What is the best macbbok pro for video and photo editing

I am looking at getting a Macbook Pro but not sure about how to configure it. What are the advantages of the 13 vs 15 and the dual core i7 vs quad core i7?

It is the GPU that is important.  All the CPU's will be fast enough.  If you can affords it, the 15" with the NVIDIA GPU is the best.
Ciao.

I know I could opt for the most expensive and probably get what I want that way, but I´m not made of money, so what are your suggestions for minimum criteria and which would you recommend?

MacBooks Pro are great Macs with a good hardware, so all of them will work for the use you want, but I think that you want the biggest display possible because of your uses. In this case, it has to be a 15-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro, with the settings you want. Note that, after buying the Mac, you can upgrade the HDD and memory without voiding the warranty, so you are free to install as much memory and the HDD size you want after buying it. It's my opinion, but you are free to do whatever you think it's better

  • What is the best export setting for video on blogger

What is the best export setting for video from premeire to blogger.com or blogspot.com

I have not been able to find the technical limits/specs for the site Blogger or blogspot.com. That is why I made the post here thinking some Adobe users may have experimented already and come up with good export settings for AVI DV video to a format optimized for Blogger.

  • What's the best approach/program for finding and eliminating duplicate photos on my hard drive?

What's the best approach/program for finding and eliminating duplicate photos on my hard drive? I have a "somewhat" older version of iPhoto (5.0.4), and it doesn't seem to offer anything like that except during the importing phase of syncing my phone...

I wonder, is there room to transfer them to your phone, & then back to filter them?

  • What is the best set up for video editing?

What is the best computer? The best software? The best external storage? The best ram? 3D editing? Everything!!!!!!
Running full HD and 720p at 60 fps videos. Clips ranging from a few seconds to 10-30 minutes.
    Cost isn't an issue.
What is the best set up, not the most excessive. If it doesn't need to be there or it isn't greatly needed I would like to know. This is looking at the production aspects, not the camera and such. What is the best plug in for slow motion? Pros and Cons of the set up?
I would greatly appriciate everyones input in this. Thank you so much.

That is a hard question to answer.. Nothing is best for everyone... However if i am to generalize it I would put it this way.. If you want to cut everything from a short promos to hollywood pictures..
A high end windows pc (only cause mac pro hasn't been updated in ages)
Avid Media Composer with Nitrus DX
    Two monitors
    Broadcast monitor
    HD Deck
    pimping 5.1 speakers
    A good mixer
You are looking at over 70,000 or 80,000, could even approach even more.. HD decks run atleast 15k.
If price is not an issue then there you go....
However this is not realistic for most people nor best solution by no means... I run a macbook pro with Avid (as primary) Final Cut 7, Final Cut X (for practice, didn't have to use it for a job yet), and Premiere (just in case)
I am a final cut child who grew up on it and love it however everything I am doing in last few years is on AVID...
    Have a second monitor..
I am very portable and rest of the gear I usually get where ever I work at.. I am looking into getting a good broadcast monitor connected with AJA thunderbolt..
Like I said this is very open question, there is no (BEST) it all depends what you will be doing.. If you get AVID (which can do everything, however is cluncky as **** and counter intuitive) but you are only cutting wedding videos and short format stuff, it would be an overkill galore.. Just get FCP X in that case... Simple, easy, one app...
Be more specific and you will get clearer answers..

  • Which is faster for video and photo editing

I am using a black macbook (2.2 GHz C2D, 4 GB RAM), my wife is using a macbook pro (2.16 C2D, 3 GB RAM). I found my macbook to be slow in video and photo editing. Do you think I'll get a boost in processing if I exchange my macbook with my wife's older macbook pro? If it is not worth it, I do want to go through the hassle of transferring data and re-installing apps. Thanks in advance for the advice.

  • What is the best MIDI controller for Logic, and is Axiom Pro the only line with "Hyper Control?

