What is the best way to reinstall my OS (10.9.1) and applications on a 2009 Model ID: 10,1 iMac?

Hello All at Apple Support,
I have a 2009 iMac and it's time to replace the hard drive before it fails. I've searched a lot of sites and found this hard drive: Toshiba (by Hitachi) 2.0TB DT01ACAxx series (3.5 inch SATA 6GB/7200rpm/64mb cache) at Other World Computing. My current hard drive is a Hitachi HDT721050SLA360 500GB. I was told to only use a Hitachi drive on this iMac model. I'm planning on using the iFixit user guide when replacing the drive. My question relates to after the drive is installed getting everthing back correctly. I have Time machine running on a external 1 TB hard drive.
Thank you,
SDCM

First, locate your original OSX installer disc that came with your computer. You cannot use a retail Snow Leopard DVD.
Second, after installing the new hard drive boot from the installer disc.
Third, open Disk Utility from the installer disc's screen menu under Utilities.
Fourth, partition and format your new drive.
Fifth, install Snow Leopard.
Sixth, open App Store and re-download Mavericks.
Seventh, install Mavericks.

  • I've had it with Motion 5.  What's the best way to reinstall Motion 4?

Not exactly sure why I paid £30 for Motion 5 when it's basically a downgrade from 4.  It crashes all the time especially when I open the font list and also when I go to export a movie.  Doesn't remember the right fonts for saved projects!  Won't let you create your own custom layout.  Vector images keep being cropped in a project I'm doing at the moment even though I've unchecked the fixed resolution box and they are all in 3D layers?
So, what is the best way of reinstalling Motion 4?
    Thanks

You should never have uninstalled Motion 4.  They'll both live on the same system.  In fact, Motion 5's install puts all of your Final Cut Studio apps into a folder called "Final Cut Studio", it doesn't delete or overwrite it.
If you're having those problems, there's issues with your system, not Motion.  Run Disk Utility and Repair all disks.  May need to run Disk Warrior and rebuild the directories of all of your disks.
Verify your graphics card supports Motion 5, you have plenty of RAM, and your drives are fast enough.

  • What's the best way for a web app to handle logins and sessions?

I'm deploying in JBoss, using JSF. As is often the case, I keep User information in an entity bean. My question is, what's the best way to handle this bean?
My inclination is to create a login page with a LoginBackingBean atached to it. When the user attempts to log in, it will see if there is a User entity bean that corresponds to the given name and password. If there is no User bean that matches, obviously we show an informative error screen.
But what happens if there is a valid user?
In the plain old Servlet world (without EJB / J2EE) I would just put the User object (it's an object, not an EJB) into the HttpSession, and I would create a Filter that would check for the presence of that User object, and I would map the filter to something like /members/*, and that would be it. I would use Hibernate to persist the User object, and there would also be a filter that creates a Hibernate session and stores it in the Request so that the User object would work and persist.
How do I do this within the J2EE / EJB world?
My first thought would be to just do the same thing. Install the User bean into the HttpSession, and create a filter and do all the same stuff. Is that the right way to do it? It would work pretty well with JSF because I could just access things in the normal JSF way: #{user.firstName} would find the "user" object in the HttpSession scope. So that's good.
One question that comes up from that is if the user makes some change to the User object that is in the Session scope, will the EJB automatically do the right thing and make those changes persistent? Is there anything else I need to do?
I'm new to the EJB world, but from what I can see so far, it seems like it's the best way to think about a web application.
    Thanks

    hi ,
i think the best way is to create java beans ,in that bean call your EJB ,
and check the validation over there.
and make that bean scope to session.
in each and everypage try to check the session ,if it is not valid then forward to your login page...
otherwise continue to give access to him like guest

  • What's the best way to import ALL of my photos (34k +) and then share?

