to make sure I get both tracks on the timeline via this route?
    Thanks
    DM

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for replying. Unfortunately this doesn't apply to my case. I've set PP's default behaviour to import as dual mono in Edit\Preferences\Audio. This allows me to drag media from the project panel to the timeline and get two sediscrete mono channels. My problem is that when I go the source monitor route, any clip that I insert does not display two audio tracks on the timeline, just one. I have discovered I can switch the source channel from left to right, which to all intents and purposes fixes my problem, but I would like to maintain the option of getting both channels displayed separately on the timeline if possible.
    Thanks

  • Stereo audio tracks missing - have mono track only

After recently downloading DV footage, I find that there is only a "mono" channel shown on the timeline. Several subsequent "test" takes and downloads continue to produce only the mono channel. Imported "aiff" files appear in timeline with stereo tracks, but material from my DV camera continues to only contain a single mono track. (All settings on camera have been checked and re-checked and appear OK)
Is there some setting in FCE HD that needs to be re-set? If so, where is it??
    Any input/advice will be appreciated.

"Mayday, Mayday" ! I've had my camcorder bench-checked for the stereo audio signals (it's operating fine), replaced the firewire cable between the camcorder and the iMac, and reloaded FCE HD. Test clips still show only a "mono" channel for audio - no stereo audio. Test clips made with a different camcorder produced the same results (mono channel only)
After downloading yet another test clip, the FCE HD software responds with the following message:
"The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape"
Is this why I am only seeing one (mono) audio channel ? Can anyone tell me what this means and how I should fix it ?

  • Video clip goes to different Timeline Video/Audio tracks

    Premiere Pro CS5
When I move a clip to Timeline Video Track 1 the audio goes to Audio Track 4.
    What might be happening?
I recorded the clip with Sony HDR CX560V
And I chose sequence preset AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)  (I did this because Sony PMB shows the clip with a frame rate of 60i)

    Thank you guys!!!
One other question.  If I add background music to my clip does it matter if it's stereo and falls into a lower track?  That is:
clip video = video track 1
clip audio = audio track 4
    music = audio track 1
(By the way Ann, the guy on the link you sent me is awesome.  Very clear explanation and right to the point.)

The missing Albums may be ones where the Artist is not listed as also being the Album Artist in the tag.  Try going to Settings>Music and turn Group By Album Artist to Off.  See if the missing albums now show in the Artist view.  If so, you can either leave the setting this way, or if you prefer it to be on, go to iTunes on your computer and put the correct name in the Album Artist field of the tag (on the Info tab of the tab) for the albums in question and sync your phone.

  • Audio track problems.

A new user of Premiere Elements 8.  I imported a 50 minute, home-made video from a DVD (originally shot on analog tape) into the program.  The trouble is that the audio track sometimes plays, most often does not.  The visible waveform sometimes appears, sometimes not.  Then again, sometimes the sound will play with the waveform visible, but often it does not.  I can't depend on the audio track to play, and so I cannot edit the thing without it being present.  The computer has 4 GB of memory, Quad-core 2.7 GB processor,  NVidia GeForce 9400 GT Video Card - 512MB DDR2.
What would cause the audio track to intermittently drop out and reappear, along with the visual of the waveform?

    Bill,
What I ultimately ended up doing was to take the clip in question (this time in .AVI format, converted from the original .VOB) and convert it into an .MV4 clip.  I imported this into the existing .PREL file and the audio worked fine, along with displaying the waveform.  I don't know why the original .VOB clip didn't work, even after conversion to .AVI, but there was something about it that the program didn't like.
Thanks for your continued advice and suggestions, and also for your comments about converting analog VHS files into digital AVIs.  I'm looking into getting one of those Canopus ADVC 300 units that you speak highly of.   If I convert a VHS into an .AVI file through this device and burn it to DVD using Premier Elements 8, will the disk have the same video/audio quality that I get from digitizing a VHS tape through my Panasonic DVR E-85H and editing it on the hard disk in this unit, then burning it to DVD?

