What is System Change Option Used For?

Hi,
I need help on security.
we use scc4 settings for client protection. the settings are 'No changes allowed' for client-specific objects and 'No Changes to Repository and cross-client customizing objects' for cross-client object changes.
system change options are set to 'Modifiable'. what is the difference between these settings? Is there any situation that may cause problems?
thanks,
- ferudun

Hi ,
No Changes allowed flag is explained as below
This flag means that changes in the customizing settings of the client
are not permitted (client lock).
However, customizing settings can be exported from the client by manual
creation of a transport request. A manual transport can be carried out
in the particular transaction for settings with the function Transport,
which places the selected customizing settings in a transport request.
In a productive client, the customizing settings that can be maintained
as "current settings" are excluded from the client lock; this means that
current settings (e.g. exchange rates, posting periods) can always be
maintained in the productive client
For 'No changes to Repository and cross cleint customizing objects' explained below
o   Changes to the Repository and cross-client Customizing permitted
There are no restrictions on the maintenance of cross-client object
for the client when this setting is used. Both cross-client
Customizing objects and objects of the SAP Repository can be
       maintained.
o   No change to cross-client Customizing objects
Cross-client Customizing objects cannot be maintained in the client
       with this setting.
o   No change to Repository objects
With this setting, objects of the SAP Repository cannot be
       maintained in the client.
o   No change to Repository and cross-client Customizing objects
Combination of both restrictions: Neither cross-client Customizing
objects nor objects of the SAP Repository can be maintained in the
client.
Please reward if useful.

  • Discussion: What file system do you use for external backups and why?

I just got a brand new seagate 2TB hdd to act as an external backup.
I use ext2 with it, because it's USB (sata->usb enclosure), and I'm not likely to connect it direct to a PC anytime soon (also my computer is old and I liek to keep ram usage down as much as possible)...
What filesystems do you use\prefer for external backups.. and why?
Also, what type of connection do you use (USB,eSATA,etc,) and size (ie larger then a disk on key..)?

I used to use ext4 on a 1.5TB HD, but recently switched back to ext3—and a tiny NTFS partition for the ext2fsd install file. I realized I use this drive a lot more outside of my Linux environment than I thought, and it was a hassle (and also unsafe) to disable driver signatures at Windows boot just to get a dev version of ext2fsd to work.
pseudonomous wrote:If portability to other operating systems is a concern, then fat32 is, unfortunately, still the best choice, unless you have single files bigger than 4gb, which would probably mean you want to use ntfs or ext2.
While helping a friend with her external hard drive, I noticed another limitation of fat32: only 65535 file descriptors per directory. She tried to backup her entire NTFS Windows C: drive to a fat32 one. Took us a good while until we figured that out, and I couldn't find much about it on the net.

  • What is "FND : Diagnostics %"  profile option used for ?

What is "FND : Diagnostics %" profile option used for ?
How is it different from "FND : Debug%" profiles ?

I guess my above update was misleading (Sorry for that) .. Please find below more details about (FND: Diagnostics) and (FND: Debug Log Enabled):
Both profile options are used to configure logging, the difference between them is (FND: Debug Log Enabled) is a database profile option used to configure logging while (FND: Diagnostics) is used to configure logging to screen.
    Logging to screen provides:
    - The ability to enable logging on a per HTTP request or per HTTP session basis.
    - Dynamic configuration which does not require restarting any servers or changing any log profiles.
    - A convenient lightweight mechanism to diagnose performance issues. Each message is timestamped to the millisecond.
If Logging to Screen is enabled, then the Java log messages generated for a particular HTTP Request-Response are buffered in memory and appended to the end of the generated HTML page.
This feature does not affect any existing configurations of file or database logging. File or database logging continues to behave per the configured middle tier log properties and/or log profile values.
Note that this mechanism currently provides only Java layer messages. Regular file or database logging should be used if messages from other layers (e.g., PL/SQL) are needed.
    In brief ..
FND: Diagnostics (Self-Service) --> To see this, Login as that user and navigate to self-service, Click the Diagnostics link in the upper right corner
    - Default = “No”
    - Recommendation = “No”
    - Requires APPS password to use Examine function
    - Usually set to “Yes” during development

