What is MDG

Hi Experts ,
What is basically MDG ?
S\hall anybody explain the difference between Master Data Governance and Master Data Management in general and with respect to SAP MDM and SAP MDG ?
Your inputs are highly appreciable .
Regards,

Hi Raghvendra,
SAP NetWeaver MDM :
MDM provides a trusted, consistent view of key information assets across the enterprise – ranging from "customers", "products", and "suppliers" to "locations" and more. In large corporations, MDM is becoming a business transformation strategy as the cornerstone of every critical business process and business decision.
SAP Master Data Governance(MDG):
SAP Master Data Governance (SAP MDG) is arguably the first-to-market integrated and active data governance application
-- via its governance capabilities for creation, maintenance and replication of master data "upfront" (upstream) of line-of-business applications. Specifically, SAP MDG provides out-of-the-box, domain-specific master data governance to centrally create, change and distribute master data across your entire landscape -- with a focus on the SAP Business Suite. In other words, SAP MDG is an MDM application purpose-built and natively integrated with key SAP solutions, while SAP NetWeaver MDM is an infrastructure variation that requires additional customization to enable such central governance.

  • MDG-F Replication Timing

I am confused by the parameters (options) used in Edition and Change Request.
During Edition creation, there are three options we can pick and use to control as to when we want replication to occur.
option 1 - Manaully started after release of Edition
option 2 - On final approval of change request.
option 3 - Selected in each change request
However, during Change Request creation, it has only two option 1 and 2. Option 3 is not included there.
Then my question is - What option MDG-F will really go if I choose option 2 in Edition and choose option 1 in Change Request?
Would there be any document that shows the difference across these 3 options and configuration steps of each option?
    Thanks,
    LUO

    Hi Luo,
it is correct that there are three options while definining the edition. The part you miss is that the option you select for your edition surely has some impacts on the change request. This is best explained with some examples:
Edition A defines option 1 - manually start after release of edition.  Each CR that you create for this edition will use exactly this option. In other words, the related selection field of the replication will be read-only. You cannot distribute the data immediately after the release of the CR.
Edition B defines option 2 - on finall approval of CR. Each CR that you create for this edition exactly use this option. In other words, the related selection field of the replication will be read-only. You will always distribute the data immediately after the release of the CR.
Edition C defines option 3 - selected in each CR. Each CR that you create in this edition will have an enabled replication timing field. You can decide on the level of the CR, if you want to replicate the data of the CR immediately or after the release of the edition.

  • MDM Vs MDG

    Hi all,
    Could anyone pls explain
compare MDM Vs MDG(Master data governance)
    what is MDG
Any links to get more info on MDG, any docs?
    Rgds,
    Venu.

SAP MDM (Master Data Management) and SAP MDG (Master Data Governance)
In most businesses benefits can be acquired in the area of master data. An efficient master data maintenance, which is implemented across systems and applications, avoids conflicts and reduces costs.
For an area-wide generation of consistent master data, which is comprehensive and valid along the supply chains, SAP provides the Master Data Management (MDM) and Master Data Governance (MDG) tools.
Initially the approach of Master Data Management (MDM) and Master Data Governance (MDG) is similar.
The master data of individual systems are consolidated with the SAP Business Objects Data Services and a keymapping is established. In the latter the master data and the respective source system are listed in a table. Same master data from different systems is provided with a global ID in order to combine them.
The difference between Master Data Management (MDM) and Master Data Governance (MDG) lies in the distribution of data.
Master Data Management (MDM): In the MDM solution the master data is directly distributed to the ERP systems via the Process Integration (PI). Master data changes are purely undertaken from the MDM and updated in the ERP system from there.
Master Data Governance (MDG): In the MDG data circulates in a circuit. The data comes from the ERP system and is adjusted and consolidated with the MDG. The addition and change of data takes place purely here and is still distributed via the Process Integration (PI).
Which of those solutions is better suited for individual business applications depends on technical and process oriented criteria.
MDM uses own flexible data models and is basically usable for all master data objects, whether or not they are coming from SAP system environments.
MDG allows a centralized master data management within the SAP Business Suite and uses ERP data models (prerequisite is the application of ERP 6.0 and the enhancement package 5). Those master data management tools are preferable when SAP uses ERP as master data server and proprietary development is integrated

  • What are the roles & responsibilities of SAP MDG Functional Consultant?

    Dear experts,
Please explain What are the roles & responsibilities of SAP MDG Functional Consultant?
    Regards
    Adhi,

    Hello Adhi
There is no limit to explore in MDG. As a functional consultant you are responsible for -
    1. Defining scope of MDG
    2. Set up governance process - Workflow
    3. Configuration - MDG (Activate services - functions / role set up / Data modelling / process modelling / replication set up ) - You have to involve in each of these activities with technical. You can also do it on your own.
    4. Testing - end to end testing and training
    5. Cut over activities - data load etc
In these areas, you have to contribute 100% and work with entire team (tech) for set up.
As mention, you can explore a lot in MDG.