What is the best MIDI keyboard/control surface to use with LOGIC (Studio - which I assume is the latest & greatest version) and is Axiom Pro the only line that has Hyper control? I already own the Axiom Pro 61, but prefer more keys, and though I like much about it, the keys aren't very easy for playing more complex material, and there is an obvious delay regarding attack response (esp. noticeable at faster speeds). There are other issues as well I've read of regarding key sticking (though I consider myself lucky mine do not, there is nontheless a sluggish clunckiness issue which neither helps agility/acuracy nor the delay factor.) and the unit not lasting very long before it breaks and needs repairing. And lastly, I am no fan of Avid and care not to support them in the least.

Sorry, but is this an iPad question? Axiom Pro 61 is not an iPad-compatible peripheral, so perhaps you mean to post in the Logic forum?

  • What is the best way to make video and audio the same lengths for posting on Web?

YouTube recommends doing this to avoid sync problems. Maybe it will also make my videos run more smoothly. I'm talking here about random pauses I see in my movies on YouTube, not the uniform stuttering problem which I pretty much solved by redoing the movie at 30 fps instead of 24 fps. (Original is 18 fps Super 8 movie film.)
Anyway, there is no sound during my titles. The soundtrack starts about 17 seconds in, and ends when the ending titles begin. So what's the best way to add silent audio? The best I can figure is to take some existing sound, put it in where the titles are, and turn the volume down to zero. Seems real workaround-ish, so to speak, to me. It seems to work. I even cranked it up on headphones to make sure there was no residual noice. But I'm curious if there's a better way? No biggie if not.
    Thanks.

I should have included the following:
1.) Why can't I make a silent project in GarageBand? I have to instead find a project with a long enough song, make an "iLife preview" of it (see (2) below), copy it from the iMovie Music and Sound Effects browser to the end of the movie, and then open the audio panel and turn the volume to zero. And all this so that video websites don't get confused by a soundtrack that starts in mid-movie.
2.) Why do I have to "render" them by the following process: Double-click a song in the iMovie Music and Sound Effects browser. You get a dialog box saying "The project "The Great Race" cannot be used because it was not prepared with an iLife preview. Would you like to open "The Great Race" in GB so you can save it with an iLife preview?" What I don't understand is why this new thing was introduced and why I have to do it via iMovie.

  • What's the best way to sync video and sound?

If I'm going to make a music video with performance shots (lip-syncing) interspersed with story-line shots, what's the best way to line them up. I mean, I start with some video shot from a car while the song is playing, then transition to a shot of me singing. Say I get the singing clip lined up perfect, then when I add the transition, isn't that going to mess with the timing? And of course, I'll be doing this multiple times throughout the video. Say I get the first one right, then add some more storyline video and another performance clip and I lock that (second) clip to the audio. Isn't that going to shift my first performance clip when I add a transition? Am I making sense?

First look at all your material ..'review' it.
As you say so rightly: "..then when I add the transition, isn't that going to mess with the timing?.." ..yes; but only if you haven't allowed for the length of each transition when you first line up your clips.
So watch your footage, think where you want to cut it, and then immediately think "what kind of transition there, and for how long?" ..Imagine it, in your head, so if you think "that would work best with a quick two-thirds of a second dissolve" jot down that you want to leave an extra two-thirds of a second at the start of the clip which you want to transition into.
In the US of A, at 30 frames per second of NTSC video, two-thirds of a second is 20 frames. (..The frame counter gets up to 0:29 and then changes to 1:00, because the 30th frame changes it over to the next second..)
In Europe the frame rate is 25 per second - so after 0:24 comes 1:00 - so two-thirds of a second is about 0:16.
So when you start to cut your video clips, if you're going to have a two-thirds of a second dissolve between your first two, you'll need to leave an extra 20 (NTSC) or 16 (PAL) frames at the start of your second clip, before the action you want begins onscreen, so that those frames will be "eaten away" in the dissolve between the end of the previous clip and the start of the clip which follows it.
If you definitely want to see the last few frames of "lip-sync" - for some reason - of the first (outgoing) clip, then leave the extra frames on the end of that clip, instead of at the start of the following clip, but it usually works best to ensure that the follow-on clip starts with those extra "sacrificial" frames.
If you want to use any embedded audio that's in the video clips - and you're not simply matching up the video to external sound (..such as an iTunes track or your own material which you're pre-recorded..) then be sure to Extract the audio from your clips as soon as you've cut them, and before you apply any transitions. This keeps their audio safely "marooned" on an audio track, where you can edit it separately, and then match it to the edited video.
So prepare all your video first, and cut it to have excess "tops and tails" which you can eat away during the transitions. (The only transition which doesn't eat away material is iMovie's "Overlap", which freezes the outgoing clip, and dissolves the incoming clip into that freeze-frame. But that - in my opinion -doesn't look to good with music videos, because it freezes the flow of the video, and makes it seem too pointlessly 'jerky'.)