    *Part I - importing:*
I've got approximately 34,400 photos on a networked drive that I need to be able to control using iPhoto. I want these files to stay on the network drive, but also be controlled by iPhoto (organized by date). Right now our photos folder on the network drive is a bit of a mess, some folders are named by date only and some are named by the event itself ("birthday 2009", etc.). I want this naming to go away in place of the iPhoto method (by date only). FYI, I am familiar with how to get to the "original" and "modified" folders/files within the iPhoto Library.
Question: Is there a way to get iPhoto to organize the photos (all by date) an leave the original photos on the networked drive? or do I need to:
    > Import ALL photos into my iPhoto with the "import photos into iPhoto Library" option checked (iPhoto copies all original files to my laptop hard drive)
    > Then manually move the file structure (all new folders created - by date) back to my networked drive
    > THEN...remove all photos from the iPhoto Library and re-import the newly organized photos from the network drive but unchecking the "import photos into iPhoto Library" option.
Right now, both of our MacBook Pro's use iPhoto to access those photos independently of one another (each laptop does their own thing). This also creates problems because when files are imported on my laptop they are saved locally (on my laptop) and not on the network drive, same goes for my wife's laptop. Then she's not able to see those new photos.
    *Part II - sharing:*
I'm also in the process of trying to figure out the best way to share all of our photos between our different laptops. Using the "sharing" function in iPhoto isn't ideal since that requires both laptops to be on.
My understanding of sharing the iPhoto library itself (having it saved on the networked drive) between two laptops is that only one laptop can access this library at a time, or there's potential of having the files become corrupt (two laptops trying to access the file at the same time).
Question: What's the best way to share photos between two laptops?
    Thanks in advance

    RONBO
Is there a way to get iPhoto to organize the photos (all by date) an leave the original photos on the networked drive?
Yes there is. But I don't recommend it as a way of working with iPhoto.
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
The problems arise when you change the path to the Files. iPhoto has no way of reconnecting that path and you could find yourself resolving aliases one at a time for all 34k Photos.
Other apps, such as Aperture have a command to re-connect with the master files.
FYI, I am familiar with how to get to the "original" and "modified" folders/files within the iPhoto Library.
Good for you but never, ever access the files this way. Period. Within the iPhoto Package File there are no user sercviceable parts.
All your work gets done in the iPhoto Window. Everything you need to do can be done from there - and must be.
Then manually move the file structure (all new folders created - by date) back to my networked drive
Never, ever break up the internals of the iPhoto Package File. You'll break iPhoto if you do.
Also, what format is that Networked Drive? iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
Question: What's the best way to share photos between two laptops?
If simultaneous sharing is your goal then you need to use a Media Server app. iPhoto isn't one.
The key really is the format of the NAS. IF you can make it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then you can easily store your Library on it and share it. Otherwise you need to use another application for the job.

  • What is the best way of integrating rules to a J2EE (EJB 3) application ?

We are working in a J2EE(EJB3) project which we plan to validate business logic using rule engine(JBoss rule). What is the best way of integrating the rule engine to the application ?
Does rule engine good for validating a large no of data volume ? (asserted as an objects)

I don't see a big switch construct. How about trying the following:
Call this method from your original method by passing the resultset obtained.
    public String[] convert(ResultSet rs) {
         int col = ((ResultSetMetaData) rs.getMetaData()).getColumnCount();
         String[] record = new String[col];
         int i=0;
         while(rs.next()) {
              if(rs.wasNull()) record[i] = new String();
              else record[i] = rs.getString(i);
              i++;
         return record;

  • What is the best way to add AJAX support in an existing JSF application?

I've done some research and I found several options listed below:
1.Use JSF AJAX components like JBOSS RichFaces
    2. Use Client JavaScript Library like DOJO
    3. Use JavaScript directly
My question is what is the best way to do that?
And for approach 2, is it possible to mingle DOJO and JSF ?
Thanks a million for your answers.

If you can't wait for JSF 2 GA or don't want to use beta, look at project Dynamic Faces. It looks like JSF 2 AJAX support was based on the Dynamic Faces project, so it should be easy to switch from DynaFaces to JSF 2.

  • What is the best way to run windows on my Mac? And What are the pitfalls I should watch for?

What is the best way to run windows on my Mac?   What are the pitfalls/

If you need Windows as your main operating system you would be better off buying a Real Windows PC.
Running windows on a Mac is always a compromise. Whether in a Boot Camp partition or in a Virtual Machine.
In boot camp you can't easily Re-Partition and or Re-Size the drive it is installed on. You can't use both graphics cards as Apple has limited Windows to use the discrete graphics only, that is if your mac has 2 graphics cards (15" MBPs), which will shorten the battery run time in Windows.
The trackpad only has limited functions in Windows, less then is available on the Mac side and a real Windows PC.