  • SE03 / SE06 System Change Option Scope

    Hi All,
We are creating a source system from R/3 to BW in some specify step we need to change the System Change Option of the sistem in a particular client (SE06 -> System Change Option -> No Modifiable to Modifiable and Modifiable to No Modifiable).
My question is: This changes are Cross Client?
Or only apply to the specify client where you are logged?
    Best Regards,
    Erick Ilarraza

On their own, Global and Compenent specific change options are not client dependent as they are not related to the logical system of the ABAP user nor the master and transaction data (tables with field MANDT as key).
Personally, I think of it as a "call stack" of checks on whether and what you can modify. Perhaps "System Change Update-ability" would have been a better label, but that is not good English.
As the stack is released for a user in a client (a logical program system), the system determines what can be updated at different levels of the stack as it unfolds, a bit like a spring. At the top there is SE06. At the bottom of the spring there are individual authority-checks which are system, client, program flow and context, and user access dependent.
Depending on where in the stack you release the spring from and how you got there, your user can update parts of the stack. Often the term "logical systems" is used in connection with the client (SCC4 client), but also many others such as workflow etc.
=> If the user can pass authority-checks for access at the bottom of the stack (S_DEVELOP is the key control here), then they can also change that which the top of the stack was designed to control. If you can debug, then there is nothing which will stand in your way.
    > My question is: This changes are Cross Client?
It depends. You still need to control access via authorizations within the client to secure access to the whole system.
    Cheers,
    Julius

  • Monitor system change status using Solman

Is it possible to setup a CCMS monitor that causes an alert whenever the system change option is modified in SE06? Last week we had to open our production environment to make a change and then forgot to close it. The result was the system was left open for a few days before we realized the mistake.
    Any help is appreciated.
I have found another way to monitor this scenario

    Hi Rayyan,
All of the readings regarding changing Oracle passwords state that they should be done in Brtools because it updates certain SAP tables with the new password information while doing it diterctly under SQLPLUS will only update Oracle
All the SAP tables are owned by schema user and not system or SYS users. Both these users are used only by Oracle processes. Hence it has to be changed by SQL command.
    Hope this is useful.

  • System change in BW for enabling Formula editor

I have a basis related question in BW.
While trying to add the process type 'Decision between Multiple Alternatives' to my process chain in quality and production systems, I get a 'system not modifiable message' when I try to create a formula in the subsequent screen . I know this is because the systems are disabled against any customising and repository changes. Which setting(s) do I change to get this to work ?
I tried changing SCC4 to allow repository changes and some settings in tcode RSWBO004 'System change option' but they had no effect. Any ideas as to what namespace setting I need to enable to allow the formula editor screen to be displayed ?
I work in BW and was trying my hands at SCC4/system change etc hence am asking it in this forum. This is more of a BW relevant question rather than a generic basis question.

    Hi Daya,
The object changeability option does not seem to help in this case. The formula builder or process type 'Decision between Multiple Alternatives' is not to be seen. FYI, the technical name for the formula builder is 'RSFO'. So there might be some setting around this.
    Thanks..

  • Software components can keep modifiable in bw 3.5 system change options

    hello experts,
can we keep software components modifiable in bw 3.5 production in system change option (se06)
    it very urgent

    Hi
Transaction SE06 - Processing After Installation of the CTO
Transaction SE06 has to be executed once in every newly installed R/3 System. This applies to an R/3 standard installation as well as the installation of a copy of an existing R/3 system.
Transaction SE06 provides the following functions for processing after installation:
Generating basic settings of the Change and Transport Organizer Closing other requests and tasks  Setting the system change option
Meaning of the system name The system name (SID) is defined during the installation with R3setup and cannot be changed subsequently.
When you choose names, make sure that there are no naming conflicts with existing systems. Under no circumstances may two systems within an SAP system group have the same name.
The installation type of the R/3 System is specified in the initial screen:
    R/3 standard installation
The R/3 System was installed from the SAP CD using R3setup. It is assumed that the system is running on a correct, delivered version of the R/3 System. No adjustments based on corrections or repairs have been made.
If you set up an R/3 System that originated from a database copy using this option, problems could arise when you upgrade or modify objects with the Change and Transport Organizer.
    Database copy or database migration
The R/3 System was created on the basis of a copy. R3setup provides utilities to do this. The R/3 System needs to be assigned a new and independent role within the SAP system group or outside of it.
Before you connect the new R/3 System to the SAP system group, you have to give it a name that has not yet been used in the group.
You should avoid using a previously used system name as this could cause serious complications and may also lead to the loss of information.
If you have installed your SAP System as a copy of an existing SAP System then you must configure the CTS after installation.
In SAP Systems installed with R3setup from the SAP CD the basic settings for the CTS are generated during the configuration of the  Transport Management System. You do not need to perform any processing after installation.
Transaction SE06 provides the following functions for processing after installation:
Generating basic settings of the Change and Transport System
    Setting the system change option
    Closing foreign requests and tasks
You must specify the installation type of the SAP System on the initial screen:
    Standard installation
The SAP System was installed from the SAP CD using R3setup. It is assumed that the SAP System is running as a correct, delivered version. No adjustments based on corrections or repairs have been made.
If you set up an SAP System that originated from a database copy using this option, problems could arise when you upgrade the system or modify objects with the Transport Organizer.
    Database copy or database migration
The SAP System was created on the basis of a copy. R3setup provides utilities to do this. The SAP System needs to be assigned a new and independent role within the SAP system group or outside of it.
Before you connect the new SAP System to the SAP system group, you have to give it a name that has not yet been used in the group.
Do not use an existing system name since this could cause serious conflicts and may lead to the loss of data.