  • Questions on MDG

My question is on MDG -
Is the standard data model for GL account, profit center already configured in the package? As in SAP MDM there are standard data models (sca files) which we can import, is it something similar in there?
Second question is - When the vendor gets accessed through portal in MDG, can a user enter in ECC and access the same vendor? I mean does it get locked for other users to access the same vendor in ECC?
    Thanks,
    Indraveer

    Hi folks
    I have following queriers:
    1. When MDM is in Scope, How feasible is to opt MDG also.I mean what points we can raise so as to convience the client that we wud also need MDG.
2.How is MDG different in Standalone or with ECC Suite.
    3. If both are in scope How is the integration between MDM and MDG happens.

  • Group Accounts in MDG-F

What is correct way to handle Group account in MDG-F in MDG 6.0? We have an operating CoA and Group CoA, if I try to create an account in operating CoA, The MDG chnage request processing requires a value for Group Account. I created a account in Group CoA and tries referencing in operating CoA but it doesnt work as in data model this group account value is being referenced by FS Item entity type.
Should Group CoA be managed as FS  Item? Is there any other way than using FS Item. It seems that if I use FS Item it will require FSI, FSIT & FSIH entity types to be added to edition type as well as chnage request.
Is it possible to replicate FS Item to Group CoA in ECC?
Any expereince in handling such situation?

    Hello Zorawar
The process of creating group account in MDG is different. Since the group account is mapped in GL, you have use FSI entity type for creating group account. Then you can use the same group account and map it in operating GL - ACCOUNT entity type.
Now when you create a group account as FSI entity type, there are various fields which are really not required. Inform your business about it. You have to add FSI / FSIT and H in your entity type / edition as it is must but don't fill up values. You may get error but just proceed further. Ignore this error.
Regarding your question on replication - FSI won't get replicated as group account. So what we did is, we have created FSI as well as ACCOUNT for the same group account. Create both in one change request. Your account will get replicated and not FSI.
Try this approach and let me know. As this worked in our case since there was no option. You have to create the same account 2 times using FSI and ACCOUNT entity type,
    Kiran

  • Questions in MDG

    Hi
I have few questions. Please find them below.
    1) What is the use of Active area while created a data model . For example it is partner for BP.
    2) what is qualifying, Leading and referencing relationship.
    3) what is the role of business objects in MDG.
    4) How do i get what is the purpose of paramters like process, CREQUEST ect . Where can i get more detail for this.
Also please provide any material to get basic information.

These are very basic MDG concepts. You should consider taking MDG training. Any way, to answer your questions quickly:
    1) Active area contains data that is ready for transactional use.
    2) Leading is just like a key field foreign key to a master record; qualifying is like a key field foreign key to a check table; and referencing is a regular field foreign key to a check table.
    3) what do you mean by business objects here? do you mean the workflow BOR BUS2250? if so, the main reason behind this object is to integrate MDG into the workflow engine.
    4) parameters of what? the WDA application? if so, these parameters will be used when displaying an MDG CR. so, if you pass a CREQUEST, that specific CR will be displayed, etc.

  • MDG BP(role=Customer) vs MDG Customer

    Hi All,
As I understand, using the Supplier MDG,it can  create a BP either as a Vendor or a Customer depending on the Supplier role chosen.
When EHP6 MDG comes with a Customer object, what will be the overlap between MDG-Supplier(role=Customer) vs MDG-Customer.
    My questions:
    (1) I am unable to understand the difference between creating a customer only and creating a customer via a BP(using BP-Customer CVI Integration)
    (2) If I can create BP as a customer in the SAP provided MDG-Supplier package(ERP6 EHP5) ,why its always referred to as Supplier in SAP documentation.
    Regards,
    Premjit

    Hi Premjit,
First, if you use MDG, you'll always create a business partner record (table BUT000) on your MDG hub. If CVI is active and you've chosen the appropriate BP roles for creating a customer and/or supplier, the system creates entries in the ERP specific customer (KNA1) and/or supplier (LFA1, LFB1, LFM1) tables, too. So you're right, choosing the customer role in MDG Supplier in EhP5 can create a customer record via CVI, too. But there are some impacts if you do this that you should keep in mind:
    1) Checks
EhP5 does not yet support the checks for the Customer (e.g. required fields and so on). This can cause some trouble when CVI tries to save the data. Saving a customer might fail due to invalid data!
    2) Data Maintenance
You cannot maintain customer specific data in EhP5. The out-of-the-box UI supports supplier specific fields (general data, company codes, purchasing organization) only. This features comes for the customer with EhP6 in a customer specific UI.
The data that a customer would receive in EhP5 is the common data that customers and suppliers share with the Business Partner (addresses, bank details, and so on). Customer specifics like general data, company codes, sales orgs, cannot be maintained in MDG EhP5 (without custom enhancements).
    Best regards
    Michael