  • CS3: Audio will only go to audio track 4, 5, 6, etc.

    Hello,
I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and when I bring in a video and then put it in the timeline the audio automatically goes to audio track 4. And if there's like two audio tracks it goes to 4 and 5. I've tried to manually bring the audio up to track 1, 2, or 3 and it just wont. Everything is fine except for that it is just very annoying, I can work around it and I have been for a few weeks now but I have just finally had enough. H
Has this ever happened to anyone else? Have I accidently changed some setting somewhere? How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Nicholas

By default your sequence has three stereo tracks. You probably import mono tracks, that are automatically added after the stereo tracks, hence track 4, 5, etc. Mono can only go to a mono track, stereo only to a stereo track and 5.1 only to a 5.1 track. Check the speaker icon on the left hand side of the audio track. It makes no difference, but you can delete the stereo tracks if they are empty and thus move the mono tracks up in the visual representation.

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.

  • Missing Audio track controls (fader, solo, mute, sends, inserts etc...)

After doing a "save as project" I ended up with 2 big problems. When I pull the song off the CDR and open it up on my computer the controls for some audio tracks are missing. I lose anything having to do with track control such as input, output, fade, solo, pan, inserts, buses, mute, record. The only thing i can see is the group assignment and automation pull down menus. The other problem i have is that i have to manually relink all the audio files. Why can't the session file find the audio files??? They are all in the audio files folder right next to the session file. Arg. i am running logic pro 7 and the computer that the "save project" was completed on is running logic 6 express 6.4.0.

I'll take a stab at it.
Sounds like your parameters are not viewed. In the arrange window menus - there should be a view menu and it allows you select what things to see for each track.
Maybe view parameters or view channel strip only settings may help.
Not sitting in front of Logic at the moment.
May have something to do with goign from L6 to L7,but i'm only guessing on that one.
    hope this helps

  • H.264 export, randomly missing audio tracks

Came across a strange issue when exporting a 1080p timeline using the H.264 export option.  The first export had some strange video flickering issue, but the audio was fine.  So I re-exported and switched to CBR instead of 2 pass VBR.  On the 2nd export, the footage looked fine but for some reason tracks 3 and 4 which contained background audio, were not in the exported file, just silence.  The thing that concerns me is the only encoding option I changed was the bitrate, and going from VBR to CBR, everything else stayed the same in the 2 exports.  I have no idea why Premiere would mysteriously drop 2 of my audio tracks.  Has this happened to anyone else?  This problem has happened to me before, both with the flickering and missing audio.  I've tried the usual updating to current version of Premiere, clearing preferences, etc. and still running into this.

I work in Broadcasting and we use Quicktime HD 1080i h264 with no problems. Plus the file sizes are just amazing (Less than 100mg for a 30 seconds)

  • CS4 What stops audio from being moved to some audio tracks?

I find in some cases a snippet of audio that would fit easily into what at least appears to be empty track above it, will not go there.  Instead what looks something like the little magnet icons... (only verticle) .. appears at the cursor and the audio will not be moved up.
I'm trying to conserve tracks a bit since I've hogged up 5 audio and 3 video.   I don't like having some stuff out of site while editing if possible nor do I like making the stuff above the timeline so tiny or buried.  I'd like to use what appears to be empty audio track where possible
Is there a setting the will allow me to move audio as I please?

Ahh, that it explains it then... thanks
    Harry,
Those Audio Track type/Audio file type mis-matches have tripped up many.
Management of Tracks, both Video and Audio, can be a bit of alchemy, and a bit of art. One can do a lot about locating them, but one feature that PrPro does not yet have is Track dragging.
There is a thread from about 6 mos. back that goes into some of the details of Track management. Throughout that thread, there are complaints about no Track-dragging, but if you ignore those, one can get the step-by-step on doing it "the PrPro way." If I can find it, I'll link to it.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