  • What is the best DNS server for iCloud and Apple services?

Hello. Im wondering what is the best DNS server to use with iCloud, and apple services.
Does apple have a dedicatrd DNS server?
I read a couple of articles stating that the google DNS servers like 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 slow down apple and facebook services.
Did a couple of tests like iTunes streaming and found out that its true in some cases.

    Not always!

  • What are the best export settings for video with small text?

I am making videos of lectures (where slides show up next to a small video of a person talking). I would like the text to show up as legibly as possible, all while maintaining a small file size (smallest possible) and still maintaining quality. What would you recommend? The slides change every couple minutes or so, but I don't wnat to reduce the frame rate becuase I do have that small video in the corner. Which settings and format are best? Also, I'll be uploading this to Youtube.
    THANKS!

Keep in mind that the small video in the corner does not require as high a data rate as a full screen video. So, if a full screen video requires, let's say 5Mb/s for a talking head, you might be able to get away with 2Mb/s or less for the entire frame with a little video and a lot of static slide. Also remember that the less motion in the video, the lower the bit rate can be.
    Try it out.
Use the H.264 preset for YouTube at the same frame size as what you are editing, and then reduce the data rate to half normal. Export and check out the quality. Then halve it again and check the quality. Keep going until the quality is unacceptable then go up a little. Find your sweet spot.
It is subjective. You have to decide the lowest bit rate you personally can accept and still be confident that the client will be OK with it.

  • What is the best lossless compression for video?

I have a large amount of captured video, which is saved in uncompressed format.
I want to archive this video and I need to figure out what the best compression choice is.
It's video only and I want the archived materials to be compressed as losslessly as possible and as small as possible. Losslessness is more important than size. The original material was captured in FCP from a video camera using Firewire. It is NTCS DV.
Multiple angles of this source material were edited in FCP and rendered to make the final, uncompressed files. Those are what I need to compress and archive.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is no such thing as lossless compression.
This is not really true. There are many ways to compress - just google "compression algorithms" and you'll find some. Two basic schemes are either lossless or lossy. Lossless seeks to remove redundant or repetitive information, this is like Run Length Encoding or LZW encoding. Lossy throws away information that is generally "not perceived". JPEG, MPEG, H.264, DV are examples of lossy compression.
YUV "lossless" is 4:2:2 and is considered uncompressed, yet it takes up less space than RGB 4:4:4 encoding. Simply zipping the file compresses it (uncompressed codecs squeeze better, but DV does compress, indicating redundant information) - a TIFF sequence might have run length encoding or LZW. Both are lossless.
To get back to the question, Patrick:Losslessness is more important than size.
H.264 is a fantastic compression - it is, however, FAR from lossless AND it is not directly editable. You'd need to convert it back to an editable format, ensuring even more loss. Not within the parameters of your desired solution...

  • What is the best export option for video podcasting purposes?

Although Quicktime has an "Export to iPod" option, I was wondering if there was any better means to export from FCP or Quicktime for purposes of podcasting and YouTube posting to ensure best quality while containing file size.
    Thank you for your help!

    Felix,
    use Compressor.
1)Look into Settings presets, towards the bottom. You have several options and the best for you comes from testing a few, just a few seconds each.
2)In inspector you can customize settings further.
    Have fun,
