What is my recourse?

We are a total Apple family who CURRENTLY own 5 Macbook Pro's, one iPad, one desktop Mac, three iPod classics, three iPods and 6 iPhones. Not to mention all of the Apple products we have owned in the past. How much more can we support your product?  We have never had a dispute with Apple over service, but I just received an email that they will not honor the Applecare repair of my Ipod Classis because of misuse.  I am a 52 year old who rarely uses my IPod, I use my iphone for music. What is my recourse for disputing this decision?

  • "Free" apps that are not free - recourse?

Has anyone experienced any issues with downloading a "free" app and then receiving a text stating the app is 9.99/month?  What is the recourse?
Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of the app (game), but the text I received is a "mobile registration alert" with my phone# and the cost, with name Fonesocial (800-814-2129) in text.  On principle, I texted back complaining about the deceitfulness of the app and refuse to call the number.  I'm watching my bill to see if I get a charge from them.

How do I prevent phone numbers on my account from using Premium Messaging?
Account holders can disable Premium Messaging via My Verizon.
    To disable Premium Messaging:
Make sure you are signed in to My Verizon
Click on the Safe Guards icon.
Under Service Blocks, click on “Add/Remove Blocks”. A list of available service blocks will display.
Check the box next to “Block Premium SMS”.
Note: this needs to be done for each line on the account that you want to prevent from using Premium Messaging. This will prevent anyone from using those lines to subscribe to new Premium Messaging programs or from incurring premium charges from new programs.
Here is a link that should direct you where you need, I found this with a quidk search... http://support.vzw.com/faqs/Premium_TXT_and_MMS/faq_premium_txt_and_mms.html

like someone else suggested, block premium messaging on your account.
This is correct that this is a common way of authorizing a Premium messages but some programmers has figured out other ways to trick you into granting permission to allow them to charge your account. Basically you should be safe from the Market but when you buy from other sites outside the market network they can sometime work the premium message agreement into the agreement policy information to download app.
Best to read everything you are agreeing to these days, electronics agreement  can be just as dangerous even without credit card or account numbers, all they need is cell number.

  • Can I merge several different Verizon plans (different family members each have own plans) into one plan (i.e. can I take over all their lines), if all lines on all plans are on Edge?

I was originally told by Verizon that if I joined, I can eventually take over the lines of various family members.  Now that I've joined, and my family members all upgraded their phones and are on Edge, Verizon is telling us that we can't merge into one plan (because Edge lines can't be transferred to another account).
Is this true, and, if so, what is my recourse since I was lied to.

Well, yes and no (as far as being lied to).  I asked on several occasions (I have the chat transcripts to prove it) if there would be any issue if the lines were all already on Edge, and was told each time that under no circumstances would there be any issue.  The latest being today (I know it's after the fact, but I wanted proof that this is what the chat people are saying).  I asked "I have currently have an account with 3 phones on Edge.  My brother and his wife, and my parents, also have plans all on Edge.  I would like to 'take over' their lines.  I want to make sure there is no issue with the Edge plan and that I can simply 'take over' their lines with no problems."  I was told "Yes. That would be correct."  Again, this is what I was told in the past as well (my original post didn't make clear the timing of the chats and upgrades to Edge..).  Every time I chatted I mentioned that the accounts were going to be on Edge or (later on) were already on Edge.  Even before my family members upgraded to Edge, not one single chat or phone representative (and my brother asked the same thing in a store) mentioned NOT to upgrade to Edge because it couldn't be transferred.  Everyone just said yep, no problem.  The ONLY reason I even joined Verizon (I was on Straight Talk) was because of the More Everything and Edge plans (we wanted a family plan with 6 people and over 10GB so we'd each save $25/line).  Otherwise I never would have joined Verizon and my family wouldn't have upgraded either.

  • HP Pavilion dv9207us will not boot up

This laptop is less than 2 years old.  One day, it locked up.  Upon hard reboot, nothing showed on LCD.  Connected an external monitor, showed bios coming up, etc.  However, the graphics were all messed up.  On the external monitor there are large green blocks, which obstruct the viewing area.  LCD panel of laptop does not show anything, however, it is powered, and I can see backlight.
With the help of external monitor, I booted up in safemode.  However, nothing doing as expected.  When tried to boot up in normal mode, I was informed to use recovery disc.  I tried to use a clean copy of the DVD that I had made, but did not work.  Error:  Restore7.exe application error.  Called HP who shipped me a recovery DVD - same results.
I ran diagnostics on RAM and HD.  They were both 100% pass.  I took HD out and plugged into an adapter - could back up data files, ran Norton Enterprise Antivirus, etc.  Everything was fine.  I was able to back up data and did not find viruses or trojans.  Finally, I put the HD from HP laptop into another laptop, and I was able to bring up the Vista Home Premium and operate it as I was able to operate it before.
Finally, I've researched on the net about this issue.  I've narrowed it down to NVIDIA 7600 card that is populated on the motherboard.  I've noticed that this was an issue on AMD processors of the similar dv9000 series.  My motherboard is Inteal Centrino Core Duo G73M Chipset with 256 MB Graphic Video RAM memory.
I've called HP and they inist that the problem has been isolated to AMD based motherboards.  I do not believe that!  I have the same symptoms in the same timeframe that others had experienced.
    What are my recourses?