  • MDG-S BP Grouping,BP Role,BP Categeory and ERP Vendoe Account Group

    Hi
Can anybody explains me releationship between MDG-S BP Grouping,BP Role,BP Categeory and ERP Vendoe Account Group?
It seems there is no requried field except Change Request Description. If we input value for CR Description only, we can still able to sumbit and activate CR and Bussiner Partner ID (Which is internally generated) will be stored in MDG stagging table for entity type BP_HEADER.
My question is then what is use of BP Grouping,BP role in this as it contains blank value? Also it observed that for new ERP Vendor the Account Group field is always in non editable mode,Any reason for this? Same issue with Company Code after selecting CC it displayed as non editable field before submitting CR as well.

    Hi Sanjay,
When you select New -> Organization, below screen comes, In Grouping drop down you need to select Vendor Account Group and in Role list enter role.
Follow same procedure when you want to create next vendor.
Under new pushbutton, you will get three options:
Organization means when you want to create vendor.
Person means you are creating person not vendor, these person you can assign as a contact person to the vendor in Relationship tab.

  • Integrating MDG in Financial Self Service for Asset Master Data creation in CRM portal

    Hello Experts,
I have a requirement in CRM box.
If we navigate to SAP menu we have Self Service -> Financial Internal Self Services.
Then a portal page will open in browser. There we have link Master Data Services.
In that link we have standard sublinks for some financial master data creation.
This is coming from LPD_CUST(Launchpad Customizing) -> FINISS. In this Master Data Services we have to create new link for "Create Asset".
We can't go for Transactional iView. We have to choose Application Type as Web Dynpro ABAP only as present in standard links.
And in the Application USMD_ENTITY_VALUE2 should be present as generic UI component.
But after that what needs to be done for asset I am not getting. We have to do some config for component for web dynpro component, entity types, UIBB etc. InSPRO also, Cross-Application components ->Process and tools for Enterprise Applications -> MDG -> General Settings also we have to do something. I have collected info in isolated way.
How to approach for this. Please suggest.

  • MDG - S Workflow issue

    Hi,
I have configured the MDG for Supplier where I am using the standard workflow template for Supplier Create - WS53100044.
I have a couple of questions here where I need your expert help.
1.I create a CR, it goes for approval. When I run validation it starts asynchronously. Any idea why this is happening? Though there are no validation errors.
    2. I can also approve the CR. If I have Company Code and Purchasing Org data in it then it needs processing but the workflow log says 'No Processor assigned'.
    3. If I do not have these information fed in the CR, the workflow gets approved and the next step is 'Decision on Process Contact person'. Here it looks for a reference BP. I do not get the list of BPs to select from. Please advise what is missing.
    Thank you in advance..
    Regards,
    Jayati

    Hello Jayati
your validation will always start Asynchronously as it is native feature within MDG. So no issues about it. The good part is you are not getting any validation error.
Since you using standard workflow template, try using other MDG workflow for the Processor assignment. Check the step number under "Define Workflow Step Numbers" step and then check if the correct processor is assigned there. More details can be found if you see the workflow log of your change request.
Regarding the BP issue, try completing the configurations suggested in MDGIMG under Master Data Governance for Supplier --> Set up Business Partner.
    Hope this helps you.
    thanks

  • MDM to MDG - Configuration Migration

    Hi,
If an enterprise was using SAP MDM and it has there configurations, workflows, data models, forms, ... etc and it is planning to implement MDG 7.0 soon. How can it benefit from the earlier implementation of MDM ? Technically, what parts, objects can be migrated from MDM to MDG ?
    Appreciate any insight or guidance.

The main thing you will benefit from is the documentation. Other than that, you will need to implement everything from scratch as MDM and MDG use two different technologies.

  • MDG-F: Error when opening the Change Request

    Hi MDG Experts
In MDG-Finance, when i'm opening the Change Request (CR Type: 0G_S002), to "finalize processing", i get this error message: "Object ID 060822EA65231EE3A7DB2A05A0AB8E61 is not valid". As a result the single processing option does not pull the master record that was added in the Create Change Request option for submitting for approval.
I'm not sure what this error is and how to resolve it.
    Seeking your help.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kiran
Thanks for your prompt response. The entity search option that you mentions works successfully.
However, in case of manual replication, i'm still facing a challenge.
After executing the Manual replication option, the data isn't getting replicated to back-end ECC. Infact, in DRFLOG, the log is all green for "Process Outbound implementation GL Master Idoc (1012)".
Am i missing something here ?
