What is Iweb 09 NOT capable of?

Just curious, In my previous business, I paid to have my website created. Nothing special, some java and basic submission forms, pic galleries, calendars,etc.
Now im starting a new business and am curious if I can accomplish everything I want by doing it myself with Iweb or should I be aware of any limitations with iweb09 that could possibly cause me problems later. From initial research, it looks like I can blog, have ecommerce stores, paypal links, etc, either from iweb or by embedding links to 3rd party apps.
I guess what Im saying is that is it possible to create a PROFESSIONAL (not a hobby or personal) website using iweb09? does anyone have any links of iweb created sites that standout?

Depending on how much time you have, you could always try hand coding your own site! Big learning curve though.
I created my business site in iWeb, which I have optimised using Web Site Maestro. I have added Google Analytics using the iWeb SEO tool and have uploaded to an external server using ftp - it works well and I now gets lots more hits on the site due to the Google Analytics.
I have just started hand coding a new site with the help of a couple of good books on HTML and CSS, using TextWrangler. Doing this has made me see that perhaps iWeb uses a lot of extra code that does not really need to be there.
So far, I have created about 4 pages and have added CSS - so you create one style sheet and place a link in all the other pages, so when you want to change styles, you only need to do this once in a style sheet for the whole site.
It does take time, but it is fun and perhaps I might even learn some javascript so that I can make it more dynamic after getting the html and CSS coding right.

There's no reason you can't go on using iWeb for this - with iWeb '08 you have to publish to a local folder (i.e. on your Mac) and then upload the contents of the folder (not the folder itself) to your hosting service: and you have to make sure you enter the new URL in the Publish information or the feed won't work properly; this done, an iWeb podcast should work fine.
Of course there is still the problem that iWeb is not supported and sooner or later a system upgrade may break it. You could look at RapidWeaver: you can make podcasts with that, though the last time I looked into that - which was admittedly some time back - I didn't feel it was ideal for this. There are lots of other podcast creation programs or services around. WordPress is OK but it may be a bit of a steep learning curve: Libsyn is an online service that seems to work reliably. Blogger writes messy feeds but does usually work. Podcast Maker used to work well - I used it myself a few years back - but it rather looks as if it's gone moribund and it may not be reliable with Lion/Mountain Lion, so you would want to check into that.

Error message "the document iweb could not be saved"

Help! I made a few small updates to my already published web site and now when I go to save or publish it I get the message "The document iWeb could not be saved". I have made changes in the past with no issues.... why now and what is the problem?

Sounds like something to suggest to Apple. But even if Apple does implement something like this, it doesn't take away the ulitimate responsibility of backing up from the end user. I think Apple has a ways to go in terms of making the Domain file more apparent and visible so that the end user understands that THIS is the file to backup!

Delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder. Then launch iWeb and see if it opens.
What happened was trying to open the html file reset the file path that iWeb saves in its preference file to tell it where to go when you launch iWeb. Deleting the pref file and launching iWeb creates a new file and iWeb looks in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for the Domain.sites2 file it uses to create your site.

Version 2.0.4 is iWeb 08 and direct publishing via ftp is not available in iWeb 08 and never has been. You have the option of publishing to MobileMe, but you can publish via ftp, but you need to select the option publish to a local folder instead and then upload using Cyberduck, which is a free and dedicated ftp client.
If you want the inbuilt ftp function, then you will need to upgrade your iLife package to either iLife 09 which contains iWeb 09 or iLife 11, which also contains iWeb 09. For this, you need to purchase both of these packages. Either go to Amazon and try and get a copy of iLife 09 more cheaply or purchase iLife 11 directly from the Apple store.
This is what you will need to do and iWeb 08, which is the version you have, never has had built in ftp so that option will never be available to you unless you upgrade which you will have to pay for. Upgraded and updates are different things. Updates are just your normal run of the mill software updates and address bug fixes etc., whereas you will need to pay for full upgrades to other packages such as from iLife 08 to iLife 09 or 11.

IWeb will NOT talk to GO DADDY!

I created a new web site using iweb, everything looks fine. I did this so I could manage and quickly change my videos/pics when I wanted.
BUT naturally, it does NOT want to connect to my host (GO DADDY). GD says everything is fine on there end, but iWeb will not post correctly to the root directory. It made another directory and started posting there. My web site still looks like the old one and I can't over ride it with the new iweb look. HELP!

iWeb seems to do that. I haven't found a way to get around it. I'm having what may be a related problem -- I wanted to use a different template, so rather than re-do my existing site, I created a new site with the new template & uploaded it to the GoDaddy server.
Boy did THAT screw things up! In the browser, it would load up each page ONCE, then I couldn't get the server to respond, even by hitting back button. So I deleted the newer site from iWeb, deleted all files on the GoDaddy server using an FTP program & re-uploaded the original site.
Same issue. Now the original version loads each page once -- trying to navigate to the different pages via the menu or the back button just gives a server isn't responding message.
I think this is a variant of the problem you're having. It will be interesting to see if someone can figure this out.

Webi Error - Driver not capable

Hello,
One of our users is getting "Driver not capable" error on 1 webi report, but can run another without the error. These 2 reports come off seperate BEx querier.
We have BO SP2 FP2.5.
SAP authentication is set on BO server and roles are imported.
All the universe connections are set to SSO.
BEx does not have any authorization variable.
There are some prompts created in the universe.
Any resolutions?