  • What is the best way to reinstall ?

Hi, i need to reinstall Mac OSX 10.3.5 on my machine again. I would like to complety erase and reinstall it. Is there any guide to do that? I mean not the easy way but some way that will get away everythings and get a new version.
I PS: I want to do that becouse I need to make sure any future problem is nothing related to some error on this version. my computer is worse than a Windowns and i have no ctrl, alt, del
II PS: since i have this machine i got all the updates.
    Thanks, you are allways helpfull

    fjunho:
Here are some suggestions on installation:
    Panther: Archive and Install
If you do not have your original install disks or a Full Retail Version you can get them at AppleRescue relatively inexpensively.
If you have the Full Retail Version of Panther (computer specific disks for your computer) here is what you do.
    1. Warning: Although we will use Archive and Install there is always a risk something can go wrong. As a precaution back up your User Folder and any third party applications you can't afford to lose.
    2. Check to see if you have the latest Firmware Update
. Note: You must be in OS 9.1 or later to update firmware
    3. Boot from the install disk holding down the C key.
    4. Once booted go to the Installer Menu and open Disk Utility.
To do a clean install see Notes below
    5. Run Repair Disk. If there are problems, run it until no problems are reported. If it reports that it can't repair the problems you might need TechTool Pro or Disk Warrior.
    6. While still in Disk Utility run Repair Permissions.
    7. Quit Disk Utility and open the Installer.
    8. Choose the option to Archive and Install. This saves your data in a Previous Systems folder, which you can retrieve after installation.
    9. You might want to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer Drivers to save Hard Drive space.
    10. Proceed with installation.
    11. After installation is complete computer will restart. Follow prompts and set up computer.
    12. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) and Repair Permissions.
    13. Go online and download updates, or go to Software Update under the Apple Menu and update your OS.
    14. Transfer your User Folder from Previous Systems folder.
    NOTE (below):
    To do a clean install:
Follow steps 1 through 4 above.
    a. In Disk Utility select your HD in left panel and Erase in main panel.
    b. Be sure Volume Format is Mac OS Extended and the checkbox Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed is checked.
    c. Select Options at bottom left in Erase panel. WARNING! This procedure will erase the contents of your entire HDD. Be sure you back up anything you cannot afford to lose!
Select option to zero all data. Click OK. Click Erase.
This process will take a while, so this is a good time to take a long walk or call your mother
    d. After HDD is erased resume at No. 7 above.
Post back with any questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • What is the best way to switch between multiple image buffers? AND How to synchronize saves?