  • How do I know if I have a wifi problem with my new iPad 3 (it seems very slow) and how does one address the problem with apple if there is one?

I just read about the possible issue that some folks are having with their new iPad wifi (my seemed to be running very slowly but I thought that perhaps it was just me overreacting).  How do I know if I have a definite problem, and what is my recourse?  Do I need to take it to an Apple store for testing?  I have apple care which I assume addresses stuff like this.  Thoughts?  Thx so much.

Your iPad is covered by the normal warranty for one year. If you have AppleCare that extends the coverage. If you feel there is a problem with your wifi reception visit an Apple store with your iPad for a consultation. Be sure to make an appointment before you go.

  • Original 10.4 disks will no longer work on MacPro after a Leopard install

I have an Intel MacPro that shipped with 10.4. I installed 10.5 on the machine. I have a need for either a 10.4 partition or to revert back to 10.4 entirely. When I attempt to install 10.4 from the original grey disks that came with the machine I get an error that this version of Mac OS X can't be installed on this machine. Same problem with an older Intel iMac. Neither recognizes their original disks, the MacPro will boot from its original disk, but won't install, the iMac does not even recognize its original disks. Did 10.5 do something funny to the firmware? If so (or even if not) is there a way to get these machines to "accept" the software they were born with or am in in Leopard-land forever with these two machines?

Some of the ideas here appear to require a pre-made backup on an
external disk drive such as a clone; of the previous system. Good
advice going into an upgrade, even then, it may not work. But should.
Mac OS X 10.5 Help: Reverting to a previous OS X version
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/15216.html
Of course, this path is worthless; as I have read dozens of topics on
the subject and none of them appear valid in your instanc!!
Is there any chance your Mac OS X 10.5 install disc
is really only an upgrade? They aren't a full service.
{Can you Archive and Install using the 10.4 disc, but not have it booted
    up in the suspect computer? - It may revert that way. Desperate maybe.}
Since their is a percentage chance of something wrong with the computer
(but maybe not) you could consider the fee to discuss the issue with an
AppleCare tech, since that is still available after it has expired. If an issue
is not resolved in a discussion and suggested cure from them, ask what
if any recourse you have; if a call-back and other followups are free, etc.
This is an odd issue. Since I've been accustomed to making backup clones
that can boot my computers from externally enclosed hard disk drive units,
that is a path I try to be ready for; manual clones and not a Time machine
or other semi-automatic device. (Though the free-running clone utilities can
backup to a schedule, too; & offer a good full drive backup to a lite-backup.)
Sorry that I do not have a workable answer to the issue of the retail disc
not being seen by the computer as a boot volume; so complicating the
idea and need for you to revert from OS X 10.5 to the original OS X 10.4.
If things get rough for me, I have backup computers; living in a small town, in
a low-population semi-remote location does that. And backup generator, too.
{Is there a way to be able to use Leopard for your purposes, in at least one
Mac? Did you upgrade over Tiger in both? Sometimes, a full new install is
    a best way to upgrade, wipe everything - but have that clone.}
    Best wishes & regards...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Can I get refund for in-app purchase that doesn't work?

I bought a "no ads" in-app purchase for a game. At first the ads were removed. After a few software updates, the ads come back.
When I asked for a refund, apple refers me to the developer's web site. When I go to the web site, there is no way to ask for support.
Have you ever paid for an in-app purchase that doesn't work? What is the recourse?

If you haven't gotten a refund from iTunes Store before, you might be able to. Get in contact with support to see:

  • Random freezing on a Macbook Air?

