  • Code webcam using JMF

    anyone know how to code webcam application in java? I'm using "Vimicro USB PC Camera" webcam. Any helps are appreciated.

    JMF doesn't capture images from the web cam, it captures video streams from the web cam... if you're capturing individual images, you're doing something extra to make it to do that...
    So all you really need to do is to capture a frame of the web cam stream at whatever rate you need...

  • JMF- Problem in inbuilt Webcam using JMStudio

    Hi All,
    I am using Java Media Framework 2.1.1e and I am currently facing issues while accessing my inbuilt webcam using JMStudio
    I have tried to access my in-built Web-Camera from JMStudio app(of JMF..File->Capture->check 'Use video device'-> Press 'Ok'). However JMStudio itself is not able to access in-built web-camera, I am getting the error 'Couldn't initialize the Capture Device!'.
    Please note that JMF Registry Editor(JMStudio->Preferences->Capture Device->Detect Capture Devices')is able to detect the inbuilt web-cam device i.e I can see the entry for vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0
    Other features of JMStudio are working fine, such as
    1. Play audio/video files(I am using Fobs4JMF)
    2. Capture live audio
    Any Suggestions??
    Thanks for your help in advance

  • How do you access a WDM webcam( that hasn't got a VFW driver ) using JMF ?

    I'm trying to write capture sofware to access whatever webcam I connect to a usb port . Unfortunately, jmf registry does not detect the wdm devices. When running the code the vfwwdm.dll wrapper does do the convert, but you have an annoying window pop up to select the appropriate device. Has anyone found a way to access the wdm driver using the windows vfwwdm.dll wrapper without getting the chooser window? and using jmf to access and manipulate the device?
    your help would be appreciated.

    Yes, create a bean property that does the iterator.next() trick, then reference this bean property in your JSP using JSTL. This means wrapping a bean around the map, which is exactly what you do when you want to do these unorthodox things.I've followed the general thrust of this approach, if not exactly to the letter.
    I'm using Spring as my MVC framework, so in my Controller—rather than in a bean that wraps the map, as gimbal2 suggested—I'm doing the 'iterator().next() trick' to retrieve the value from my map, and then adding it to the ModelAndView under the specific attribute name "myValue".
    public ModelAndView mySpringHandlerMethod(HttpSession session) {
        ...obtain javaBean by calling back end...
        ModelAndView mav = new ModelAndView("myViewName");
        mav.addObject("javaBean", javaBean);
        Collection<BuildingVO> allBuildings = javaBean.getBuildingCollection().values();
        if (!allBuildings.isEmpty()) {
            BuildingVO onlyBuilding = allBuildings.iterator().next();
            mav.addObject("myValue", onlyBuilding);
        return mav;
    }The expression language within the JSP simply references that object from the ModelAndView in a very straightforward fashion.
    <c:out value="${myValue.numberOfStoreys}" />Thanks for the advice, folks, it certainly pointed me in the right direction.

    Ken.

    what cable do i need to use to connect my grandson's old style external isight webcam to his 2014 Mac mini in order for him to be able to FaceTime me

    You need either a FireWire 800 to FW 400 cable or a FR 800 (male)/FW(female) adopter.
    However. it the Mini (note that you still have the late 2012 Mini, Apple has not updated the Mini since then) has Mavericks it may not work satisfactorily. I tried it on my 2102 and I get abount 1 frame every 20 seconds. Another uses posted same problem.
    However, it it work fine on my late 2009 Mini with Mavericks

    This is copied from your first post. Am I reading this wrong? Aren't you saying that you are getting a message that the username and password are incorrect? That's why I asked another the word apple in the name. I don't use Yahoo mail that may in fact be correct but I'm just checking,
    IF you are getting a message that the username and password are incorrect.....
    Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

  • HT202802 What "security vulnerability" will be opened by using this signing technique?

    Regarding article: HT202802
    OS X: Using AppleScript with Accessibility and Security features in Mavericks - Apple Support
    The article says:
    Important: Signing an applet using the following method introduces a security vulnerability that could allow malicious software to use Accessibility without user permission.
    1. What "security vulnerability" will be opened by using this signing technique?
    2. Does signing this way only make the App its applied to vulnerable only? and then the whole computer vulnerable depending on how extensive the app's reach is to the rest of the computer?
    3. More information: My app only relates to the Reminders app and bunch of Finder items....nothing internet based, etc.  That being said, is this still a vulnerability to my computer?
    "Note: If you have your own signing identity, you may use that identity in place of “-” for the -s option."
    1. What is "my own signing identity?" and if I don't have one, would it add security to get one and use it here?
    Thanks for the help in advance!