The user gets the error while refreshing the webi report, after answering the prompts.
What do you mean by customized? I have created a couple of prompts in the universe.
I isolated the error to 1 objects "calendar day". if I have the object in my Webi query, the user gets the error. If I remove it from the webi query, the user can refresh the report without error.
BTW, the BEx query runs fine for the users with calander day.
We have another user getting the same error on 3 other reports. But none of them use calander day.

IWeb is not working!!!!!

My iWeb is not working right!!! All the widgets (exept for iPhoto and iMovie) do not work, every time a place the widget it just shows a selection square were the widget should be. The same thing happends when I chose to show the navigation on the top of the page, just a blank box. I have already called the apple support and tried many different things, like uninstalling iWeb and nothing changed then he took me thought endless steps for hours and nothing. I also went to an apple store and no one there new how to fix it ether. I need this fixed NOW!!!

I would go to an apple store and talk to someone face to face but the closest one is over 800 miles away. I tried to talk to someone in an apple store wile I was on vacation but that did not have room for me. But I did get a chance to talk to a sales man and he didn't know jack.
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled with the application disk and it did not do anything. I have also tried accessing the widgets on another account and I have the same problem. I could try the download though, that might just work.
I have also had the problem of, when I make a 'blog' the box that should have the blog excerpts Is also blank and I can't even double click it, and when I do it just does what everything else does and shows a blue outline around the box and nothing else.
I wish someone knew something about this problem!

IWeb update not on my computer?

I added a scrolling text marquee to my website home page using iWeb, it publishes ok. But when I open the website in Safari it doesn't display the marquee, there is a blank space where the marquee should be. When I open the website in Firefox, the marquee displays perfectly. It also displays on my other Macbook using Safari and my friends Macbook Pro using Safari. Can you help me?

Once the pages are published, iWeb's job is done.
So do not think, mention or use iWeb but focus on the real problem.
The page displays fine in Safari on one computer and doesn't display well in Safari on another computer.
Start by comparing what you have installed.
What version do you use?
What extensions have you installed?
Check that.
And since these scrolling text are pasted in a HTML snippet, iWeb is not involved either. It's custom code, and iWeb does not care about it.
Open the widget-markup file in a browser window and see if the text displays there.
BTW, the scrolling text display fine in Safari on my iPad.

IWeb is not in Application Support Folder. Why? Help!!

I can't figure out how to backup iWeb files to a CD/DVD. I have read everything on the web. It sound like I need to go to my library/application support and find iWeb, then back up "domain.sites".
The big problem with that: iWEB IS NOT IN MY APPLICATION SUPPORT FOLDER.
I've seen other people post with this problem, but no solutions.

I've been using iWeb forever. Got iLife 08 this fall. Have successfully published a complex web site and had it up and running for months now. I needed to know how to save a copy for backup...because I just should and because there's another long story problem....but I can't find how to save. Everything I read related to what you are suggesting, but that iWeb file/domain file is nowhere to be found. How can this be?

Hello everyone, first i wanna tell you that I love your CR4E product! You did an awesome job! Now, I am having a problem with creating a report using DB2 data. I have a ODBC connection, and I successfully connect to DB2. I can see all the tables; however, when I try to see sample data from a table i get java.sql.SQLException: General error message.Also, if I try to drag a table to a report it gives me CLI0150E Driver not capable. SQLSTATE=S1C00 error. I have downloaded new DB2 drivers, and when i create a new Data connection I pick db2jcc.jar file.I really dont know what the problem is.Please help.thanks, nn 

Hi, you mention that you have an ODBC connection, but you also talk about connecting to the db2jcc.jar, can you provide me with some more details regarding what your database connection string looks like in the Database Explorer view? Are you connecting to the ODBC DSN using the JDBC driver or connecting directly to the DB2 server? We have tested the DB2 connections with CR4E so it should work without too many issues. Unfortunately, I do not have a DB2 server installed on my machine and I am on the road this week so I cannot test this at this time. However, I will give this a try when I get in next week against our test database servers and let you know the connection details that we used for our testing. In the meantime any more detail you can give me on exactly how you are setting up your connection will be useful. New Prob: I have split all my sites onto new sites and everything has worked fine for two years now, Then I tried to add a site with old family movies which has film from the first races in Watkins Glen, really cool stuff my Grand Dad Lou Teemley took. Any way I had some music on there from my I tunes.
Then I tried to publish and I got the old error message, not connected to the internet etc...
So I made a new site and put the films on their on site etc... still will not publish and now my main site can not be found and I can not publish that site either. What Gives???? Thanks

You might try a different way of adding the video files to the web page. This demo page has one where the file does not load until the play button is selected: Opening Item in a New, Precisely Sized Window. This demo page has 9 short videos on it using that method: PhotoPresenter Animated Slideshow Themes. Just add a screenshot of one of the movie frames or any photo you want and add the Play button on or below it.
You manually upload the movie file to your server so iWeb is not involved in the uploading the file at any time.
Similarly this demo page, QT movies via iFrame, has a method that has you manually uploading the file to the server and linking to it via iFrame code. That page also has other similar methods.
Another method is demonstrated in Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site on his Video page. Here you also upload manually.