  • SE03 Set system change option ?

What is the meaning for SE03? Why would I set anything to motmodifiable in DEV.
I would think Software comp and namespace should all be modifiable in my Developemnt environment.
Does anyone have some information that describes what this actually does or any pros and cons with setting options on the SW components and namespaces.
    Thanks
    Weyland Y.

    Hi Weyland,
By understanding the  architecture of SAP like, what is a Client , Cross-Client settings and Repositories. You might have an answer, why this system change option is really needed.
    refer the link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/57/38de9b4eb711d182bf0000e829fbfe/content.htm.
System change options settings mainly affect repositories & cross client customizing, changing the settings at these level will affect all the clients .
    Thanks

  • Personalization - which System Change Option is needed?

    Hi Friends,
Personalization does not work in Cosolidation or Productive System due to System Change options. SAP Help states, System change options need to be activated... but which one is is? There are lots of them and we usually are very restrictive with System Change options.
    Please help!
    Angelika

    In SE03, administration-->setsystemchange option
Right click and find the documentation available:
    Description
Use this program to set the system change option.
Use the global setting to specify whether Repository objects and cross-client Customizing are modifiable or not.
To make cross-client Customizing objects modifiable, you need to allow changes in the global setting and the Client Setting.
There is also another option for Repository objects: Each Repository object is in a namespace or name range, and in a software component.
So that a Repository object can be changed, you need to set the following to Modifiable:
    the global setting
    the namespace or name range
the software component of the object
You can set the software component so that the Repository objects are Modifiable, have Restricted modifiability or are Not modifiable. Restricted modifiability means that you can create Repository objects in this software component as non-original objects only.
You can set the namespace or name range so that its Repository objects are modifiable or not modifiable.
    Requirements
You need the administration authorization for the Change and Transport Organizer to execute this report program.
    Output
All software components and namespaces/name ranges are displayed. You can then make your changes to them.
    Example
    Notes
The SAP System logs this activity. To display the log of the system change option settings, choose Log.
The way the system change option is set has no effect on client-specific Customizing changes. The Client Control Setting determines whether you can change client-specific Customizing or not.
To set those namespaces for which you have the producer role to Modifiable, choose Edit -> Own namespaces modifiable. These include your own prefix namespaces, if you have applied for any from SAP. For more information on using prefix namespaces, see Help -> SAP Library -> BC - Basis Components -> Change and Transport System -> Namespaces and Naming Conventions -> Development in Reserved Namespaces.
    Hope this helps

What are the naming conventions used for aggregates created from Query?

    Hi Reddy,
As you know aggregates are baby cubes right.
Aggregate names by default system has given as 6 digit number like 100831 but write the description by yourself.
Here you have to remember fact table is created with the name
    like for ex: /BIC/F100831.
while creating aggregates you can observe all options carefully till complete the creation process then after I am sure about
    your can get idea .
If problem still persists with you let me know the same until
    get out of that.
else assign points if this is sufficient.

can't say I agree with the RAID 0, if that messes up or one drive dies, you lose it all. Not to mention, The SSDs made like that aren't made for RAIDs...
The ones that can are really expensive, high end stuff.