    1) There are a few system features, including accessibility, that will override any and all other security protections on you machine. This is the vulnerability. In giving the script the ability to control your machine, you give control of your machine to the script.
    2) By signing the script, that control is permanent. If the app doesn't do anything malicious, there is no problem. But malicious apps sometimes don't manifest until later.
    3) Did you write the app? If so, then there is nothing to worry about. If not, then how much do you trust the author of the app?
    Generally, this isn't too big a deal. Apple is very protective, but most people generally hand over their passwords to anyone. They shouldn't, of course, but generally they do. They don't realize the extent to which they have handed over control of their machine and all of their data. Apple is trying to point that out.

  • Unable to dectek webcam drivers using JMF

    Hi,

    FYI : jmf.properties is already available in the classpath
    whereas using FMJ(fmjstudio) am able to detect the webcam drivers. i realized upon having civil.dll in the fmj library path able to detect the webcam drivers sucessfully.
    Please suggest how we can take forward using JMF

  • What's the Best Open Source DB for use with Kodo?

    Hi everyone,
    In terms of ease of setup and use, tools to view info in the database, and least difficulty in
    running with Kodo, what is the best open source database to use? I'm use to using Oracle and
    SQLPlus. I need to use an open source DB for a learning environment, and I'd like your informed
    opinion.
    Thanks,
    David Ezzio

    I have been using postgresql 7.1 with Kodo for a while with mostly positive results, and currently
    have it deployed with Kodo 2.2.3. I prefer it to mysql because its feature set is a little richer,
    and supports transactions natively. My experience with mysql (without jdo - I haven't tried it with)
    is good, but there were little things missing in mysql 3.x, e.g. the ability do do a join in a
    DELETE statement.
    BTW, there are some severe problems somewhere in the 2.2.4 release with postgresql if you intend to
    eventually deploy on it. It also apparently has some problems invoking postgresql's indices, making
    it a little less than optimal. But as a learning environment, it's what I'd recommend.

    Here is the rundown of the databases I have experience with:
    MySQL: Fairly simple to install (especially if you run Debian Linux), but
    configuration, especially adding users, can be a pain. A separate open
    source project called "mysql-navigator" makes it fairly easy to do
    simple queries, inserts, etc. In most of my tests it outperforms
    PostgreSQL, but your mileage will vary. It has a sane CLI that supports
    modern features like line history, etc (unlike the horrific SQLPlus).
    PostgreSQL: People often say that it is a more "academically
    correct" database than MySQL. I've also found it to be quite a bit
    easier to set up. Their GUI (called "pgaccess") is simplistic, but does
    most things you need. Has a CLI similiar to MySQL's.
    HypersonicSQL: By far the easiest to set up (just drop the jar in your
    CLASSPATH), but is java only, can be rather slow, and has no GUI tools
    available that I know of (except various free vanilla-JDBC GUI tools).
    We feel that Kodo works quite well with all these DBs. The MySQL JDBC
    driver seems a bit less buggy than Postgres', but their transaction
    support is very recent and not very well tested. If I had to pick one or
    the other, I would probably go with MySQL.

  • Safari is using 5 to 6 GB of memory (of 8) and everything slows to a crawl, requiring force quit of what little I have open.

    Safari is using 5 to 6 GB of memory (of 8) and everything comes to screeching halt, requiring force quit of what little I have open.  Frustrated, I switched to Chrome.  This worked for awhile but now I see Safari is still 'there' in the  Activity Monitor, doing I know not what, as I never opened the app.
    Sometimes the memory sink happens immediately, sometimes it builds up over time.  But it always happens regardless of what else is opened. I find I have to keep checking the activity monitor to make sure Safari has not snuck in there, even though I am not using the Safari browser. I tried to throw Safari in the trash but the system would not let me.
    This is a brand new imac, only 2 weeks old and I feel like throwing IT in the trash too.  (Kidding).  But seriously, my old 2010 imac never had this issue.  Safari on my iphone and ipad appears normal.
    My safari is 6.0.5 and my OS is 10.8.4.  I think these are both the latest and greatest.
    I disabled all extensions in Safari.  Did not help.  I saw a post suggesting to cut off Java which I just did, but I am not optimistic this will work either given how persistent and pervasive this problem appears to be.
    Any help would be welcome.
    Deb