    Hello,
I'm trying to flip-flop between two buffers and wondering the best possible solution for this.  I'd like to acquire an image in one buffer, send that off to be processed, and then while that's being processed acquire a second image.  Right now I have a "Create IMAQ vi" in a for loop and have it creating 10 image locations.  I'm using a non-NI framegrabber (shame I know) which makes things a bit more difficult to replicate.  I have two while loops.  One while loop currently grabs images from the framegrabber and places in the 10 different locations.  The other while loop currently holds a case structure that does the processing.  I have created a local variable that holds all of the image locations and reads those to be processed.  I don't know if this is actually making things faster or if it's better to just make one image location.
I have two images attached.  One image is the Grab While loop.  Since I have an array of locations, I have to use a for loop and index each one out to my display. I then have a shift register to carry the image location info over to the next iteration of the while loop.
The second attachment is the bulk of the main while loop.  It shows what happens to the image while it's being fully processed in the left case structure.  I know it does not look like much but one of the cases (which is called by Boolean Image FFT) is a subVI that does most of the processing.  I believe that is what really slows it down because of how that program is written.
The right case structure shows my saving mechanism.  I have two file paths. One to save the image and the other to save the processed image.  I have a sequence to make sure they save at the same time once it gets to that point.
The problem though is the following:
In the grabwhileloop.png, you can see that I have a timing to see how fast the images are being acquired.  This value is approximately 60 fps (which is the rate of the Basler camera).  There is a similar set up in the main loop case structure. This processes very slowly and is approximately 1.04 fps.  Which would mean that the image I turn into an array in the left case structure in the main while loop image is more than likely different than the image I'm trying to save off in the right case structure since the grab is occurring at the same time.  I'd like to have the processed image to save alongside the image I am processing.
Sorry for the big bulk of text.  This code has come a long way as it is.  If you have any suggestions on making it faster or more efficient please feel free to chime in.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Thanks for the comment.  I have looked into the producer/consumer architecture, but to be honest, I'm not quite sure how everything will work while doing that. I have seen the example codes, and I have thought about implementing (or at least attempting to) but I'm still unconvinced that it will run that much more efficiently.  There is other setup outside of the images that had to be done outside of either while loop. Also, I don't know where I would put both loops.
Last time, I attempted to put the grab while loop inside of the state machine.  Things got chopped because it took so long to go through the main while loop's "acquisition" state (which is really the processing state).  I needed both to simultaneously run.  The grab reset every time it went to the "grab" state which is not what I wanted.  The only way I can thing to have combatted this was to combine the grab and acquisition in the same state.  If that were to happen, I'd take out the for loop and grab one image at a time.  However, that would still probably make things even slower than they already are.
In terms of the doing something before an image is assigned in for loop, I don't need that pixel sum value to refresh too quickly.  As it is already, the main while loop is slow enough as it is, so I am more afraid that everything will run too slowly the more I do.  I know where the bottleneck is in my code, but I can't really see a way to "even out the flow".  Even if I moved to the other architecture, I feel it'd take the same amount of time that it does already.
From my debugging, the Image local variable in the main while loop seems to refresh as quickly as the grab while loop spits it out.  Granted once the main while loop finally completes, main images have gone by.  This is what has to be though because it just take up so much processing power to run through the main while loop state.
As a side note, does labview have an issue with acquiring images in real-time that you have heard of?  I ask because when I run the code, there is a solid white line that I'm supposed to see in my display.  Every time things either time out or something, the line moves which is not supposed to happen.  The line also moves every time I place my mouse cursor in the display or if I spin the mouse wheel to scroll.  If I don't do either of those things, it'll eventually move on its own.

  • What's the best way to use iTunes match with 4 iPhones and an ipad2

Currently have iPhone 4 (2), iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G (used as touch-no sim), and iPad 2.  We use one apple id to purchase with. We use a windows 7 pc and iTunes 10.5.....latest ver.  My questions are  kinda multi faceted, but I'm thinking iTunes match can help.  Ok....
Is iTunes match cloud space the same as iCloud space?
I have ~15000 mp3's.  I'd like to use iTunes match to "clean up" my library.  So, once I get my matched tunes up there will all my devices see that library?
What about playlists?  Do they just stay the same and locally reside on iDevices?
I don't have a Mac yet, well I don't have a new one.  I currently have a iBook g4 1.0 ghz with 1.25mb ram and osx 10.5 on it.  I would like to move all my music to a 1tb nas drive that I have.....iTunes does see it.  Then do all my iTuning from that machine for the next couple of months until I save more money and by an iMac.
However, it seems as though this ITunes might be able to this better.......
I'm terribly confused...I have 10+ years in IT, albeit mostly all PC.  That being said, I am ready to switch, I just feel like I'm so deep into a mess it seems impossible to do any of this cleanly.
    Thank you,

I'll try to help a bit.
ITunes match space is different to icloud space. With iTunes match you get storage for 25,000 non iTunes purchased tracks and other than a limit for individual file size, there is no memory limit.
You can turn match on individuallyon each device (I have it turned off on my iPod but turned on on my iPad and iPhone). When you turn it on then you get access to all the tracks, and in my experience any playlists I create have transferred over very well. I understand that some people have had trouble with playlists though.
I'm not quite clear with exactly what you mean regarding cleaning up your library, but be careful about using Match for this. There is no guarantee that matched songs will be exactly the same version as your own copy, due to some mismatches, so you could find some problems there. Personall, I am cleaning up my library before matching, but I am rather particular about keeping my library the way I want it. If you aren't as fussed then match could be the answer.
    Hope that helped.

  • What's the best way to partition my disk with Vista, Arch, and data?