    Hello,
I am encountering random freezing on my Macbook Air, that has started in the last few weeks.
    - Applications will suddenly crash at random points
    - Sometimes Lion will pop a translucent grey screen asking me to hold down a power button.
    - I can no longer relilably install software updates, it often crashes or reports the download corrupted. Sometimes I succeed after 3 or 4 attempts.
    - To try and verify it wasn't malware, I checked with Kapersky AV for Mac (it claims it is clean), and I also manually checked for Flashback (I'm not affected)
    - Web browser frequently randomly crash, and I can't run anything that involves 3D graphics
    - it still happens even if I disable startup apps
    - Sometimes I get the forever beachball and the top bar becomes corrupt or blank
    - There is no pattern to this, except some apps seem to crash more often than others
It feels like a "hardware" issue, due to its intermittency/unpredictability/non-repeatability.
I am wondering if either my RAM or CPU is defective?  Or is this something software?
It is a 2010 Macbook Air 11.6", a little more than a year old.   What are my recourse that would result in minimum wasted time:
Sometimes it goes for an hour with no problems (I can even run 3D) and might not be able to demonstrate in front of Apple.
Unfortunately, I did not have the foresight to get AppleCare, so I'll have to expend some time and/or money.
    What is least painful?
I first backup my personal files (mostly done, as it's mostly on various cloud services)
    1. Assume it's software: Attempt to reinstall OSX, cross fingers it doesn't happen again?    Run a few overnight 3D benchmark tests to 'burn it in' and verify it is not a hardware problem?
    2. or Purchase a new Macbook Air & then bring the old Air in, then resell the Air after it's repaired?  (Minimum downtime method, high cost method)
    3. or Apple Store & try to get it repaired/serviced.   (Lower cost method)
    4. or trade it in for a discounted refurbished 2011 Air?   (If the Apple Store does this sort of stuff)
    Thanks,
    Mark Rejhon

I am able to drag photos from iPhoto to Contacts on my MacBook Air. I resize the iPhoto window to make it smaller, open Contacts, select the Contact in question and click the Edit button at the lower right of the contact. I then drag the photo from iPhoto.
The step that I'm guessing that you might be missing is clicking the Edit button at the lower right of the contact.

  • Phone number held hostage?  Security and Privacy Risk

Let me preface this by saying I do not own an iPhone.
The previous owner of my phone number, however, was an iPhone user.  Apparently there is a way he could link the number to his Apple ID.   After getting rid of his phone, he never disassociated the number from his Apple ID.
The problem this creates is that now anyone who wants to text me from an iOS device is unable to do so without turning off the iMessage service.  Since my (his) number is registered to an Apple ID, my HTC appears to iMessage as another iOS device and thus texting never goes out to the cellular network... the previous owner is getting any text sent from an iMessage-enabled iPhone meant for me.
Effectively, Apple has created a situation where this person, or any person with an iOS device for that matter, can knowingly or unknowingly manage to hold a celluar number hostage from a texting perspective, creating a security and privacy risk.
Has anyone run into this before and if so what is the recourse?  There has to be some was for Apple to dissociate a number no longer used by a previous user.

Unfortunately, I don't have an iPhone or a support contract so Applecare won't even talk to me without me ponying up $19.  I see no sense in having to pay for a problem I didn't create.

  • Conned by an App

Hi. I browsed the apps in appworld and chose to download one based on the several positive reviews it had. It did have negative reviews as well but I could not tell if the problems those users had were as a result of the programme or their providers, etc. So I took a chance.
I received, quite expeditiously, a confirmation email stating I was billed for the app and then I watched the programme begin to download. It never completed. Furthermore, when I look at my applications list, it's not there. I went back to app world to try to download it again and the app now tells me that it is "Uninstalled". How can something that never downloaded be 'uninstalled'? Or is it uninstalled from appworld??  There is no option to re-download it now. It's as if the programme is untouchable.
I am very disappointed and I would like some answers. Is this the fault of the developer? Is it the fault of app world? Is it my equipment? If there was a problem with downloading why can't I try downloading again? If there is a fix, I would prefer that.
    OR is this a scam?
The records show I paid but I have no product.
What is my recourse? Who checks to ensure that apps are legitimate? How do I prevent this kind of disappointment with an app world product again?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Delete AppWorld from Options > Advanced > Application.
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
Using your BlackBerry browser, go to www.blackberry.com/appworld and download/install again.

  • Damaged iPhone 4 Bumper

    Hi,
I bought my green iPhone 4 Bumper around end of December/beginning of January and the rubber is starting to peel off.
Is there a way to fix this or get it exchanged?
Hopefully it is still under warranty :S
    Thanks,
    Oakcapy

I've a similar issue. I bought my bumper in June online from Apple. The rubber has seperated at the base as well as badly cracked there too. I'm based in the Republic of Ireland and we don't have an Apple Store here. What's my recourse in that situation. Can I make a complaint online and hope Apple send me a new bumper or send my current one back and request a replacement???
Anyone have a link to where I can start this process???
    Thanks in advance.