    Although you are not launching Safari yourself, make sure it's not launching itself on restart. Any applications that are open when you shutdown/restart will relaunch unless you deselect the tick shown in this image:
    Also check System Preferences>Users & Groups>Login items and review what's set to load at boot-up. Remove anything that is not required using the 'minus' button. You can always add things back if necessary.
    Another thought - what third-party software have you installed, if any? Any anti-virus programs or apps that promise to 'clean' or 'speed up' your Mac. There are some apps that are known to bring a Mac to its knees - MacKeeper is top of the list.
    If none of this helps, then I agree you should take advantage of your warranty/phone support.

  • Error Playing .wav file on RHEL 4 using JMF

    Hi,
    We are using jmf api to play wav files on our application deployed on rhel version 4. But we are receiving the following error
    **"Cannot find a Processor for: myfolder/myAudio.wav" --->
    this exception is comming from javax.media.Manager
    throw new NoProcessorException("Cannot find a Processor for: " + source);"**.
    Any ideas what could be issue with this, am I missing some drivers/processor for wav files? I did a default jmf studio installation.

    If we take a look at the supported formats page...
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/formats.html]
    And the WAV file is supported by the cross-platform pack, AKA, jmf.jar.
    If you're unable to open a WAV file, I'd say it's most likely because you don't have JMF.jar on your library path. You can fix that at runtime with the switch -djava.library.path=<whatever>
    That's what I would say the issue is.

  • P2p video streaming using jmf (is it possible to "forward" the stream ?)

    Hello
    In my project a peer will start streaming captured video from the webcam to his neighbors and then his neighbors will have to display the video and forward(stream) it to their neighbors and so on . So my question is can i do this using jmf , a simple scenario will be : peer_1 streams to peeer_2 and then peer_2 to forward(stream) the video received from peer_1 to peer_3 .
    I've read the jmf2_0 guide and i've seen that it's only possible to stream from a server to a client and that's about it , but i want also the client to pass the stream forward to another client ... like for example [http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/593/p2pjmf.gif|http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/593/p2pjmf.gif]
    I want to know at least if this it's possible with jmf or should i start looking for another solution ? and do you have any examples of such projects or examples of forwarding the stream with jmf ....
    thanks for any suggestions

    _Cris_ wrote:

You can do what with JMF. Once you receive the stream, it's just a video stream. You can do anything you want with it...display it, record it, or send it as an RTP stream.

  • Request help for purchasing HD webcams using iMac, OSX &Lion

    I am requesting help for purchasing a HD webcam using iMac, OSX &Lion.  Any suggestions would help.  The following is what I've done so far...
    I purchased Logitech's HD C910 webcam. It was a mess in requards to freezing up, no zoom and most of all no adjustments in: contrast, hue, color, etc. You're stuck just like a car with no engine or wheels who wants that.  The other Logitech products i.e. Pro 9000 is being discontinued with no software updates in the future  and the same with the other products. Most of the other manufactures do not provide software that is really compatible provideing true HD with full features. I'm willing to spend around $199,00 or so.  Any suggestions?

    Well I found my own answer to the webcam concern that I had ....I bought the Logitech C-910...Yes, I know the Logitech states their software is not compatible with OS X ...That's OK, I only use the basics supplied by Logitech to open the cam...Logitech does supply HD settings which are useful.  I like the wide angle which is there to play around. Then I use a software program called "Webcams Settings" found at Apple's App Store. There is a small charge for this download but more than worth it to have a fully functioning system.  The best way to get there is obliviously via your "Dock." Click on the icon and type in "Webcam Settings" in the top right portion of the page and presto....you have all the goodies to play like a professional. i.e.:  zoom, pan, tilt, aperture. etc. of course your webcam camera(s) must have the capability to perform these options in order to use them.
      Note I have used my webcam for everything you can imagine and have a 60 foot cord (several cords linked together) to go outside (LOL) 'Just love the goodies with "Webcam Settings".  I take outstanding pics too if I do say so, please.  Funny, I rarely use my cam to Skype but knowing the option is there for me anytime I wish.  I my cam to photograph orchids and misc. even portraits and family play photos with my tripod in hand.   Just because there is a big road block in your path doesn't mean there aren't other avenues. In the corporate life it's called take a negative and make it a positive or else.......and if you have to gripe then you better have an idea on how to turn it around.  -So- I did Logitech and Apple.