Hey everybody, I'm in a bit of a quandary here and I'd love a bit of help.
I have a 320 GB hdd on my new laptop. I want to dual boot Windows Vista and Arch, with a shared partition for data in between. I have Windows Vista installed with 110 GB of unallocated space. (Windows, being a piece of crap, has gone and locked some stupid system files at the end of its partition, completely preventing me from shrinking it any further.)
Vista has hogged two partitions for itself. One is C:, and I know what that's for; the other is D:, and I have no idea what lives on it. (In the off chance that anyone here knows, I'd actually like to find out what D: is doing there. It takes up 77 MB, 65 MB of which is empty, and is always "in use," and yet Vista's file manager says there's nothing in it.)
ANYWAY: Vista's taken up two partitions, and I need at least two for Arch: / and swap. Ideally, I'd like to have one for /home as well, but i don't know if that possible. I also really, really want to have a shared partition for music and documents and such for both OSes.
I thought at first I could stick all of Arch into an extended partition, but I read here that they can't be booted from. It doesn't make any sense to put my data partition into an extended partition, and Windows won't work either. What should my partition scheme be, since I apparently am going to need to put 5 primary partitions on one disk?
If you've gone this far, thanks for reading my wall of text. Any advice you can give would be deeply appreciated.
UPDATE: Okay, after doing a bit more research, I've read in a couple of places that Linux can be installed to a logical partition as long as I make sure GRUB (installed, I assume, on /dev/sda) points to it. Can anyone confirm this?
Last edited by wirenik (2008-11-29 07:27:46)

    wirenik,
You can't have 5 primary partitions.  4 max, or 3 primary partitions, and a bunch of logical partitions grouped inside an extended partition.  Arch will gladly install into a logical partition.  (Yes, it will boot just fine too )
If you currently have 2 partitions, you could create one more primary, then use the rest of the disk as an extended partition.  You will then be able to create as many logical partitions as you want (well, a bunch anyway).
    Something like this:
    /dev/sda1 (primary, Windows C)
    /dev/sda2 (primary, Windows D)
    /dev/sda3 (primary, Arch root)
    --- Extended partition ---
    /dev/sda5 (logical, Arch /home)
    /dev/sda6 (logical, swap)
    /dev/sda7 (logical, shared data)

  • What is the best way to dynamically create table partition by year and month based on a date column?

    Hi,
I have a huge table and it will keep growing. I have a date column in this table and thought of partition the table by year and month. Can any you suggest better approach so that partition will create automatically for new data also along with the existing
data? Nothing but automatically/dynamically partition should create along with file group and partition files.
    Thanks in advance!

What steps need to be taken to remove Adobe Elements 10 from one pc and install it on another?

Use back up and restore from the Organizer menu. You are permitted two activations so no real need to deactivate the old copy unless you have installed it previously on another machine.

  • What's the best way to correct my iTunes library's track and artists names?

I need to know how i can i correct the name of the files in my iTunes library.
For example, a lot of people have REM in their library which is not correct, it's R.E.M.
I am sure there's an application that will scan my library and correct the info.

While at first glance iTunes does an adequete job of naming music it does have its issues. It will not change the name of the actual file to match the music.
There are much better programmes out there to do this, I use mp3Tag (free). This will change your tag data and you can change your filename to match. It should be pointed out that this will not work with music downloaded from the iTunes store only the stuff you have ripped.
I have not tried it by converting iTunes Plus music to mp3 and then changing the tag data. Does anyone know if this works?

  • What si the best way to export Final Cut Pro X movies to YouTube?

    Hi
The Share > YouTube tool is proving to be very unrelaible. Often the Share Loader comes back with the "Your password has been rejected" message when I know that the password is correct. It seems to work fine for 50% of the time but it's really frustrating.
My videos are quite large (given that they are all under two minutes they have been shot in HD and are often over 1Gb - too big for YouTube).
What is the best way of getting my movies down in size and then uploaded to YouTube?
    Thanks
    Stephen

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm just rather reluctant to spend more money when FCP is meant to be good at this kind of thing. It's frsutrating thet the YouTube option doesn't work, but it clearly doesn't.
I think I just need to stop being a scrooge and to buy compressor!