  • Directv - Diversified Consultants Collection Account (Adverse Activity)

Hello, I currently have an open outstanding past due collection against me for Directv. They sent an account to collections bearing my SSN# due to the $118.00 balance going unpaid. Basically I signed with my brother and his wife for the account - and they made sure to promply make every payment on time and even made sure to put it on autopay each month with the company for over 2 years now. He knew how important my name was and still is to me. I have never had any collections and have about 12 credit cards with my highest limit being amex @ $27K with no late payments missed ever. So - Because I made a fuss last year over this account my brothers wife went and supposively put it in her own name. Directv did tell me that if the account ever went so far as to go into collections that i was nowhere listed on the account in anyway and that i wouldnt be responsible for its balances and that it would go on her name. Unfortunately I am thinking that Directv changed all the needed info on the acount accept for the SSN# on it (mine which was the first one opened with it).  I was told many times my name was nowhere on this account by them and that it wasnt to be my responsibility. My brother and his wife did pay all bills - just now sent in the boxes alittle to late and now the account is reported as collections - charged off. It was late in Nov and in March was placed into collections. I even called Directv to setup service in June for my new place and they went so far as to set me up an install date and did come to install it. However, I couldnt get it due to my apartment rules. They did tell me at the time an account was flagged as being attached to me, I told them NO this account is not mine - and they verified that i wasnt on it - it was listed at an address i didnt live at (my brothers) and also it was in my brother's wifes name - not mine anymore. The credit agency even said the account wasnt being reported as being me - just as my SSN so Directv did change over the account. I was thinking if need be - I could go to the credit agencies and collection agencies with this info as well as the furnisher (Directv). Also if that doesnt work - i could go to court and file for a wrong erranous reporting on me - due to the account name being changed well after it was estabished. This shows that we were mislead because Directv did put in her name (not just as an authorized user) but for the primary user and for the billing address too.  Becuase of this issue and being incorrectly mislead by Directv what is my recourse to getting this off my credit. No, It didnt effect my scores to much only by around maybe 20 or so points but that to me is a big deal when i was mislead - especially considering i may be able to get it removed with the information i have. My brother and his wife are prepared to send back the boxes and make the account current again - but that wont erase whats been reported. I will possibly need to get this removed due to inaccurate information being relayed to me. I have already disputed the two credit reports I see it on. Whats my plan of attack? Thanks for all of your replies.

A creditor or business is not required to provide you notice prior to their referral to a debt collector or sale of the debt. You are, by means of your account agreement and billing, assumed to know your obligations. Similarly, a debt collector is not required to provide notice to a consumer prior to reporting their collection. They are required to send a formal collection (dunning) notice only after they have initiated communication with the consumer. Do you assert that you do not owe the debt, or is your only complaint that they did not notice your prior to sale of the debt and thus reporting of the collection?

  • Automatic Payment FRAUD Someone Used My Account

I own a business and have five BofA accounts. It wasn't till I was reconciling all 5 accounts with a new bookkeeper that we realized there were two automatic payments being made per month for the last 8 months. One was mine and god knows who the other one is for.  There is no phone number or account number matched to the transactions and when I called the fraud department and accounts payable they said they couldn't help me. They didn't care that someone has been fraudulantly accessing my bank funds to pay their AT&T bill.  What is my recourse besides the bank? I want to know who did this and want a credit for the months not being reversed by my bank.  My bank suggested I file a police report and a friend who works at AT&T suggested the office of the president.  Any help would be appreciated.

Start with the bank and police. The bank should have records of where an automatic payment is going.
Typically some account number is included in the transaction details. I don't know why they say there is not.
You can of course stop the payment to ATT.

  • I Book G3

I have an I book G3 about 3.5 years old. I had the logic board replaced two times under warranty and now the IBook will not work on the battery. I took it for repair and they said that it is the logic board and only Apple will replace it for $400 and that Apple knows that they put out a defective logic board in this model. I feel that if Apple knows they put out a defective product, they should correct the problem. What is my recourse?

Is "Gabe" an Apple Customer Relations representative, or did you call and talk to Customer Service? Customer Service cannot help you. They don't have the authority to make an exception to the three-year rule.
If you spoke in anger or in a demanding tone, that will squelch their response.
In your initial post, you said:
Apple knows that they put out a defective logic board in this model. I feel that if Apple knows they put out a defective product, they should correct the problem.
This sounds a bit snippy and angry. While you may feel that way, you really have to tone it down with Customer Relations in order to get a positive response from them. Polite disappointment gets you further than angry demands.
If they are absolutely not going to help you, DT & T Computer Services will repair the logic board for $225 plus shipping both ways. It's cheaper than buying a new computer, but, if it were mine, I think I'd rather put the money toward a new iBook. The new ones are $999, and all the specs would be spectacularly upgraded from your 3 1/2-year-old model. No doubt about that.
